Emma Dotter is joined by today's devo writer and The young adults Director of Operations at Watermark, Sam Scott. Sam and Emma leave us with two takeaways from this passage: God is going to enact justice for his people; and we are not the hero in this story, we are also guilty of sin like these people. God offers hope so that we do not have to end this way. Stand under the waterfall of grace, because God's justice against sin will be either on you or will be put on God's Son. Additional Scripture References in this podcast: 1 John 1:8, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” James 5:16, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” Want to learn more about the porch? This week on Tide Chasers Podcast, we host Sam Scott of @blueridgemusky and owner of the @jamesriveroutfitter, the only musky specific tackle store in Virginia and maybe the world? Needless to say, we talk about his favorite species of all time; the elusive fish of 10,000 casts, the muskellunge. We talk with Sam about his new store, musky tips, tricks, and do's and don'ts for bringing that casting ratio down. For Sam and his clients, they are the fish of only 200-300 casts, so I think he knows his stuff! In his free time, well, Sam fishes of course! When not targeting muskies, he's chasing smallies or looking for gar on the fly. And if he's not on the water somewhere, he is writing for his monthly column in @woodsnwaters magazine. Come listen as we discuss the incredible fishery that the James River has to offer. Tide Chasers is a weekly podcast featuring local fishermen, charter captains, tackle shop owners and party boat captains among others. We discuss our local fisheries as well as opportunities to the north and south of our home waters of PA/NJ. If you or someone you know would like to be a guest, send us a message! How do you make security, a topic that often requires a PhD to understand, accessible to your average developer? In this episode of the Sourcegraph Podcast, Sam Scott, co-founder and CTO of Oso, a batteries-included library for building authorization into your application, comes on the podcast to explain to Beyang Liu, CTO at Sourcegraph, his vision for the future of security development. Along the way, Sam also shares how he got started in cryptography, explains why they pivoted Oso from infrastructure to application authorization, and shows Beyang how you can use Oso to build an authorization model with just 26 lines of code.Show notes & transcript: https://about.sourcegraph.com/podcast/sam-scott/Sourcegraph: about.sourcegraph.com
Web applications often have some sort of login system, and once a user creates an account, they have access to features anonymous users can't see. In time, application designers will often add an admin level of access for special users. This is often a slow trickle of technical debt. Proper execution of a programmatic authorization

Any project that is used by more than one person will eventually need to handle permissions for each of those users. It is certainly possible to write that logic yourself, but you'll almost certainly do it wrong at least once. Rather than waste your time fighting with bugs in your authorization code it makes sense to use a well-maintained library that has already made and fixed all of the mistakes so that you don't have to. In this episode Sam Scott shares the Oso framework to give you a clean separation between your authorization policies and your application code. He explains how you can call a simple function to ask if something is allowed, and then manage the complex rules that match your particular needs as a separate concern. He describes the motivation for building a domain specific language based on logic programming for policy definitions, how it integrates with the host language (such as Python), and how you can start using it in your own applications today. This is a must listen even if you never use the project because it is a great exploration of all of the incidental complexity that is involved in permissions management.
