He secured a gift of more than $1 million to make Culver-Stockton the permanent home of the Tri-State Development Summit, an economic development organization covering 36 counties and three states. He expanded programs to meet local workforce needs, including establishing new majors in agricultural business and data analytics. Palmer has a strong belief that a high-quality private education should be accessible for all students. Palmer started his career at Walsh University, a Catholic university in North Canton, Ohio teaching world history where he became chair of the Humanities Division. His interest in helping students prepare for an interconnected world and global economy through the lens of Catholic social teaching led him to establish Walsh's global learning program. Founder of Walsh's campus in Rome, Italy, Palmer oversaw programs in Europe, Latin America and Africa. He worked with students to lead Walsh's efforts in Universities Fighting World Hunger and attended a United Nations charter signing event in which higher education leaders from around the world pledged to direct the teaching and research efforts of modern colleges and universities to solve global hunger. In addition, he worked with local leaders and healthcare institutions as Provost to create programs which served the needs of the local community. He led the efforts to create a fully online nurse practitioner program in mental health and addictions treatment and a Master's in Occupational Health to better serve Ohio's healthcare needs. As a researcher, Palmer has published and spoken often about law, politics and religion, particularly in the context of the American and French Revolutions. It's time for Short Time Shots, a quick look at the day in college wrestling. The only Division I dual of the night saw the Roger Kish era begin in his home state as the Oklahoma Sooners topped Central Michigan 29-11 in Mount Pleasant. Kish, a four-time state champion from Lapeer West saw a wave of transfers impact the victory, including All-American Stephen Buchanan at 197 pounds. Other new faces to earn wins were Jace Koelzer at 133 pounds, Cael Carlson at 165 pounds and Giuseppe Hoose at 184. The Chippewas did get solid victories from Corbyn Munson at 149, Johnny Lovett at 157 and one of the last of the Monarch Gang, Alex Cramer at 174. In Division II, top-ranked Lander shutout Limestone 48-0 in Greenwood, South Carolina on Thursday. In case you hadn't been paying attention, R.C. LaHaye has assembled a pretty formidable squad with the Lander Bearcats. All-Americans James Joplin, David Hunsberger and Juan Edmond-Holmes. Second-ranked West Liberty was also in action. The Hilltoppers got a scare from Mercyhurst as falls by top-ranked Ty McGeary at 184 and fourth-ranked Francesco Borsellino at 285 pushed West Liberty past the Lakers 24-20 in Erie. The top individual matchup went Mercyhurst's way as sixth-ranked Dillon Walker majored third-ranked and returning All-American Alec Cook 15-3 at 165. Out on the western slope, No. 22 Western Colorado used the third criteria, most match points, to edge No. 18 Nebraska-Kearney 21-20. The Mountaineers were led by returning All-Americans Patrick Allis at 133 pounds and Cole Hernandez at 174. Allis teched Hector Serratos, while Hernandez topped Jacobi Deal 12-6. The Lopers wrestled without all five of their preseason ranked wrestlers and reported the dual on their own website as their B team competing. Welp, it was still on the schedule … Northern State, which is in SOUTH Dakota topped Fort Hays State 35-6. Colorado School of Mines meat-wadded Otero Junior College 56-0. No, that's not a dig on Otero, just a nod to Mines' coach Austin DeVoe. In Division III, Fifth-ranked UW-La Crosse blanked UW-Oshkosh 59-0. The math says six falls, three forfeits and a technical fall. That's former Fargo champ Ben Kawczynski with the tech at 197, by the way. Cornell College dominated NAIA St. Ambrose 45-5. Elmhurst and Coach Steve Marianetti beat Augustana, the one in Illinois, 26-22. The Blue Jays got a win at heavyweight to pull that one out. Tenth-ranked Wabash topped Albion 25-10. All-American Charles Baczek earned a 3-0 victory over Owen McDaniel at 184 pounds. It's the Little Giants first dual win under new head coach Jake Fredericksen, who assumed the role after longtime coach Brian Anderson left for a gig at Indiana University. No. 12 Stevens Institute made the trip to Wisconsin and took down 8th-ranked UW-Eau Claire 19-16 down in La Crosse. This one hand a handful of ranked matchups, highlighted by a pair of All-Americans meeting at 174 pounds. Second-ranked Jared Stricker topped fourth-ranked Stefan Major 10-7 at 174 pounds. At 133, Eau Claire's top-ranked Tyler Fleetwood shutout 12th-ranked Luke Hoerle 5-0 and at 165, 15th-ranked Harrison Hinojosa of Stevens knocked off seventh-ranked Travis Massie 4-1 in sudden victory. In the CCIW, Carthage topped Concordia, the one in Wisconsin, 25-20. In case you're wondering, Carthage is also in Wisconsin. Kenosha to be exact. Seventh-ranked North Central beat Wheaton 47-6 for the program's 40th conference win in a row. In the NAIA, Southeastern, in Florida, picked up a 32-10 victory over the Bobcats of St. Thomas, which is also in Florida. You might remember the logo from that dude's shirt who won Big Brother. You know, the guy who paraded around the house banging pans. Yeah, that guy sucked. As far as people who don't suck, All-Americans Andreus Bond Gabe Jacobs were among the notable winners for the FIRE! FIRE! Speaking of things that are red, the Red Raiders of Northwestern College, the one in Iowa, beat the Beavers of Buena Vista 32-12. Rik Dahl, we say it almost every mention, they're the RED Raiders from Orange City, Iowa. This dual featured FIVE technical falls. I think the kids are liking the new takedown and nearfall rules. Lourdes beat Siena Heights 45-6. Graceland beat St. Mary 25-23. Southeast Community College, which is in Nebraska, beat Northeastern Junior College, which is in Colorado, 39-9 in junior college action. Not too much happening on the women's mats, but Alma College in Michigan hosted its first event as a new women's wrestling program. It didn't go the Scots way as they dropped matches to Northern Michigan 38-5 and Trine 29-20. Northern Michigan beat Trine 34-10. McKendree, ranked third among NCAA women's teams, topped Missouri Baptist, the 10th-ranked NAIA squad, 34-14. McKendree's Shelby Moore topped NAIA All-American Juliana Diaz 8-3 at 123 pounds. Emory & Henry beat Southern Virginia 31-19 and Bluefield State 38-11.

Coach Joe PechotaIn this episode, you'll hear from Coach Joe Pechota. Coach Pechota is currently the Head Coach at Siena Heights University. Coach Joe has been the head coach at this tremendous NAIA university for over a decade now. Coach Joe has coached NAIA All-America Honorable Mentions Keith Jordan Jr. and DeMarco Dickerson. He has also coached five All-WHAC selections. Coach Joe came to the Saints after seven seasons as the head coach for Brescia University, an NAIA Division II team in Owensboro, Kentucky. Under Coach Pechota's leadership, Brescia appeared in two consecutive Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finals. Coach Joe coached six Bearcats to NAIA All-America honors. Prior to coaching at Brescia, Coach Pechota was at Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne where he transitioned from assistant to associate head coach to interim head coach during his six seasons at IPFW. Coach Joe played for Concordia University. Immediately, you will find out that Coach Joe coaches to help his players grow. Specifically, to grow players and people. And, there are a couple of themes in this conversation that demonstrate how he helps his guys grow. First, wait to hear how he talks about CONFRONTATION in leadership. This is, for sure, a growth mindset leadership approach. And, I can't wait for you to hear him give his thoughts on COMMITMENT. Just wait for you to hear him talk about Commitment versus Convenient. Quite simply, he weaves this topic from the middle of the podcast to the very end. It is outstanding. I firmly believe that coaches can coach - no matter at what level. Coach Joe is another great example to illustrate my belief. Coach Jason Owens, In this episode, you'll hear from Coach Jason Owens. Coach Owens is currently an Assistant Coach for Coach Jared Phay at Missouri State University-West Plains. Coach Owens joined the West Plains Coaching staff in the Summer of 2020. As you soon will hear, I have known Coach Owens since he was a little guy - actually when Coach Owens was seven years old. Jason's Dad, Coach Derrick Owens, is a hall of fame coach in Michigan - winning four State Championships and coaching countless players to college. I can't wait for you to hear Coach Jason's admiration for his father! Jason played college basketball at Siena Heights in Michigan. Siena Heights is a terrific NAIA program. Jason was a two-year team captain and all-conference player for Siena Heights. Coach Owens's coaching career is deep with experience at all levels. Jason has coached at Neosho Community College, Siena Heights, Central Michigan, Moberly Area Community College, Pittsburg State University, and Southeast Missouri State University. Right off the bat, you will instantly connect with Coach Owens. He makes it loud and clear that “Developing the Total Person” is at the core of his coaching philosophy. And the leadership to Coach Jason is simply “Getting to a Young Person's Heart.” Wait for Coach Owens's daily mantra; which is simply: “Take the Stairs.” It is a tremendous mindset. Trust me, you will debate taking the elevator over the stairs! However, this extremely descriptive mindset defines every day, every profession move, and every life move that Coach Owens makes. Finally, the countless coaching personal experiences that Coach Owens shares for younger players are sensational. If you have worked for a demanding head coach or boss, then this podcast will stop you in your tracks! As Coach Owens bluntly says: “Are you going to stop coaching and start pouting?” Wait until you hear this inspiring professional advice. I am convinced that West Plains is fortunate to have Coach Owens in their program. As a matter of fact, Any Head Coach or Athletic Director would be LUCKY to Have Coach Owens COACHING in their basketball program!Follow Coach Jason OwensSimpsons is Greater ThanA podcast about the impact of The Simpsons. On this episode of The Massimo Show Rod sits down with decorated former US Army Black Hawk Helicopter pilot and Motivational Speaker, Elizabeth McCormick. Elizabeth flew command and control, air assault, rappelling, top-secret intelligence missions, and also transported high level government VIPs including the Secretary of Defense. She has received many awards in the army, and supported United Nations peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal for her excellence in service. In 2011, Elizabeth was awarded the US Congressional Veteran. Elizabeth grew up in rural Michigan and went to an agricultural school with less than 50 students. “I was a geek, shy just starting to play sports and trying to find out who I was.” Elizabeth recalls during her talk with Rod. “My mom worked 2 jobs and because I was playing sports, I would sometimes have to walk home 7 miles after practice. At home, I would do my homework and read until early morning.” Because her school was so small, they needed people for almost every sport and Elizabeth stepped up where she was needed. After being offered a volleyball scholarship for a D3 college - Siena Heights in Michigan- Elizabeth, an aspiring architect, went on to double major in art and math with an associates in engineering. Eventually she had to stop playing volleyball because it interfered with her studies and subsequently gave up her scholarship as well. In the last year of college Elizabeth met what she refers to as her “starter husband” a well-intentioned army bound young man whom she married in her final year of college. She followed him to small town Louisiana and found herself working in a pizza place. “That made me pissed off,” Elizabeth recalls candidly, “five years of college with student loans knocking at the door. I realized I couldn't change my circumstances so I had to look at what I could change. I realized if my husband could go in the military, so could I.” Everything she went through after that decision was a matter of self-motivation. “If I don't believe in me no one else is going to believe in me.” Elizabeth tells Rod. What seemed like a simple decision ended up being an extremely difficult life change. From the recruiter who didn't know how to do the paperwork, to the flight doctor who called her a “little girl”, to the crew at the MEPS station who told her the test was going to be difficult, she faced adversity at every turn. It wasn't until she got through the process and went through basic training to candidate school that she learned there were only 2 spots in the nation! “If I had known that, I might not have been as confident.” she recalls. Despite her shy demeanor she was determined. “My mission to be who I wanted to be was more important than being shy... It is these situations that make you realize how much you have within you.” Elizabeth notes that she was then and is often now driven by four distinct words: Do you want this? If you don't believe this is going to happen, no one is going to. Life Lessons Learned from Piloting: Every year as a pilot you have to prove yourself and show you are skilled in what you do. After two years of flying you go to the pilot in command for a promotion. After my second year in Germany I was up for this promotion. What you have to do is fly the map of the earth. The instructor got lost. I pushed myself because I realized you can't depend on other people. You are in the pilot seat. No matter what role you are in there is no autopilot. We have to lead instead of follow. 5 truths to Leading yourself in Life Potential Implementation Leadership (Communicate Aviate Navigate) Optimal Performance Tenacity Business after the Military I would have still been in the military however, I was injured and offered a medical retirement and got out of the military right before 9/11. This is when I got my first corporate job working as a warehouse inventory accounting and worked my way up to purchasing manager. My last job I was a commodity and international contract negotiator. I was broken. I came out of the military physically and emotionally broken. I was not ready to speak. It was the community who found out I was a helicopter pilot that would ask me to speak at school or church events. At every event I would speak at after I would get 5 more calls to speak elsewhere. At this time, I am still working a corporate job so I am turning a lot of them down. It wasn't until someone said we will pay you. In 2009, I was laid off. And that is when I realized what I was supposed to be doing. Rod and Elizabeth round out the interview talking about the meaning of “SOAR” and how setbacks in life can lead to your greatest accomplishments in business ownership.
