Episode 339 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Andy Palmer, serial entrepreneur, seed investor, and now author. Andy is one of my OG's, that being original guests. If you go way back into the archives of The VentureFizz Podcast, you'll find my first interview with him for Episode #22 back in 2018. In that interview, we talk about his full background story, his career building companies like Tamr & Vertica, plus investing in companies. For this interview, Andy and I connected for a different reason. This was the third session of the day from our Artemis London 2022 conference, held on September 6th, 2022.  The event was Artemis' first insurance-linked securities (ILS) conference held in the City of London and saw more than 240 attendees enjoy a wide-range of sessions and networking opportunities.  Themed largely around the catastrophe bond, attendees heard from expert speakers that have been in the sector for years, as well as newcomers with ideas of how to innovate the cat bond and ILS market going forwards.  Attendees came from as far afield as New Zealand, Hawaii, Asia, North and South America, Bermuda, as well as a large European contingent, plus as you'd expect numerous London marketplace leaders in ILS and reinsurance.  This third video from the event features a panel discussion on environmental, social and governance (ESG) trends in the catastrophe bond market, under the title of "ESG in the cat bond market. The automotive industry is changing fast — and we're not just talking about the pandemic. The electric vehicle revolution is going to be a shift as monumental as when cars first began selling on the market. There's no one who knows this better than Andy Palmer, also known as the “Godfather of the EV.” As the former COO of Nissan, Andy led the Nissan Leaf project, which became the world's first mass-market EV, and has continued to work in new energy vehicles and batteries throughout his career. During his 42 year career, he rose to almost the very top of the Nissan C-suite, where he introduced a raft of vehicles, including the Nissan Leaf EV and the e-NV200 electric taxi. He subsequently spent six years as the CEO of Aston Martin, where he campaigned for the Rapide E high-performance EV, and is now the CEO of electric bus maker Switch Mobility.Andy Palmer is a long-standing advocate of clean zero emission mobility. But more than that, he's a proponent of net carbon zero. And that's the focus of this episode: it's not enough to produce zero emission vehicles—to make an impact, he says, you have to be a net zero hero, and that means your vehicles have to be net carbon zero.
