Ik was de afgelopen week in Parijs. Dat was geweldig, ik ben naar de House of Worth-tentoonstelling geweest, heb alsmaar baguettes naar binnen gewerkt en ik heb heerlijk rondgedwaald over begraafplaats Père Lachaise.  Onderweg naar deze begraafplaats kwam ik niet geheel toevallig langs een boekwinkeltje en daar vond ik, dat was wel toevallig, een boek over de vrouwen van Père lachaise. Want Père Lachase is vooral bekend vanwege de beroemde heren die er begraven liggen: we noemen een Jim Morrison, een Frederic Chopin en een Marcel Proust, maar er liggen natuurlijk ook heel veel vrouwen begraven. Damews die in hun tijd bekend waren maar nu misschien niet meer zo. Zoals dichteres Claire Goll. Het is een prachtig boek, Mère Lachaise van Camille Paix, en ik dook in al die dames, zocht schilderijen en foto's uit hun tijd, las hun gedichten. Ik vond het zo leuk dat ik dacht: waarom maak ik niet een serietje De Ontembaren, dames die ondanks de gangbare mores een stempel op de wereld hebben gedrukt in hun tijd, zelfs al weet niet iedereen dat meer. Dus vandaag deel 1 in de serie De Ontembaren: dichter Claire Goll die affaires had met Rainer Maria Rilke, André Malraux en Franz Werfel. Na haar dood laat ze een buitengewoon venijnige autobiografie publiceren waarin iedereen een flinke trap na krijgt maar vooral James Joyce: dat stuk schors zonder sap of warmte, die uitgedroogde peer... Im Hamburger Anzeiger vom 18. Mai 1925 erfahren wir vom berühmten Iwan Goll, dass der Boulevard sterbe, aber Goll konstatiert dies ohne die große sentimentale Träne im Knopfloch. Vor den Angelsachsen, die jetzt angeblich alles übernehmen, mag er sich nicht fürchten und das Lied vom Touristen, der das zerstöre, was er suche, indem er es finde, nicht anstimmen – auch wenn es anfangs so klingt. Before he became the bass player for Donnie Iris and Cruisers in 1992, Paul Goll played in Erie bands like The Web of Sound, Anacrusis, and Real To Reel in the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1970s he left Erie for Florida and toured up and down the East Coast with his band Powerglide for over a decade before returning to Erie to Play in Mr. Gone. Throughout those years, he has played with some of Erie's finest rock-and-roll musicians, and he still gets to play with his long-time friend Marty Lee in Donnie Iris's band. Offensichtlich schrieb er neben seinen, von der Tendenz dem Expressionismus zugerechneten Gedichtzyklen, hin und wieder für Berliner Zeitungen, denn wir stoßen auf ihn im Berliner Börsen-Courier vom 4. Juni 1923. Dort stellt er die zeitlose Frage danach, was eigentlich „Kunst“ sei. Bei seinem Antwortversuch spielen auch eine Automobilausstellung und neueste Entwicklungen des Rundfunks eine Rolle.
