FOLLOW UP: EU ADVISOR APPROVES PURSUING DEFEAT DEVICE DAMAGES CLAIMSAn EU court advisor has stated that owners of vehicles fitted with defeat devices should be allowed to pursue damages. This is not a final ruling but very rarely do the judges not follow such advice. This case is against Mercedes-Benz. If this is ruled upon, it will be up to individual countries to calculate damages that align with loss and damages caused by such devices. For more, click the Automotive News story here. NEW CAR REGISTRATION FIGURES MAY 2022The weakest May, in three decades outside of 2020's lockdown situation, meant that there was a 20.6% drop in registrations. Supply chain issues, including Covid lockdowns and the war in Ukraine are all contributing factors. You can learn more by clicking the SMMT link here. MERCEDES TO RECALL 1M CARS Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly one million cars that could have faulty brakes. Owners of some R-Class, ML and GL models, built between 2004 and 2015, are being advised not to drive their cars until they have been inspected. To read more, click here for the Autocar article link. HMRC NOT KEEPING PACE WITH ENERGY PRICE RISESHMRC has now brought in their new mileage rates, which company car drivers can claim, however they do not match the rise in energy prices. They, in fact, do not rise at all, unlike petrol and diesel rates. This has caused much frustration from those who may well be out of pocket as prices continue to rise. More can be read on this, just click here for the Autocar article. FUEL PRICE SURGE IN MAYPetrol and diesel prices surged in May, rising on average 10p per litre. The war in Ukraine is being blamed for the 17% increase in wholesale costs. For more, click this Autocar article link. CARZAM CLOSES DIGITAL DOORSCarzam, one of the new breed of online only car purchasing sites has gone into voluntary receivership. Unlike Cazoo and Cinch, this entity was created by people from within the car retail industry and therefore thought of as one of the better prospects. For more on this story, click the Car Dealership Magazine link here. MERCEDES DITCHES MOST B-CLASS VARIANTSPrior to the facelift of the B-Class, later this year, Mercedes-Benz has cut all but two model options from the range. Only the 200 and 200d, a petrol and diesel respectively, versions will still be available to buy. Trim levels are also, well, trimmed down to now only give four options. More can be found out about this by clicking here for the Autocar link. FORD CUTTING FOCUS PRODUCTIONIn a move that likely indicates the demise of the Focus mode according to somel, the Saarlouis plant in Germany will reduce production of the model at the end of August. Ford has been vocal about prioritising more profitable models, therefore this does imply that the Puma is more favoured by management. BT-50 is of course the somewhat effeminate clone of the new Isuzu D-MAX. Built in the same factory, etc. BT-50 kicks off at $42,090 for the XT dual-cab chassis base-model and extends to $59,990 for the GT, which is about $3000 less than the top-spec D-MAX. Hyundai - industriously taking geologic time to launch the 8-speed dual clutch version of a car for which I have enduring mad love: The Golf GTI-killing i30 N. Total weapon. The Fastback - so sexy. I30 N is seriously popular on this channel - 550,000 views across five videos, and counting. It’s one of the most popular performance car buying enquiries I get as well. And I can tell you the most popular impediment to buying one is - manual only. Typically the prospective owner has a partner, and said partner either can’t or won’t drive a manual - so, game over. The dual-clutch is the solution - due for local launch (finally) in the first half of 2021 here in Shitsville. Pro tip - have fun test driving this car, obviously, when you can. (Safely.) But don’t just test-drive it like you stole it. The DCT is gunna be awesome at that - it’s a done deal. DCTs are all excellent when you’re up them for the rent. Do as much test-driving as possible at low speeds - three-point turns, reverse-parking off a hill-start. Stuff like that. This is typically what DCTs are bad at. But if the new 8sp DCT in Sorento is anything to go by (and I don’t know how closely they are related, but probably quite a bit) you just might be pleasantly surprised. They’re also talking up the new lightweight seats - but I’d suggest that’s BS. They’re only 2.2 kilos lighter, and it’s a reduction in the sprung mass. So there’s that... The forged 19-inch alloys are probably more relevant - 14 kilos less in total, and all off the unsprung mass. Bigger brakes too. Not that it really needed that - they were already fairly death-proof. I did try to kill them, and I failed.

On this episode of the MotorCult podcast, we talk DMCA ammendment allowing you to hack your modern car's electronics legally (FINALLY!), automatics being better in every way than dual or single clutch automated manual transmissions, Dodge's factory gets early 90s chrysler drunk and embroidered some tramp stamps on ONE seat of a few new 2019 Rams. Hyundai isn't giving us the i30N, we knew this, but we ARE getting the Veloster N with factory anti-lag, DeTomaso's Longchamp looks like an italian fox body, Lime purportedly bringing Renault Twizzies to the states for their ride sharing service. Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast

We start off by talking about the new 2019 Subaru Forester which Matt and Mitch both think is ugly, and is not a Forester. Then Mitch talks about the new Suzuki Jimny, which gets us off onto talking about 4x4's, and later we talk about it being confirmed for Australia in Q1 2019. We then talk about E10 vs E85, and fuels in general. We then talk about Matt breaking the lower timing belt cover off the Project Prado. Matt then asks if you'd spend the extra $4000 for a brand new Mazda CX3, vs a used CX3 with a few thousand kilometres on the clock. We then talk about the i30N's current wait, and other hot hatches. Joseph then talks about the soon-to-be Mercedes Autohaus in Newstead Brisbane. Joseph then talks about brakes and brake cooling. www.gearsandbeersmedia.com For business and advertising enquiries, please email contact@gearsandbeersmedia.com #cars #news #suzuki #mazda #subaru #carnews #carpodcast #australian

Anyone would think it was Bastille Day with the French flavour of this weeks edition of Behind the Wheel. Tyson Bowen from Peugeot & Citreon takes us through what is next on the agenda for the car marques here in Australia. Joel & Pete have a great yarn about the latest Citroen C3, and Pete takes us around the block for a drive in it. Chris is excited about a Korean Car, and no, it's not the Kia Stinger. It comes from Kia's sister brand, Hyundai. It's their first ever performance offering and Chris is confident they've nailed on the first attempt with the i30N. And just wait till you hear it! Rachel Franco returns, with a bit of extra attitude this week. It's so worth listening too, even though she's a bit shirty, she has good reason to be. After week off, we are back and with a fancy new intro and outro thanks to Robert Lee, a voice many of you I'm sure will instantly recognise.Matt's away, so this week it's just Mitch, Joseph and Joel. First two news topics this week are about Hyundai releasing pricing for the upcoming i30N, and their genuine pursuit to crack into performance cars and motorsport by acquiring the head of BMW's M and Individual divisions, Thomas Schemera. We think if you're going for a Volkswagen GTi, you should seriously consider the i30N. In fact, it wins our vote.We then discuss the new McLaren Senna, and the $530,000 optional Carbon Themed option design my McLaren Special Operations. We then discuss Holden's concession that their cars have also fallen victim to the Takata airbag recall fiasco. We than do Joseph's interpretation of 'What about this car' and we come across an absolute doozy of a car; a 2007 Mitsubishi Colt Turbo RZ convertible.Joseph then ta
