Ocurrió el martes 14 de mayo en un predio rural cercano al a vecina localidad de Colonia Barón, llamado "El Cartucho". El trailer estaba validado en 6 millones de pesos y según informó el productor en la denuncia, al momento del robo se encontraba con una cadena en una rueda, que había sido cortada y sustraída.  Tras una investigación se logró ubicar el carro en un corralón de materiales en el barrio Villa Elisa de la capital provincial, donde tras realizar un allanamiento lograron secuestrarlo. Además, secuestraron una camioneta Volkswagen Amarok que habría sido utilizada para cometer el hecho. Dos personas mayores de edad, una oriunda de Santa Rosa y otra de Toay fueron detenidas y las mismas quedaron a disposición de la justicia.  Trabajó personal de la Brigada de Investigaciones de General Pico y Santa Rosa, en conjunto con personal policial de la Comisaría Departamental de Colonia Barón.

El fiscal Juan Pellegrino, paso por el aire de Radio 5 para hablar sobre el fatal accidente que se produjo después de las 14:00 horas sobre ruta provincial 101, donde lamentablemente una persona de 91 años de edad, terminó perdiendo su vida tras el impacto. En diálogo con el fiscal, expresó, “el Chevrolet Corsa conducido por Rodolfo Rodríguez de 91 años, salía de un precio rural de su propiedad, el Corsa sube a la cinta asfáltica y en un momento circula una Volkswagen Amarok, de sur a norte, que no puede evitar la colisión y lo impacta en el sector lateral al Corsa. La camioneta termina en un zanjón y el Corsa hace un giro y termina con su parte frontal enfocada a Vertiz”. Uno de los puntos que le toca analizar al fiscal en este momento es en la velocidad que venía circulando la Pick Up, porque la misma podría cambiar la carátula de la causa. “Uno de los puntos a analizar es la velocidad de la camioneta porque desde otro punto de vista, si las velocidades son normales, el Corsa se vuelve un obstáculo infranqueable para la Amarok, pero yo no puedo aventurarme en las responsabilidades de uno y otro, para ver si se va a sostener la imputación contra el conductor de la Amarok o la causa se desestima”. Uno de los puntos que se resaltaron en el siniestro fue la edad del conductor del Corsa y al respecto comentó, “nosotros lamentablemente por nuestro trabajo, vemos distintos siniestros y lo cierto es que en su mayoría los responsables suelen ser personas que están en un rango etario que nadie cuestionaría que no están en condiciones físicas para poder conducir un vehículo, y los siniestros ocurren de todas maneras”.

On the occasion of celebrating its 100-year anniversary, automotive manufacturer Ford Motor Company South Africa (FMCSA) has announced it will start producing plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) Ranger models at its Silverton, Pretoria, manufacturing facility late next year. The automaker is investing R5.2-billion in expanding its existing facility to accommodate the new models on the same assembly lines as the diesel and petrol vehicles, and in building a dedicated battery pack assembly facility. Particularly, the chassis plant will be upgraded to accommodate the unique chassis configuration of the plug-in hybrid Ranger, including changes to the robots, welding equipment, control systems, conveyors and skids. The PHEV models are destined for export to Europe, Australia and New Zealand, but Ford Middle East & Africa operations VP Ockert Berry is confident that the company will see local uptake of them as well. He tells Engineering News that, with the South African Ford facilities already being geared up to produce Ranger vehicles, it made sense for the group to expand to PHEV Ranger production. It will be the first time in two decades that the Silverton plant will be supplying vehicles to the Australian and New Zealand markets. Berry adds that the plant will initially target production of 30 000 PHEV Ranger units a year and ramp up as required. The plant currently produces about 200 000 vehicles a year, comprising Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok vehicles. The Ranger PHEV will deliver more torque than any other Ranger, owing to a 2.3-litre Ford EcoBoost turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor and rechargeable battery system. It can be driven in pure electric mode for more than 45 km without using a drop of fuel or producing tailpipe emissions. It will provide all the towing and payload capability customers expect of Ranger, along with Pro Power Onboard for the first time, enabling customers to power their tools and appliances on a worksite or remote campsite by plugging them into power outlets embedded in both the cargo bed and the cabin. The latest investment in the plant adds to a total R33-billion that FMCSA has invested at its plants in Silverton, and Struanway, in Gqeberha. Moreover, FMCSA reveals an expanded product range that will be available for purchase in the South African market within the next 18 months, including the all-electric Mustang Mach-E, a seventh-generation Mustang range that will include the most powerful naturally aspirated Mustang to date - the Mustang Dark Horse, an all-new Territory five-seater special utility vehicle and the next-generation Torneo Custom and Transit Custom models. Additionally, Ford will soon launch two new Ranger models, Tremor and Platinum, made specially for the South African market. The Tremor is a more adventure-oriented Ranger model with added off-road functionality, while the Platinum will comprise ultimate driving comfort features. The first new Ranger ­– Job 1 – has been assembled at Ford's Silverton plant in Pretoria. Production of the new-generation bakkie follows a R16-billion investment in the US car maker's local operations and at its suppliers. Ford now has three production hubs in its International Markets Group (IMG) producing the new Ranger – the Silverton plant and two plants in Thailand. The company also has completely knockdown operations in Vietnam and Cambodia, with plants in the US and Argentina to begin production next year. Capacity at the Silverton plant has been increased to 200 000 units a year, with 70% of production to be exported to markets such as Europe and Mexico, says Ford IMG operations director Andrea Cavallaro. The Pretoria plant will, however, not realise its full production volume next year, he adds, as the single cab will only enter production around April. Currently only the Volkswagen Amarok and Ranger double cabs are being produced at the plant. Cavallaro is positive, however, that the facility should be able to reach 150 000 units in 2023, as “demand is pretty hot”. He warns though that Europe is expected to face tough economic conditions next year, and that this will most likely dampen the automotive market there. “That will have an impact on what we produce here, but we are still sketchy on what that impact will be – 10%? 20%?” Ford will also have to weigh all of its global production options as Europe has unexpectedly pulled forward the introduction of Euro VII emission standards to 2025. The much stricter standard has the potential to greatly impact South Africa's new-vehicle exports to Europe, as Europe is the country's single biggest export market. “It is a bit of a strange announcement, and we'll have to see what engineering is required to meet all of those conditions,” Cavallaro tells Engineering News Online. “They have changed the conditions and brought it forward.” He confirms that Ford is working on a Ranger plug-in hybrid, which will, from its inherent engineering, be able to meet more strict emission standards. “Europe is really important for us,” says Cavallaro. “And with our production footprint globally we have the flexibility to move things around.” He is quick, however, to calm any fears about South Africa's production future. “We have invested here and the last thing we would do is not use the capacity here.” Cavallaro does, however, emphasise that Silverton will have to deliver a sustained quality assembly effort going forward, as will the operation's component suppliers. As for the continued loadshedding rounds the South African manufacturing sector is forced to face, Cavallaro says Ford's manufacturing operations in Pretoria and Port Elizabeth appear to be cushioned from the effects of Stages 1 to 4, but not Stage 5 and onwards. Therefore, Ford is steaming ahead with its plans to reach grid independency by 2025, with some serious planning to achieve this expected in the next 12 months. A first phase of solar power, already implemented, will be followed by a second stage, which should address around 35% to 40% of Silverton's energy needs, says Cavallaro. Phase 2 will also include battery solutions, as the plant now runs 24 hours a day in a three-shift operation. The next phases will look at other renewable sources, such as biogas. New Plant Ford's revamped Silverton plant boasts an on-site stamping plant, a new, highly automated body shop, a Ford-owned and operated frame line, and refreshed vehicle assembly operations on the trim, chassis and final line. The expanded plant added 1 200 new jobs for a third shift, in order to support increased production volumes. This takes the workforce at Ford South Africa to 5 500 employees. Ford's supplier network benefitted too, with around 10 000 jobs added across the value chain. A total of 873 751 previous-generation Rangers were produced at the Silverton plant. Volkswagen senior executives claim the new 2023 Amarok will be 100 per cent a Volkswagen, despite being co-developed by Ford, being built by Ford in a Ford factory, despite rolling on the Ford Ranger platform, and also (most probably) running the Ford Ranger powertrains... Matt then talks about how 66% of Ford Australia's sales is the Ranger, which is causing some concern within the ranks of Ford Australia as the next Ranger is a shared platform with the Volkswagen Amarok, from which we talk about the Ford Bronco not coming to RHD markets and 'Murican "trucks". Mitch then talks about Lada bringing out a new Niva, while still selling the OG Niva, and BMW coming out with their first 'M' electric car, the i4 M, and the Mustang will more-than-likely only be offered with an electric drivetrain by the end of the decade, but the next-generation Mustang due in 2023 might get a new 6.8L V8, and Hyundai ending all development on new diesel engines. Matt then kicks off the news with a Finnish tyre company wanting to sell 'Lifelong tyres', and the new Ford Ranger has been spied in camo and it looks "very F150-y" and it'll be a shared platform with the next Volkswagen Amarok. Joseph then talks about Toyota's new GR010 LMP1 race-car, and Nissan pretty much gearing up to release the 400Z which will, allegedly, look exactly like the 400Z Prototype. Mitch then talks about Ken Block and Ford getting a divorce and seeing other people; ie, they've parted ways. Ken might potentially go back to Subaru. Then Mitch talks about the new Singer ACS Safari/Rally 911; a two-off commission by a rich bloke. Joseph then talks about BMW shitting the bed with the new M2 CS promotional video, which features the audio-track of an Audi V10 super-imposed over the video... Basically, BMW is having an identity crisis at the moment. Joseph then talks about GM's crap new logo that is just pure crap. It was a bit cartoonish. the latest model is more may stream. Feedback • A few quick comments on the three dual cab utes we took for a drive this week • Mazda BT-50 was solid, bland in gun metal grey and lacked a few ute type refinements – good for ongoing reliability • The Volkswagen Amarok was powerful and had Germanic efficiency but not quite the as much family comfort – good for towing • The Ford Ranger – had a bright burnt orange paint job, good features, easy to use infotainment – small but quiet engine – best for the family • For all the motoring talk about power and capability – we were taking some photos in the Hawksbury Show ground. A tough truck driver drove past, leant out the window and shouted - I will take the orange one • And talking about trucks, for the last few weeks we have ranted against car infotainment systems that are not easy to understand and use. A colleague who has driven trucks for over 20 years said that he spent all his time in Kenworths, if he were to hop into another brand he would struggle, because of the different way the instruments are set out. Além disso, a Chevrolet e a Ford também se preparam para entrar no segmento das picapes médio-compactas. A GM vai inaugurar a plataforma GEM e deve ter uma picape também para competir com a Fiat Toro, aposentando a pequena Montana. E a Ford também já confirmou que terá presença no segmento.
