This week on Saturday Night Jive we're mourning democracy as we watch an episode of Saturday Night Live.  It's Season 45, an era of the show that George doesn't even enjoy and Ben really hates.  RuPaul hosts and Justin Bieber sings.  Don't worry, you'll get to hear George's opinions about Kitty Scott Claus as well as Ben's pleas to hunt down all Trump supporters.  This is not a good episode of SNL.  It's not a terrible episode, it's just kinda boring.  We get some Thirsty Cops, RuPaul reading some books, two random ladies screaming in a restaurant, two other random ladies sitting on a couch talking about shit, a family game of Charades going wrong, Chad gets dolled up like a drag queen, a debate cold open that Ben didn't even watch, and the immortal Beck Bennett ruining his life over a game of Boop-It (which is the only thing we liked in the whole episode).  Enjoy!  This episode was fan requested, if you'd like to request anything hit us up!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're gearing up for the 2024 election by watching a political comedy from 1995.  Canadian Bacon is the only non-documentary directed by Michael Moore and it's a cold war satire about a fake conflict with our neighbors to the north.  It's fine.  It's the last movie released to feature John Candy's as he died the year before.  It's got Rhea Pearlman obsessed with a building that looks like a penis.  It's got Rip Torn yelling and grunting.  It's got a pretty fun cast also featuring Alan Alda and Kevin Pollak.  But most importantly it features cameos from two SNL alums in Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.  This is our last podcast before the 2024 election but due to an uploading issue it's being released a week later so enjoy that brief moment of time where we still had some hope.  You can also watch this episode on YouTube (search Saturday Night Jive Podcast and you should be able to find it) as we recorded this live to YouTube when we thought we'd never be able to post a new podcast episode.  Anyway, Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

From original posting: "The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" welcome back special guest and "Saturday Night Jive" podcaster George who has devised a special game just for them. He's been eager for weeks to talk about the strange experience that is "The Book of Henry" and has come up with a game to best illustrate the even more strange paths the movie takes. The guys round out the episode with another round of their pun-heavy game So Shalit Be and mourn the loss of Harry Dean Stanton in a typically insufficient way. Available on iTunes Episode 189 includes: -Our long national nightmare is over: J.J. Abrams is returning to direct "Star Wars: Episode 9." -Nate finds Darren Aronfosky's "mother!" to be an interesting allegory, but knows it will be hated. -George cites two 2017 movies that stuck with him, "The Circle" for all the wrong reasons and "Wakefield" for all the right reasons. -This Week's Game I -- And Then...? -George describes sections of the plot of "The Book of Henry" and asks Ben and Nate to predict what will happen next. they are often wrong as this movie reveals itself to be absurdly wrong-headed. -This Week's Game II -- So Shalit Be! -The guys take their turns coming up with Gene Shalit-worthy blurbs for the likes of "Room," "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," "Hackers," and more."

We lost a legend recently and this week on Saturday Night Jive we watched the Bob Newhart episode of SNL from the disastrous Season 20.  In the height of SNL's "bad boy" era, they brought on the television icon to class up the joint a little bit.  What results is an all-around solid and fun show, while maybe not the downright classic that George remembered from his youth.  We get a cold open about the Colin Ferguson trial, a Bob Newhart monologue, Jay Mohr dressed as Ricki Lake, Chris Farley promoting his book of world records, Norm MacDonald anchoring Weekend Update, a very bad Baywatch parody, Bob giving an interview to a disgruntled postal employee, Farley and Chris Elliott playing "Hi, Bob", a manic depressive sports announcer, and the pleasant voice of Des'ree.  R.I.P. The Other Sister directed by our good friend Garry Marshall and starring Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi as two mentally challenged adults who find love is a movie that shouldn't have been made.  We shouldn't have watched it.  In fact, this movie killed the podcast for a little bit as it sent George down an existential rabbit hole where he questioned all reality.  We recorded this episode a while ago but decided not to release it for a variety of reasons (don't worry, it's not like it's terribly offensive or anything but that should explain why we talk about the lead singer of Smash Mouth dying several months after it happened).  What was originally going to be a lost episode is now available for you to listen and judge us for picking a movie like this to watch and then realize that we can't mock it without sounding like dickheads.  Just remember, we're good people who made a mistake.  There's not even an SNL alum to justify this so we should learn from this and stick to only watching movies starring Dan Aykroyd or Tim Kazurinsky on Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Harry And The Hendersons from 1987 starring 3-time SNL host John Lithgow and the immortal Kevin Peter Hall in a bigfoot costume.  This film left George in a world of wonder while Ben is too jaded and cynical to enjoy such whimsy.  Rick Baker won an Oscar for making a terrific character that for some reason the marketing department decided to hide from all advertisement.  You won't see Harry on the poster or in the trailers, you have to pay money to see this.  What happened?  The movie didn't do well commercially but it did inspire a TV sitcom that lasted 3 seasons (somehow) which we get into the weeds with.  Is John Lithgow our greatest living actor?  Did Harry just run out on his family?  These questions and more on this week's episode.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're watching a notorious episode of Saturday Night Live.  It's Season 35 Episode 6 hosted by January Jones with musical guest Black Eyed Peas.  The lovely Miss Jones was starring on an Emmy winning television show at the time so one would only assume she could hold her own on a live sketch comedy show.  All that hope died when she audibly asks what camera she should look at in her first sketch appearance.  What follows is a lot of farts, a lot of gay panic, and worst of all 3 songs from Black Eyed Peas.  Surprisingly, we're torn on this one.  George, a lifelong SNL fan, thinks it's the trainwreck it is historically perceived to be.  Ben on the other hand liked the farts, but maybe that's because he hates this long running show.  Sketches include a Joe Biden cold open, Kathie Lee Gifford getting beaten up by Black Eyed Peas, Grace Kelly farting during Rear Window, Kristen Wiig lezzing out over January Jones, A guide to throwing a 1960's dinner party, Dr. Jekyll explaining a gay Mr. Hyde, Andy Samberg sitting on a toilet, Jason Sudeikis and January looking at clouds, plus Lou Dobbs, Kim Kardashian, and Jon Bovi on Weekend Update.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Tiptoes starring Gary Oldman as a dwarf.  It's a nonsensical film about Matthew McConaughey who is the only non-dwarf in a family of dwarves and he's about to get married to Kate Beckinsale (who sometimes wears a hat).  She doesn't know anything about his family and freaks out when she realizes her soon-to-be-born child might be a dwarf.  So she confronts him at fire fighting training camp, he brings two whores to a dwarf party, David Alan Grier fucks a dwarf, Peter Dinklage and Patricia Arquette fuck to some reggae music, a dad tells a limerick about farts, Jewish wedding.  It's a tale as old as time.  Oh yeah, and Gary Oldman plays McConaughey's dwarf brother so he's on his knees the whole film while he's surrounded by actual little person actors.  It's a big old plate of wrong with a salad of what the fuck on the side.  There are no SNL alums in this movie but David Alan Grier hosted SNL twice and by all accounts should have been a cast member.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking about the 1995 family comedy Man Of The House starring SNL alum Chevy Chase.  After a string of flops (see our episodes on Nothing But Trouble and Cops And Robbersons) Chevy didn't want to do another film but eventually agreed to sign on because he liked the dramatic elements of the script.  One could argue that there shouldn't be dramatic elements in the script of a movie that has Chevy Chase and George Wendt doing a rain dance.  This is not the movie we expected.  We were looking forward to a crazy cat and mouse caper with a lot of Chevy falling down and Jonathan Taylor Thomas laying mousetraps all over the floor.  Instead we got a heartfelt family comedy about a kid learning to love his new stepdad with Enya on the soundtrack.  Of course there's a mafia subplot as well and we get Chevy Chase in a Native American headdress.  Should you talk about sex with your mommy?  What are the artistic values of Cirque du Soleil?  Why did George Wendt's character need to be played by a fat guy?  These questions and more on this week's episode of Saturday Night Jive.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

Ten years after K-9 took cinemas by storm, a direct-to-video sequel was made.  This week on Saturday Night Jive we're finally digging into this trilogy, of course we start with the second one, because we're dumb.  It's K-911 starring an old dog and SNL alum Jim Belushi.  A crazed author is out for revenge on the husband of the woman who rejected his manuscript (because he fell in love with the rejection letter, it's stupid, we talk about it).  Belushi must get a new partner, who has her own dog, and of course also has a crush on our hero, to solve the case.  For a direct to video sequel of a movie you probably didn't see 10 years ago, it's not that bad.  Not saying it's the greatest thing we've ever watched but there was some slight fun to be had in Jim Belushi working out with his dog, picking up dog poop, and of course smelling some doggy farts.  Does a silent-but-deadly count when it comes to Mr. Skids?  Don't worry, we get in to the legitimacy of dog farts.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here
