What is a GPO? Even in the roofing industry, the concept of a GPO (Group Purchasing Organization) is new and not widely understood. Let's learn more about the Limitless GPO Group in today's show! Limitless Roofing Group was founded in 2022 by 25-year roofing industry veteran, Miller Weedn, and 20-year organizational leadership and training veteran, Dylan McCabe. Dylan joins Dave and John for today's episode about the benefits roofing contractors can find by joining the Limitless Roofing GPO. Limitless GPO currently has 44 members (and counting) and operates in all 50 states with a passion for bringing roofing business owners together to maximize their profitability.   Before our interview with Dylan, John DeLaurier unveils the result of his long-awaited rebranding of DeLaurier Roofing to Peach State Roofing, including the steps he's taken and what the future next steps are in the process.   What you'll hear in this episode: Why a common challenge among roofing business owners is how to find and retain top sales talent Why, as a roofing business owner, you need to hire the right WHO Why groups like a Mastermind or a GPO are beneficial in helping contractors learn from each other and find accountability and partnership The common problems Dylan finds with a GPO: marketing (because almost no one knows what a GPO is or what it does) and landing deals How membership in a GPO works—and how you can join now for FREE! This episode goes into the nitty greedy details for properly vetting the companies that are offering you a roof replacement service. It can be harder when trying to separate the bad apples from the good ones. Unfortunately, there are some "bad actors" out there that are looking for a quick win when selling you a roof replacement. We also want to remember that there are good companies that are there ready to help in the best way possible. How can we tell who is who? What can we do during the construction process to make sure everything is getting done right? We talk about these things and more in this podcast. Look below for a couple of topics we go over: What are telltale signs of a good contractor and a bad contractor? If something goes terribly wrong during the installation, is it my fault or the contractor's fault? How can you do some research into the company you are considering and see if they are honest and genuine? Why not to consider the quoting process as a race to the bottom? What is the difference between the best price & the fairest price? Why you should take some time off to be semi-present during your installation. What questions to ask your contractor before signing the agreement. Are there ways to see if I made the right choice of contractor even after the installation? We answer all these questions and more!

So many business owners just aren't making the profits they should! The failure rate is shocking, but what's even worse are the people who are working their lives away and earning so much less than what they should. On today's episode, you'll learn which jobs are making money, which jobs are losing money, and what to do about it. What you'll hear in this episode: How we can make more money: either sell more jobs or sell them for more money Why good job costing is essential for your business Diane's elevator pitch: how she helps small and mid-size construction companies customize their internal accounting systems and run their companies more profitably Why most contractors think of numbers negatively How job costing allows you to see which jobs are winners, which are losers, and which are in the middle How job costing helps narrow your focus on profitable jobs How a “post mortem” helps you evaluate the estimate vs. the actual for each job How Diane got into work with construction companies and job costing The biggest problem when you don't do job costing: You are working “in the dark” You don't know where you stand financially You may sell at lower prices (and sink the ship!) How job costing is part of the system to give you historical information and help make projections about the future How to track details on phases of different jobs The pros and cons of Quickbooks online Why you don't have to be an accountant to use job costing Who can do your job costing for you The three phases of a good accounting system: good structure, training, and proofing/balancing Diane explains “the speed--accuracy--control continuum” Why any company doing project-oriented work should be doing job costing How job costing provides a feedback loop Resources Connect with Dave: Let me know if you'd like to join one of our new Mastermind groups for contractors. Jonathon Stowell is from Gilbert, Arizona where he was born and raised. Jon started roofing with his dad when he was 9 years old. After working summers until he graduated high school, then serving a 2 year mission for his church, he got married. Having been married for 15 years, he now has 5 children. Jon spent most of his 20's working with his father in production and doing some sales. In early 2012, we rebranded the company to 5 Guys Roofing and shifted focus to providing a great experience to not only commercial clients but residential as well. In late 2012, he decided to go back to school for a degree in drafting and design. Through school he found a passion for marketing and decided to pursue it. He then found a job working with Google in their small business advertising space. He worked in marketing and ecommerce until the end of 2016. In December of 2016, Jon took a new role as the General Manager of 5 Guys Roofing and came back with a wealth of knowledge in marketing and lead generation. He spent part of 2017 focusing on establishing new marketing strategies as well as business organization and management. Fast forward to 2021, with the company growing from 3.2 Million in 2016 to projecting 18+ Million in 2021, Jon now sits as the CEO. Jon attributes growth to a few things: #1 Focusing on the right people. Empowering people to do what they do best has allowed the company to push top line sales and give the resources to offer more. #2 Aligning with a few key organizations that understand operational excellence and learning best business practices. This has allowed the company to reduce the learning curve and create faster, more streamlined processes. #3 Creating a vision for the company and being able to show that to those who work in it. This has created buy-in for a vast majority of employees and without it, 5 Guys Roofing would not be where they are today. #4 5 Guys Roofing has come to market with a few Unique selling points. 1, being the "Straightforward Pricing" guide for all repairs. This simplifies pricing and options for repairs and gives the customers transparency and trust, which lend to easier, faster decision making. Another unique selling point being the club memberships. Being a member of the Forecare Program gives customers peace of mind that they always have someone watching over their roof and when needed, first in line for any service. Now 36, Jason owns Couto Construction along with his middle brother Derek. Doing quality work and customer satisfaction is still what we base the company on.” Just as he worked hard to learn the trade, Jason applied the same intensity to the business end. Contractors are really good at what they do, but when it comes to sales, it is just another skill that contractors should be learning. Since nothing happens until somebody sells something, today's show is going to be all about how to sell. My guest, Dominic Rubino, details the common sales mistakes that roofing contractors make. Knowing what to avoid will enable you to polish your sales skills and provide a professional experience to your customers that will help you to secure repeat and referral business. Dominic Rubino is the host of Profit Toolbelt Podcast and is a business coach for contractors. What you'll hear in this episode: How to know and understand your sales numbers. Contact me to set up a 30-minute call to learn more! Dominic also uses Ruby Receptionists and appreciates their professional services. The selling process is like doing a roof: There's a certain way to do it, and there's a certain way to do it right. “You don't have to be great at selling, you have to be great at following your own process.” – Dominic The 8 sales mistakes roofing contractors make: You skipped the 20-minute pre-meeting. You didn't show up on time, as promised. You forgot to make a light social media touch before that first face-to-face meeting. You didn't get all of the decision-makers to the sales meeting. You did your presentation without everybody sitting down. You forgot to have the paperwork ready. You did more talking than listening. You forgot to ask for the business. Dominic explains why you need to say this within the first 30 seconds of doing the on-site visit: “We'd be proud to do another home like yours.” Sales is a skill that you learn that will help you grow your business and make more money. It will also enable you to have more free time to do the things you want to do.   Connect with Dominic: Profit Toolbelt – FREE Downloads! After more than 500 interviews with Roofing Contractors, Bill Good understands what problems keep us contractors up at night! In today's interview with Bill, we dig deep into the problems we all face every day in our businesses and what the NRCA is doing to help solve them. Bill, who has an MBA  from the University of Chicago, has been the CEO of the NRCA for most of the past thirty years. The mission of the NRCA is a simple one- to assist contractors and advance the industry. It's a hundred and twenty-nine years old, with thirty-five hundred members and staff of fifty-three. Half of the members do both residential and commercial and half of them do less than $1,000,000 in sales, so there's something there for everyone. Bill is due to retire this year, so Dave wants to draw on his vast experience and find out what's happening in the roofing industry from someone who really knows before he hits the beach.  As Bill talks with a large number of contractors each year, Dave would like to know about the types of problems going on out there and what can be done to solve them. Listen in today, and find out from an expert, how you can take your roofing business to the next level. Let's dive in and learn some valuable tips to help your roofing business! Today, Bill talks to Dave about: What his plans are. Why the average roofing contractor should join the NRCA and what they will get out of it, as it's pretty expensive for the ordinary guy. Some of the issues that need to be dealt with in the industry. The average apprentice joining the roofing industry today is thirty years old- what that tells us. The difficulties roofing companies face in terms of finding the right people to hire. The black market that has been created due to the government's immigration policy. The results of school leavers being encouraged to go to college, rather than going to good trade schools. How it is possible to advance in a number of areas within the roofing industry. The changes that he's seen in the industry over the last thirty years. Why roofs on a lot of buildings are the single most important component for saving energy, today. How the roofing industry has advanced and improved, in many different ways. The increasing government regulations affecting the industry, today. The love/hate relationship that exists between the government and the roofing industry and Bills concerns in that area. How the NRCA assists with inspections and various other business issues affected by governmental regulation. Health care today and the roofing industry. Why the roofing industry is in a better position now than ever before. How the NRCA has been involved with the building code arena. His thoughts on how the new government administration could affect the roofing industry. Business Quick Tip: Current and future state of our workforce is the number 1 problem in our business. Don't poach people from other companies. Make sure the word on the street is that your company is different and treats employees well. Learn how Dave used a Spring Carnival as a very effective recruitment tool. Paying a substantial amount for referrals is also effective. It's important to have regular meetings and feedback sessions with employees. Making sure you have a happy workforce is the best way to keep your turnover low!
