Ideal for those seeking holistic burnout recovery.05:04 A deep dive into how gas, bloating, and stomach pain are biologically linked to worry, fear, and paranoia, showing how physical symptoms mirror mental states.12:42 Natalie explains why treating only emotions or only the body felt "incomplete," and why a truly holistic system is required for transformational healing.19:32 An explanation of Agni (Digestive Fire). When most people think of alchemy, they imagine a medieval wizard desperately trying to turn lead into gold. But the real story of alchemy is far stranger and far more important because hidden within those mysterious experiments were the early discoveries that would eventually become modern chemistry. In this episode of For the Love of History, we explore the origins of alchemy and how early experiments in metallurgy, medicine, and chemistry shaped the scientific world we know today. What began as practical craft knowledge in ancient Egypt and Greece eventually evolved into a global intellectual tradition spanning the Islamic Golden Age, Indian Rasashastra, and Daoist alchemy in China. Along the way we meet some of the most influential figures in early scientific history. You'll hear about Zosimos of Panopolis, one of the earliest recorded alchemists, and Maria the Jewess, a pioneering woman whose inventions helped shape laboratory techniques still used in chemistry today. We'll also explore the work of Jabir ibn Hayyan, whose writings during the Islamic Golden Age helped transform alchemy into a more systematic scientific practice. From ancient alchemy recipes found in Egyptian papyri to the global exchange of scientific knowledge across continents, this episode uncovers how centuries of curiosity about matter and transformation eventually led to the birth of modern chemistry. The story of alchemy isn't just about gold—it's about humanity's earliest attempts to understand the building blocks of the universe. In This Episode

Note: You don't have to use all of these ingredients to make the sedimentary layers. You might have some tastier ideas you'd like to try. Place the biscuits or cookies on a chopping board or in a bowl and make biscuit crumbs by crushing the biscuits with the back of a large spoon. Make layers of the ingredients in the glass or tumbler, by adding the ingredients one layer at a time. Start by covering the bottom of the glass with biscuit crumbs. Add a layer of custard or pudding, a layer of chopped fruit and a few sprinkles. Repeat the layers, starting again with biscuit crumbs, and keep adding layers until you are happy with your sedimentary layer dessert. Use a small spoon to dig into the layers and eat your dessert. You can travel back in time to a few minutes ago when you added the first layer of biscuit crumbs! Sedimentary layers form when small pieces of rock, sand, and soil settle on top of each other. The layers can also include left over material from plants and animals. As more and more layers are buried, pressure and time causes solid rock to form, and this type of rock is called ‘sedimentary rock'.

Embracing the Power of Surrender in the Bhagavad GitaWelcome to "Wisdom for the Ages." In the climactic final teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna reveals the ultimate path to freedom, a concept encapsulated in a single, powerful Sanskrit word: Sharanagati. This is more than just a philosophical idea; it is a systematic path for transforming our consciousness, a direct response to the profound despair and confusion that gripped Arjuna on the battlefield. It is the secret to moving from anxiety-ridden effort to a life of grace, purpose, and love. What You'll Discover in This Episode:In this episode, we explore Sharanagati, the art and science of complete surrender as taught by Shri Krishna. We'll unpack why this teaching is considered "the most confidential of all" and how it resolves the timeless struggle between human effort and divine will. You will be guided through the six distinct stages of Sharanagati, a practical framework for anyone seeking to apply these profound truths in modern life. We will discuss:Accepting what is pleasing to the divine will (Anukulyasya Sankalpa).Rejecting what is displeasing (Pratikulyasya Varjana).Cultivating unshakeable faith that the divine will protect you (Raksisyatiti Visvasa).Formally accepting God as your protector (Goptrtve Varana). The act of complete self-offering (Atma-niksepa).Embracing total dependence and humility (Karpanya). Why Listen Now?Do you ever feel that your spiritual practices lead to more striving than peace? The path of Sharanagati dismantles this paradigm. It reveals how the power of surrender liberates us from the anxiety of outcomes. We'll explore the deep psychology behind this teaching, connecting it to the modern concept of "secure attachment". When we truly understand that we are the recipients of unconditional divine love, our actions cease to be fueled by fear and instead become joyful expressions of gratitude. This is the promise of Sharanagati—a shift from seeking love to realizing you are already beloved, transforming every part of your life.krsnadaasa (Servant of Krishna)

In this episode, I sit down with Joachim Tantau–a cabinetmaker, artist, teacher, and occasional architect to explore the quiet power of sacred geometry. Joachim works at the intersection of tradition, craftsmanship, and cosmic math. His approach to design isn't just about aesthetics, it's about uncovering the fundamental order embedded in nature, music, architecture, and even the movements of planets. We talk about how flowers, planets, and buildings all share hidden proportional systems; why the Golden Ratio keeps showing up in history and design; and how ancient builders created structures more efficient-and more awe-inspiring-than much of what we build today. We also dig into why beauty is not just a luxury, but a basic human need.If you've ever felt like modern buildings don't quite “speak” to you, this might explain why.CHAPTERS00:00 The Role of Sacred Geometry in Design03:12 Exploring Sacred Geometry08:30 Understanding Sacred Geometry13:27 The Intersection of Geometry and Music17:03 Sacred Geometry in Architecture27:16 The Importance of Beauty in Design39:01 Geometry in Modern Engineering48:53 Rediscovering Wonder in the Modern World54:09 The Distinction Between Pleasure and Enjoyment01:00:17 Connecting Architecture with Nature and Geometry01:06:04 Ancient Architecture and Cosmic Proportions01:11:10 Teaching Sacred Geometry in Design01:17:26 Practical Applications of Sacred Geometry in ArchitectureCONNECT WITH JOACHIM:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joachimtantau/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/JoachimTantauLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joachim-tantau-53849055Website: https://www.joachimtantau.com/home.html MENTIONED RESOURCES:The Hidden Geometry of Flowers: Living Rhythms, Form and Number by Keith Critchlow: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12293965-the-hidden-geometry-of-flowers The Dimensions of Paradise: Sacred Geometry, Ancient Science, and the Heavenly Order on Earth by John Michell : https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1443804.The_Dimensions_of_Paradise Sacred Art in East and West by Titus Burckhardt: https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/371784.Sacred_Art_in_East_and_West_1st_Edition CONNECT WITH AUSTIN TUNNELLNewsletter: https://playbook.buildingculture.com/ https://www.instagram.com/austintunnell/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/austin-tunnell-2a41894a/ https://twitter.com/AustinTunnellCONNECT WITH BUILDING CULTUREhttps://www.buildingculture.com/ https://www.instagram.com/buildingculture/ https://twitter.com/build_culture https://www.facebook.com/BuildCulture/ SPONSORSThank you so much to the sponsors of The Building Culture Podcast!Sierra Pacific Windows: https://www.sierrapacificwindows.com/ One Source Windows: https://onesourcewindows.com/

We wrap up season 8 with Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary and her powerful, dynamic conversation with Sharon. Dr Chaudhary is a neurologist, neuroscientist, and Ayurvedic practitioner. She combines modern neuroscience with ancient wisdom. She also coaches executives of large corporations on how to connect. Dr. Chaudhary completed the Hoffman Process in 2022. She shares a powerful, pivotal moment from her Process. She was paired up with another student which provided the perfect invitation to be - messy. As she tells us, she's been trained to keep things clean in her life and work. But at this moment, she let go. Kulreet shares, "I don't think I have ever been that emotionally messy in my entire adult life." She tells us that because of her willingness to let go fully into her emotional messiness, she also found a freedom she'd never felt before as an adult. After she completed the Process, Dr. Chaudhary dove into the Hoffman practices and tools. For about six months, she embraced a daily practice to deepen the transformation that had happened during her Process. It is hard to describe what happened to Kulreet after working with the tools and practices diligently. What stands out is how in the moment of incredible transformation and healing, Kulreet was holding herself in a profound, unwavering, self-love. As she held herself in the radiance of this self-love, the darkness that she thought was within her shattered. It wasn't at all what she'd thought it was. This is the raw power of self-love. We hope you enjoy and find benefit from this profound conversation with Kulreet and Sharon. We'll see you again in the second half of August for our next series of conversations. Ancient Greece is often considered to be the birthplace of science and medicine, and the explanation of natural phenomena without recourse to supernatural causes. The early natural philosophers - lovers of wisdom concerning nature - sought to explain the order and composition of the world, and how we come to know it. They were particularly interested in what exists and how it is ordered: ontology and cosmology. They were also concerned with how we come to know (epistemology) and how best to live (ethics). At the same time, the scientific thinkers of early Greece and Rome were also influenced by ideas from other parts of the world, and incorporated aspects of Egyptian, Babylonian, and Indian science and mathematics in their studies. In this Very Short Introduction Liba Taub gives an overview of the major developments in early science between the 8th century BCE and 6th century CE. Focussing on Greece and Rome, Taub challenges a number of modern misconceptions about science in the classical world, which has often been viewed with a modern lens and by modern scientists, such as the misconception that little empirical work was conducted, or that the Romans did not 'do' science, unlike the Greeks. Beginning with the scientific notions of Thales, Pythagoras, Parmenides and other Presocratics, she moves on to Plato and Aristotle, before considering Hellenistic science, the influence of the Stoics and Epicurean ideas, and the works of Pliny the Elder, Eratosthenes, and Ptolemy. In her sweeping discussion, Taub explores the richness and creativity of ideas concerning the natural world, and the influence these ideas have had on later centuries.ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Tässä jaksossa vieraana on tuttuun kesäiseen tapaan Miska Käppi. Istumme Miskan kanssa pitkäksi toviksi Saimaan saaressa sijaitsevan saunan kuistille pohtimaan turvan ja vapauden jännitteistä suhdetta. Aloitamme jakson tutkimalla Pohjan Akan, kaiken vapautemme lähteen, todellista luonnetta. Ancient Science in the Bible (pt 2) There seems to be a serious conflict between the modern science in our world and the ancient science in the Bible. Do modern scientific findings threaten the Christian faith? Does modern science "disprove" the Judeo-Christian God of the Bible? Do the skeptics have a legitimate reason to dismiss the faith on the basis of modern science? There are valid questions that need to be considered. Unfortunately, most people in our modern American society have a flawed view about the nature of science and the nature of Scripture. Let's explore the question as to whether the Bible teaches modern science or not.
"What is the ultimate goal of a mantra? To transcend sound and bring you into silence."This week, we are revisiting a special interview we had with Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary. We talk about mantras and their meaning - looking at the mantras word-per-word and as a whole to help deepen our practice. We begin this episode by understanding a Beej or Seed mantra a little more to help our understanding of the mantra. Here's one of the mantras we look at in this episode: Om KreemMaha KaliSarva Rogam Nasi NasiThis is a chant that invokes the energy of The Goddess Kali. We go a little bit deeper on the kind of transformation and transitions a mantra allows us to have. We also talk about Dr. Chaudhary's book, Sound Medicine: How to Use the Ancient Science of Sound to Heal the Body and Mind. Ancient Science in the Bible (pt 1) How did ancient Israelites understand the cosmos? They used their physical senses and imagination to make sense of the world around them. Nowadays, we would consider this “old science” because they lacked modern scientific instruments to help them understand nature. However, this "old science" gives us a lens into great hermeneutics (ways of interpreting Scripture) and theology. Adopting the historical and cultural context of the ancient writings are key to understanding and appreciating the Bible. I invite you to join me as we enter into a whole new world of ancient science in the Bible. Let's begin our journey into a whole new universe of ancient Near East cosmology!

How do we explain what resonates with us and what doesn't? And what is resonance, anyways? You may—or may not—be surprised to learn that the word resonate actually refers to the creation or experience of a deep, full, and reverberating sound … which brings us to today's very special guest. For this week's show, we speak to May Globus, a sound therapist with an amazing podcast of her own, called The Craft. If you're wondering what a sound therapist does, imagine being enveloped by sound to the point where it feels like it's washing over you (which is maybe why the experience is also referred to as a sound bath). About May Globus: Inquisitive is May Globus' natural state. A former fashion, lifestyle, and culture journalist, she was Vancouver city editor for Rogers Media's female-focused digital lifestyle magazine Sweetspot. She's worked both with and within social impact companies across North America, including TEDactive, rennie group, Westbank, the Clinton Giustra Enterprise partnership, and more. Out of deep, inspired conversations she has on the regular with the creatives and entrepreneurs in her world, her podcast The Craft came into being. May is currently a certified sound therapist with her own Vancouver-based practice, oto healing. Her clientele include corporations and their teams, professional athletes, entrepreneurs, creatives, architects, musicians, expectant mothers, and more. On this episode we chat about: What sound therapy really is (the practice, history, and science of it) Why May decided to cultivate a routine of sound therapy—and offer it to others How the experience of sound therapy creates resonance to support our healing The importance of letting go and truly feeling what comes up in our bodies and minds Why creativity plays a role for healing in childhood AND adulthood How spoken mantras can help soothe and calm our nervous system Why human connection is vital to our health Did you know sound healing is supported by both quantum physics and biochemistry?! May tells us about that too! In this episode, we discuss human history from the Paleolithic Age (2 million BCE) to the Epic of Gilgamesh (2700 BCE). We examine the various cultures and civilizations that existed simultaneously as we trace the root of human ideas and innovations. To better understand human consciousness and ourselves (how we think, where are thoughts derive/ the pattern of thoughts) we can trace ideas throughout human history. When we examine human history, we are examining ourselves thoroughly which can help establish what kind of person we want to be.

The question is that there is a guru mantra or there could be another mantra such as the mantra of a Devi on which the mind keeps going back to. It is said that guru mantra has big significance then what should be done if the mind goes on any other mantra than the guru mantra? You cannot chant guru mantra for twenty-four hours. Chant the guru mantra, the guru mantra is in which you got initiated and not the mantra in which you remember your guru. So, chant the guru mantra for some time in a day. Please note that you will get the attainment only by chanting the guru mantra in which you were initiated. But, there is an assumption in this, that your guru gave you the mantra after thinking it through. If a guru gave the mantra just like that and your mind has affinity for any other mantra then you should chant that mantra. The book “The Ancient Science of Mantras” gives a detailed and in depth knowledge about mantras which covers every aspect of the science of mantras. Om Swami giving an introduction of his book “The Ancient Science of Mantras” on request from the audience. I have spent many years on the path of the science of mantras. This book explains how the mantras were originated and before that it talks about how sadness, unhappiness came into existence. It also talks about the hurdles you face while invoking the mantras. How one should choose the mantra, what are the flaws in mantras and how you can correct those flaw. It also explains how Nyasa should be done and how hand locks (mudras) are to be performed. The book has information on how to invoke the deity of the mantra, the four pillars of sadhana. It happens in almost all the religions that people follow the religion without truly examining the underlying scriptures. Even if your religion has one book, three books, thirty books, three hundred or three thousand books, most people don't read their scriptures. They just read parts and extracts. There are many people who have heard about Krishna and they talk about Krishna and Bhagavad Gita but have they actually read the Mahabharata, the scripture? If you haven't, clearly you don't have the information from the first hand source. Most people have these rules and rituals without knowing what the scriptures actually say. If you read the scriptures, no doubt there are parts that won't make sense to you because lot of scriptures and texts were desecrated by the Mughal invaders when they came to India. For example China destroyed the Tibetan monasteries, we also went through hoards of people who came to our nation and destroyed the very root of our culture. That's how the nations are destroyed because their culture is destroyed. If you transform their culture, they would no longer be what they were earlier.
