Katie Pate is the Senior Associate AD and Director of Development at George Mason University. Throughout her career within intercollegiate athletics, Pate has excelled in many leadership positions as a head basketball coach, a broadcaster, an external relations leader, and a fundraiser. She previously worked in athletic administration for both Appalachian State and Longwood University.In addition to her administrative success, Pate had several coaching stops, including head coaching positions with Belmont Abbey, Lenoir-Rhyne, and her alma mater, Coker College, plus stints as an assistant at Marshall, Georgia State, Coker, Wingate, and USC Upstate. We continue our conversation with Campbell Hall of Famer Wanda Watkins in Part 2 of Tales From The Creek. In the fall of 1975 Wanda Watkins enrolled at Campbell College. Little did she know at that moment that her collegiate and professional career would last nearly five decades – all of which would be spent in Buies Creek. Campbell's first-ever female athletic scholarship recipient, Wanda distinguished herself on the basketball court and softball field – so much so that upon graduation in 1979, she was hired as an assistant coach. Just two years later, Wanda was hired as HEAD basketball coach – a job she held for 35 years in a Hall of Fame career. After retiring from coaching in 2016, she moved into the administrative side of the athletics department, where she has served as Senior Associate AD, Senior Woman Administrator, and interim AD. Coach Watkins will retire in May after 49 seasons of service to the University as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator. Her face certainly would appear on the Mount Rushmore of Fighting Camel Athletics.

Jamaal Walton serves as the Senior Associate AD for Sport Administration and Strategic Initiatives. In his role, Walton will lead the department's strategic initiatives, including Name, Image, and Likeness, and is a liaison to campus partners on special projects. He serves as the sport administrator for track and cross country, beach volleyball, softball and secondary sport administrator for men's basketball, and has program oversight of the Husky Band and Spirit programs. Prior to the UW, Walton served as Associate Athletic Director for External Relations at the College of Charleston. While there, Walton oversaw all aspects of the department's communications, creative content, licensing, marketing & promotions, multimedia, facilities & operations, spirit & band, and ticket operations & sales. Additionally, he served as sport administrator for equestrian and men's soccer, while also serving as the department's Diversity & Inclusion designee. Prior to his time in Charleston, Walton was the Director of Marketing and Promotions at the University of Alabama from 2012-2017 where he was responsible for the Crimson Tide's marketing efforts for all 21 varsity programs. Before making the move to Tuscaloosa, he held the role of Assistant Director of Marketing and Promotions at the University of Oklahoma from 2010-2012. A 2007 graduate Virginia Military Institute, Walton earned his bachelor's degree in biology. A four-year letter winner and captain on the VMI football team, Walton was also named class president. In March of 2022, Cori Bolts was promoted to lead the Student-Athlete Center for Excellence (SACE) as the Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Success. In her new role, Bolts leads SACE and continues as sport program administrator for the Baylor Softball program. SACE is responsible for the academic welfare and support of Baylor University's student-athletes in all 19 varsity sports. The department consists of two major areas, Academic Services and Character Formation. Bolts previously served as Associate AD for Character Formation, where she was charged with leading a three-member team focused on developing and enhancing Character Formation programming. Bolts joined Baylor after spending a year and half as the Director of Leadership and Education for Women Leaders in College Sports. During her time at Women Leaders in College Sports, Bolts planned, managed and executed all educational programming content and professional development programming for the association. Bolts was instrumental in revamping the Rising Stars program, organizing the 2017 Women Leaders National Convention programming and supporting the Women of Color Initiative. Prior to joining Women Leaders, Bolts served as the Director of Student-Athlete Development from 2013-2017 at K-State Athletics and she got her start as Assistant Director of Student Services at the University of Central Florida. Bolts is a graduate of the University of Georgia where she earned bachelor's degrees in Marketing and Sport Business Management. She also received her master's degrees in Business Administration and Sport Business Management from the University of Central Florida.
