Season 6, Episode 735: A Genuine Discussion of Intimacy and Sex. From Marine to Intimacy Guide: Andre Lazarus discusses topics on Pleasure, Vulnerability, Shedding Shame, and Connection with podcast host Ruan Willow. Rarely does a career pivot feel this surprising and this necessary. Andre Lazarus went from U.S. Marine to somatic intimacy guide, and the journey took a full decade of witnessing profound healing breakthroughs before he truly found his calling. Andre shares how his work (grounded in the Somatic method) helps everyone from trauma survivors to couples navigating alternative relationships. He's perhaps best known for appearing on the U.K. television series Virgin Island as a professional surrogate partner, bringing these conversations into public view in a way that actually matters. What does it really mean to feel safe enough for genuine pleasure? How can we be more authentic in our intimacy? Andre argues that safety isn't something a partner provides for you. It's your own responsibility, built through boundaries that are dynamic and require constant, intentional practice. Andre addresses male vulnerability, which is less commonly discussed. Men, he explains, often struggle deeply with reconnecting to vulnerability, and that disconnection blocks pleasure entirely. He also breaks down his three-pillar framework: open community conversation about sex, attunement to a partner, and aftercare. He also talks about how men have tradtionally talked about sex from their own perspective, leaving women, women's bodies, sensations, and women's pleasure out of the conversation, which has collectively skewed our culture's view of sexuality to the male experience and perspective, and erroneously perpetuated that this also applies to women. This is total lie and a very common, and toxically pervasive, misconception. Humans are finally looking at women's pleasure and experiences with sex, but it will take time to permeate the general populus to break the male centered myths. The more we talk about this the better! Topics discussed: Sexuality as Our Birthright and Vulnerability Safety is Your Personal Responsibility Setting Boundaries and Saying No Listening to Your Body's Signals Beyond Penetration: BDSM Exploration and Sensation Slowing Down and Redefining Sexual Pleasure Understanding How Our Desires Develop Breaking Free from Sexual Shame Sexual Performance Issues in Male and Female Bodies Self-Pleasure and Sexual Shame in Childhood Taking Responsibility for Your Own Pleasure Why We Shame Sexual Tools Helping People Find Intimate Connection on Television Finding Your Joy and Sexual Authenticity Exploring Different Experiences With One Toy Connect with Andre: Today, Andre balances private coaching, workshops, and a men's online course on sexual communication with growing media visibility, including the upcoming second season of Virgin Island. His career has followed an unconventional path: from serving in the U.S. Marines to guiding people through the complexities of intimacy and desire. That breadth of experience gives him a distinctive perspective on courage, vulnerability, and human connection. He is best known for his role on the UK television series Virgin Island, where he appeared as a professional surrogate partner helping participants confront intimacy challenges alongside licensed therapists. The program drew national attention, and Andre's presence on screen highlighted how intimacy work is not about performance but about safety, consent, and the courage to connect. Through his practice, Coming Closer, Andre supports individuals and couples across a wide range of needs: men facing midlife performance concerns, survivors of trauma seeking safety, long-term partners wanting to revive passion, and those exploring alternatives such as ethical non-monogamy. Equally, he works with couples committed to monogamy who want to strengthen trust and rediscover each other. His approach, rooted in the Somatica® Method of sex and intimacy coaching, emphasises learning through the body and replacing shame with curiosity. While Andre has also taught workshops introducing kink and alternative practices, he situates them within a broader conversation: how people of all backgrounds can embrace intimacy as part of their wellbeing. His message consistently comes back to honesty, communication, and self-awareness as the foundations for connection.

In this episode of ReBloom, we sit down with Anna Holtzman, a licensed therapist, coach, and what she calls a “multi-time rebloomer,” to explore what it really means to step into a more honest expression of yourself—and your work.Anna's story is one so many women will recognize. She began her career in design journalism and spent over a decade working in television and publishing before feeling the pull toward something deeper. Her transition into therapy and coaching wasn't part of a plan—it was shaped by experience. Burnout, chronic pain, and the quiet habit of self-silencing led her to ask a different question: What would it look like to trust myself instead? What unfolds in our conversation is both practical and reflective.Drawing from her work as a therapist and coach, Anna shares how nervous-system-informed practices helped her reconnect with her voice—not in a performative way, but in a more grounded, sustainable one. We talk about how fear of visibility shows up for high-functioning women, why imposter syndrome persists even with success, and how to move forward without constantly second-guessing yourself.Anna also hosts the podcast How to Trust Yourself, where she continues these conversations around self-trust, visibility, and doing meaningful work in a way that actually feels sustainable.Join us for a thoughtful, honest conversation—one that may shift how you think about showing up in your work and your life.Website: https://www.annaholtzman.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/anna_holtzman?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==How To Trust Yourself Podcast: https://pod.link/1679033028Free Workshop: “Let Yourself Be Seen”: www.annaholtzman.com/beseenBig thank you to our sponsor: Jet Creative: A women-owned marketing firm committed to community and empowerment. Whether you're celebrating, grieving, or somewhere in between, this episode is a reminder that joy can coexist with pain—and that you can rediscover the magic of Christmas in your own way.

We compound everything. We feel anxiety, and then we get mad at ourselves for feeling anxiety, or we feel, you know, like annoyed or stressed. And then it's like, what do you have to be stressed about? You should be so good. You know, it's like we compound it by judging ourselves for our negative emotions.” - Lisa (13:19) Find out the deep insights Lisa shares as she explores how these transformational strategies act as triggers for you to re-establish a deep connection with yourself. Learn more about how mindfulness and meditation help you distinguish between the critical and loving voices inside of you. “Our negative emotions are just human. They're beautiful, and they're there because of something that took place. And it's okay. And we just have to love ourselves through it.” - Lisa (13:34) The Path to True Happiness: "We have to learn how to have the peace, the joy, the calm in our inner landscape, and then that energy goes out and so effortlessly starts changing everything in our external landscape." - Lisa (16:50) One of the standout segments in this episode is Lisa's advice on discerning between conditioned wants and what your soul truly desires. This guidance is a game-changer for anyone feeling unfulfilled, despite ticking off all the metaphorical boxes of success. Lisa passionately emphasizes aligning your actions with what genuinely brings you fulfillment. “It's really just, again, getting some discernment between the voices in our head like that super loud voice of our inner critic and that ticker tape that's constantly going by. We have to be able to quiet that to hear the little bit more sensitive, delicate voice behind it.” - Lisa (20:30) Learn self-compassion techniques. Be gentle with yourself. Recognize and release negative thoughts, and practice self-compassion to overcome past conditioning and emotional pain. “Hear the voice in your head, take some distance to, to watch the thoughts that are going by. We bring so much additional interior muck into our worlds with that voice in our heads, which goes on to create all these problems that we have out here. The whole game of whack a mole could basically be avoided if we would learn to be more compassionate with ourselves and not let our thoughts take us down all these dark roads.” - Lisa (27:55) In this episode: (00:34) - Introduction of the guest, Lisa McCourt (07:13) - Discussion on taking pauses and managing stress (09:39) - Coping mechanisms for disturbances (11:03) - Effective tools for anxiety and overwhelm (13:06) - Being comfortable with fear (14:58) - The gifts of living in joy and bliss (17:02) - The power of practicing self-refrain (17:44) - Conclusion on personal mastery (17:59) - Inner Consciousness and Happiness (18:13) - Experience of Silent Retreat (18:40) - Impact of Silent Retreat and Personal Growth (19:12) - Conditioned Wants vs Soul Wants (20:19) - Pleasure and Chores vs Inner Calling (21:55) - Self-Care and Importance of Balance in Life (24:12) - Overcoming Life's Challenges and Discovering Authentic Self (27:30) - Emphasizing Self-love and Self-compassion Resources and Links 52 Weeks of Hope https://www.52weeksofhope.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/lauren-abrams-83b8b421/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyLA7Rb6E0PtKBhPGu1vcjA https://www.facebook.com/52weeksofhope/ https://www.instagram.com/52weeksofhope/ https://twitter.com/52weeksofhope Get your FREE Confidence and Clarity Growth Scorecard About Lisa McCourt Lisa McCourt is the author of "Free Your Joy: The 12 Keys to Sustainable Happiness" and dozens of other books about love and joy that have together sold over 9 million copies. Taking an editing break while focusing on a new project this week, so as we all like to find a little joy in life, I thought to share this show from 2021, all about finding it for yourself. Finding Your Joy explores thoughts, feelings and anxiety with today's guest, Erin McCullough. She reveals how finding joy is possible at any time and that we do not have to do anything to matter. We are always relevant, and our existence is enough. Erin had no idea what to expect when she agreed to couples therapy. During the first session, she had an unexpected reaction, which the counsellor explained was a panic attack. She had never experienced a panic attack before, nor had she any awareness of her suppressed emotions. “It was a defence mechanism not to feel the emotions of when I was a kid.” Our conversation explores the life transitions that occurred for her through a near-fatal accident, divorce and meeting the man of her dreams on the first 'swipe-right'. It's also a story about the baggage we carry always, wherever we go. Towards the end of the podcast, there is an exercise to explore and discover your own joy. My full introduction to this recording, along with Erin's website and social links are all available at: http://www.lifepassionandbusiness.com/erin-mccullough-finding-your-joy Life Passion & Business is dedicated to exploring what it takes to be Extraordinary, to face challenges and rejoice in the opportunities they bring, and to expand our vision into new ways of thinking and living. Do you want to know the secret to making the best decisions? Are you sometimes scared to trust your inner knowing? Are you ready to find out when to act on your decision? Join Lauren as she gives you powerful tips on how to make decisions and move your life forward. Learn powerful methods to help you create and act on the right decisions! “Answers emerge in the pause, taking that breath, putting your hand on your heart. And breathe.” – (Lauren) 5:24. In this episode, you'll learn the importance of pausing, listening to your inner self, and ignoring the outside voices. Lauren offers simple tools helping you make the best decisions for you and, more importantly, how to act on them once they've been made. The answers lie within, and fear often keeps you from finding them. You have to name them to claim them; when you do, they'll magically disappear! “I also never discuss a situation or make a decision without sleeping on it.” (Lauren), 6:38. Overcoming Fear: "Is fear stopping you from making a decision? Is there some kind of fear? [...] Because if fear keeps you from taking action, Then name it because you name it to claim it. And naming and claiming the fear takes the power away." – (Lauren), 10:27. Listen and learn why you should never make an important decision without first sleeping on it, why hand journaling works best, and why staying aligned with what you feel is right for you is a must! Don't skip this chance to gain practical tools to help you become a strong decision-maker and begin living a richer, more fulfilled life! It'll only take a few minutes, but those few minutes will be some of the most powerful you've ever experienced, and you're sure to revisit these tools again and again! “If it's hysterical, it's historical; Look for some underlying root causes . . . ” – (Lauren), 7:42. “Silence and presence, that's how you access your clarity and openness.” (Lauren), 9:30. "If it's coming from a place of love and service, and it fills you with joy, and when you think about doing it, it just feels right, That's the right answer for you. That is the easiest way to come to the right decision.” – (Lauren), 13:45. “Don't just sit on it; take action.” – (Lauren), 16:30. In This Episode: (3:03) – Trusting your inner knowing. (4:44) – Asking the universe for a sign. (5:25) – The power of the pause and how answers emerge in that space. (6:03) – The best answers emerge from within. (6:51) – Never make a decision without sleeping on it. (7:08) – Walking in nature without any devices is a way to pause and listen. When you do, answers emerge. (7:50) – Pay close attention to situations that prompt strong reactions. (7:57) – The value of journaling (by hand!). (9:50) – The quiet moments that can be found in breathing-in, and breathing-out. (11:22) – Naming and claiming your fear takes its power away. (12:07) – Closing your eyes, feel, and find your fear. (12:35) – The importance of breathing into your fear. (13:14) – Taking action even if you're afraid. (14:09) – Instead of going to the wrong person, do a gut check. (14:33) – Do what it is that fills you with joy. (14:43) – Does the decision come from a place of service or selfishness? (15:01) – Regardless of where it comes from, if it feels right, there is your answer. (15:25) – The Erma Bombeck List. (16:09) – The importance of staying aligned with what's right for you. (16:14) – Why hand writing journaling is the preferred method. (16:35) – The Five Second Rule. (16:56) – If it's right for you, it will work for you, even if you make a mistake. For those that survive, deprivation of oxygen to the brain can cause what is known as "anoxic brain injury". Today's episode is with special guest Whitney. She is a young widow of her beloved husband Ryan, a 35 year old Police Officer/K9 handler who was one of the 90% of the statistics due to the result of a bee sting. Her life changed upside down in a moment, at the same time of raising a young child and expecting with her second. In this special episode, we talk about the true meaning of what grief can look like, how society can make the process challenging, and how even through the dark moments you can find your happiness and your joy again in life. Whitney is now the author of an upcoming memoir "Running In Trauma Stiletto's" and moving forward as a grief coach to help others in the community.
