I hadn't seen this movie in a very long time and I forgot a lot about it, which means I am sure you have as well, that or you have never seen the film. If you are wondering, Beverly Hills Ninja is about a young American boy that washes ashore near a village populated by skilled Japanese warriors, they raise the child as one of them and instruct him in the ways of ninjitsu. Unfortunately, he grows up to be the overweight and inept but very enthusiastic Haru (Chris Farley), who remains intent on becoming a real ninja. Haru's first assignment -- protecting a beautiful woman from California -- doesn't go smoothly, since he's both uncoordinated and completely unaccustomed to Western culture.Beverly Hills Iced Tea (diffordsguide.com):Ingredients3⁄4 oz Hayman's London Dry Gin3⁄4 oz Ketel One Vodka1 oz Cointreau triple sec liqueur1⁄2 oz Lime juice (freshly squeezed)1⁄2 oz Monin Pure Cane Syrup (65.0°brix, equivalent to 2:1 rich syrup)Top up with Brut champagne/sparkling wineDirectionsShake first five ingredients with ice and strain into ice-filled glass. Welcome to DJ Witwicky's Dance Mix. Heavily inspired by the bonus features on the Shrek 1 DVD. From Funk to Spanish, Hip Hop and House music. We have it all on this spectacular installment. But honestly, aside from music I had my mind blown about an hour ago. Beverly Hills Ninja has long been my favorite comedy movie and I've seen it over 100 times easy. Tonight, letting it play in the living room, I realized that one of my favorite podcasters actually played a prominent role in the movie over 25 years ago but he was in disguise and it took me 100 times and years watching to figure it out. Will Sasso plays the role of Chet Walters ink specialist and is involved in the famous laughing mushroom scene. One of my favorite scenes. Unbelievable how stupid I feel. No idea why I felt the need to type this revelation into my Dance Mix bio, but it's typed already and whatever. As always, thank you for being here. Today, Ali and Asif discuss the career of the legendary comedian Chris Farley (1:15). They go over his early life and then highlight some of his famous sketches including ‘Matt Foley' and the Chippendales sketch with Patrick Swayze. They then transition into talking about his movies including ‘Tommy Boy' and ‘Beverly Hills Ninja', as well as the movies he ended up not making, including ‘Shrek' and ‘The Cable Guy'. They discuss Chris' love of John Belushi and how both comedians ended up dying from drug overdoses.    Heart disease and atherosclerosis were contributing factors in Chris Farley's death from a drug overdose and in the second on half, the guys discuss atherosclerosis (35:43). Asif discusses the risk factors as well as the organs that atherosclerosis can affect (mainly heart, brains, intestines, peripheral blood vessels). The guys then take a quick aside to discuss the increased risk of atherosclerosis in South Asians.  Then Asif talks about drugs and lifestyle modifications that can decrease your risk of atherosclerosis.    The opinions expressed are those of the hosts, and do not reflect those of any other organizations. This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking about the 1992 comedy Brain Donors.  There are no SNL alum in this film but it was directed by Dennis Dugan who after watching Problem Child, Beverly Hills Ninja, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, You Don't Mess With The Zohan, Grown Ups, Jack And Jill, and Grown Ups 2 feels like an honorary member of our family.  This is a "remake" of The Marx Brothers film A Night At The Opera (with a little bit of A Day At The Races thrown in) starring John Turturro, the guy who ran the torture machine in The Princess Bride, and some other dude as analogs for Groucho, Chico and Harpo.  It's an odd movie with a few decent gags but you're ultimately left with the feeling of "why didn't I just watch a Marx Brothers movie?".  If we didn't have enough to talk about with this oddity we also discuss Damien Chazelle's Babylon featuring SNL alum Chloe Fineman in a small role.  It's one of our favorite films of 2022 that has an ending that left us both stumped.  Enjoy!Full archive of all podcast episodes available at saturdaynightjive.blogspot.comEmail us anything at saturdaynightjivepodcast@gmail.comDownload Here

What's that one song that gets your blood pumping? The one that you know you can throw on that will pump you up and get you ready to kick some as... thing that may need a decent smattering of kicking? The one that hypes you up more than Flava Flav, the greatest hype man of all time, ever did Public Enemy? Is it "Eye of the Tiger"? "Thunderstruck"? DMX's "Party Up"? "The Final Countdown"? Be real - it's Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude," right? (No judgement - the song is a bop.) We all enjoy that adrenaline advance that hits when we hear that special song or maybe when we roll around on the jiu jitsu mat in our little jiu jitsu costumes looking like the Beverly Hills Ninja lost a few pounds, like our boys Sid and Keith. We rave for that rush ... but does it belong in your business? Our boys say "No" in this week's episode of The Overlap Podcast and they'll tell you why. Businesses need consistency, not chaos - a "slow and steady" wins the race sort of thing, not the hare going like he's mainlined Surge cola into his veins. Our boys will show you that you don't need to be like Bonnie Tyler "Holding Out for a Hero" if you know that a leader is what your business really needs. So, tune in and turn up this week's Overlap Podcast and learn yourself some of that good, good knowledge. (And, seriously, maybe give Flava Flav a gig at your business. It's been a while since those VH1 reality shows were on and I don't think Brigitte Nielsen is going to take him back this time, even though theirs was a love for the ages...)

Today we are remembering Chris Farley and his life as a comedian and actor. His SNL skits will forever play in our minds and remind us of how great he was and how funny he could be. His movies were so much fun like Beverly Hills Ninja, Black Sheep and obviously Tommy Boy. Whether he is paired up against Patrick Swayze in a Chippendale dancer audition or he is roaming the country pushing brake sales for Callahan Auto Factory, he is keeping us laughing. Chris Farley died at age 32 of a drug overdose just like his idol John Belushi. He was taken way too soon but his lifestyle was not meant for longevity. I sometimes wonder how great he could have been if he had just beat the addictions he had in life. In this episode, Jeremy and co-host Andrew Adams take on another iteration of the Rapid Fire Question and Answers. Rapid Fire Q&A #7 - Episode 641 Jeremy and co-host Andrew Adams tackle a series of questions from you, the listeners, in the form of a Rapid Fire Q&A. Here are the questions they tried to answer: Do you think kata or forms suffer PR problems for people outside of the traditional martial arts community? If you think so, how do we fix that PR problem? What do you think of an exchange program, martial arts schools could have with neighboring schools on a regular basis? Do you see the Martial Arts as an industry in the sense of it's a business? Or do you see it in the other dictionary definition of “hard work”? And if so, why? What are your thoughts on the standardization of the Kiai? Should it be the same throughout a particular dojo? Do you find your Kiai differently if you're doing basics than if you're doing forms? Do super fun movies like Kung Pao and Beverly Hills Ninja hurt martial arts reputation?  After listening and answering these questions, it would be exciting to know what are your thoughts about it. Don't forget to drop them in the comment section below!

Before Chris Farley would light it up in the '90s appearing on Saturday Night Live alongside close pals Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Robert Schneider & David Spade. Before Chris Farley would transition to the big screen appearing in films Wayne's World, Coneheads, Billy Madison and later take the lead in Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and Beverly Hills Ninja. Before Chris Farley would make unforgettable late-night appearances like this one on David Letterman in 1996. Before Chris Farley would pass away at the age of 33 in his Chicago apartment, In his all-too-brief career, Chris Farley created hilarious characters that have stood the test of time. For me, as a child The White Ninja, Tommy Boy & his SNL appearances were must know and everyone would have a turn trying to do their best impression of his brilliance. Even in smaller roles Chris always managed to steal the show. Beginning in the Midwest, Farley moved his way through the Chicago improv and sketch comedy scene at IO and Second City. He broke through as a cast member of Saturday Night Live in 1990 before landing roles in several iconic big-screen comedies. Behind the clown, there were plenty of personal demons and struggled with both drug and alcohol abuse. He was in and out of rehab more than a dozen times within a two-year span. We got lots of info in and tidbits even die-hard fans won't know like his future projects that were in the works including him voicing the character of Shrek before his passing.
