WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Ep 027 - Queen Quail is the dream-pop project of Kirstin Edwards.   Queen Quail is the dream-pop project of Kirstin Edwards. QQ began after Kirstin came across a “Zwergwachtel”, or dwarf quail, at the botanical gardens in Berlin, Germany. The tiny bird’s quiet focus struck Kirstin – and seemed to reflect her own shy, though energetic, nature. The Wisconsin native has since used the pseudonym Queen Quail to foster her artistry and carefully unveil her inner world.  Reverbant guitar riffs and chilling vocals fill the open spaces of her songs with a haunting beauty – one grown out of deep introspection, a desire to understand, and the search for inner truth. Kirstin grew up only a few hundred meters from Lake Michigan (unsurprisingly, one may find images of water throughout her music). A cellist by training, she now finds inspiration from the vibrance & intensity of Berlin, Germany, and the quieter calm of Milwaukee, Wisconsin - her two chosen homes since 2017. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Episode 026 The Stephan Hull Experience Experience the Blues through the heart and soul of Stephen Hull, self taught blues artist since age 14. Dubbed a young B.B. and Albert King   22-year-old Stephen Hull of Racine picked up the guitar eight years ago and taught himself how to play the blues. He started the Stephen Hull Experience in 2018 and has been playing gigs in southeastern Wisconsin and the Chicago-area. His band was a finalist in the 2021 Interstate Music Competition — one of seven out of a couple hundred. The band submitted three songs in a video audition and walked away with silver just this past month. Watch Stephen Hull Experience perform "Killing Floor":  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffckWPibt4s&feature=youtu.be Hull says when he is playing the blues, he can feel himself flow through his guitar and the music takes over his entire body. “I've had several moments on stage where it's just like, I'm not playing that guitar, I don't know who is but it sure sounds good,” he says. “It has to come from your soul and has to be a 100% vibe.” When it comes to influences, Hull cites Albert King as his main influence along with B.B. King, Elmore James and modern blues artist Jontavious Willis. Blues was started by rural Black communities in the deep south beginning in the late 1800s. That cultural influence over the past century, Hull says: “It is, in fact, a story. Whether most people realize it or not, you can't separate the Black from the blues." "It's 100% a cultural story that is, just, in a more, I want to say, digestible form," he says, "We're able to listen to it, get something out of it, and move on about our day ... a pleasant sounding song, we all kind of digest on some level.” With the blues being contemporaneous with slavery ending in the United States, Hull says part of the beauty in blues comes from the fact that this music was created by people looking to turn painful experiences into positive ones. “One thing I find to be beautiful about the Black experience is that no matter what, there's always going to be that silver lining that someone can make out of it. Resilience is just one of the most astonishing things that I've come to recognize about the Black community,” he says. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.WisconsinMusicPodcast.com/podcast Sponsored by: Diamond Dave Photography  www.facebook.com/DiamondDavePhotography   ZTF Studio www.ZTFstudio.com   Podcast Song written by Nate Wycoff and has a recording studio at https://www.frequencyfarmrecordingstudio.com/   Voice Over Intro by Dean Bundy   Syndicated on www.cwHipHop.com with Jacob Haimer ------------------------------------------------------------ #WisconsinMusicPodcast #WisconsinMusic #WisconsinMusician #ZTFStudio #podcasting #podcastlife #podcasters #bhfyp #PodernFamily #Supportlocalmusic #Supportlocalmusicians #Milwaukee #Blues #bluesguitar #bluesguitarist #WisconsinMusic #WisconsinMusician #BBKing #AlbertKing #StevieRayVaughn #milwaukeemusic #podernfamily #bhfyp   https://www.facebook.com/StephenHullExperience/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffckWPibt4s -------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.WisconsinMusicPodcast.com/podcast Sponsored by: Diamond Dave Photography  www.facebook.com/DiamondDavePhotography   ZTF Studio www.ZTFstudio.com Podcast Song written by Nate Wycoff and has a recording studio at https://www.frequencyfarmrecordingstudio.com/ Voice Over Intro by Dean Bundy Syndicated on www.cwHipHop.com with Jacob Haimer ------------------------------------------------------------------------- #WisconsinMusicPodcast #WisconsinMusic #WisconsinMusician #ZTFStudio #podcasting #podcastlife #podcasters #bhfyp #PodernFamily #Supportlocalmusic #Supportlocalmusicians #Milwaukee #bluegrass #bluegrass #milwaukeebluegrass #stringband #supportlocalsmusic #countrymusic #banjo #bluegrassmusic #mandolin #fiddle #americana #folkmusic #fingerpicking #violin #acousticguitar #milwaukeemusic #podernfamily #bhfyp

WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Episode 25 The MilBillies ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When The MilBillies set out to record their debut album, their goal was to capture the energy and drive of the stage performances that have made them a mainstay of the music scene in and around Milwaukee. The plan was simple. The string band’s five members worked with sound engineers at Milwaukee’s Silver City Studios to record the tracks “live,” setting microphones up in a circle to capture the natural sound of the bass, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and dobro. The vocals were saved until the end. Otherwise, overdubs and re-takes were kept to a minimum. Rather than a slick studio artifact, the band sought to produce the sort of experience that can be had only when musicians are responding to each other in the moment, picking up on small cues and allowing their music to flow naturally. The results, evident on every track of this recording, more than justify the approach. The band members went so far toward capturing their essence that they decided to go with the simplest title possible: The MilBillies. With this stripped-down recording, fans who might not have seen the band live can now have essentially the same experience anywhere they want. But The MilBillies’ ambitions did not stop there. Besides reproducing the feel of a live show, the band wanted to draw further attention to its original songwriting, which has already led to a Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) nomination in 2020 for New Artist of the Year. Influenced as much by pop and classic rock as bluegrass, The MilBillies’ tunes feature hooks with universal appeal.   The album’s 12 original tracks range from driving breakdowns to bluesy groovers to simple love songs. Their lyrics often pay homage to the city The MilBillies are proud to call home. Snippets of Milwaukee history receive a nod in the tracks “Ol’ Fred” and “Goodland,” while “Hoods” alludes to three local neighborhoods – and the difficulties of finding romance in each. Others, such as “Wild Turkey” and “High Class Low Life,” revel in the good times and raucous atmosphere that are a hallmark of the band’s shows. Equally noteworthy is the album’s artwork. For this, The MilBillies worked with the contemporary installation artist Jennifer Angus, a professor at UW-Madison, to find an ideal setting for the cover photo. The search took The MilBillies all the way to the Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh, where they found the perfect complement to their music: An exhibit meant to be experienced in-person to accompany a record offering so much of the essence of live performance. With COVID-19 having shut down most musical venues, The MilBillies’ debut album could hardly come at a better time. Listeners will not only be able to hit play on a recording reproducing the intensity of on-stage shows; they’ll also have a chance to delve into well-written songs that reward repeat listens with clever lyrics, solid musicianship and tuneful hooks that – once heard – will remain with them well into the future.   For more information about The MilBillies and their debut album, please write to milbillies1@gmail.com or call Joe Wais at (630) 967-8996.  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.WisconsinMusicPodcast.com/podcast Sponsored by: Diamond Dave Photography  www.facebook.com/DiamondDavePhotography   ZTF Studio www.ZTFstudio.com   Podcast Song written by Nate Wycoff and has a recording studio at https://www.frequencyfarmrecordingstudio.com/   Voice Over Intro by Dean Bundy   Syndicated on www.cwHipHop.com with Jacob Haimer ------------------------------------------------------------ #WisconsinMusicPodcast #WisconsinMusic #WisconsinMusician #ZTFStudio #podcasting #podcastlife #podcasters #bhfyp #PodernFamily #Supportlocalmusic #Supportlocalmusicians #Milwaukee #bluegrass #bluegrass #milwaukeebluegrass #stringband #supportlocalsmusic #countrymusic #banjo #bluegrassmusic #mandolin #fiddle #americana #folkmusic #fingerpicking #violin #acousticguitar #milwaukeemusic #podernfamily #bhfyp

WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Episode 024 Gary Tanin / Daystorm Music Audio Engineer, Music Producer, and Publicist Gary Tanin (born Gary Stefan Tanin, 19 September 1952, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is a veteran Milwaukee musician/producer/engineer with a career spanning decades and reflecting two central themes: music and technology. Biography At age 16, Tanin had already laid the foundation for his calling when landed a record deal with Odessa Records, recording his original material. While attending the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee during the early 70's, Tanin apprenticed as an audio engineer at ARCO Recording Studios where he studied the Art and Science of audio recording and production. In the mid 70s he released the critically acclaimed, self-produced concept album Otto & The Elevators. In the early 80's he foresaw the unique possibility of combining newly emerging computer technology with music. He produced dozens of artists during the 70s and 80s. He has had numerous articles published in industry publications, including the CMC Source Book and AfterTouch(tm). These special interests led to Tanin's work with garageband.com co-founder Jerry Harrison (of the rock band Talking Heads).  Harrison contributed to Sublime Nation, Tanin's 1995 solo CD released by MultiMusicaUSA. In addition to Sublime Nation, Gary has released several national critically acclaimed CDs of his own and produced local, national, and international artists. Tanin's Japanese/US release, XPensive Dogs, is an intercontinental fusion of east and west. A follow-up to XPensive Dogs, entitled DOG EAT DOG, was released in 2004. Japanese label Hard Disc International released XPensive Dogs, and Sublime Nation was released in Japan on the Mouse Records imprint. Tanin's entire catalog is being distributed in the US by RockIt Records (USA).[3] Gary Tanin has produced for bands like the BoDeans, Monovox, and Sam Llanas, and mastering for the likes of ex-Violent Femmes drummer Victor DeLorenzo and Daryl Stuermer (of Phil Collins and Genesis fame). Tanin has won the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Producer Of The Year Awards for 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010.[4] He was an active past member of the Audion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ www.WisconsinMusicPodcast.com/podcast Sponsored by: Diamond Dave Photography  www.facebook.com/DiamondDavePhotography ZTF Studio www.ZTFstudio.com   Podcast Song written by Nate Wycoff and has a recording studio at https://www.frequencyfarmrecordingstudio.com/ Voice Over Intro by Dean Bundy Syndicated on www.cwHipHop.com with Jacob Haimer------------------------------------------------------------ #WisconsinMusicPodcast #WisconsinMusic #WisconsinMusician #ZTFStudio #podcasting #podcastlife #podcasters #bhfyp #PodernFamily #Supportlocalmusic #Supportlocalmusicians #Milwaukee

WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCASTEp 13.5: Suzanne JamiesonTEASER CLIPSuzanne grew up as a child of the 80’s.Cassettes of Tiffany, Janet, The Cure, and the Bangles were blasted from her pink boombox while she made up dances on her bed. Those tapes were eventually replaced by CDs of Broadway soundtracks in the 90’s. She eventually earned a BFA in Musical Theatre from Syracuse University and earned many credits on the stage and screen in New York and Los Angeles. Suzanne released her first album, A Sun-Up Sky, in 2009, a collection of old standards and showtunes.Suzanne became a mother in 2012 and couldn’t find a lullaby album she loved…so she made one. Shine: Lullabies for Everyone was released in 2014, just before the birth of her son, and won many awards including NAPPA, Parents Choice, Kids Choice, and Creative Child CD of the Year.Nowadays, her kids know every word to Katy Perry’s “Roar.” Suzanne realized that if she wanted to teach them tools for happiness and success, she needed to become her own pop star. Bounce, co-written and produced by triple Grammy nominated childrens’ band The Pop Ups, blends her light, playful instrument with heavy 80’s influences to create a unique sound unlike anything else on the childrens music scene.Suzanne does parents’ work for them. No more lectures met with rolling eyes. The lessons are serious; the music is not.--------------------------------------------------------www.WisconsinMusicPodcast.com/podcastSponsored by: ZTF Studio at www.ZTFstudio.comPodcast Song written by Nate Wycoff and has a recording studio at https://www.frequencyfarmrecordingstudio.com/Voice Over Intro by Dean BundySyndicated on www.cwHipHop.com with Jacob Haimer-----------------------------------------------------#WisconsinMusicPodcast #WisconsinMusic #WisconsinMusician #ZTFStudio #podcasting #podcastlife #podcasters #bhfyp #PodernFamily #Supportlocalmusic #Supportlocalmusicians
