On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by Kristin Johnson and Tim Eby to talk about inclusion and how to approach the subject with an open heart. KEY TAKEAWAYS At times inclusivity is overthought. For me, at least, it really comes down to the idea of belonging. It's about the idea that if you're recognised, rewarded and respected in whatever aspect of your role either in your work life or your personal life. Belonging and feeling welcome is key to this. I come to my role as executive director of the Special Education Foundation with a passion for helping kids and people with disabilities in many ways because of my own personal experience: I have 3 daughters, the oldest is neurotypical and a special education teacher, the two younger ones are on the autism spectrum. Having raised them I have a little understanding about the world of neurodiversity. But the SEF helps children with all disabilities and our goal is to create the independence for a student to be able to succeed inside and outside of school. If you are around people that have challenges (mental, physical or financial) you start to understand that they are very bright, they may just express it differently. For example, one of the strengths of people with dyslexia is that they can see the big picture and many actors – and even Einstein – was dyslexic. Many people that have ADHD or autism are very successful because they've been given the resources to be able to do that and had an environment that made them feel safe, not everybody has that especially now with all the economic challenges. Life can change in a heartbeat and you never know what impact you're going to have, what that one act of kindness is going to do. At the very least it can prove to someone that they're not alone and give them the strength to fight another day because they know they've got someone on their team. BEST MOMENTS‘There's such a power in believing the idea that we all deserve to belong in our world and that people accept you for who you are no matter who you are'. ‘We all want to feel seen, heard, understood, safe, supported, and also, we want to grow. Inclusiveness provides a space for us to grow'. ‘Parenting is a tremendous commitment anyway, but to help these children succeed even as they enter adulthood is hugely important and empowering, not just for the kids but for the parents as well'. ‘Inclusivity helps everyone better understand the world that they're in and to recognise and reward the difference that we all have'. In this week's episode, we watch a movie that is more applicable than ever - God Bless America. Adam and AJ hit up Wegmans in the morning for some Cars & Coffee. We kept the Rings together with a certain RS3, but also saw a Skyline disguised as a Suzuki, a VW Cabrio, Focus ST and of course all the old classics. Adam finishes his work on the RS4! All that remains is an alignment. AJ posits a question - what we have done to our cars now and in the past to make them our own? And what have we seen done in other people's cars? In the second half, a NYS Congress hopeful proposes legalizing ATVs and side-by-sides to be driven on public roads. What does that mean for the car and truck drivers out there? A long time radio and TV personality has passed on - Tom Park, known for his HUGE commercials with the late Billy Fuccillo. Adam talks about how drag strips across the country are closing. A friendly reminder with these hot temperatures to check for your kids and pets when getting out of your car. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brokecarsnobs/message

For more than 23 years, Kathy Lambert has worked to disrupt the cycle of poverty with a holistic family approach. Her journey began in 1997 after she read an article about Dress for Success New York, a nonprofit dedicated to helping women re-enter the workforce by providing interview clothing. Recognizing a similar need in her St. Louis community, Kathy launched Dress for Success Midwest to help women coming from difficult circumstances achieve economic independence.Kathy quickly learned about the challenges many low-income single moms face, including a lack of transportation and difficulty navigating social service and justice systems. To help address the need for transportation, Kathy's husband, Brad, started Wheels for Success, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting individuals and families with reliable transportation. In 2001, Kathy and Brad merged their organizations to create Connections to Success (CtS) with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and incarceration for the next generation.Kathy has provided passionate leadership and overseen CtS's growth into a regional nonprofit with sites in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas. Today CtS is nationally recognized as an evidence-based model for Economic Mobility, improving children's futures by helping parents gain social capital and achieve economic independence. Connections to Success has 13 Membership sites in 7 states.Kathy's work has been recognized locally and nationally. Key Takeaways:The best laid plans can go out the window. Abundance starts in the mind. When you shift your mindset from lack to abundance, your reality will be transformed as well. Our thoughts create our words, our words create our reality. How we speak, think and receive people shapes how our world can be. It's deeply ingrained in non-profit workers that doing good work has to take a toll on the worker, that they need to treat themselves less in order to serve the “greater good”. The truth is - that kind of thinking is out of alignment from the purpose and is greatly unsustainable. “Just because somebody is in a non-profit doesn't mean that they should make less… there has to be a shift in the mindset in regard to that” - Kathy Lambert Reach out to Kathy Lambert at:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kblimpactpartnersLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathy-lambert-kblimpactpartners/Website: https://kblimpactpartners.com/ Be more confident, credible & convincing to your board & supporters without feeling rejected, ineffective, or pushy.Learn to manage your mindset, lead yourself and others more effectively and have the meaningful conversations that drive your most important work. Also reinhören – kostet ja nichts!

Show #722 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 10th March 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. CADILLAC CANCELS DEBUT OF ALL-ELECTRIC LYRIQ OVER COVID-19 CONCERNS "Cadillac has cancelled the upcoming debut of the Lyriq, an all-electric mid-sized SUV designed to be an entry point into luxury brand’s new EV lineup, over concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak." reports TechCrunch: "GM’s luxury brand had planned to reveal the Lyriq on April 2 at an event in Los Angeles. The Geneva International Motor Show was cancelled, as well as MWC in Barcelona and the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The GM brand said in a statement that the event was being cancelled “out of an abundance of caution.”. The Lyriq is just one in a roster of electric vehicles that GM plans to bring to market in the next two years. The automaker revealed March 4 a sweeping plan to produce and sell EVs that hinges on a new electric architecture that will support a wide range of products across all of its brands, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC." https://techcrunch.com/2020/03/09/cadillac-cancels-debut-of-all-electric-lyriq-over-covid-19-concerns/ MINI COOPER SE GETS 110-MILE EPA RATING "MINI just announced the final specifications for the MINI Cooper SE (aka MINI Electric), valid from March 2020. At the same time, the EPA released its range and energy consumption ratings." says InsideEVs; "We start with the EPA range rating, which is in line with previous estimates. The new specs released is energy consumption - slightly higher than in the case of BMW i3. 2020 MINI Cooper SE Hardtop 2 door EPA rating: range of 110 miles (177 km). BMW i3 is equipped with a 42.2 kWh battery, while the MINI Cooper SE only gets a 32.6 kWh pack. The motor is the same as in i3s." MINI Cooper SE (MINI Electric) specs: EPA range of 110 miles (177 km) WLTP range of 200-232 km (124-144 miles), WLTP energy consumption of 15.5-18.0 kWh/100 km 32.6 kWh (gross) and 28.9 kWh (net) battery pack (12 modules; 93,2 Ah cells) 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.3 seconds, 0-60 mph (96.5 km/h) in 6.9 seconds TESLA SHARES PLUMMET "Tesla shares plummeted by 13.6% to $608 per share on Monday, dropping 6 percentage points more than the S&P for the day, as plunging oil prices and the continuing coronavirus outbreak weighed on investors." according to CNBC: "The oil price battles between Saudi Arabia and Russia could challenge Tesla’s electric vehicle and solar roof sales in markets where it remains more affordable for people to stick with fossil fuels, and where they are not incentivized to switch to renewables. Historically, when crude oil and gas prices decline, electric vehicle sales -- and solar installations -- slow down." https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/09/tesla-stock-drops-as-cheap-oil-covid-19-challenge-electric-car-sales.html GERMAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY ARIKON WILL BUILD TESLA GIGAFACTORY "Tesla may have plans in mind for its newest factory in the German state of Brandenburg near Berlin, but someone has to actually build the thing. That someone will be German construction company Arikon, according to German news source EFahrer. " writes Clean Technica: "When Tesla needed someone to come in and clear the trees from the construction site, Arikon answered the call, using 36 harvesters and 18 forwarders to complete the work ahead of schedule (and before any more court challenges could materialize). In the process, it created 400 nesting sites nearby. Specialists were brought in to move anthills and relocate reptiles. More than three times as many trees will be planted to offset the loss of trees at the construction site." https://cleantechnica.com/2020/03/06/german-construction-company-arikon-will-build-tesla-gigafactory-in-brandenburg/ OXFORD CITY SIGHTSEEING BUSES ARE GOING ELECTRIC "THE first electric open-top double decker bus has arrived in Oxford – helping to reduce air pollution ahead of the launch of the city's Zero Emission Zone." says local paper Oxford Mail: "The bus is the first of five open-top City Sightseeing Oxford buses, owned by the Oxford Bus Company, that are being retrofitted to electric. The bus company has made an investment of £350,000, including an investment of £80,000 to install the charging equipment for the double decker sightseeing buses, including a battery storage system to harness the energy produced by their solar panels." https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/18292517.oxford-city-sightseeing-buses-going-electric/ EQC BY HOFELE IS BASED ON THE MERCEDES EQC Hofele are launching a new version of the Mercedes Benz EQC, the EQC by HOFELE and the car will come with a number of upgrades, the car was originally going to be unveiled at the cancelled Geneva Motor Show" reports Geeky GAdgets.com: "The EQC by HOFELE gets a range of styling upgrades over the standard car and it also gets some high end ‘Turbine’ wheels and more. The exterior of this EQC has unique HOFELE styling enhancements, subtle in design and detail, but they elevate the standard EQC to the premium luxury class of EV’s. Finished in the very exclusive Mercedes-Benz “Alubeam” paint, often described as “Liquid Metal”, this very expensive paint finish immediately lets us know that this EV is something very special." https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/eqc-by-hofele-is-based-on-the-mercedes-eqc-09-03-2020/ GOODYEAR RECHARGE REGENERATING-TIRE CONCEPT AIMS TO CUT WASTE "Goodyear has developed a "self-generating" design to extend the life of tires, as well as make them more adaptable to different conditions." writes Green Car Reports: "The Goodyear ReCharge tire concept features a tread that can be replenished using fluid-filled capsules. So instead of replacing the whole tire, only the tread is replaced. In a new as-you-drive approach to the idea of the retread tire, the tread compound is made from "biological material" reinforced with fibers based on spider silk, Goodyear said. The compound is completely biodegradable, according to the company. Because the tire is airless, drivers won't have to worry about maintaining pressures or fixing punctures, Goodyear noted." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1127362_goodyear-recharge-regenerating-tire-concept-aims-to-cut-waste THE APEX AP-0 WILL BE A SURPRISINGLY LIGHTWEIGHT EV SPORTS CAR "While most electric supercars have giant batteries, big power and heavy weight figures, the Apex AP-0 will top the scales at just 1200kg. It'll be revealed this Friday" says Car Throttle: " It’s quite the achievement to build an electric car that weighs so little, as even the dinky Skoda Citigo e iV weighs a little bit more than that. You can put that skinny figure down to extensive use of carbon fibre in the chassis. There’s not much in the way of power or performance details yet, but it should be able to get close to the Apex AP-1 model revealed last year. That car used a 2.3-litre Ford EcoBoost engine out of the Focus ST and Mustang, and pushed out almost 400bhp for a 0-62mph time of just 2.5 seconds. With all the electric motor’s torque available instantly, we’d think that the electric AP-0 could match this figure. " https://www.carthrottle.com/post/the-apex-ap-0-will-be-a-surprisingly-lightweight-ev-sports-car/ NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week… Why do you think Tesla are quietly delivering the Model Y without the usual fanfare?
Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast
We're back for episode 110! This week we're joined once again by Ben from Pencil's Ballercast, and we start off with an argument on how to pronounce the video game title 'FORZA', before covering off our topics for this week's episode. We start off by briefly talking about the class action case against Toyota and their Hilux and the issues surrounding the Diesel Particulate Filter issues, before tangenting into a bit of news from Joseph about a survey about road conditions around Australia; Sydney being considered the worst, followed by Brisbane. Joseph then has some news about the 2020 Ford Mustang, with Ford trying to make the EcoBoost more enticing for the 2020 model year.... By increasing the price by $1,000 and adding 7nm of torque as well as new wheels. Then Joseph brings up even more news, this time about BMW announcing its plans to kill of models, including the new Z4. Then we talk about Joseph's family's new Swift that Matt only just noticed, CVT's, and Mitch complains about the Mitsubishi ASX. Then Mitch talks about what he's done to his Hilux this week, specifically the install of an Ebay-special snorkel, and a Uniden UHF. Ben, on the behalf of his dad Paul, asks us to recommend a 'warm' hatch, we immediately jump to the Hyundai N-Line, and learn that the Focus ST is still a thing, which blows Matt's mind. Mitch then has a discussion topic about the HSV SportsCat having AP Racing brakes, and whether it makes sense for the type of vehicle the SportsCat is. Matt then starts a game of 'Would You Rather', before we break into Matt's decade game. This episode is one of those gemlike objects. .45 Phil and Mike the Mic join host Justin Fort to work over the 2014 San Diego Auto Show, and on the way they have a very sincere conversation about the resurgent troubles facing the residents of Iraq, as related by a 27-year Marine who spent half a year in Fallujah (our very own .45 Phil).
