As someone who's struggled with procrastination and time management, I can relate to the concept of "work to do work." It's those pesky little tasks that seem insignificant on their own but add up to a significant amount of time before we can actually start doing what needs to be done. I've found myself in this exact situation while recording an episode - 20 minutes turned into 35, all because I got caught up in the prep work. But after reading Sarah Kesty's article, "The Hidden Hazard of Work-to-Do Work," I realized that it's not just about getting started, but also about planning for those tasks ahead of time. It's amazing how much energy and time we waste on pre-work, only to drain our excitement and motivation when the actual task takes longer than expected. But what if we could plan for this "work to do work" and reduce the inertia that holds us back? That's exactly what I want to explore today - how can we make the tasks that are preventing us from doing the important stuff easier, faster, and more efficient? By scheduling our prep work ahead of time, automating some parts of our lives using AI, and being kinder to ourselves when things don't go as planned, we can truly live life to the third power. Takeaways: - Work to do work refers to those little tasks that add up to a significant amount of time before you can start doing what needs to be done. - Planning for your prep work ahead of time can help reduce procrastination and increase efficiency. - Scheduling your pre-work as part of the task estimate can prevent energy drain and maintain motivation. - Using AI, like generative AI tools, can automate some parts of your life and free up more time for what's truly important. - Being kind to yourself when things don't go as planned is essential in overcoming procrastination. In this episode of the Self-employed Life, I had the pleasure of speaking with Lisa McLeod, author of best seller Selling with a Noble Purpose: How to Drive Revenue and Do Work that Makes You Proud, along with four other exceptional books, about the importance of having a noble purpose in business. We discussed how making helping people the mindset of a business will not only provide a better life for the client, but also creates a more successful business and personal life. Lisa stated that people in business whose purpose is to help as many people as they can as best as they can are more successful than those that are in it just for money. Lisa McLeod is the global expert on purpose-driven business. She is the author of five books, including her bestseller: Selling with Noble Purpose: How to Drive Revenue and Do Work That Makes You Proud. Lisa has spent two decades helping leaders increase competitive differentiation and emotional engagement. Lisa is a former Procter & Gamble Sales Leader who founded her own firm, McLeod & More, Inc. in 2001. She helps leaders at organizations like Cisco, Roche, Volvo, and Dave & Busters drive exponential revenue growth. Lisa has keynoted in 25 countries and authored over 2,000 articles. Do: Dress Appropriately 著裝得體 If you need help deciding what to wear to your company Christmas party, check in with your colleagues first to find out the dress code. You'll most likely receive an email from the HR department with all the details. Maybe the CEO wants everyone to wear ugly sweaters, so naturally, you would want to wear your ugliest sweater. 2.Don't: Eat or Drink Excessively 暴飲暴食 If you're tempted to overindulge in the free open bar, hors d'oeuvres, and buffet at your office holiday party, we strongly advise against it. Knocking back too many free-flowing cocktails or having your cup in the punch bowl all night equals a lot of trouble. 3. Do: Work the Room and Network 盡量與屋內的人互動聯誼 Your Christmas office party is an excellent opportunity to mingle with people you may otherwise never see in the office, so use your time wisely. Before you show up to the event, practice your elevator pitch because you never know who you could bump into. 4. Don't: Talk About Sensitive or Inappropriate Subjects 不討論敏感話題 When networking at your Christmas office party, there are certain subjects you should stay away from at all costs. Firstly, avoid controversial topics such as religion, politics, and off-color jokes. Secondly, don't complain or whine about anything. 5.Do: Time Your Entrance and Exit 計算你的入場與離場 Unless you're one of the organizers, we suggest you don't show up to your Christmas office party early or perfectly on time. Even if the event is at the office, take a break after work, freshen up, and come back. Arriving 15 to 30 minutes after it begins is totally acceptable. 6. Do: Say Your Goodbyes 與大家道謝說再見 It may seem suspicious if you sneak out of your Christmas office party without saying goodbye to your colleagues and new connections. While you won't have time to say goodbye to everyone, especially if it's a company-wide event, do your best to weave your way through the crowd and acknowledge the people you feel most comfortable with. 分享時間 Do you like company year-end dinner parties? I've been fired from a job I was second to none at on the day I accepted an award saying I was. I've been betrayed, used and exploited by those I made a lot of money for and gave my best to only to get thrown away and lied to. I've had the woman I love more than anything in life, and coincidentally the only person I trusted, lie to me, hurt me, cheat on me then leave me for a spineless & cowardly child who impersonated a police officer to look like he was someone important. I've lost just about everything I've worked so hard to accomplish and have given everything to the people I loved only to be abandoned, kicked to the curb, and left for dead. The point of these episodes, recordings, and occasional videos is to help me get past this terrible hand that's been dealt to me and get back to the top so that the people responsible for this can watch my rise and return from the nosebleeds. All my episodes give my perspective and my side of what really happened, my observations about what made them do what they did, my professional insight to fitness fads, workouts, and subjects that are making headlines and what the possible different reasons behind them are. Special Guest: Elizabeth Lotardo: Co-Author of Selling with Noble Purpose Elizabeth Lotardo is a consultant, researcher, and co-author of Selling with Noble Purpose: How to Drive Revenue and Do Work that Makes You Proud. As the VP of Services at sales leadership consultancy McLeod & More, Elizabeth leads sales transformation initiatives for clients like Oracle, G Adventures, and Fiserv. She is a popular LinkedIn Learning author, and her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on NPR. With an undergraduate degree in advertising from Boston University and a Master's in Organizational Psychology, Elizabeth has enabled firms to drive employee engagement, competitive differentiation, and ultimately revenue. The words selling and noble are rarely seen together. Most people believe that money is the primary motivator for salespeople and that doing good by the world runs a distant second. That belief is wrong. Selling with Noble Purpose is both a philosophy and a system for moving beyond transactional sales. Don't let anyone tell you that you have to choose between making money and making a difference. Purpose and profit are connected. You can have both. You deserve both. We all do. Join us as we discuss how purpose and profit are connected. Listen Live (Archive Available) Host: Andy Goram
Dr. Onik talks with Rachel and Jamison Dye, founders of The Cancer Box, a resource designed by cancer survivors to empower others on their journey from victim to victor. But before The Cancer Box was born, there was the cancer. In 2018 Rachel and Jamison were living an idyllic life in Washington state with their growing family. An avid runner, Rachel went for her usual five-mile run around the lake, a route she'd been running since she was a teenager. Two days later, in sudden and tremendous pain, she was rushed to the ER and admitted for emergency surgery. Rachel had a golf-ball sized tumor removed from her colon, woke up with a colostomy, and for several days awaited test results. The verdict? Metastatic Stage IV Colon Cancer. The 27-year-old mother of three was told she may only have six months to live. Not only did Rachel and Jamison not fully understand the diagnosis, but they also knew little about cancer. “The first thing we did was just breath,” recalls Jamison. Next, they called Rachel's parents and their pastors. The couple intuitively knew they had to take some time to decide how to move ahead, but the pressure to act quickly given a death-sentence-diagnosis is tremendous. They didn't just want a physical treatment plan; they wanted a spiritual and emotional plan too. The hope they lacked came from a nurse who told them of someone she knew who beat the same cancer and Rachel leaned into her belief that she would live. Dr. Onik and the Dyes discuss some KEY COMPONENTS of their strategy: ++ Determining who'll be on your “team” ++ The importance of “soul-care”? ++ How to choose an oncologist ++ Diving into the research ++ Becoming your own advocate ++ Building a nutrition plan specific to your body's physiology ++ Learning to navigate emotional trauma Jamison, a project manager by trade, began doing the research and building the support team while Rachel recovered from surgery. The couple continued to follow their own path, emphasizing the importance of prayer, trusting themselves and God. One day at a time, Rachel made progress, healing in many areas of her life. After Rachel entered remission, the couple began processing all they'd been through. They had amassed loads of information and began wondering, “What does life look like now?” The Cancer Box was born. The couple decided to lean further into their experience and create the resource they wished they'd had on their journey. Already being peppered with questions from others battling cancer they knew they had developed a knack for coming up with meaningful solutions. The Cancer Box is a monthly subscription of tools and resources for the body (e.g., vitamins, snacks), mind (how to handle side effects) and soul (uplifting reading material) to empower people to take charge of own their care or aid someone they love. The Dyes experience has brought them something unexpected that they deeply cherish—an even closer relationship to God. Dr. Onik too has no doubt that he was given cancer to prove a point (although he says he didn't like it at the time) and that is, prayer combined with his unique treatment DO WORK! Remarkably, Rachel says she wouldn't change it. “Even if I could undo my cancer, I wouldn't because I can see how God was using it in our lives and our marriage and our family to refine and change my heart.” Rachel has been cancer-free for over a year. Dr. Onik wraps up by answering your questions. To submit a question to the Mailbag, use the contact page on Dr. Onik's website. *** To learn more visit https://www.thecancerbox.com/ Facebook | YouTube | Instagram @the_cancer_box *** For over 40 years Dr. Gary Onik has been pioneering advances in cancer treatment that have rocked the field of oncology, inventing an entirely new branch of cancer treatment now known as “Interventional Oncology” based on his innovative minimally invasive techniques. Both doctor and patient, he created a cancer vaccine and successfully treated his own terminal prostate cancer using his invention. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Onik is an Adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, working closely with his colleagues to develop the next generation of cancer fighting technologies. His latest work, using immunotherapy to treat metastatic cancer, offers hope to those patients with literally no other options. Don't believe the hype; resolutions DO WORK as long as you're making the right ones. In my experience as a coach, most people neglect their resolutions because they didn't resolve anything at all. Weight loss goals are useless without resolving your relationship with food. “Leveling up” your life won't ever happen if you don't do the “inner work” within. So what kind of resolution actually works? Tune in to todays episode to find out! Today I am so thankful to be able to share a little bit of what life has brought to me lately. It's so exciting when new doors open up for us but what we might miss is that new opportunities can turn into problems if we don't reevaluate our lives in order to maintain balance. New opportunities are blessings but when new things come into our lives it probably means pushing something else to the back burner. If we aren't intentional about what we are pushing to the back burner it could end up being something very important like family or our career, so we have to really take an honest look.Keep your eyes open for those new opportunities and be ready to make the leap of faith to take advantage of them but also be prepared to step away from something else in order to maintain a healthy balance.Stay Humble and Do Work!

How do you create a movement? How do you change the world? For starters, you have to inspire your audience. If you can inspire people, you can motivate them in a new direction. A better path. While inspiration is not sustainable, it can be the spark to initiate growth. It can be the moment that changes someone's life. But what inspires people? That answer is different for different types of people. So, the only way to find out what inspires them is the try, try, and try again. Keep trying. And through the process of figuring out what doesn't work, we begin to find out what does work. That has been Justin Schenck's philosophy and key to his success. His Growth Now Movement Podcast has inspired just that… a movement. It has been recognized as one of the top podcasts for entrepreneurs. Justin interviews some of the most fascinating and successful people in the world. He is and does what I aspire to be. Just an ordinary guy growing up in the middle of Pennsylvania, Justin now lives an extraordinary life bouncing around the country. He has created a live event, a mastermind, and a virtual group of the best and the brightest in their industries. His guests are the best at what they do. From Ed Mylett to Bert Kreischer, Hear how he connects, coaches, and counsels some extraordinary people. He's been kind enough to come to inspire my audience, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Justin Schenck. https://growthnowmovement.com/

When I was young I was confused by the phrase 'love your neighbour as yourself'. I mean, what if I don't love myself? If I dislike myself then does that mean I can dislike other people? Over time it became clear to me that it is not a command, rather it is a statement of fact; the way we view others is a reflection of how we view ourselves. In other words truly loving other people is only possible when we are comfortable with ourselves. How we feel towards ourselves is the pool from which our attitude towards other people flows. We see reflected in others the stuff we notice in ourselves. It's why we may tend hypocritically to pick on the flaws in others when we feel or know we have them ourselves. If you are conscious about a certain aspect of your appearance then you may notice that same thing in other people. Roman Krznaric says in Empathy that "if you fail to love and accept who you are then there is a danger of living a flakey life of searching for meaning and purpose in the experiences of everyone else and the external world". Strength in knowing and understanding yourself gives you a solid foundation to return to when you empathise with others. You can step into their skin without feeling like you want to either a) judge and change them, or b) blindly follow them. Put on Your Own Oxygen Mask before Helping Others With Theirs Self-care is building a home where we can return to re-energise, stabilise, and renew ourselves. In this week's show I explore these 6 ways we can better take care of ourselves: 1. Discern Your Own Feelings and Accept Them Relationships begin with listening. You don't get to know someone if you don't listen, and you can't truly love or empathise with someone if you don't want to know them. The same is true when it comes to ourselves. We have got to listen to what we are saying deep down. 2. Ask for Help It doesn't make you strong when you choose to do everything on your own. It depletes our resources, prevents people who want to help from helping, and stops us from doing the key things we should concentrate on doing. 3. Give Yourself Good Things You only get out what you put in. This is exactly the same when we talk about self-care. Give to yourself the stuff you need to nourish your souls and bring you to life. 4. Speak Up in the Face of Injustice What do you feel beating in your heart? Recognise the power that it has within you and speak up about it. It might sound like a vulnerable and extremely scary thing to force yourself to do; it may even sound like the opposite of loving yourself. But it's not. You will thank yourself later and find new energy and confidence about your impact on the world. 5. Do Work that You Enjoy It can sound a bit idealistic to say you should do a job or work that you actually enjoy, but I have had so many conversations with people where it has been clear that one of the biggest reasons they don't like their job is because of the view they have of themselves. 6. Play We can forget to enjoy ourselves; to play with the world, and hold more gently to the stresses and strains of life. An attitude of play comes when we let go of those things we have no control over and see each moment as an opportunity to which we can give ourselves. Our attitude is the only thing we truly have control over. But often it is our attitude that can be the catalyst to change everything. So make time and space to play. Embrace a playful attitude to life. It's what you need, it's what you deserve. Over to You Question: Do you find the concept of self-care or self-love easy to accept or are you like many of us and struggle a bit with giving yourself permission to put your own mask on first before helping others? Antonoise - Jackname Trouble Brennen Bryarly, performing under the ominous moniker of option4, is more house than tech and more deep than disco. Though he calls Denver his home, option4's music is deeply rooted in his Windy City past and the sounds of the vibrant underground house scene that places Chicago on everyone's radar. Though he only started focusing on original music in 2013, option4 has quickly gained a reputation for creating sonically textured house music that extends far beyond the fleeting trends of the electronic dance world. While most producers transition into songwriting from DJing or rely heavily on samples to string together a beat, option4 dives head first into creating his own music from scratch. In his first year in the studio, option4 released two singles, ‘Do Work' - a hard-hitting tech house track with a deep and rhythmic bassline matched with equally impressive synths, and ‘All The Girls', which cleverly splices vocals from N.E.R.D.'s ‘Everyone Nose' while adding a pulsating bass groove and old school house synths creating a dance floor-ready atmosphere. A year on, option4 has accelerated on to playing live shows across the Midwest, Canada and Los Angeles on headline bills and supports for huge acts such as STS9, Moon Boots, Mighty Mouse and Lane 8. Amid turning out eclectic remixes for Elizabeth Rose, Great Good Fine Ok and Indian Summer amongst more, option4 consistently released exceptional original singles like ‘Love like No Other' and ‘Deep Diamonds' to collectively garner over 1.1 million streams on Soundcloud in 2014. A master on the decks, option4 also traded mixes for high-profile taste makers in fashion and music including Thump, Discobelle, Perrier and international outfitters Frank & Oak. With more original material on the way and support from the likes of Justin Jay, Bit Funk and more, 2015 will see option4 turn his focus on original tunes with short breaks out of the studio for live shows throughout the U.S and beyond to add to his already impressive list of club and festival line-ups. Take notice -- option4 is well on his way to soaring far beyond the Mile High City. Twitter - @optionfore Soundcloud - Option 4 Facebook - Option 4 Instagram - @optionfour
