It is the second installment of the Predator franchise and the sequel to 1987's Predator, with Kevin Peter Hall reprising the title role of the Predator. In line with its upcoming 35th anniversary, Luke and [co-host] go back and review this moderate box office hit. New month, new theme... after spending last month looking at the past, in September we're "going back to (look at) the future!" That means we'll be talking about movies set in the future relative to film's release but in a year that has already happened in the real world. For instance: 1990's Predator 2, set in near-future 1997 in Los Angeles. Ben, Bree, Sam, and Vaz discuss the extremely sweaty, trash-strewn action of this non-Arnold sequel. Directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, María Conchita Alonso, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Peter Hall.

It's showtime, maniacs! This episode is a monumental occasion for many reasons. Not only is A Comedy Of Horrors coming to an end, not only is it our seven year anniversary, but it's also Gregg's final episode as a full-time host. For these reasons, we had to end on an absolute home run, so we're prepping for the upcoming sequel and discussing Beetlejuice from 1988. Grab a Zagnut and tune in as we break down the flick and talk about other topics such as the inexplicable Pittsburgh connections to this movie, Alkaline Trio suits versus Smash Mouth suits, and how this PG movie is definitely not for kids. Drop that Caramello and check out our Patreon! This month we play a little game Gregg cooked up called Pit Or Pass? Six songs have been selected, all cover songs by late 90s and early 00s nu-metal bands, and we decide whether we hit the pit if it's good or we check out the merch booth if it's bad. For as little as $2 a month you can get in on the action as well with bonus episodes, Discord privileges, livestreams, exclusive merchandise and more! This episode contains Pittsburgh acting legend Michael Keaton, so you probably want more episodes featuring actors from Pittsburgh! Check out our previous episodes containing the work of Tom Atkins: Halloween III (episode 7), Night Of The Creeps (episode 52), The New Kids (episode 87), Creepshow (episode 104), Maniac Cop (episode 130), and The Fog (episode 296). We've also discussed the late great Kevin Peter Hall in Predator (episode 204) and One Dark Night (episode 301). And who could forget Jeff Goldblum in The Fly (episode 76)?

"Predator" (1987), picked by Sargy and directed by John McTiernan, was a significant undertaking that brought together a formidable cast and crew to create a landmark sci-fi action film. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch, the leader of an elite military rescue team, the film blended elements of traditional action with science fiction, introducing a new level of suspense and terror with the titular extraterrestrial antagonist. The Predator, portrayed by Kevin Peter Hall, was a groundbreaking creation in special effects, featuring advanced camouflage technology and thermal vision, making it a formidable and iconic cinematic villain. The film's production team, including special effects wizard Stan Winston, worked meticulously to bring the Predator to life, creating one of the most memorable creatures in cinematic history. "Predator" faced challenges during filming, including the harsh conditions of the Mexican jungle where a significant portion of the movie was shot. The intense physical demands on the actors, especially during the arduous action sequences, added to the authenticity of the film. The camaraderie among the diverse cast, including Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Bill Duke, contributed to the film's dynamic energy. "Predator" was a critical and commercial success, solidifying Schwarzenegger's status as an action star and leaving an enduring impact on the sci-fi and action genres. The film's combination of intense action, innovative special effects, and the menacing presence of the Predator has made it a classic in the annals of action cinema. En este episodio conversamos sobre la película del año 1987, “Predator” (Depredador) del director John McTiernan, protagonizada por Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo y Bill Duke.
This week on Saturday Night Jive we watched Harry And The Hendersons from 1987 starring 3-time SNL host John Lithgow and the immortal Kevin Peter Hall in a bigfoot costume. This film left George in a world of wonder while Ben is too jaded and cynical to enjoy such whimsy. Rick Baker won an Oscar for making a terrific character that for some reason the marketing department decided to hide from all advertisement. You won't see Harry on the poster or in the trailers, you have to pay money to see this. What happened? The movie didn't do well commercially but it did inspire a TV sitcom that lasted 3 seasons (somehow) which we get into the weeds with. Is John Lithgow our greatest living actor? Did Harry just run out on his family? These questions and more on this week's episode. “GET TO THE CHOPPER!“On this week's episode, we revisit the 1987 action/horror classic, Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and directed by John McTiernan. This was an interesting film to revisit since both Austin and Jorge don't really have a deep connection to the film, having only seen it a few times each. But it seems that they are both in the minority, with everyone else saying that this is an absolute classic piece of cinema, going down with the some of the best action and horror films, alongside Alien, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and many more. But those the film actually hold up? Does the film deliver on all these promises and how well does it stack to other films of the same genre and decade. That's what we go over in this episode. We go over the similarities between this film and other great horror films, and how closely this movie uses those tropes to create an atmosphere of dread that soon the characters feel. And look at each of the characters, from Jesse Ventura's Blaine to Carl Weather's Dillon, and how they take up the role of classic horror archetypes, and how our favorite action hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is actually this film's version of the “Final Girl” trope, placing right up there with Jamie Lee Curtis, Neve Campbell, and Sigourney Weaver. But we also take about the action tropes that it uses, and how well does the film balance these genres out and whether the film masters both of them equally, or if it a bit one sided. Specifically, we look into the deaths of each character and whether we think those deaths are on par with classic horror kills, like to Johnny Depp's death in A Nightmare of Elm Street, and whether the deaths hold up.We talk about how difficult the production was on the entire cast and crew, including on the actors playing the title villain. Originally played by someone who would become very famous in the future, the actor would go on and talk about how difficult it was to play the villain in such a difficult environment that brough in extreme heat, difficult terrain to maneuver in, and a filming schedule that was brutal. We breakdown how difficult it was to place and operate a camera in this environment, just to give you an idea of how just aspect of filming was worsened by filming in the brutal jungle. From there we talk about how that actor was fired and replaced by Kevin Peter Hall, or as many people are familiar with him, Harry and the famous NBC show Harry and the Hendersons. Standing at over 7 feet tall, this change in actor and costume proved to be one of the best changes for the film, creating a creature that has stood the test of time and placed among the great villains in cinema history. We end the episode talking about the portrayal of the country the film takes place in, and how even though it might not have been intended, reflected the real history of the United State's involvement in Central American's politics during the cold war, and how that may have potentially been part of the inspiration for the 2022 Hulu film, Prey. Lastly, we talk about John McTiernan and the controversies he was wrapped in concerning and ex-wife and a producer on a future project. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode on PredatorMusic is from Triune Digital and audio clips pulled from movies we will be reviewing in other episodes.Artwork by @jannelle_o

Zach & Zo join a squad of crack commandoes on a rescue mission in the jungles of South America (we think; you know: the location isn't all that important. Just think jungle, stifling heat and humidity, sweat and mosquitoes). Anyway, in that jungle, there's something out there, and it ain't no man. We all gon' die. But if it bleeds we can kill it, then we can GET TO DA CHAPPA! GET TO DA CHAPPA NOWWWW!!! You guessed it: this week we take a shallow dive into the original Predator movie! www.backlookcinema.comEmail: fanmail@backlookcinema.comTwitter: @backlookcinemaFacebook: The Back Look Cinema Podcast Instagram: backlookcinemapodcastThe song "Hero Military Madness" and sound effects provided by Alan McKinney and Zapsplat.com
Get to the chopper, maniacs! We're kicking off Action August with a bona fide classic, the 1987 creature feature Predator! We're also celebrating the release of Ben's new movie, BERGERON BROTHERS: WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHERS, releasing to VOD August 10th, by bringing along some fellow cast members from the movie. Joining us this week is one-third of BPO Films and four-time guest, Ryan Lintner. While we try our best to refrain from doing too many Arnold impressions (which we fail at horribly) we also discuss topics such as which high school Kevin Peter Hall went to, tree juice and where it comes from, and we try to figure out what a "sexual tyrannosaurus" is.
Big thank you to the legendary actor and director Bill Duke for coming on my show for an interview! Bill talked about the racism he endured in his early life, winning awards for his poetry, and his experience of growing up in Poughkeepsie, New York. He got into his time in college attending Boston University, New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and the renowned AFI Conservatory, where he learned about film-making. We went over his work on Broadway, his first major role as Abdullah Mohammed Akbar aka Duane in Car Wash, and working alongside Richard Gere as Leon in American Gigolo. Bill is a major part of history as he is one of the first black directors, especially in television as he had his time directing for Dallas, Miami Vice, and The Twilight Zone. In 1985, he starred in Commando as Cooke alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alyssa Milano. He talked about his fight scene with Arnold in Commando during the motel scene. He then got into his role as Sergeant Mac in Predator, how Kevin Peter Hall was not the first person to play the Predator in the film, and working with Carl Weathers once again a year later in Action Jackson. We discussed his most famous scene in cinema history in Menace II Society with Tyrin Turner as a detective where he has the famous line, "You know you done fucked up". We also got into his role as Levar in Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Despite his acting career, we went over his work as a director that includes Deep Cover, A Rage in Harlem, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and Hoodlum. He recently released his book titled Bill Duke: My 40-Year Career on Screen and Behind the Camera and announced that he has two more books on the way. We also got into his Duke Media Foundation and how he helps the youth with his classes regarding acting and film-making. Bill mentioned that he wants to cast Snoop Dogg in one of his upcoming works. He also just started his own network called the Unite Network that helps bring people together. Thank you Bill Duke for making history and all that you have done for TV & film. That's right, this time on Planet 8, we take on that ugly mutha f#@%! -The Predator! An iconic creature design, and a classic original film, your crew takes a look at not only that first film, but the maybe not so great films that followed! The 1987 Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is one of the great sci fi action films, but the Predator itself went through many changes before we got the amazing alien hunter we see on screen. We'll go through all the mis-fires and how we eventually got the brilliant design from legendary Stan Winston and his team. Of course, you have to bring the suit to life, and we can't forget the portrayal of the Predator by the late Kevin Peter Hall. He gave the Predator a real sense of intelligence and personality. The first film also featured a very entertaining cast as the special crack team of commandos. Besides Arnold as the leader, Dutch, there was Jesse Ventura, Bill Duke, Sonny Landham, and Carl Weathers. This strong set of characters contributes to the enjoyment of the film, so that the viewer is glued to the screen even when the Predator is not around. Predator moves from action film to sci fi to horror and back around again, but does it flawlessly, with perfect pacing, keeping the suspense going in the early parts, right up to the final battle between Dutch and the Predator. It's hard to find fault in this film. Even Alan Silvestri's score is perfect! However, the subsequent cinematic appearances of the Predator have never measured up to the first one. Predator 2, with Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Bill Paxton, was set in Los Angeles in 1997 (released in 1990) and featured a new predator hunting in the sweltering city. While it's still fun seeing the Predator, it just isn't as interesting as the original. The cast doesn't gel as well. But there are some cool bits, especially towards the end when Glover faces the Predator and enters his spaceship. The further we get away from the original, the more the quality suffers. AVP -Alien vs. Predator - seems like a sure fire concept, but it was a bit of a mess. AVP:Requiem -well, we didn't even rewatch it! 2010's Predators is somewhat entertaining, but we all agree, Adrien Brody was miscast as the tough special forces guy. It had some nice variations on the basic predator design though. But the worst of all the follow ups was 2018's The Predator - there are stories that this film was heavily rewritten and edited, but even so, good lord, what a terrible film. While not an official Predator film, a flick we do love is the short film Batman: Dead End, which features the Dark Knight versus both Predators and Aliens. You can see it here on YouTube. Will anyone ever be able to make another truly terrific Predator movie? What would it take? Is it just a limited concept? What do you think? For our Sensor Sweep this time, Recon Office Karen shares one of her beloved pieces from her collection, her Sideshow Legendary Scale Bust of the unmasked Predator. This was produced in 2011 and is still available from certain stores and on eBay. It's about 16" high and has all the fine detail we've come to expect from Sideshow. So if you're a big fan of the Predator, you might want to hunt it down! That's all for this time. Let us know what you think of the different Predator films, and what we discussed in this episode.Twitter: https://twitter.com/Planet8CastFacebook: www.Facebook.com/Planet8PodcastRemember: If it bleeds, we can kill it!
In this episode Mark talks about one of his favourite films: the 1987 science fiction action horror film "Predator" directed by John McTiernan. The first installment in the Predator franchise, the film stars Arnold Schwarzeneggar as Major Alan "Dutch" Schafer, the leader of an elite paramilitary rescue team, who are recruited to save some hostages that have been imprisoned in guerilla-held territory in a Central American rainforest, but who unwittingly find themselves in the crosshairs of a Predator from a technologically-advanced alien race who stalk their targets while continuing to remain invisible and who hunt and kill those whom they see as their prey and who treat whomever they kill as trophies - including the members of an elite mercenary rescue team, whose numbers dwindle one by one as they face off and ultimately find themselves outmatched by this lone deadly extraterrestrial creature. The film also stars Carl Weathers as Dillion, Bill Duke as Sergeant Mac, Richard Chaves as "Poncho" Ramírez, Jesse Ventura as Blain, Sonny Landham as Billy, Shane Black as Hawkins, Elpidia Carrillo as Anna, R.G. Armstrong as Major General Phillips, and Kevin Peter Hall as The Predator. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/markthepoet/message

To celebrate the release of the new The Predator film, we’re rewinding to 1987 to look at where it all began with the John McTiernan directed movie Predator. Predator is where science fiction meets action and horror. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the leader of an elite military rescue team on a mission to save hostages in guerrilla-held territory in an unspecified country in Central America. To make matters worse, there’s Kevin Peter Hall co-starring as the technologically advanced extra-terrestrial hunter – the Predator, secretly stalking and hunting the team.

Greetings creatures, and welcome back to Horror Business, the podcast that comes from a dying planet to rob all men, seduce all women, and learn the peppermint twist. Thank you as always for checking us out and we have got one heck of an episode for you guys. First and foremost we want to give a shoutout to our sponsors over at Lehigh Valley Apparel Creations, the premiere screenprinting company of the Lehigh Valley. Chris Reject and his merry band of miscreants are ready to work with you to bring to life your vision of a tshirt for your business, band, project, or whatever else it is you need represented by a shirt, sweater, pin, or coozy. Head on over to www.xlvacx.com to check them out. Thanks! This episode we take a look at two films that involve killer aliens but aren’t Alien: 1980’s Without Warning and 1983’s Xtro. If you remember we were supposed to do these films last episode but ended not being to get ahold of them, so we’re doing them now. We begin by giving a shout out to Chris and LVAC, and then talking about what we’ve seen recently. Liam talks about how he decided to go ahead and see The Girl With All The Gifts without Justin because he hates Justin. We briefly talk about looking forward to seeing the upcoming Jordan Peele horror film Get Out. Liam talks about seeing The Devils for an upcoming episode of Cinepunx and sings praises to the glory of Oliver Reed. Justin talks about starting the final book in Justin Cronin’s The Passage trilogy and his disappointment with the horror film Abattoir. We briefly hype the Mahoning Drive In’s upcoming Zombiefest in May (May 26-28) and the upcoming Exhumed Films Empire Pictures Triple Feature at International House on Saturday February 25th. Up first is 1980s Without Warning. We are not very kind or gentle with this move. We start with Liam admonishing Justin about his fear of aliens (and sharks) and we briefly discuss some upcoming episodes we may or may not do about aliens. Liam brings up that most people might already know about Without Warning just based on how awesome the poster was. Justin and Liam discuss the plot similarities with 1987’s classic Predator and Justin makes a horrible joke about ‘predating’ and how this movie is so bad it really highlights how good Predator is. Liam points out that despite the differences in quality both movies feature the talents of Kevin Peter Hall, who played both the aliens in both films. The weird opening sequence featuring a man hunting with his strange hippie adult son is discussed, as is the lack of clarity as to who the antagonists of the film are, because despite the main alien being prominently featured in all of the advertising most of the conflict involves the living weapons the alien uses. The lack of any real interesting characters, the repeated use of horror movie tropes, and the excess of pointless plots threads are discussed. Martin Landau’s offensive portrayal of a vet suffering from PTSD is briefly touched upon, Jack Palance’s character as the sole voice of reason, and Landau’s characters insanity are all talked about. More plot details are discussed, more 80s horror tropes are examined, the long dragged out scene in an isolated house in which we finally see the main alien is dissected, and Liam and Justin almost get into an argument over whether or not the alien is a Tall White or a Gray (spoiler: Liam’s wrong it’s a Gray). Jack Palance’s horrible horrible final call out to the alien is discussed. We talk about the incredibly small budget for this movie and how half of it went to hiring Jack Palance and Martin Landau and then a sizeable portion of the remainder went to Rick Baker to create the head of the alien, which given Rick Baker’s relative obscurity at the time made no sense. The obviousness of the filmmakers delaying the reveal of the main alien by using the shitty small creatures is discussed, and Liam goes on a diatribe about the absurdity of aliens who are advanced enough to travel through space have...
