Bad college football, like that place in Ypsilanti with the ashtray for a football field. It's Short Time Shots. I'm Jason Bryant.Wilmington's program hasn't been back that long, but the Quakers picked up a competitive 27-26 criteria win over Muskingum in what was decided by the FOURTH criteria. Can you name the fourth criteria without looking it up? Most can't, so don't be down on yourself. It's most near fall points. The teams were tied in wins at five, tied in six-point victories with three each and tied with match points at 33 apiece. So it was Wilmington's 10 nearfall points to Muskingum's seven that was the difference. But when I wrote that first line, it got me digging. Coach Chris Basford is in his second year there and he started last season inheriting a roster of four guys. He ended with six. He's got 20 now and trying to create some type of positive culture there.“This was a total team effort. It was a great win for our young program... the first in 6 years. It was priceless to see the faces of the guys getting their first college win to go along with a team win. They did a great job battling and picking each other up,” said Basford. So when was Wilmington's last official dual win? Best I can find using the internet and all its archives - January 5, 2010 … which was a 25-22 win over Baldwin Wallace, which, was NOT good then.Speaking of Baldwin Wallace, they blanked Heidelberg 51-0 and what was dubbed MUSTACHE MANIA! I don't know what Mustache Mania was, but it didn't really matter what it was for Baldwin Wallace as they had four techs and three falls among their bonus victories. The fastest fall came at 197 pounds from Carter Lloyd, who got the match-ender at 1:50. In case you're wondering, Coach Gibbs' Baldwin Wallace team came into the season ranked third.Zac Stray's major decision at heavyweight completed a large comeback by Otterbein as the Cardinals upended Mount Union 20-18. Otterbein was down 15-3 after four bouts and 15-6 halfway through the dual. North Central beat Carthage 44-3.Saint Vincent's return to competition after 50 years away from the sport came up short as Penn State-Behrend bested the Bearcats 26-17 in Latrobe. The first win in the program's revived history came from 133-pounder Ryan Klingensmith out of Kiski Prep. Behrend's Matthew Caldwell's tech fall at 197 sealed it for the Lions - yes, pretty much all of the Penn State branch campuses are Lions or Nittany Lions or Roaring Lions or Tea Sipping Lions or something. In Division II, Coker edged Emmanuel 21-20 in a Conference Carolinas dual, with Coker heavyweight Hamilton Cooper getting an 8-0 major decision at 285 pounds to give Coker the win. But the win actually didn't come on the extra bonus point. Emmanuel was docked a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct, so instead of the major sending the match to criteria, Coker won outright. And here's the gut-punching kicker - Emmanuel would have won on the third criteria, most match points, 48-47. Uffda. Also in the conference, Newberry beat Emory & Henry 51-6. The Wolves picked up five falls in the victory over the Wasps, who are transitioning from Division III to Division II.McKendree beat Kentucky Wesleyan 42-12. Quincy beat NAIA Missouri Baptist 32-20.In the NAIA, St. Ambrose heavyweight Jeremiah Morris picked up a 6-3 win over Sam Fleming lifted the Bees past host Graceland 18-17. On the women's side, North Central's women also beat Carthage, coming away with a 38-3 win in CCIW action. Fastest fall of the night came at 130 pounds where two-time All-American Amani Jones got the touche in 41 seconds. The Cardinals are 8-0 already to start the season. Missouri Baptist's women beat Quincy 30-14.A metric crap ton of news, much more than this, can be delivered to your inbox daily. Just today, there were 58 stories, ranging from these small college results to international news from India, the IOC and high school Hall of Famers and where are they nows. It's time for Short Time Shots, a quick look at the day in college wrestling. The only Division I dual of the night saw the Roger Kish era begin in his home state as the Oklahoma Sooners topped Central Michigan 29-11 in Mount Pleasant. Kish, a four-time state champion from Lapeer West saw a wave of transfers impact the victory, including All-American Stephen Buchanan at 197 pounds. Other new faces to earn wins were Jace Koelzer at 133 pounds, Cael Carlson at 165 pounds and Giuseppe Hoose at 184. The Chippewas did get solid victories from Corbyn Munson at 149, Johnny Lovett at 157 and one of the last of the Monarch Gang, Alex Cramer at 174. In Division II, top-ranked Lander shutout Limestone 48-0 in Greenwood, South Carolina on Thursday. In case you hadn't been paying attention, R.C. LaHaye has assembled a pretty formidable squad with the Lander Bearcats. All-Americans James Joplin, David Hunsberger and Juan Edmond-Holmes. Second-ranked West Liberty was also in action. The Hilltoppers got a scare from Mercyhurst as falls by top-ranked Ty McGeary at 184 and fourth-ranked Francesco Borsellino at 285 pushed West Liberty past the Lakers 24-20 in Erie. The top individual matchup went Mercyhurst's way as sixth-ranked Dillon Walker majored third-ranked and returning All-American Alec Cook 15-3 at 165. Out on the western slope, No. 22 Western Colorado used the third criteria, most match points, to edge No. 18 Nebraska-Kearney 21-20. The Mountaineers were led by returning All-Americans Patrick Allis at 133 pounds and Cole Hernandez at 174. Allis teched Hector Serratos, while Hernandez topped Jacobi Deal 12-6. The Lopers wrestled without all five of their preseason ranked wrestlers and reported the dual on their own website as their B team competing. Welp, it was still on the schedule … Northern State, which is in SOUTH Dakota topped Fort Hays State 35-6. Colorado School of Mines meat-wadded Otero Junior College 56-0. No, that's not a dig on Otero, just a nod to Mines' coach Austin DeVoe. In Division III, Fifth-ranked UW-La Crosse blanked UW-Oshkosh 59-0. The math says six falls, three forfeits and a technical fall. That's former Fargo champ Ben Kawczynski with the tech at 197, by the way. Cornell College dominated NAIA St. Ambrose 45-5. Elmhurst and Coach Steve Marianetti beat Augustana, the one in Illinois, 26-22. The Blue Jays got a win at heavyweight to pull that one out. Tenth-ranked Wabash topped Albion 25-10. All-American Charles Baczek earned a 3-0 victory over Owen McDaniel at 184 pounds. It's the Little Giants first dual win under new head coach Jake Fredericksen, who assumed the role after longtime coach Brian Anderson left for a gig at Indiana University. No. 12 Stevens Institute made the trip to Wisconsin and took down 8th-ranked UW-Eau Claire 19-16 down in La Crosse. This one hand a handful of ranked matchups, highlighted by a pair of All-Americans meeting at 174 pounds. Second-ranked Jared Stricker topped fourth-ranked Stefan Major 10-7 at 174 pounds. At 133, Eau Claire's top-ranked Tyler Fleetwood shutout 12th-ranked Luke Hoerle 5-0 and at 165, 15th-ranked Harrison Hinojosa of Stevens knocked off seventh-ranked Travis Massie 4-1 in sudden victory. In the CCIW, Carthage topped Concordia, the one in Wisconsin, 25-20. In case you're wondering, Carthage is also in Wisconsin. Kenosha to be exact. Seventh-ranked North Central beat Wheaton 47-6 for the program's 40th conference win in a row. In the NAIA, Southeastern, in Florida, picked up a 32-10 victory over the Bobcats of St. Thomas, which is also in Florida. You might remember the logo from that dude's shirt who won Big Brother. You know, the guy who paraded around the house banging pans. Yeah, that guy sucked. As far as people who don't suck, All-Americans Andreus Bond Gabe Jacobs were among the notable winners for the FIRE! FIRE! Speaking of things that are red, the Red Raiders of Northwestern College, the one in Iowa, beat the Beavers of Buena Vista 32-12. Rik Dahl, we say it almost every mention, they're the RED Raiders from Orange City, Iowa. This dual featured FIVE technical falls. I think the kids are liking the new takedown and nearfall rules. Lourdes beat Siena Heights 45-6. Graceland beat St. Mary 25-23. Southeast Community College, which is in Nebraska, beat Northeastern Junior College, which is in Colorado, 39-9 in junior college action. Not too much happening on the women's mats, but Alma College in Michigan hosted its first event as a new women's wrestling program. It didn't go the Scots way as they dropped matches to Northern Michigan 38-5 and Trine 29-20. Northern Michigan beat Trine 34-10. McKendree, ranked third among NCAA women's teams, topped Missouri Baptist, the 10th-ranked NAIA squad, 34-14. McKendree's Shelby Moore topped NAIA All-American Juliana Diaz 8-3 at 123 pounds. Emory & Henry beat Southern Virginia 31-19 and Bluefield State 38-11.

How did wrestling change your life? That’s exactly the question Ryan Warner wants to know and that’s exactly the theme of his podcast, Wrestling Changed My Life. Warner, an Illinois native, started up the podcast a couple years ago and has been prolific with his interviews and his conversational style of podcast. Digging into greats, documentary series on his own and with the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Wrestling Changed My Life has been a fan favorite and it’s only getting better. Check it out at wrestlinghcangedmylife.com. LEADING OFF There is wrestling. This is more than likely a test of how much of a wrestling fan you’re going to make yourself. There is limited action around the country, but the men and women in the NAIA are competing. The NAIA released its first Women’s Coaches Poll of the season on Monday and Wayland Baptist comes in No. 1, ahead of Campbellsville, Grand View, Menlo and Life. Wayland just recently lost its head coach as Aaron Meister left to go back to his native Kansas to start the men’s and women’s program at Friends University in Wichita. Speaking of Life, coach Ashley Sword’s team was in action over the weekend and topped Indiana Tech and the University of the Cumberlands. Indiana Tech was wrestling its first ever women’s dual matches in school history. Life won 39-5 while the University of the Cumberlands edged Indiana tech 25-23. Life beat Brewton-Parker 42-4 on Monday night as well. On the men’s side of things, third-ranked Reinhardt opened up 2-0 after a trip to Florida, beating Keiser 55-0 and fifth-ranked Southeastern 24-19. Southeastern beat Keiser 49-6. Coleman Bryant of Southeastern knocked off Cole Tenety 3-1 in sudden victory at 174 pounds in a matchup of returning All-Americans. Former Indiana Hooser Blake Rypel has resurfaced on the college mats, he’s at Southeastern. He won his debut by fall at 184 for the Fire. Reinhardt did pick up powerful bonus victories from returning All-Americans Trent Leon, Nolan Saxton and Antonio Stewart  to power coach Jeff Bedard’s Eagles. In other action on Monday, Brewton-Parker College beat Central Baptist (Ark.) 53-3, while St. Andrews beat the Central Baptist 42-15. No official score from St. Andrews and Brewton-Parker, but I’m told it was 43-9 in favor of Brewton-Parker. Not the first time I’ve had to chase down the opposing team looking for a score from a wrestling event held at BPC, but I digress. Here’s what went down since the last time I gave a scoreboard update: Jamestown (N.D.) beat Northwestern (Iowa) 24-22. Arizona Christian beat Hastings 28-15 No. 7 Indiana Tech beat Thomas More 26-21 No. 4 Lindsey Wilson got a pair of big W’s, shutting out Missouri Baptist 55-0 and beating Williams Baptist 46-3. Williams Baptist beat Missouri Baptist 42-12 in the other dual there. Earlier in the week, Benedictine (Kan.) beat Central Methodist 27-18, while Ottawa (Kan.) beat Oklahoma Wesleyan 43-12. New coaching alert in Division II where Ohio State alum Colt Sponseller is now the new head coach at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio. Josh Hutchens stepped down back in September. … while NCAA qualifier Michael Blockhus will land at Minnesota after announcing he was leaving Northern Iowa a few days ago. Short Time Shots: Duals, Duals, Duals (01-13-20)

It’s late on the East Coast, semi late here in Minnesota and the College Football Playoff game is still going on as I sit down and blast out this episode. This is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more from in and around the sport of wrestling, I’m Jason Bryant, and since there were no scores tonight, the show is about the “more,” today. Back home from Virginia and the 40th annual Virginia Duals. I’ve been to 24 and that tournament holds a special place in my heart. One of the more heart-wrenching moments came in the ODU-Virginia dual where Killian Cardinale, the starter for ODU, which as you know, is my alma mater, wrestled Patrick McCormick, a four-time state champion from my hometown of Poquoson and the son of one of my good friends, NCAA wrestling official Mike McCormick. I once had a similar instance where Bryan LaShomb of ODU wrestled Anthony Burke of UVA in a dual meet. That time, I was announcing. Burke was in my sister’s graduating class back in 2004, and I’d known him since he was in middle school. With Patch, who I gave a little local shout out to at the Midlands, I’d known him since birth. It’s one of those cool things that when you go to the Virginia Duals and see that type of matchup with both ODU and UVA coming from where they were about 15 years ago, it’s cool. Almost all those Virginia college teams are better than they were 15 years ago. Obviously Virginia Tech has carried the flag and George Mason will be improving under Frank Beasley. Now the Commonwealth added two Division III schools last week with Roanoke College and Emory & Henry. Let’s hope we aren’t adding too many teams, too fast, though. Strategery, right?  In Duals: In case you missed it, we had a number of dual events that went on this past weekend. In Williamsport, Pennsylvania, The College of New Jersey won the 20th annual Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College. In Hampton, Virginia, Rider won the National College Division, beating No. 22 Virginia, while Division II Kutztown downed Division III Ferrum in the finals for the second straight year.  In Louisville, at the 2020 U.S. Marine Corps NWCA Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships presented by ARMS Software and Defense Soap hosted by NUWAY … St. Cloud State, Wartburg, Grand View, Nassau, McKendree and Menlo were all winners in their respective divisions. St. Cloud State extended its D2 win streak to 58 and won its fourth in a row. Wartburg won its 12th overall title and beat three national champions in their win over Augsburg in the final in Division III. Grand View’s win streak is now 85 after they lost three individual bouts in four duals to capture a ninth-straight title. The NJCAA featured eight non-scholarship teams, which was won by Nassau. It was Nassau’s third title but first since 2005. The women’s division split this year into NCAA and NAIA divisions. McKendree beat Simon Fraser on criteria in the NCAA Division, while Menlo beat Campbellsville to win the NAIA crown. By the way, while Sara Koenig, one of the tournament directors for the Super 32 awesomely pointed out the last time UNC women’s field hockey lost in response to TV pimping Clemson’s 742 days without a loss. Well, the Heels last lost 787 days ago. St. Cloud State last lost 1,094 days ago and Grand View’s last loss was 2,258 days ago.  You noticed I said non-scholarship with the NJCAA portion of the National Duals. You’d be quite punctilious in assuming that, well in Miami, Oklahoma, Clackamas won the NJCAA Coaches Duals by beating Iowa Western 38-15 in the finals. This was basically a national duals for the scholarship division. Clackamas beat Iowa Lakes, top-ranked but fourth-seeded Western Wyoming, Colby and Iowa Western on the weekend. Iowa Central beat host Northeastern Oklahoma A&M for third.  Notables on the Docket: Division II Ohio Valley is at Division III Muskingum, while we’ve got another split dual as Division III Muhlenberg will face Division II East Stroudsburg.  An allotment of matches involving NAIA schools on Tuesday. Central Baptist will head to Calumet College of St. Joseph – that’s in Indiana if you’re wondering – Ancilla of the NJCAA will also join the fun. Thomas More is at Midway, Lincoln continues its maiden voyage into the NAIA with a dual at Missouri Baptist. Fact: Missouri Baptist head coach Brian Jackson was a three-time All-American in three different divisions. Bluefield wrestles Southwest Virginia in Richlands, Virginia, while Benedictine (Kan.) will take on William Penn. NAIA Central Christian will face Cloud County in Concordia, Kansas.  And that’s all I’ve got at the time being. Coker and Newberry were postponed until next month.  FROM THE DWN: I brought my newspaper background into wrestling more than 20 years ago. One of those things I used to feature back on InterMat was the weekly “How the Top 25 fared.” It was something that ran on the agate wire on Sunday nights for the Monday paper and the Top 25 AP poll release. I just brought it back, mainly as an aide for the coaches poll. Figured if I’m doing it, I might has well post it.  Despite Duke’s tough season thus far, there is at least some news coming out of Durham. Former wrestling SID Meredeith Rieder features Mason Eaglin, a freshman from Port Orchard, Washington – the same hometown as three-time All-American Conner Hartmann. With five of the six ACC teams ranked, maybe Duke can finally reward its wrestlers with some scholarship opportunities. Minnesota recaps the return of The Beast Brock Lesnar. The past NCAA champion returned to Minneapolis on Friday as part of the 20th anniversary of his individual title. The Gophers beat Wisconsin, who would later beat Nebraska. USA Wrestling announced it would be holding wrestle-offs for the Pan American Olympic qualifiers in women’s freestyle during the WCWA championships next month in Georgia – the state, not the country. Now this is what’s going to make things interesting – when will they announce the wrestle-offs for the other styles. And yes, you know I mean men’s freestyle. Credit on that to Bloodround.  Campbell’s Jason Williams, a vet in the world of Sports Information, writes up a pretty solid feature on the Camels’ 2-1 weekend in Arizona in a quad at Chase Field in Phoenix. The Camel that is Campbell’s mascot is named Gaylord – after famous alum Gaylord Perry. Among the stories from the local news, I’ll key in on The Winchester Star’s feature of Sherando High School senior Colton Foltz. Same high school as Virginia Tech heavyweight John Borst, which is cool. Coached by Brian Kibler, who wrestled at Strasburg, which according to Earl Smith of The Open Mat, isn’t cool. Let’s remember, Earl went to Manassas Park. Yes, let the hate flow! Anyway, little local Q&A.  On The Network The newest show to the network, Forward, has been released. This is with Wisconsin Wrestling Federation state coach Scott Kluever  and River Falls High School head coach and longtime women’s wrestling coach Kevin Black. Time to get back in the ring, to take another swing. The walls were shaking, the earth was quaking, my mind was aching - you know what, I saw AC/DC live back in 2016, you don’t need to relive that show, although it was super awesome. I’d previous had tickets to see them in high school, in September of 1996. That tour got canceled before it got to Hampton. So there I was, 20 years later, with my pregnant wife on Valentine’s Day rocking out to AC/DC. What’s that have to do with wrestling? Nothing really, other than AC/DC is a favorite on wrestling playlists worldwide. I’m Jason Bryant, and this is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more in and around the sport of wrestling. By the way, if you notice the episode numbers changing, that’s because I did an audit of the amount of Short Time episodes in the feed. The most recent show where I interviewed some folks in Little Rock was actually the 580th episode. At some point, I didn’t count things and had some other non-Short Time shows in the feed. That’s been fixed and sure enough, this is the 581st edition of Short Time, whether it be in the Shots form or my more formal feature story/interview format. I also went to the Richard Nixon School of Accounting. Most of you won’t get that joke. Minnesota Beer of the Night: Bite Size by Modist Brewing. It’s classified as a Pastry Stout, with some evil chattering teeth on the can. It checks in at 6.7% and it’s pretty good for the first major snowfall expected to hit the land of New Brighton by the time you listen to it. Remember, I’m on Untappd at jasonbryant12. By the way, the Modist taproom is about a mile and a half from U.S. Bank Stadium. Dual Meets:  It was a close one down south in Division II where a fall from Jonathan Miller at 141 pounds was the difference as No. 21 UNC Pembroke edged No. 17 Limestone 20-19 in Pembroke on Tuesday. All-American Nick Daggett also scored a key bonus victory for the Braves at 125 pounds. Lindsey Wilson, ranked third in the NAIA, won nine out of 10 bouts and scored six falls as the Blue Raiders trounced Division II Bellarmine 47-3 in Columbia. Returning national champion Brandon Reed picked up his fall at 1:10 at heavyweight. Grand View, the top-ranked team in the NAIA, ran its dual meet win streak to 80 in a row after blanking Benedictine (Kansas) 50-0. During that stretch, Grand View has outscored opponents by an average score of 42.3 to 4.95. There’s also been 27 shutouts. The Vikings have won 108 of their last 109 duals with the last loss coming in November of 2013 to Division I Iowa State. Keeping it in the NAIA, fifth-ranked Campbellsville won a pair of duals at home on Tuesday. First the Tigers topped the Phoenix of Cumberland University (Tenn.) 34-6 before dispatching with West Virginia Tech 59-0, yes, one away from a perfect score. Cumberland beat West Virginia Tech 48-6. Marian beat Missouri Baptist 43-6. In Division III, fifth-ranked Augsburg was aided by five forfeits in shutting out St. Olaf 57-0 at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis. Guess what, the office of St. Olaf College President David “The Duck” Anderson has ignored two more requests for interviews after feeding the Board of Regents and alumni a load of scat, no matter which animal it originates. Notables on the Docket: There’s nothing on the schedule until after Thanksgiving, with action firing up on Saturday with Northern Colorado at Fresno State. On Sunday, we see several notables, including Cornell heading to Ohio State, Wisconsin going to Carver-Hawkeye, Appalachian State facing North Carolina, Augustana (S.D.) facing North Dakota State, and Ohio facing Chattanooga. FROM THE DWN: There’s a new No. 1 in the NWCA Division I Coaches Poll as Iowa moves into the top spot for the first time since February of 2015. Penn State, the previous No. 1 for the last 36 polls, fell to No. 3 after the Nittany Lions saw their 60 match win streak stopped by Arizona State. The Sun Devils slid up six spots to No. 4, one spot behind the team they just beat. Hey, sports. Other notables saw Nebraska move to No. 2, tying its best rank in school history, Princeton moved to No. 12, its highest ever and Army West Point moved to No. 21, its highest ranking since 1994. Kurt Cobain was still alive the last time the Black Knights were this high. With two top-five victories in a matter of hours, NC State redshirt freshman Trent Hidlay was named ACC Wrestler of the Week. Meanwhile, David Carr’s win over Kaleb Young earned him Big 12 WOW honors. I’m not sure if “WOW” is said as such, other than in SID headlines, but ok. Trent Hillger, aka THOR, hammered down (dad jokes) the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week after pinning Utah Valley’s Tate Orndorff in overtime. Speaking of the Big 12, tickets for the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa at the BOK Center - that’s the Bank of Oklahoma and not the vegetable popular in some Asian foods - are on sale. TheMat.com tells us the 24 wrestlers who will head to Sweden to compete at the Haparanda Cup this coming weekend. The list is highlighted by world teamers Max Nowry, Ryan Mango, Raymond Bunker, and John Stefanowicz. How’s the Turkey in Sweden, boys? Up in New York,WKBW reports the doctor related to the school system that initially denied the request of a 12-year-old seventh grader to compete on the JV wrestling team saw his association with said system end late last week. Through a statement, Michael Terranova has replied to the situation, however, while citing standards, that reportedly weren’t applied uniformly, the statement made no mention of his hand-written note that said “girls don’t play boys sports in Lancaster schools.” Yo man, double standards. It should be noted that New York does allow seventh and eighth graders to compete in varsity wrestling. Trista Blasz’s story has gained national attention. More on the girls wrestling front sees MontanaSports.com reporting that the Montana High School Association will submit a proposal to add girls wrestling as a sanctioned sport. That vote will come in January. Right now, 18 states sanction or will sanction girls wrestling in the 2020-21 school year. Notably absent - Pennsylvania. Internationally, The Times of India notes world medalist Vinesh Phoghat and Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik are notables set to compete at the Indian national championships. The news of a possible Russian ban at the upcoming Olympic competitions has officials in the Russian Federation annoyed, to say the least. Russian wrestling federation head Mikhail Mamiashvili spoke out against the potential ban in international news services, citing instances in the past where athletes were punished unjustly for “the sins of the father.” Ok then. In keeping it international, the President of Iran’s National Olympic Committee responded to United World Wrestling’s postponement of the Greco-Roman World Cup. UWW issued a statement on Sunday saying the postponement was in response to current instability in Iran. Tuesday, the Mehr News Agency noted Reza Salehi said UWW’s decision was “hasty, sensational and under the influence of incorrect propaganda by western states against Iran.” Cody Goodwin of the Des Moines Register opens up the wrestling mailbag in the wake of the Iowa-Iowa State dual which drew over 11,000 fans to Hilton Coliseum. Sad news came in late Monday as it was learned the Brian Keck, a former NJCAA national champion and longtime wrestler on the senior level, had died. The details around the situation are still slim, but Keck was one of a kind. If you didn’t know him, he looked mean and intimidating. If you wrestled him, you’d probably understand that to be somewhat true. Brian was a jovial, big-hearted guy with a very unique past and one where wrestling played a big role in changing the course of what he’d do with his life. He dabbled in professional wrestling, coached MMA fighters, ran youth tournaments and was just generally someone who liked to do right by people. Personally, Keck had been a friend since probably 2005. We’d roomed together in Fargo, I announced tournaments for him, most recently at the Preseason Nationals last month. A funny guy who was labeled “No Neck Keck,” he was one of those people that had a story - and everyone who knew him - had a story that involved him in some way, shape or form. Last month in Des Moines, he bought a bunch of tickets to the Carrie Underwood concert next door from the venue where the Preseason Nationals were held - at the Wells Fargo Arena. He wasn’t comped those tickets - he bought them

Holy crap it’s cold. Like I know I live in Minnesota, but it’s November 12 and the daytime high wasn’t the issue, it was the five degrees this morning while getting the kids ready for school. I chatted with ODU wrestling coach Steve Martin this morning. The first thing he asked me was how the weather was. After an expletive-laced retort, I finally answered with the current state of the atmospheric conditions. You can get that update every day on my personal Twitter account at 9:30 a.m. Central Time. I moved to Minnesota for a job. I left Minnesota for a job. I came back to Minnesota due to the proximity of my wife’s family and the abundance of good wrestling in the midwest. It’s easier to do what I do from here than say, my hometown. This is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more from the world of wrestling. I’m Jason Bryant.   Dual Meets: Falls were the difference as Graceland earned the big six from Trey Heckadon, Brennan Swafford and Drew Sams to lift the Yellowjackets to a 24-18 win over Division III Simpson College on Tuesday.  Missouri Baptist opened up the season with a 30-18 win over American Midwest rival Hannibal-LaGrange. Jordan Sanders and Quentin Lawrence with falls there for the Spartans. They’ve got spirit.  Montana State-Northern got its first dual win of the season as longtime rival and current Cascade Conference foe Southern Oregon came to town and went home unhappy. Returning national finalist Isaac Bartel registered a fall in 90 seconds at 197 pounds to highlight the Lights victory - yes, they’re the LIGHTS. Get it, Northern … Lights.  I can’t seem to find any release or note, but apparently William Penn beat Waldorf by forfeit. Ok then.  The top-ranked team in the NAIA women’s division, Life University, knocked off Limestone 36-10 in that school’s first ever home dual. Alex Enriquez, Aysia Cortez and Gabby Hamilton secured falls for the Running Eagles. Yes, the RUNNING Eagles.  PROMO CODE WARNING There are approximately 63 active wrestling podcasts out there, with 20 of them on the Mat Talk Podcast Network. A pair of duals in Ohio as Wilmington and Heidelberg will mix it up - YES, the STUDENT PRINCES of Heidelberg - and Thomas More, which went back to the NAIA this year, will face Ohio Wesleyan. In Sconny, that’s Wisconsin for the rest of yous, UW-Oskhosh will face off with UW-Eau Claire. Also in Wisconsin, a double header of men’s and women’s wrestling where Lakeland will face off with the first-year program at UW-Stevens Point before the men take to the mat and get reacquainted.  FROM THE DWN: The first 23 teams in the NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll remained the same this week. Penn State, which won its 60th dual in a row, was No. 1 for the 34th straight week, while Army West Point entered the poll at No. 24, and Campbell and Purdue entered the poll, tied at No. 25. I’m not going to try to pronounce. Sure, Hyrshchanka, I can say that, but Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone, not so easily. Georgia’s Iakobi Kajaia is now the European Games gold medalist.  The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports a former Xavier High School wrestler and current University of Iowa student died on Monday according to an email distributed by the UI campus community. Jeff Vipond was a two-year captain of the Cedar Rapids Xavier High wrestling team.  College journalism might be struggling some places, but at the University of Pennsylvania, it looks pretty fair to me, at least, from a wrestling standpoint. The Daily Pennsylvanian features freshman Michael Colaiocco, who’s already making an impact in Philly. The Knight Report, a Rivals-based Rutgers news site has posted that Peter Lipari, a 141-pound NCAA qualifier for the Scarlet Knights last season, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He recently lost his wrestle-off to highly touted freshman JoJo Aragona. The report doesn’t go into much detail other than he’s in the portal.  On The Network Chad Dennis brings Alex Meyer back on The MatBoss Podcast to talk about the upcoming Chattanooga vs. Iowa dual at Carver-Hawkeye and a number of things about the Hawkeye program from Meyer’s perspective as an alum.  You can get to read those stories and more from Mat Talk Online’s daily wrestling newsletter. November 11 is a day that’s extremely memorable for me and the career path I chose. You see, 11 years ago, Kyle Klingman and I kicked off our very first podcast, Wrestling 411. By the way, I’m Jason Bryant, and this is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more from around the world of wrestling. So back to the story - It was a J Robinson idea housed within a brand called Media Sports Productions, the acronym befitting its home base, Minneapolis. This was the gig I left Pennsylvania for. J Rob and Wade Schalles, wooed me over the phone from my newly purchased row home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I saw the pay increase, the chance to continue to further my goals in broadcasting and a chance to get a fresh start in a new area. Wade left shortly after Kyle arrived from Iowa and me from Pennsylvania. Ultimately, we got left holding the bag with little of the start-up money to work with and Kyle and I limped through a very tough year, one that put both of us at odds with one another and put both of our futures in the sport in doubt. Kyle and I talked about this a year ago, when we hit the 10-year anniversary of our foray into podcasting and failed television production. Our first guest was Tom Brands. The audio was terrible, our rapport wasn’t there and it might have been one of the worst shows either of us ever did. Even though I linked it here, don’t listen. We sat at Augsburg’s KAUG radio studios - Kyle knew this was doomed from the start. I thought so to, only I held on to the illusion that we could actually pull this off. Well, we didn’t and 11 years later, here we are, and here you are. That was the second known wrestling podcast, Mat Slammers in Iowa was the first and there was a short-lived show up in Canada for a while too. All that being said, 11 years gone and a lot of things changed for the better out of that experience. I’ve distributed, produced and hosted over 2,400 podcast episodes in that time and I’ve done 1,308 of those myself. Uffda. Now, before I get to the news, this important note from my man Andy Voit. No, he didn’t pay me to say his name on the show.  Dual Meets:  Nothing doing. Tournaments:  Nothing doing. PROMO CODE WARNING There are approximately 63 active wrestling podcasts out there, with 20 of them on the Mat Talk Podcast Network. I get asked all the time about what people need to start a podcast. Go to www.takedowncancer.org for information or contact Mark Neu at mneu@shakopee.k12.mn.usLet’s TakeDown Cancer! - No one fights alone! Notables on the Docket for November 12: A handful of duals in the NAIA, Missouri Baptist heads to Hannibal-LaGrange, down in Iowa, it’s Waldorf facing William Penn and out west, Southern Oregon travels to Havre, Montana to face Montana State-Northern. Why isn’t it Favre? Whatever. Montana got this one right.   Mixed divisional matchups see NAIA Graceland heads up to Pella, Iowa to take on Division III Simpson and NAIA Warner Pacific take on Grays Harbor, a varsity program that competes in the NCWA. The women’s teams at those schools will also face off with one another. Keeping it on the women’s side, Life will head to Gaffney, South Carolina to face the first-year women’s team at Limestone.  FROM THE DWN: Brian Reinhardt from NC State features top-ranked Hayden Hidlay on the NC State athletics website, GoPack.com. Reinhardt also hosts the #PackMentality Pop-Ins Podcast here on the network.  Tim Hands at FivePointMove.com breaks from his traditional U.S.-based Greco-Roman coverage to do an interview with Egypt’s Mohamed El Sayed, who recently won two world championships in the span of a month - actually shorter.  IAwrestle.com does a quick recap of things Iowa State had answered at their annual Cyclone Open. Jake Torkelson with the words there.  Shannon Scovel of NCAA.com does the same, only she focuses on the top-ranked team in the land, the Penn State Nittany Lions.  On Veterans Day, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame outlines the long history the sport’s had with our nation’s armed forces.  Tom Housenick of the Allentown Morning Call writes a stellar feature on a family of wrestlers from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and the struggle the girls had to try to find other girls to wrestle. While the Bibeau kids all love the sport, the girls picked it up as their dad taught their brother. Now the oldest, sister, Avia, will head to East Stroudsburg University next year to wrestle, but still struggles to try to get girls in her own high school to wrestle, because there’s no PIAA sanctioned girls wrestling and if they come out for the first time, they’re still wrestling the boys.  More from the world of girls wrestling, Fox 6 in Milwaukee notes the sport is one of the fastest growing in the country, especially the Midwest. The story features girls of all ages and their love for wrestling. Now, one thing I want to make very clear - do you see all the news coverage that girls wrestling is getting? This is a positive for our sport. It’s showing the sport is truly accepting of all shapes, sizes, colors and genders. To that portion of the population who wants to berate 17-year-old girls for the poor administrative decision of athletic departments 25 years ago, move on. It’s not these girls fault we didn’t let them compete 30 years ago. End rant.  MMA journalist Damon Martin tweeted last night that three-time NCAA champion Bo Nickal of Penn State had signed with First Round Management, indicating Bo’s drive to compete in MMA after a run at 2020. The tweet was attributed to First Round Management’s Malki Kawa.  Ommcom News reports the region of India known as Odisha, on the Bay of Bengal, is in line to host the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships. India has a huge wrestling following and the metrics discussed by United World Wrestling on the YouTube videos verify that claim. Their news isn’t always on point, but they do churn out a lot of it. This is probably legit.  In lieu of talking about every single wrestler of the week award, rest assured the ones I find, will be in the newsletter, I just don’t want to dedicate the entire section of what’s in the Daily Wrestling Newsletter to WOWs, even though … wait for it … they may have WOWed us this week. One worth noting is TheOpenMat.com named Tate Orndorff its Wrestler of the Week. That one deserves a mention. He beat a pair of All-Americans in Tanner Hall of Arizona State and Jordan Wood of Lehigh on Sunday. He good.  On The Network Kyle Klingman and Andy Hamilton of Trackwrestling.com return with another episode of On The Mat. Their guest this week is Gary Abbott, the longtime Director of Communications at USA Wrestling. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame recently announced Gary would be part of its 2020 induction class, earning the Order of Merit for his years of service.  You can get to read those stories and more from Mat Talk Online’s daily wrestling newsletter. Tonight, we'll take you to the Temple of Boom as I spent the time setting up this show listening to the mashup between Cypress Hill, Rage Against The Machine and Public Enemy -- they're the Prophets of Rage and it's just enough of a taste of all three groups to give you that angsty fight the man feeling from the late 90s. This is Short Time Shots, a look back at the day's scores and more for February 10, 2018, I'm your host, Hall of Fame wrestling writer, broadcaster and announcer Jason Bryant and I actually saw Rage perform live back in August of 1997. We can tell you that the women's team at Campbellsville will be going down Rodeo after capturing the school's first ever Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association national championship on Saturday at Oklahoma City University. Powered by champions Grace Bullen and Kayla Miracle, the Lady Tigers took things down to the wire to rip the championship away from Simon Fraser in the event's final match. The stage was set for some drama as the finals round started at 143 pounds and would end with 136, where Miracle would wait to see if she could make history. More on that in a bit. Simon Fraser earned titles at 143 with U.S. World Teamer Mallory Velte winning her third WCWA title with a dominant win over Junior World bronze medalist Alexis Porter of McKendree. Brittany Marshall would Fight the Power and give Wayland Baptist a title with a 6-5 victory at 170 over Campbellsville's Mariah Harris. Marshall scored two as time expired to cap an exciting bout. Simon Fraser would overtake Campbellsville with back-to-back titles at 116 and 123. At 116, Abby Lloyd capped her career winning her first WCWA title after finishing second the previous two years. At 123, Dominique Parrish topped unseeded teammate Alex Hedrick 5-4 to claim gold. With two weights left, Campbellsville and Simon Fraser would meet up at 130 with SFU holding a seven point lead. The lead would shrink to one as freshman Grace Bullen, a Norwegian import, laid down another bombtrack pinning Nicole Depa in 2:17 seconds. Miracle would then step to the mat, with her chance at four titles and the team title on the line. She gave up the first takedown to Grays Harbor's Desiree Zavala, but then used a leg turk to arch Zavala over for the fall. MIC. DROP. CHAMPIONSHIP. Lights out. Guerilla Radio. Miracle joins exclusive company, joining Oklahoma City's Emily Webster and Simon Fraser's Victoria Anthony and Helen Maroulis as four-time WCWA champs. Maroulis actually won her first title at Missouri Baptist. There were also a number of emotional moments, including Kaitlyn Hill finally earning All-American honors for the first time and then promptly getting hit with a marriage proposal. Get the tissues folks. It's one of those moments that you just can't put into words. Marina Doi's shot for a third individual championship came to an end, as her twin sister Regina would claim the title at 101 poun ds. But the California wonder twins also made this moment distinctly theirs. You see, Marina had previous won two titles but the sisters had a goal to meet each other in the finals when they decided to attend King. That happened this year and Marina forfeited to her sister, giving Regina her first title. The pair then placed their shoes on the mat, signifying their retirement from wrestling. Emmanuel's Cody Pfau would Take the Power Back, winning her third title and first for her new school. She'd previous won two titles at Oklahoma City. Lindenwood-Belleville's Niauni Hill finished an undefeated season with a title at 155 pounds. Paige Baynes of Grays Harbor would be the OW, earning the title at 191 pounds. She teched all four opponents in a combined 3:32. Moving over to the men's side of things, there was enough to talk about at an indoor record crowd of 15,998 saw No. 1 Penn State top No. 7 Iowa 28-13 at a sold-out Bryce Jordan Center. The most notable win of the dual came in Iowa's favor, as it was Bulls on Parade -- or just BULL as Alex Marinelli defended a Vincenzo Joseph inside trip attempt and body-locked the returning NCAA champion to his back for a six-point sequence leading to Marinell's win at 165. Marinelli is still unbeaten as a freshman. It gave Iowa a shred of life -- that is until Mark Hall and Bo Nicka l scored back-to-back falls in a minute or less to slam the door on any Hawkeye comeback hopes. Nick Nevills topped Sam Stoll at heavyweight, while Zain Retherford controlled Brandon Sorensen at 149 pounds. No. 10 Cornell beat Penn 33-9 and Princeton 34-6 to claim yet another regular season Ivy League championship. One notable came against Princeton where super freshman Ben Darmstadt rallied in the third period to beat Princeton's Pat Brucki. Darmstadt trailed by two before getting a reversal, a penalty point for stalling and two nearfall to earn a 9-6 victory. No. 13 Northern Iowa packed West Gym to the rafters and beat Iowa State 31-7 in the first meeting between the two teams as members of the Big 12. UNI joined the conference this season as an affiliate member after spending the last five years in the MAC. Also around DI, Oklahoma beat Edinboro 19-16, Penn topped Columbia 21-18 and Stanford beat Oregon State 22-15. Amar Dhesi with an 8-5 win over Nathan Butler at heavyweight there. Davidson won its second dual in a row, beating Division II Belmont Abbey 25-16. In Division III, there were a host of conference tournaments before we get to the regional qualifying weekend coming up, but there are two notables I want to throw out here. The first comes from the Rochester Institute of Technology, or RIT where freshman Kaidon Winters broke Matt Hamill's single season school record for falls. YES, THAT Matt Hamill, the guy who won three Division III titles for the Tigers and the deaf guy who fought in the UFC and is in the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for the medal of courage. Kaidon Winters, bravo young man. He's 35-8 this year. The other milestone goes to NYU's Raymond Jazikoff. He won two matches at the UAA championships, which is just a tri-meet between the University of Chicago, Case Western Reserve and NYU. Jazikoff's two wins put him at 142 for his career, setting a new school record with still a few weeks left in the season. Jazikoff is 41-5 this year for coach Bruce Haberli's Bobcats. So I'm a craft beer guy. I wasn't always a craft beer guy. It took me to move to Pennsyvlania at age 25 to realize that there were good beers out there that weren't named Natural, Beast or Bud. But I also have a very diverse palate when it comes to the types of beers I drink. In my older age, I've learned to drink for flavor not to drink to figure out how many beers we can get for $20 at the local Farm Fresh or Food Lion -- yes, in Virginia, you could buy cheap swill at the grocery store. Thankfully by the time I was actually 21, Yuengling Lager had made its way down to Virginia. You know what the difference between a pint of Lager in Pennsylvania and a pint of Lager in Virginia is? About four bucks. Anyway, you're not here to hear me talk about my beer fridge - or maybe you are - but this is Short Time Shots, a look back at the day's scores and more in the world of college wrestling from January 25, 2018, I'm your media guide slinging, craft beer enjoying Hall of Fame wrestling announcer, writer and broadcaster Jason Bryant. But before I get to the scores, I want to call out my buddies over at the Bloodround Podcast, which is pretty much the antithesis of anything you'll find on the Mat Talk Podcast Network. They're close to Bell's Brewing out there in Michigan. I picked up a six pack today of a limited seasonal they put out called Hopslam. I'm not by any means an IPA guy. I typically don't like drinking a pine cone. But I also like rarities, so I'll give it a shot. The promotional video says … you know what. I'm just going to let you hear it in their own words … I'm very afraid. Now, FINALLY to wrestling, there were two Division I duals and both were in the Southern Conference. Appalachian State remained unbeaten in the SoCon with an 18-12 win over Campbell in a match that was rescheduled from some snow that hit the Southeast a week or so ago. Key victories there for the Mountaineers were by 174-pounder Forrest Przybysz who beat Andrew Morgan 13-11 and Codi Russell, who beat Nathan Boston in sudden victory at 133 pounds. Gavin Londoff's win at 149 over Zach Barnes was the match-clincher for JohnMark Bentley's squad. VMI, which has been struggling quite a bit in recent memory, picked up its first win over The Citadel in 11 years. The Keydets picked up falls from Blake Hohman and Gage Levine to help push past the Bulldogs 24-21 in a battle of bonus points. Hohman and 133-pound winner Hunter Starner are from my home district, so shout out to Mike Faus' New Kent Trojans and Doug Roper's Tabb Tigers -- they helped a D1 team get a W tonight. In Division II, St. Cloud State improved to 15-0 and extended its win streak to 24 in a row with a 42-3 win over Northern State. The jaw-dropper was at 157 where Tanner Olson, who was just 2-3 on the season coming in, beat No. 1-ranked Larry Bomstad of St. Cloud State 3-1. To try to put that in perspective -- it's like a guy from say, Cleveland State beating Bryce Meredith or something like that. No, Bomstad isn't a national champion, but he's been an All-American. So tip of the cap to the Wolves' Tanner Olsen. You know what, this isn't intentional, but Olsen … is from Wyoming. Keeping with the Northern Sun, Augustana - the one in South Dakota - upended Minnesota State 17-13, while Upper Iowa topped Southwest Minnesota State 25-13. Out west in Division II, Colorado School of Mines, yes, we've been over this, they're the Orediggers, well, they beat New Mexico Highlands 22-18. That action taking place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Also out there, Cal Baptist topped Colorado Mesa 36-9. This is the last year Cal Baptist is eligible to compete in Division II. The school announced it was moving to Division I last year. In Division III, fifth-ranked Loras tied a school record with its 16th dual meet win of the season. The Duhawks are 16-0 and topped Cornell College 27-9. Things weren't all sunshine and Tony Ramos for Loras as second-ranked Jimmy Davis was upended by Cornell's Phillip Opelt at 149 pounds. Both are returning All-Americans, but Opelt scored two and two late to pick up the win. Oneonta State beat King's College - that's KING'S with an apostrophe and an S, not King, 49-3. King's College is on just its second coach in school history. Previous coach Ned McGinley stepped down after last season after coaching at the Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania school for nearly 50 years. Gettysburg beat McDaniel 30-7 in Centennial Conference action. Tip of the cap to Andy Vogel, who also runs D3wrestle.com. In the NAIA, Southeastern beat Campbellsville 21-18 in a Mid-South Conference matchup, while Wayland Baptist beat Missouri Baptist and I'm going to assume they also beat Bacone, but since neither school had reported their scores by MIDNIGHT, I can't really report the men's side of things. Wayland Baptist's women DID officially beat both Missouri Baptist and Bacone in a double triple event in Muskogee. It was two tri meets held simultaneously in men's and women's wrestling. One JUCO score to pass along, North Idaho topped Division II Simon Fraser 31-15. One of the giant indoor playgrounds reopened tonight. You want to know stress? Take a couple hundred kids under the age of 6 and cramp them all into an indoor playground and watch your blood pressure rise. This is Short Time Shots, a quick look back at the day’s wrestling scores and more, I’m your host, Hall of Fame wrestling writer, broadcaster and announcer Jason Bryant. While this isn’t an every day show, it typically breaks when there’s at least 10 dual meets or events that are worth discussing. That’s just kind of a loose guide. Some days, there might be 3-4 really good ones I want to give you the scoop on. Others, there are a few matches or the results from some of them weren’t reported by the time I sat down and hit record. Before we start, want to thank the latest contributor to the Mat Talk Podcast Network, Ralph Wetzel from Pennsylvania. Thank you kindly sir. You are entered into the drawing for the $150 prize pack from Compound Clothing. Before we get to the scores, the big news today was Presbyterian College, a small Division I school in Clinton, South Carolina is adding a men’s and women’s wrestling program. I had a chance to talk to AD Danny Sterling today for about 40 minutes to talk about the additions and that will be on the next full Short Time Wrestling Podcast on Monday. Presbyterian had a team in the 1940s and 50s. The last team in Division I that started from scratch and wasn’t a quick reinstatement? Utah Valley in 2003. Kind of hard to call Presbyterian a “reinstatement” since they haven’t had a team since Truman. Only one Division I dual on the docket on Thursday and it wasn’t close as No. 19 Wisconsin opened up its Big Ten schedule by smashing Maryland 32-6 in Madison. Big one for the Badgers came at 141 pounds where Eli Stickley majored NCAA qualifier Ryan Diehl of Maryland 14-1. Maryland heavyweight Youssif Hemida was sharp in helping the Terrapins avoid the shutout with a first-period fall over Ben Stone. That dual was live on BTN, so go ahead and check out the Badgers who earned major decisions from Andrew Crone at 157, Evan Wick at 165, Ryan Christensen at 174 and Hunter Ritter at 197 pounds. In blustery Minneapolis where the match time temperature at Si Melby Hall was 18 degrees. This one was a romp for Augsburg, which came in ranked second in Division III. The Division II Dragons made it a match early, trailing 16-9 after five bouts but the Auggies rolled in the final five weights with four bonus victories including Lucas Jeske’s 13-5 win over Weston Dobler. No. 8 Loras, which is fresh off its win over Augsburg over the weekend, rolled past No. 18 Augustana -- yup, the Illinois one, 32-9 in Rock Island. Second-ranked Jimmy Davis earned a technical fall at 149 pounds, while we had a nationally-ranked battle at 285 as top-ranked All-American Adarios Jones of Augustana knocked off sixth-ranked Quin Gilliam 2-1. These rankings from the NWCA Division III Coaches Association. Our man Andy Vogel at D3wrestle.com has more rankings over there. Eric Van Kley’s Central Dutch -- again, fitting a school named the Dutch is coached by a guy with a Dutch name -- topped the Prairie Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan 42-3. The Prairie Wolves are a second-year program in Lincoln, Nebraska coached by Virginia native Brandon Bradley. He went to Henrico. Ty Owens coached right there. Central improved to 2-1 on the year and picked up falls from Cam Timok, Tristan Clark, Lane Rumelhart and Daniel “not Harry Potter” Radcliffe. As my wife’s family says, if you ain’t Dutch, you ain’t much. In a battle of New York teams, Don Murray’s College at Brockport Golden Eagles -- hey I wore their hat today as a matter of fact -- topped Rochester Institute of Technology, or RIT 35-12. Top-ranked 125 pounder Jonathan Haas picked up a fall in 4:05, while Dillon Stowell, Sean Peacock, and Triston Engle also recorded falls. Don Murray started coaching when Richard Millhous Nixon was President. In other action, No. 24 Waynesburg beat Muskingum 33-12, while in the NAIA we saw Lindenwood-Belleville top Missouri Baptist 27-22. Missouri Baptist would win the nightcap over first-year St. Mary of Kansas, coached by former Oregon head coach Chuck Kearney. Keeping things in the NAIA, York College of Nebraska, they’re the Panthers, not the one in Pennsylvania, topped Kansas Wesleyan 42-5. On the women’s side, Missouri Baptist’s women defeated Lindenwood-Belleville 29-12 and St. Mary 37-10. No theme tonight. Just a solemn salute to people like my late Granddaddy Otis “Plug” Abbott who served in World War II and was on the second wave of Normandy years after what today’s anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack is remembered as. December 7, 1941 was a day that according to President Franklin Roosevelt, that will live in infamy. I never had the pleasure of serving this nation, but my family did in numerous branches of the military. My father was in the Army, so were both my grandfathers. I’m not sure where my paternal grandfather was at the time, but Otis was in Europe, where he met my soon-to-be grandmother. My mother was born overseas to an American GI. God Bless America and those who serve and protect her.   JOIN THE TEAM And if you're a fan of the extensive and broad-based reach of the shows on the Mat Talk Podcast Network, become a TEAM MEMBER today.
