I may destroy you, Girls ...

This week we are discussing three progressive shows on Netflix and Hulu that showcase inclusivity, LGBTQ issues, women’s empowerment, sex positivity and representation. If you are one of those people who say, “there’s nothing to watch,” this episode is for you! We start off with Ryan Murphy’s Netflix original drama, Pose, which spotlights the legends, icons, and fierce house mothers of New York City’s African-American and Latino underground LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming ballroom culture scene in the 1980s and early 90s. The show features the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles, including MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross. The show premiered on FX and received critical acclaim and numerous award nominations for the Golden Globes, and Emmys. Many of the characters either battle with HIV/AIDS or know someone dying of the disease. Pose exposes the terrible conditions of these patients and the stigma surrounding their diagnosis. We became obsessed with this show for its portrayal of such heavy matter, done in a beautiful and moving production style. Next we discuss She’s Gotta Have It, a daring story of a sex-positive woman, Nola Darling (played by DeWanda Wise) and her three lovers based on the film by Spike Lee. The series displays her struggle to stay true to herself and fulfill her dreams while juggling her personal life. She fights misogyny and uses her artistic gifts to create anti-catcalling posters. The show openly supports the Black Lives Matter movement, and features a mostly Black cast. We loved the show’s racial and sexual message, along with its unique directional approach. Lastly, we talk about The Bold Type, a must-watch for women’s empowerment. The show is based on real-life former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, and she serves as executive producer for the show. Although the show fictionalizes the magazine name as and highlights fictional characters, the empowering environment is based on reality. The series chronicles the lives of three millennial women, Jane Sloan (Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) who are employed at the fictional global publication called Scarlet in NYC under Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin). We hope you enjoy this episode and check out the Pose, She’s Gotta Have it, and The Bold Type. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/capivaras-trancadas/message
Braden Alexander loves talking about his feelings, and he's bringing an opportunity for other queer and trans men in Toronto to share theirs! He is guest curator for With/out Pretend's newest event, Tender Hearts, where 10 of these men can share their stories of their life experiences with vulnerability and courage in a welcoming, safe environment. On how it hurts to be a man in the world right now, and how it hurts to be a queer person in the world right now. Braden offers some insight on owning not having our shit together and treating our feelings as sacred territory. Braden also discusses how Grindr has changed dating in the queer male community, and how it can be explored beyond its hookup intentions into making other kinds of connections with other queer male-identifying folks, as well as how Grindr can help and hurt feelings along the way. He also shares a bit about his experience as a white man loving an Indigenous man and its complexities, particularly from a Canadian perspective. Nola Darling, the main character from the Netflix series, She's Gotta Have It, is a character Braden relates to in finding different gifts and lessons while loving different partners at the same time. Braden also cites the music of Young Galaxy and the comic series, The New Mutants, as pop culture touchstones paramount to his self-soothing... and a little a bit about how being a Beach Witch is a self-care ritual for him! DeWanda Wise plays the singular Nola Darling in the Netflix hit “She’s Gotta Have It,” adapted for episodic TV by the one and only Spike Lee, whose 1986 film about this sexually woke Brooklynite artist put him on the map as a filmmaker. But Wise, whose approach to art combines studiousness with something more spiritual, wasn’t intimidated during her audition for the part; as she proved to Lee, she can more than roll with the punches.
She's Gotta Have It! Are we ready for Nola Darling's carefree, pan-sexual attitude? Is Nola Darling on to something? Or, is she just a millennial with no direction? We discuss those things and more on this week's episode. And it wouldn't be TAYF if we didn't talk about who needs friends and who we'd love to be friends with. Finally, guess which lady of TAYF thinks Derek Fisher is #foine. Do you agree? As always, you can find us on the interweb @tayfpodcast (IG/Twitter) or theyaintyourfriends.com. Thanks for listening!
First and foremost, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Now that we've got that out the way, tonight on It's Real Talk Radio, we're kicking off the new year with one of the more controversial topics going on right now. Yup, that's right, we're discussing Season 1 of She's Gotta Have It, the Spike Lee Directed Netflix Original Series, which is a remake of the original 1986 film "She's Gotta Have It" also directed by Spike Lee. There is a lot to discuss in the 10 episodes of Season 1. So how do you feel about the character Nola Darling after dissecting her for 10 episodes? Is she heroic? Is she a good representation for feminists? Does she represent how most women truly feel? Is she a man eater? Is she selfish? Does she have a sex addiction? Is she a freak? Could you ever see Nola Darling changing her ways and eventually settling down? These are some of the many discussions that go on amongst viewers of "She's Gotta Have It." It is suggested that you watch the original film She's Gotta Have It after you watch Season 1 of the Netflix Series She's Gotta Have It, that way you'll have a unique view but yet a full appreciation for the original film, after spending a whole season getting to know the characters: Nola Darling, Mars Black, Greer Childs and Jamie Overstreet. There are also some new characters that were introduced to in Season 1. Some of the new characters include Opal, Shemekka, and Papo. But let's get to the real controversy! How do you feel about the real life Nola Darlings who impact people's lives for better or worse, every day? Can't ask more of a controversial question than that! Well we will address all these questions on air tonight, so don't miss out! Call In # 347-838-9540 #ItJustGotReal
Peace, Love, and all that good stuff! This weeks episode welcomes Moe back on the show as he helps us share our collective introspection on "She's Gotta Have it" (A Spike Lee Joint). If you havent already find some time to head over to netflix and watch She's Gotta Have it, you won't be disappointed. Spike Lee did his thing both back in 1986 when he produced and directed the movie (which was his first) and then 2017 he dropped the series on Netflix. The series focuses on the main character Nola Darling struggling trying to stay true to herself and her dreams all while juggling three lovers. Join us as we share our introspection on this dope Spike Lee Joint! Thank you for checking out this episode of Introspective Insight: The Black Wallstreet Podcast and we hope you come back next week with a new set of ears. This week's episode is inspired by Nola Darling. The ladies discuss objectification of women, casual dating and how sometimes you have to accept the fact that you're a hoe. Legend Eva admires Nola and the rules she applies to her dating life. KayTheRebel was also an advocate of Nola and feels that everyone should have a hoe phase if they are mentally/emotionally strong enough to handle it. This is our last episode for 2017. THANK YOU to all of our supporters.
Hier wie immer die Sprungmarken zu den einzelnen Abschnitten: 00:00:00 - Intro & Begrüßung 00:01:54 - Serienjahr 2017 00:16:04 - She's gotta have it (inkl. leichter Spoiler) 00:43:30 - Marvel's The Punisher (inkl. Spoiler) 01:01:30 - Stranger Things (inkl. Spoiler) 01:46:08 - Epilog Viel Spaß. Ensuite, Rhoda, fan déchue du travail de Spike Lee, nous spoile « She’s Gotta Have It » dans sa chronique. Spike Lee revisits his famous drama/comedy 1986 film, She's Gotta Have It, but this time as a TV series that is updated for a new era and available as a Netflix Original Series. The general story is the same, but with needed tweaks to bring the series on Black polyamory into 2017. The series still follows Nola Darling, a "single" Black woman who has open sexual relationships with three men that are wildly different in personality. They reflect aspects of herself in archetypical ways. Whether the carefree/immature side, the stability of adulthood, or the worldly overachiever, the three men work as a vessel for Nola's best and worst qualities. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5939723/advertisement

"She's Gotta Have It" was Spike Lee's insightful 1986 film about a liberated woman extolling her self-expression and reclaiming her time! ..by wasting other people's tehe. Why must dating always be so zero-sum! This episode we discuss the 2017 take on "She's Gotta Have It" which premiered on Netflix Thanksgiving Day as a series. Thanks to Nola Darling, we deep dive into the themes of sexuality, relationships, compromise, feminist mystique, millennial angst, gentrification, and more. And of course we rank our favorite suitors of hers -- Opal, Mars, Jamie, Greer. Finally, we apologize for excluding Lady Raqueletta Moss from the narrative. She was in the notes! We got carried away Iyanla'ing Nola and blocked our blessings. Spike Lee filmje, a She's Gotta Have It beleillik az előző blokkunkba is, hiszen ez a rendező első munkája, minimális költségvetésből, ismert színészek nélkül. Mégis új blokkot indítunk ezzel az adással, mert a következő két hétben Lee híresebb munkáival is megismerkedünk. Mennyire hatott újdonságként 1986-ban egy afro-amerikaiak hétköznapjairól szóló film? Hogyan viszonyul a She's Gotta Have It a blaxpoitationhöz és Woody Allenhez? A szexualitást pozitívan, nagy adag humorral kezelő vígjáték kapcsán körüljárjuk, mit gondolunk mi és mit gondol a film főhőséről, Noláról, aki egyszerre három férfit próbál megtartani. Megvitatjuk, egysíkú-e az egymással kakaskodó csődörök jellemrajza, milyen téren vét hibákat a kezdő rendező, és ugyanakkor mely megoldásai vetítik előre a későbbi nagy munkáit. A Kitekintőben arról beszélünk, hogy a Netflix sorozatot gyárt a She's Gotta Have It alapján, Spike Lee rendezésében, mi pedig elképzeljük, milyen más 80-as évekbeli filmekből lehetne izgalmas tévéadaptációkat készíteni. Thirty years after Spike Lee introduced his bombastic, Mr. Fantastic self to the world via Nola Darling -- a free-spirited twenty-something Brooklyn graphic designer with three baes, a handsy lesbian pal, and an exasperated BFF -- there's still something about Nola Darling that we've just got to have. Decades later, it's Netflx that's gotta have it, and the prolific Lee has agreed to go back to the future and direct a 10-episode order of a 'contemporary take' on his sexy, groundbreaking indie. My guest for this episode, writer and filmmaker Nikki Harmon, is slightly terrified at the prospect, but will be watching anyway. Our guest this episode, Nikki Harmon, is a film and video professional who lives and works just outside her native Philadelphia. She has written, produced, worked on or directed on several documentaries, short narratives, educational and industrial films, music videos, feature-length films and television shows. Throughout her production career, Nikki has maintained her commitment to teach and worked for community organizations such as the Big Picture Alliance and Scribe Video Center teaching youth and adults video production. Most recently, she has taught at both Drexel and Arcadia universities as an adjunct professor. Nikki is a married mother of three who recently published her first novel, When I Was Your Girlfriend, and is working on a screenplay -- and another novel. She's Gotta Have It is her favorite Spike Lee film. Thirty years later, she still ain't mad at Nola, is fairly certain Mars Blackmon became more irritating with age, and agrees that it's just a matter of time before Bravo green lights an eye-rolling reality TV show called Basketball Lesbians. My money is on Logo or Centric though.... This episode also features a brand new No Tea for the Fever Theme Song by Loretta 'Funky LB' Brown. Want more deets -- or just to say hello?
