Welcome to our 300th episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice, and we can't think of a better guest to share the milestone episode with than Rahal Ducati Moto's Kayla Yaakov. When we started this podcast in 2018, Yaakov was 11 years old and now she's a top-level racer in the MotoAmerica Supersport Championship. Yaakov has moved up through the MotoAmerica ranks quickly, beginning in Mini Cup before a move to Junior Cup, Twins Cup and now to Supersport. She's only one step away from being a Superbike racer, which is her goal. Yaakov finished seventh in her rookie season of Supersport racing with two podiums, including a second-place finish at Ridge Motorsports Park. Fresh from off-season knee surgery, Yaakov allowed us to take her away from her schoolwork to chat on the 300th Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the show

This should be fun, as i'm stoked to get to talk to Rocco Landers again now that the season has ended. Rocco had double-duty this season yet again, but this time it was Twins Cup and Baggers. In Twins he rode the new Suzuki GS-8R, while in Baggers he rode a Harley Road Glide.. both of these bikes were sponsored by Revzilla / Vance & Hines. Rocco Landers can breathe easy for the first time in his short but successful career as he will show up to Daytona International Speedway with a contract to race for one of the best teams in the paddock - Vance & Hines Motorsports. Landers, who at just 19 has 48 MotoAmerica wins (29 in Junior Cup, 15 in Twins Cup and four in Supersport) on his resume, will make his debut in the Mission King Of The Baggers class on a RevZilla/Mission/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson at Daytona while also hoping to continue his previous success in the BellissiMoto Twins Cup Series on a new RevZilla/Mission/Vance & Hines Suzuki GSX-8R. We chatted with Landers on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice to chat about all that and more.Support the show
Seventeen-year-old Blake Davis isn't messing around. The Virginian started his MotoAmerica career as soon as he turned 14, making his debut at Road Atlanta with a ninth-place finish. Davis finished 10th in the 2020 Junior Cup Championship and was eighth in the 2021 title chase. But it mattered not. Although Davis didn't win a race and didn't win a title, hanging around in Junior Cup wasn't in his plan so he jumped up to Twins Cup and won the title in his first attempt. This past season he defended that title but now it's on to bigger things as he moves up to Supersport. We talked to the talented youngster on this week's Off Track With Carruthers And Bice podcast to learn more about his rapid ascension and a goal of being MotoAmerica Superbike Champion.Support the show

On this episode of "It's a Bit" presented by 10K Takes: Bossman, JJ, Wags, and Producer Cam recap the Twins Cup Snake and the 2nd annual 10K Invitational over the past weekend. We also give our bits of the week including the "Drunko Bell" bit. Lastly we bring back our controversial segement, CANCELED, where we take turns cancelling things we do not like.
Anthony Mazziotto and Jody Barry are separated by just one point in the battle for the MotoAmerica REV'IT! Twins Cup Championship going into this weekend's round at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. So, in classic “hold my beer and watch this” fashion, Carruthers and Bice came up with the idea of having the two on the same podcast, separated by mere inches and on video. What could be better for podcast downloads than a good old-fashioned brawl between bitter rivals. Well, as it turns out, there wasn't a brawl on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice. Just a nice conversation between two young men trying to win the same championship.Support the show
We sometimes forget that Rocco Landers is just 17 years old. Perhaps that stems from the fact that the "kid" has been winning in the MotoAmerica Championship since he was 14. And he's done quite well, thank you very much. How well? How about 40 total victories: 29 in Junior Cup, nine in Twins Cup and, thanks to his two wins at Brainerd International Raceway last weekend, two in Supersport. Those wins earned him two Junior Cup Championships and a Twins Cup title before he departed for the intense battles of the Supersport class. We also talk about the unusual circumstances of being at motorcycle races held under the restrictions required because of the current COVID-19 pandemic. And we talk about Kaleb’s prior racing experiences, his recovery from a serious crash at an AFM race event at Thunderhill Raceway Park in 2019, and also the YouTube channel and videos that he and his girlfriend produce together to help promote motorcycle road racing and MotoAmerica. Stay tuned as I will be doing as many of these podcast recordings as possible using Facebook Live on Wednesday nights at 8 pm ET and I will of course continue to make the audio portion available via this podcast. This episode is a special show in which MotoAmerica Twins Cup racer Chris Bays joins me and leads a really informative and entertaining discussion with his Twins Cup racing buddies, who of course also happen to be his competitors, Robby Cichielo Jr., Jason Madama, Jackson Blackmon and Cooper McDonald. We talk a little about each rider’s racing resume, the specifications for Twins Cup bikes and the models that are most commonly used, the riders to watch this season, and each racer’s predictions for who is going to be up on the podium this weekend at the season opening round at Road America in Wisconsin. I think this discussion really helps to highlight how the sport of motorcycle racing can simultaneously foster great friendships in the paddock and awesome competition out on the track once the flag drops. It also provides some insights into how a motorcyclist who is interested in becoming a professional motorcycle road racer can get started in the MotoAmerica Twins Cup series. Chris Parrish won the inaugural MotoAmerica Twins Cup Championship in 2018 and ended up fourth in the series standings in 2019. For 2020, the Tennessean will be armed with Andy Palmer Yamahas and ready for an all-out assault on recapturing his crown. We took Parrish away from working on his bikes at Palmer's shop in Minnesota to chat with Carruthers and Bice for this week's Off Track Podcast. In this episode I have a really cool chat with Robby Cichielo Jr, in which we discuss how he got into motorcycling, why he prefers riding on the track, and the amazing experiences he has had as an endurance racer, as a racer in the MotoAmerica Twins Cup Series, and as an instructor and coach for N2 Track Days. We also talk about how motorcycles are the great equalizer and how motorcycling brings people together from all kinds of backgrounds and all walks of life. The shared love of motorcycles and motorcycling seems to know no boundaries and melts away differences in gender, race, religion, nationality, economics and the other things that sometimes put up barriers between people. In a nutshell, when true motorcyclists put on their gear and throw a leg over their bike, they are all very much of the same heart and spirit, and they all share a very special bond, one with another. We talk about Robby's experience riding motorcycles, including starting on a Suzuki SV650 at age 14, about 13 years ago. He had a Suzuki GSX-R for a while and eventually bought back his original SV650, which then led to getting started racing in the MotoAmerica Twins Cup Series. We go over how Twins Cup is very much a builder series and how riders and mechanics take bikes like the SV650 and other street bikes which are really designed and intended to be daily commuters and turn them into race machines with souped-up motors and more torque. We also talk about how Robby had to learn how to race the SV650, as it's not a pure race bike and requires a slightly different technique. And we talk about Robby's experience in endurance racing as a member of the 4 Dudes on a Twin race team. I also mention that now that I have read quite a few books about motorcycles and riding technique, I decided it is time to put my understanding to the test and see how well I can apply what I've learned. That's why I want to start riding on the track, and why I recently signed up for the 2-Day Camp with California Superbike School at New Jersey Motorsports Park in May 2020. Robby talks about the fact that often it is easier to teach less experienced street riders good riding technique on the track, as they haven't developed a lot of bad habits that can be hard to get people to break. He sometimes runs into "beginner techniques" that are taught in some basic rider training classes that then have to be unlearned. On the same theme, we talk about how strider bikes have been a great improvement over the bicycles with training wheels that many of us had when we learned to ride on two wheels, as strider bikes are two wheel vehicles and behave like two wheel vehicles, so kids learn balance and counter-steering. Whereas tricycles and bicycles with training wheels behave differently and don't teach the skills needed to ride a two wheeled vehicle. Robby and I also touch upon how buying and owning good, quality riding or track gear is an investment in yourself! In this episode I have a really cool chat with MotoAmerica racer Chris Bays who started riding motorcycles on the street about 15 years ago and has been racing motorcycles for the last 5 years at the club and professional levels. While he still likes the idea of riding on the street, Chris’ attention is fully focused on his racing these days. As he mentions in this episode, once he got bitten by the racing bug, he just couldn’t not race. I’m sure that anyone that has been bitten by the motorcycle bug will understand. Once you’re hooked, you’re hooked! This episode is also the perfect opportunity to announce this podcast’s official sponsorship of Chris Bays and the Number 621 RBoM Racing Suzuki SV650 in the remainder of the MotoAmerica Twins Cup Championship season. So, fire up the MotoAmerica Live+ streaming app or surf on over to Chris’ social media, or to my podcast’s social media and check out the podcast stickers on the racing livery for Chris’ bike. To help celebrate this new partnership, I am also excited to announce that Bays Racing and this podcast have teamed up to give away one free general admission ticket to see MotoAmerica racing live. The ticket can be used at one of the remaining MotoAmerica rounds in this 2019 season either in Pittsburgh, New Jersey or Alabama. Stayed tuned until the end of the episode for details on how you can enter to win.
