Self-Awareness is a reflective process for assessing behavior, not just for self-improvement, but how our actions impact those around us. Muirhead et al (2020) research on intersectionality theoretical framework consists of the interconnectedness of race, gender, class, privilege, and disadvantage of individuals' that provide meaning and significance to these social elements by acknowledging the complexity of the human experience. In this Learn Series Part 1, we will deeply dive into Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) in Learning Environments in the State of Florida. Dehumanizing Florida legislative laws that have impacted what is being taught in the classrooms in Florida is not only impacting the students and their families but school administrators, educators, and administrative and support staff in Florida that are being adopted by other states in the United States to duplicate. What to expect in this Learn Series: We will give you the background legislative laws that have been enacted in Florida We will give examples of the actions being taken by these laws on Critical Race Theory, Inclusion, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) We will discuss how the Safer Communities Act 2022 addresses Mental Health in Schools. Still, Florida State Legislators' perspectives and legislation are disconnected from the link between Mental Health and SEL. We will discuss the research from expert and theoretical frameworks We will introduce Self-Awareness and Self-Management Strategies to help with Self-Reflection We will invite everyone to what you can do to become an advocate and practitioner of Social and Emotional Learning for others to take responsibility for the same. Meet Elaine M. Brannon Breast Cancer Survivor and Founder + Director of Revivals Health and Wellness Council Come virtual meet and celebrate with Elaine on October 23, 2021, for the 1st Virtual Breast Cancer Awareness Survivors' Luncheon! To learn more and purchase tickets visit: Revivals Health & Wellness Council | Breast Cancer Survivors' Luncheon Courageous Conversations with Therese W Gamble powered by Concierge Resource Professional Consultants is a supporter of Revivals Health and Wellness as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization. At 36 years old, Elaine McGraw Brannon detected a lump in her breast during a self examination. This was not uncommon. She experienced a thickening of breast tissue (also known as Fibrosis) since she had breasts, which would subside within a few days. She informed her doctor and expected the lump to be gone prior to her previously scheduled appointment. It was not. Her doctor immediately referred her to a surgeon having experienced a similar situation with his wife and mother. With only a 10-month residency in her community and no family other than her husband, Elaine went into full faith mode knowing she faced navigating a health system that was unfamiliar. She asked God to provide her with a relay team of professionals, reflecting on her high school track days. Within the month, the baton had been handed to a radical surgeon and Elaine was diagnosed with breast cancer. Elaine's faith was a perfect match with the surgeon's mode of practice. For five years, she endured a series of surgeries, followed by aggressive treatments and medication therapy. As a licensed Social Worker with 15 years experience at the time, Elaine and her family watched her own case plan form and unfold. Elaine was determined to be grateful for the technology afforded to her and not dread any tests, but view them as an opportunity to see God's handiwork. On days when she did not feel well, she forced herself to think on the things that God instructed through the Apostle Paul; things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, excellent, or praiseworthy. Elaine met others who were involved with breast cancer awareness and advocates for patient's rights and services. She volunteered for several organizations, but her Social Work mind reflected on the gap in services to survivors. She observed that survivors knew more about their diagnosis and its side effects, than they did about their God-given strength to overcome; and their potential to help others in more ways than awareness and advocacy. Her breast cancer journey led her to establish Revivals Health & Wellness Council, to support breast cancer survivors now by celebrating wellness while other great organizations advocate and search for a cure. The Annual Keeping the Faith Breast Cancer Survivors Luncheon and the Survivors' Birthday Club are the foundation of this celebration culture using music, movement, and humor, which studies show are effective antidepressants. In addition, as a Social Worker on Demand, she uses her administrative and clinical skills to offer resources and case management. Elaine M. Brannon is a Licensed Master Social Worker whose career spans over 35 years; with 9 years as a professor of Introduction to Social Work and Crisis Intervention classes. She currently serves as the sole Social Worker at a Rural Critical Access Hospital. She is the Founder and Director of Revivals Health & Wellness Council and is a breast cancer survivor. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/courageouscultureconvo/message

The CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises collaborated with MBE Capital Partners to offer $100 million in loans to minority- and women-owned companies hurt by stay-at-home orders due to Covid-19. The loans were funded through Johnson's EquiTrust Life Insurance Company and will be provided through the Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program. “This will allow them to keep their employees and keep their doors open,” Johnson told CNBC's “Squawk Box” on Tuesday. But even with new money available, African-American and Latino-owned businesses have been left out of the new PPP funds due to a lack of relationships with bigger banks. Democratic lawmakers including Sen. Kamala Harris of California have even called on the SBA and Treasury Department to ensure minority-owned businesses are not shut out of aid. But with financial help limited, some businesses are in jeopardy of closing for good.. Therese W.
