Spiritual bypassing usesa. Can be in reference to justifying your non-action and passivity in certain, unjust situations. There are times to spread love and light, but there are times to speak up and stand against wrong. Instead of using spiritual terms as a defense mechanism to avoid issues, discernment is key in analyzing our intentions.b. Can also be used to describe people who are skipping and expediting their spiritual journey. People who have been practicing for a week and claim they are enlightened are most likely misinterpreting some teachings as it requires long term detachment.2. There is no need to feel like an imposter about practicing ancient teachings because you are not from India. The vedas were not made for one, specific people, but rather all beings. Be true and honest in your journey and recognize that you will always be a student, regardless of how advanced your senior status may be and proudly say you are still learning. Imposter syndrome arises when we erase our roots and attempt to hide how we have learned. It's okay to not know everything and still need to look at texts or consult another yogi.3. Discernment calls for us to be careful of what our sources are and to step back to pause and assess our situations. Be cautious of harmful intentions and misinformation and instead reflect on what you feel is needed. With discernment comes wisdom. This ties into self care and daily examples such as, "Do I really need to be getting drunk tonight, or should I be eating simple food, drinking hot water, and going to bed early?" Acharya Shunya is a truth-teller who facilitates authenticity, self-remembrance, and divine feminine pathways to awakening. After centuries of living in patriarchal societies, many women don't realize how powerful they are—or how much they've been enculturated to keep their true nature hidden. In Roar Like a Goddess, trailblazing Vedic spiritual teacher Acharya Shunya empowers women everywhere to step into their divine immensity and lead powerful, abundant, and wise lives through her revolutionary revisioning of ancient India's primary goddess archetypes: The Goddess Durga—A role model who vanquishes internalized misogyny and institutionalized patriarchy, Durga teaches you how to take back your full feminine power. The Goddess Lakshmi—Known for her beauty and generous spirit, Lakshmi guides you to cultivate unshakable inner contentment and soul-aligned abundance. The Goddess Saraswati—The ultimate teacher of our most profound journey to Self, Saraswati illuminates the gifts of wisdom, peace, and inner freedom. Sharing classic myths, original insights, and empowering practices, Shunya offers a profound process for awakening the many faces of the goddess within. Episode Highlights: * Why Women's Anger is Sacred and why we must learn to express it * How the Goddesses can serve as inspiration for modern feminism * One of the most fundamental aspects of self-empowerment is cultivating a healthy sense of self-worth. * How the goddesses teach us to love ourselves * Acharya's journey as a spiritual teacher who became the head of a 2,000-year-old lineage. * How she walks the line of being bold in her assertions, as well as inclusive in her teachings * Why we should encourage the carnal pursuit of pleasure * Similar to the pursuit of sex, we — particularly as women — are taught that the goal of material wealth is “non-spiritual,” but this is not true * Why women's power is not always available uniformly, and how can it be accessed from within. The first female lineage-holder of her distinguished Vedic tradition, Acharya Shunya is an internationally renowned scholar, teacher, author, speaker, and scholar of nondual wisdom (Advaita) from India and a classically-trained master of Yoga and Ayurveda. She is the Founder of The Awakened Self Foundation and the nonprofit Vedika Global, Inc., platforms headquartered in Northern California that empower, educate, and inspire a global community of students through online courses, workshops, and retreats. These conversations are furthered by Shunya's top-rated podcast, “Shadow To Self.” An award-winning author of international repute, Shunya's most recent book, Roar Like a Goddess: Every Woman's Guide to Becoming Unapologetically Powerful, Prosperous, and Peaceful, was published by Sounds True in September 2022 and is now available worldwide.

On episode 71 of Outside The Studio: What does it mean to roar like a goddess? It begins with self respect. Acharya Shunya and Tessa discuss goddess theory, the story of Shiva and Shakti, and what our divinity really consists of. Acharya Shunya is a truth-teller, awakener, motivational speaker, and spiritual coach. She is the author of several books including Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom and Sovereign Self and Roar Like a Goddess. Timestamps (00:30) Who is Acharya Shunya? What does her name mean? (02:35) What is goddess archetype theory? (05:50) Who are the goddesses in archetype theory? (14:50) What is patriarchy (22:30) The story of Shiva and Shakti (31:15) Acharya's mother teaching how to roar through stories (33:30) How to embody self respect (38:45) Put your hands on your heart (42:20) Acharya's arranged marriage (49:15) One thing to get from roar like a goddess Key Takeaways 1. Acharya Shunya's book follows goddess theory consisting of three parts: Goddess Durga, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswati. Durga focuses on taking back our full feminine power, Lakshmi guides on cultivating inner contentment, while Saraswati illuminates the gifts of wisdom and inner freedom. 2. When Shakti says, in the myth Shunya tells, "I will stay your daughter until you respect me" we soon find that Shakti does not find respect. Shakti then burns the threads of attachment and transforms into her true form. This shows us how we must access our own rage, rather than always being too accommodating and pleasing; we must stand for ourselves. 3. To find respect, we must first start with respecting ourselves. We may find ourselves keeping a list of our failures, but we need to look at the bigger context of our divinity, which includes those failures. There is the sunrise with the sunset, youth with old age. Radical wholeness is the divine goddess Shakti. Meet Acharya Shunya   Acharya Shunya is a truth-teller who facilitates authenticity, self-remembrance, and divine feminine pathways to awakening within. The first female head of her 2,000-year-old Indian spiritual lineage, Shunya reinterprets and re-contextualizes ancient teachings for modern times, empowering people everywhere to lead fearless, fulfilled, and enlightened lives. She is president of the Awakened Self Foundation and founder of Vedika Global, Inc. in California. She is the author of the bestselling books Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom and Sovereign Self and her newest book, Roar Like a Goddess. She lives in Northern California.   Let me tell you, my friend, that this conversation brought me to tears. Acharya Shunya is a powerful example of a pure embodiment of the divine feminine and goddess energy and is full of cosmic wisdom and universal truths. I'm so excited to share much of our conversation here. I hope you'll tune in -- you'll certainly be touched, moved, and inspired. Perhaps you'll be moved to tears too, like yours truly. Enjoy!     Celebrating the Divine Feminine   Acharya Shunya was taught early on by her grandfather, a master teacher, that she would head the lineage even though she is a female. She was told this at nine years old and learned at a young age that this would be her path and dharma, regardless of her gender. She would be the first head of her lineage in over 2,000 years and begin to change the ancient custom and weave in the power of bringing in the divine feminine and teachings of the Goddess.   Unconditional Self-Respect   Acharya Shunya teaches in her book, Roar Like A Goddess, that part of our learning is to see ourselves like the divine, which means creating non-negotiable respect and safety for ourselves. It's important to remember that even in the darkest moments, we are connected to the divine light. Our goal is not just to speak and proclaim our self-respect but to know it and embody this unconditional self-love and respect.  The Power of Shakti   There is only one Goddess force in the Vedic tradition, which is called Shakti. Shakti in Sanskrit means power. This all-encompassing feminine power invites, rather than destroys, builds rather than tears down. The three aspects of Shakti are exemplified through the three Goddesses: Durga, Saraswati, and Lakshmi. Acharya Shunya teaches how to connect to the powerful energy, lessons, and wisdom of each Goddess. Here's a quick overview to give you a taste of their universal teachings for a beautiful life: 1) Durga - Durga gives you permission to own your power and shed fear. She is all about getting in touch with your power within and expressing what Shunya calls 'righteous rage'. This is a highly conscious rage that can stem from years and lifetimes of being marginalized and overlooked. Durga is about cutting through fear. 2) Saraswati - Saraswati is all about knowingness and discernment. This energy asks you to discern what is a minor matter and/or what is a world manner. She helps you to convert trauma into growth for greater transformation and healthy, full expression of your potentiality. 3) Lakshmi - Lakshmi is all about the heart, love, playfulness, rest, and prosperity. She is anchored in conscious behavior, not just a scripted way of being. Her energy reminds us to play, connect to our sexuality and sensuality, find balance and enjoy the fullness of life.   Roar Like a Goddess   It's time to connect to the Goddess energy, frequency, and wisdom. First, you must roar with courage. Next, you must roar with fullness, balance, and abundance. We all need to roar with healing, higher consciousness, and compassion. May you be inspired by Acharya Shunya's example of what's possible for women and all of humanity, and may you roar like a Goddess! Final Thoughts Acharya Shunya shines her light for all of us to see the goddess within us. It is the goddess energy where we find the courage to create non-negotiable respect and safety for ourselves. Diwali (Dīpāvalī दीपावली) is the time of the year to supersede our personal limitations, and enliven the light of consciousness that is the basis of all existence. AKA the Festival of Lights, it is perhaps the most famous Vedic festival of the year. In Sanskrit “Dīpāvalī” means “a row of earthen lit lamps.”On this new moon night, you will see India or Indian communities abroad lit up with lights. Light signifies purity, knowledge and auspiciousness.Lighting the “diya” (earthen lit lamp) guides us through the darkness to seek the eternal truth in our own personal lives. In the battle between light and darkness (jyoti and tamas), knowledge and ignorance (vidya and avidya), we must awaken and utilise what is offered on Diwali to leap beyond our ordinary boundaries rooted in ignorance and fear. We can awaken an inner transformative power in our devotion to the highest excellence within us. This is known as “Sri Rama” in the Vedas.May the light in your life, pure consciousness, shine on you and reflect with your flavour of radiance onto all others to enhance peace and abundance for the whole world to enjoy.IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

We can transform our health when we follow the holistic approach of Aryurveda, the world's oldest healing system, which focuses on mind, body, spirit and the 5 senses. In this episode Ananta Ripa Ajmera shares that health is our birthright - our true nature - and shares numerous practices from her book The Ayurveda Way: 108 Practices from the World's Oldest Healing System for Better Sleep, Less Stress, Optimal Digestion, and More. Ananta brings home the idea that true health focuses on so much more than just our body and definitely includes elements of "healthy selfishness" and cultivating a relationship with our own higher selves.  Ananta Ripa Ajmera is committed to making Ayurveda understandable and applicable to a diverse, modern audience. She teaches Ayurveda lifestyle, stress management, and meditation at yoga and business conferences and for clients including ABC News, Stanford University, and the California probation departments. Ajmera studied yoga and Ayurveda with Acharya Shunya and serves as Branding and Yoga Studies Director for Vedika Global, Acharya Shunya’s school. Her writing is popular on MindBodyGreen, Elephant Journal, and The Huffington Post. Nuggets of Wisdom from Ananta: "When you sow a thought, you reap an action. When you sow an action, you reap a habit. You sow a habit, you reap a character. And when you sow a character, you reap a destiny." ~the Upanishads "We are so often taught to believe that everything worth having in this life is somewhere outside, and it has to be attained by doing something. By affirming that actually everything that I am searching for lies within me, it's just a very empowering way to start the day." "Ayurveda is the science of life. It is as old as life itself. Ayurveda looks at four dimensions of the human being: the body, mind, spirit, and the five senses." "Ayurveda is defined as that science which teaches us how to distinguish between those actions that bring us joy and those that bring us sorrow. Because joy-filled actions are what give us health, and, you know, they define the joy-giving actions as those that benefit not only ourselves but others, so, compassion and service are actually an inherent part of the practice and lifestyle of Ayurveda." "Health is your birthright. Health is your true nature. And I think, for me, being able to connect with that and being able to connect with the idea of freeing my spirit has been the key to developing the willpower and the strength to be able to make diet and lifestyle changes which Ayurveda recommends for being able to bring my body then into balance. For me the suffering that I had really started in my mind. And it started from just being disconnected." "We kind of know that certain habits are not helpful for us. We know better, but we don't do better." "Go slow. Really go slow and make anything that you choose sustainable." Some of Ananta's Favorite Things: Personal habit: "Waking up early by 6 o'clock in the morning." Easy meal: "Khichadi. It is an extremely healthy recipe, and it's really delicious, and it is something that is particularly good in detoxing the body, so it's great in the spring season." Favorite kitchen gadget: Magic Bullet blender. Emma's Favorite Books: "Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom: A Complete Prescription to Optimize Your Health, Prevent Disease, and Live with Vitality and Joy" Best advice received: "Give when feeling full." Ananta's Happiness Formula: "I'm happiest when I listen to my intuition." A Challenge from Ananta: "To really contemplate one thing that you would like to start to incorporate into your life to benefit your health, body, mind, and your spirit. And really think it through before you commit to it. So, don't make it like a New Year's resolution, but really commit to a mindful intention or resolution that you want to do. And then I challenge you to write it down, and then make that your first step to manifesting whatever your intention is, and revisit it, and rewrite it, and really, you know, take that one thing and plant it like a seed in the garden of your mind, and see what kind of beautiful flowers start to grow in your life as a result." Aired Wednesday, 12 April 2017, 8:00 PM ET Acharya Shunya - Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom I first heard about Ayurveda, the ancient Indian spiritual healing wisdom, when I started practicing yoga in my late 30’s. It sounded mysterious, far away, and something that would have little relevance to my 1980’s New York lifestyle. As they say, with age (and experience) comes wisdom and for those with open minds and open hearts, new pathways and possibilities. It also brings new opportunities to meet and learn from wonderful teachers. This week on Destination Unlimited, we have the privilege and pleasure of welcoming one such teacher, Acharya Shunya, who will share her heritage, wisdom and her new book, Ayurveda Lifestyle Wisdom: A Complete Prescription to Optimize Your Health, Prevent Disease, and Live with Vitality and Joy.
