Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

We are back! Happy 2021! We're sorry this episode is later than we had hoped, Corona decided to do an Empire and it striked back and buggered our plans to get back into your ear-holes last week. Anyways, we're back now. We had to re-record this week as GarageBand decided to F us and corrupt our first attempt at this episode, but we persevered. Matt then kicks off the news with a Finnish tyre company wanting to sell 'Lifelong tyres', and the new Ford Ranger has been spied in camo and it looks "very F150-y" and it'll be a shared platform with the next Volkswagen Amarok. Joseph then talks about Toyota's new GR010 LMP1 race-car, and Nissan pretty much gearing up to release the 400Z which will, allegedly, look exactly like the 400Z Prototype. Mitch then talks about Ken Block and Ford getting a divorce and seeing other people; ie, they've parted ways. Ken might potentially go back to Subaru. Then Mitch talks about the new Singer ACS Safari/Rally 911; a two-off commission by a rich bloke. Joseph then talks about BMW shitting the bed with the new M2 CS promotional video, which features the audio-track of an Audi V10 super-imposed over the video... Basically, BMW is having an identity crisis at the moment. Joseph then talks about GM's crap new logo that is just pure crap. Mitch then goes on a rant about how he got banned from commenting on Ozzy Tyres' Facebook page, then Joseph and Mitch then talk about getting OBD2 readers for their cars, and we talk about Mitch's new Android head unit and GME UHF. Then Joseph talks about his OS Giken 1.5 LSD Diff that's being installed very soon, and Joel talks about his recent issues with his 300ZX. Hey, would you look at that? This week we're up ontime! We kick off the news with the marketing release of the 2022 Subaru BRZ, larger engine, marginally larger body, no official word on pricing or availability. We then talk about Lotus coming out with a bloody SUV... Colin Chapman must be rolling in his grave, and Joseph talks about a new Hemi-powered Jeep Wrangler that will only be sold in America, and the GR Yaris is sold out until end of next year; not including the 'Rallye' variant. Then Mitch gets it wrong about the Gazoo Racing CH-R. Joel then provides some actual news for a change, claiming that Lotus will make one more ICE model before transitioning entirely to an electric monel lineup. Joseph then talks about Mercedes-AMG breaking the Nurburgring (production car) Lap Record with their GT Black Series, beating the Porsche GT2RS (not the MR one) by 1.354 seconds. We then play Joseph's new game, which is basically the engine-swap feature in Forza, which was a lot of fun. Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

We're back for episode 159! This week, we manage to find some news to talk about despite it being a pretty slow news week. Mitch kicks off the news with Porsche developing 3D-printed pistons for the GT2RS which allow the engine to produce 22kw more power, while being lighter, stronger, and more resistant to heat, AND increase the redline of the engine; all good stuff, from there Joseph talks about the Michelin Cup 2 tyres that were developed for the GT2RS and how incredible they are for a 'street tyre'. Mitch then talks about the Cosworth-developed engine specs of Gordon Murray's T.50 Supercar, which redlines to 12,100RPM, and that the new Nissan 400Z should be in showrooms next year. Joseph then has news about Mercedes recalling the G-Wagen 63 over a 'misleading' child lock symbol, of all things. Joel talks about a recent drive with 2 of his other mates, one of whom had an old XJS V12 Jaguar which (predictably) broke down. Matt then plays a game with us to guess a car, which then turns into a bit of news, before talking about Segway producing an electric dirt bike. Mitch then talks about his first time learning to weld, and then we talk about the Porsche Taycan. We are back for episode 126! Crazy that we've come this far, and we only have you guys to thank. Without your support, we probably wouldn't have called it quits 100 episodes ago, so thanks! We kick off this week with a bit of beer talk and general nonsense before breaking into a bit of supercar SUV news, and Mitch triggers the other two by talking shit about Maserati. Matt then talks about Asetto Corsa and his recent attempt at racing a Formula 1 car around Bathurst, and Matt confuses himself and the rest of us by talking about Supercars when he meant Formula 1's, we then talk about Formula 1's in general and the changes to the rules from 2021, and Joseph talks about tyres. Matt then asks a question to you, our awesome audience, about what benefit 9-blade turbos have over 11/12-blade turbos. Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

We're back for episode 110! This week we're joined once again by Ben from Pencil's Ballercast, and we start off with an argument on how to pronounce the video game title 'FORZA', before covering off our topics for this week's episode. We start off by briefly talking about the class action case against Toyota and their Hilux and the issues surrounding the Diesel Particulate Filter issues, before tangenting into a bit of news from Joseph about a survey about road conditions around Australia; Sydney being considered the worst, followed by Brisbane. Joseph then has some news about the 2020 Ford Mustang, with Ford trying to make the EcoBoost more enticing for the 2020 model year.... By increasing the price by $1,000 and adding 7nm of torque as well as new wheels. Then Joseph brings up even more news, this time about BMW announcing its plans to kill of models, including the new Z4. Then we talk about Joseph's family's new Swift that Matt only just noticed, CVT's, and Mitch complains about the Mitsubishi ASX. Then Mitch talks about what he's done to his Hilux this week, specifically the install of an Ebay-special snorkel, and a Uniden UHF. Ben, on the behalf of his dad Paul, asks us to recommend a 'warm' hatch, we immediately jump to the Hyundai N-Line, and learn that the Focus ST is still a thing, which blows Matt's mind. Mitch then has a discussion topic about the HSV SportsCat having AP Racing brakes, and whether it makes sense for the type of vehicle the SportsCat is. Matt then starts a game of 'Would You Rather', before we break into Matt's decade game. Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

We're back for episode 105! This week we start off talking about the burping properties between Heineken and Great Northern, before sending out condolences to Mr. Ben Sewell who tore his ACL (rip). Then, Mitch breaks into a rant and argument about Matthew's comments from last week's episode about Porsche and turbocharging. Then Mitch goes onto another rant about BMW / Mini, and their false British-ness, then Matt rants about Mini, but about their ridiculous range - when all they need is 2. Joseph then brings up news about the Hyundai Genesis G70, and finally releasing their pricing/specs for the Australian market, and Matthew quickly talks about how his old Subaru Forester XT is still up for sale on CarSales. Joseph then talks a bit more about his new brake system, after getting used to it for another week, and Matt talks about how Garth Tander and his wife Christina Nielsen had a small bingle on track. Then Mitch talks about the sneakly little tricks that some of the Excel Cup teams use to gain an edge over the competition; from different ECU's, better engines, and milling out the ballast blocks. We then talk about LeMons racing, and what cars would make good platforms for LeMons or cheap car racing, and personalised plates and their extreme costs. Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

We're back for episode 101, with a new intro! This week, we start off by talking about hair cuts and fashion, of all things. Mitch then does a quick review on the Holden Astra VX, before transitioning into talking about Ferrari's new $1M-plus Supercar; the SF90 Stradale with 736Kw from a combination of a turbocharged V8 and 3 electric motors. We then briefly talk about Aston Martin and argue about naturally aspirated Vs. turbocharging. Matt then talks about Australian pricing for the Tesla Model 3 being announced, at $66,000. Joseph then talks about how you can pick up an Alfa-Romeo Quadrifoglio as a dealer-demo for $90,000 with only 4,00Km on the clock. Matt talks about the to-be Volkswagen Golf R Plus; an $80,000 300Kw 450Nm AWD pocket-rocket confirmed to be coming to Australia. Joseph talks about the new epic-looking Volvo S60 and V60 with a turbo-supercharged hybrid system developing 311Kw and 600+ Nm. Matt then talks about Jaguar killing off the XJ in July, and they will replace it in 2020 with an 420Kw and 700Nm EV. Joseph then trolls us with a $625,000 Ford Falcon XR6 advertised on CarSales. Then Matt goes on CarSales and asks us what the 5 most expensive cars currently for sale on CarSales. Mitch then talks about how the Lamborghini Urus, like the Kia Stinger, looks so much better in person than it does in photos. Matt then asks us what the bottom 5 cheapest cars are on CarSales. Then Mitch starts asking a question that Matt came up with on the way to the pod that he'd forgotten, until he remembers and asks the question himself. The question is in relation to servicing intervals, and why the intervals are measured on time and distance travelled and not litres of fuel used. This then turns into a bit of a classic Gears and Beers argument between Matt and Joseph. Joseph kicks off the news this week with Ford inventing a product that literally nobody asked for, and Kim Jong Un rocking a Mercedes S600 and Mercedes doesn't know how he got it. Matt talks about the camo'd-up new Land Rover Defender, and even though it's camo'd, it looks awful, and Joseph asks what we'd pick between a Toyota 79 series or a Ford Ranger Raptor. Joseph then brings up the Victorian Police getting a brand new BMW M5, and the new US Hakone Edition GT86 special edition in 'British Green Limited' green, not British Racing Green, an important distinction, and we talk about Chrysler's 300C. Then Mitch talks utter nonsense about the new Toyota test track, and the new manual Aston Martin Vantage AMR. This week we're joined once again by Ben of the Pencil's Ballercast, and we talk a bit of shit before breaking into this week's news! Joseph kicks us off with Uber introducing a 7-year age cap on vehicles used to Uber, then Mitch talks about the NRMA wanting the Australian Government to ban the sale of all internal combustion engines by the year 2030, which we think is complete bollocks, but it does start a healthy discussion about renewable energy personal transportation. Then Mitch breaks into a deeply passionate rant about windscreen wipers, and how bad drivers get even worse in bad weather. Then we get onto our poll from last week, between whether the Mazda RX8 is cool, or is not cool. By a nose, you our audience, think the RX8 is cool by a nose! Then we talk about which is better, the Mitsubishi Delica or the Toyota Tarago, which develops into a complete argument about how to pronounce "Delica". Then Matt talks about his adventures while camping over the weekend, and getting his LandCruiser well and truly stuck. Joseph then talks about Honda's April Fools gag-advertisement for their 'Pastport' self-spoof of their 'Passport', and then we talk about Australian car sales statistics being well and truly in the toilet. We're back for episode 84! And this week, we are once again joined by Joel, AKA Rent-A-Crowd. We start off this week with Joel talking about his Nissan Z32 finally being on the road, and we talk about other coupes too. Mitch then talks about some news, and the first piece of news (which later turned out to not be true), is that Subaru and Toyota at the time of recording having no plans to update the BRZ or GT86, then Mitch goes on to rant about the insane prices of small, old, Suzuki 4x4's on CarSales.com.au, and Joseph talks a bit about the 'new' Series 1 Holden Monaro. Then Joel asks a question about who he should insure his Nissan Z32 through. Then Mitch talks about the Takata airbag recall, and how the last 8% of owners with affected vehicles flatly refusing in many cases of getting it fixed, and Joseph talks about his old man's Hilux and a Toyota service centre refusing to install the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) cleaning button. We have a new game! Matt has come up with a new game for us to play, which should be a regular segment for quite some time. The new game is called 'How Bout Dat'. This week we talk about carbon fibre conrods unveiled at SEMA 2018, then we talk a bit about SEMA in general and some of our favourite builds from the show. We then talk about class restrictions for some local racing series that Joseph competes in, we then talk a bit more about Joseph's racing. Then Mitch triggers Matt with a bit of a hot take about turbos, and not-so-gracefully transition to Subaru's (and Toyota's) recall on MY12 to MY13 vehicles fitted with the FA20 engine. Subaru says that the valve springs may fail and cause complete engine failure. We then talk about Chevrolet making a 1-off electric Camaro drag car, and segway onto talking about the differences between the used car markets in Australia and America. Joseph then causes a massive argument between himself and Matt about the rear muffler in a stock 86 and its diffuser properties, both poorly using maths and science. We then talk about the wider 86/BRZ club, and how the Instagram and Stance community has tarnished the community. We then transition on to a discussion about 86's speakers and their sound quality, or lack-there-of according to Matt. Then Mitch talks about the new Suzuki Jimny, which gets us off onto talking about 4x4's, and later we talk about it being confirmed for Australia in Q1 2019. We then talk about E10 vs E85, and fuels in general. We then talk about Matt breaking the lower timing belt cover off the Project Prado. Then Mitch was disappointed with the new series "Rise" and the re-boot of "Reboot", but we both dig the new animated "Corner Gas". In movies, Mitch goes to the cinema to see "Pacific Rim: Uprising", is impressed with "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri" and Joe and his wife have differing opinions on "Annihilation" and "Spiderman: Homecoming" before both enjoying "Hurricane Bianca". Then for our topic, seeing as it was Wrestlemania week, we talk about how we became wrestling fans growing up, meeting each other at the Prince Pat's, how we got involved in the local scene, our thoughts on the actual Wrestlemania 34 event, and Joe gets emotional watching the new Andre The Giant HBO doco.
