This Tuesday Joe Biden signed into law a sweeping tax, healthcare, and climate bill, called the Inflation Reduction Act, a significantly pared back version of the “Build Back Better Plan” which he was pushing for last year.Fans of the new law claim that it will improve citizens' finances while reducing the federal deficit and critics say it will lead to higher taxes for individuals and corporations, and that it will be ineffective at dampening inflation. Let's look at the new legislation and try and work out to what extent it might reduce inflation which has been at its highest rate in around 40 years and see who the winners and losers are. The build back better plan was initially proposed as a way to improve infrastructure and create jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thursday April 21, 2022 - The Biden Build Back Better Plan is still being pushed by some in Congress. You can predict, right after Tax Day, 2 things: First, the IRS will ask for more money to preform their duties (we covered that yesterday). Second, we should give the IRS more power to make filing easier. One can find a plethora of stories detailing how cheap it is in other countries to prepare taxes. "In Sweden, you get a text message," "In Croatia it takes five minutes." The one element these stories leave out - is government control. If the government controls every aspect of citizens lives and has these details readily available, the government can make these decisions for the citizens. It may be cheaper - out of pocket for taxpayers - the real cost is much more. There is an old saying - if you want to make something really expensive - make it FREE. Attorney Steven A. Leahy discusses these issues on Today's Tax Talk. https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/3274430-the-irs-is-in-no-position-to-do-your-taxes/ https://techcrunch.com/2022/04/21/a16z-debuts-new-crypto-research-team-led-by-columbia-stanford-researchers/ https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-21/crypto-billionaire-rankles-wall-street-with-futures-trading-plan --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-leahy1/message

Biden's Build Back Better Plan has been delayed - but not killed! the US Chamber of Commerce, Republican Senators, and Editorial Boards across the Nation are still strongly opposing making the IRS bigger and more powerful than ever. They oppose the $80 billion increase in IRS funding and the 87,000 additional employees proposed by the Bill. The best step, say many, would be to eliminate the IRS altogether, pointing to the history of abuse and targeting for politics rather than policy. The Bank Reporting scheme is also not yet dead. So, Senators Carpo and Capito, among others, continue to speak out about the plan. Attorney Steven A. Leahy looks at the reports opposing making the IRS Bigger and More Powerful than ever before. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-leahy1/message

Today we are going through some of the tax provisions of the Build Back Better Bill. The Democratic Party has promised extreme amounts of spending and it could be very detrimental to the financial health of the United States.
Biden's Build Back Better Plan proposes a whooping $80 Billion increase to the IRS budget, adding roughly 87,000 new employees. That's nearly doubling the current size of the IRS. Many in Congress are questioning the wisdom of such a move. Senators Grassly, Capito, & Thune and others have publicly objected to the IRS budget increase. Citing past IRS indiscretions and outright bulling of taxpayers, those Senators have said no to the Build Back Better Plan. Last week Attorney Leahy talked about the IRS case against Charlie Sheen. This week the IRS publicized their case against the actor Chris Tucker. Make no mistake, there will be additional cases in the news in the coming weeks - just as tax season approaches. The purpose is to scare American Taxpayers to tow the line. Everyone should pay their fair share in taxes, as dictated by the IRS Code. But, harassing taxpayers and making examples out of some in order to scare overcompliance - which is what happens when taxpayers are frightened about what can happen if they make a mistake - is wrong. Attorney Steven A. Leahy reviews this matter with his viewers and listeners. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-leahy1/message

This past week, heavy negotiations have been taking place amongst House Democrats for President Biden's Build Back Better Plan. Due to lawmakers inability to get on the same page, many programs that were in the original plan have been completely cut, including Paid Family Leave. In this week's episode of Black Girl Voices: The Podcast, Shivaun and Caroline are discussing this devastating news and the impact it has on all of us. 10.28.21 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: President Joe Biden presents a dramatically scaled-back domestic policy package of $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Plan. We have some economists here to break the numbers down. The Department of Justice will pay the families of nine people murdered in a racist attack at a Black South Carolina church $88 million over a faulty background check that allowed Dylann Roof to purchase the gun he used in the 2015 massacre. Associated Press reporter Meg Kinnard, who's been following this story, will join us to talk about this huge settlement. He spent 45 years in prison for murdering his wife. Today, he was found not guilty of the crime. We'll have the details of an Ohio man who never should have been arrested in the first place. The FDA & the CDC say you can get the Moderna booster if you got the Pfizer vaccine. But is it a good idea? We'll ask a doctor if mixing and matching vaccines make sense. In one year, more than 10 million people encounter a domestic violence situation. We'll talk to one woman who turned her tragedy into triumph and now helps domestic violence survivors get their life back on track. #RolandMartinUnfiltered partners: Nissan | Check out the ALL NEW 2022 Nissan Frontier! A. B. Stoddard is one of the country's sharpest and best informed political commentators. A former congressional reporter and producer of ABC World News Tonight, as well as a current columnist for RealClearPolitics, she has seen politics from the inside and up close since the 1990s. And when she warns that both parties, and the country, are in a dark place as the 2022 and 2024 elections approach, we should listen. In this interview, A. B. Stoddard talks about her experiences as a woman in the male-dominated news business, her view of how Congress has slid into dysfunction in recent decades, and her assessment of how Donald Trump was able to take over the Republican Party and jettison its loyalty to Ronald Reagan and his once-revered brand of conservatism. She analyzes the Democrats' stumbles in their attempts to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework and the Build Back Better Plan, the tensions between the party's moderate and progressive factions, and the breakdown of the Democratic establishment's control over the legislative process. She also speculates about why the Democratic leadership has failed to grapple with the growing threat of election-nullification efforts by state Republican legislatures and the growing potential for political violence in upcoming elections. This week's Open Mic guest is Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member John Boozman. The Arkansas Republican isn't pleased with the process of budget reconciliation for the Build Back Better Plan now before Congress. Boozman questions not only the sum of funds but the lack of detail in how the agriculture dollars will be used. While stepped-up basis may be preserved with the plan in its current form, Boozman says that can quickly change and says lowering the minimum inheritance tax thresholds could have the same detrimental effect on the transfer of farms and small businesses to the next generation. Labor is still a top issue for agriculture, but he's doubtful this Congress will embrace the challenge.
