On this episode we talk with Actor and Producer Armando Gutierrez. Armando was born in Cuba and came to the United States where he pursued his acting career. He's been seen in various films such as "Walt Before Mickey", "The Little Mermaid" and now he has his new movie Bezos: The Beginning which just hit Amazon Prime in January 2023. This is Armando's second time on our show and we are so pleased to have him back. In 2018 I met Armando as well as the entire cast of "The Little Mermaid" at the Tampa Theatre for the premier. What was most surreal was watching the movie next to the actors as we watched it together. It was my first red carpet and I made some amazing friends including Armando. https://itsemmasworld.com
Armando Gutierrez stars as Jeff Bezos in Bezos: The Beginning. He is a producer and an actor who grew up in Miami, FL, and whose family members are descendants of Cuba. He produced the live-action Little Mermaid on Showtime, Anastasia on the Paramount Network, A New York Christmas Wedding on Netflix, and Walt Before Mickey on Apple TV. He trained in acting at the Guildhall School in London and is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Miami. Armando's latest projects include a The Tryout, a baseball reality TV show. In this episode I speak with author Timothy S. Susanin about his meticulously researched book 'Walt Before Mickey, Disney's Early Years, 1919-1928.' Tim's book chronicles in exquisite detail, the life of Walt Disney and practically everyone he knew from his life as a teenager in Kansas City in 1919 and the formation of his first animation studios, to his move to Hollywood in the summer of 1923 and the eventual beginnings of the Disney Brothers Studio and Walt Disney Studios. Through Tim's book we get a look into the life of Walt Disney and become familiar with him in new ways, through his family, friends, colleagues, employees, investors, neighbors and business associates. The community of people with whom Walt Disney associated during this critical period of his life are brought to life alongside him and open us up to seeing a side of Walt we never knew before. If you think you have read everything you could about Walt Disney, think again, and pick up a copy of Tim Susanin's incredible book and get to know the Walt Disney we never really knew 'before Mickey'. I hope you love it. hear the story of The Lift Boy who inspired this story hear how the Lift Boys eyes and the words he said became the source of this movie stuck in a place he didn't want to be, he left everything to take a risk and do something he had never done before, write a script and make a movie at 24 he made it, at 29 it went on Netflix for those of you who have always dreamed of doing something but the world has told you, you can't, listen to this story what corrupts us from moving forward and what propels us forward the philosophy of fail forward the origin of the creative process how did the process of writing The Lift Boy come to him the importance of obsession what inspired him to make this movie the process of talking to the characters and listening to what they have to say the father son relationship seeing the blank page, and the anxiety that drives you forward a dive into the experience where writers block opens up ask yourself, why did I start this and other questions you can ask see the process of Walt Disney in the Netflix movie Walt Before Mickey what it means to Fail Forward? begin with the end in mind the experience of going through moments of self-doubt, anger and tears the trashman and getting it out every meeting gave me free feedback and the studio that finally said yes the office, the prestige and the nothing that happens buying his script back, setting up his own office and making it happen on his own when asking for help, be specific the nuggets that pack the creative process of telling the story of human life what would it take for you, the listener to find this passion how the relationships in his life entered into to the relationships of The Lift Boy the transformation that happened in him when he made The Lift Boy the reaction of his mother and his father to the release of his film. enjoying the few moments of success before the goalposts change anxiety, ambition and the desire to do something good making happiness a state of mind and one small deed of kindness

The life of Walt Disney has been one of the most written-about and documented things in history. However, there are few stories that have made it to the big screen about Walt's early days trying to get his animation business started from the ground up. "Walt Before Mickey", released in 2015, stars Thomas Ian Nicholas as Walt himself and details the triumphs and failures that Walt encountered during those early days. Today we are joined by Thomas Ian Nicholas as well as one of the writer/producers of the film who also played the role of Ub Iwerks in the film, Armando Gutierrez. Together, we'll talk about how the film came to be, the challenges of working on a film with such a low budget and tight deadline, things Thomas Ian Nicholas did to prepare for the role of Walt, and much more!

The Mouse Castle Lounge Podcast: Disney News and Interviews, Cocktails and Conversations
Tim meets Tim when Tim Callaway interviews Disney historian Tim Susanin, author of "Walt Before Mickey: Disney's Early Years, 1919-1928." The 2011 book is a detailed account of Walt Disney's early career in art and animation from the time he returned from France after World War I until the birth of Mickey Mouse in 1928. It was a period of Walt's life that Susanin says had not been previously explored in detail, yet it was arguably the most critical ten years in Walt's life, a period when the would-be filmmaker found some success but also experienced a series of career failures and life lessons. It's a great story that would make for an interesting movie, and it's about to do just that. "Walt Before Mickey," the film, will be released this April. www.TheMouseCastle.com

A new "Frozen" attraction is planned for the Norway pavilion at Epcot, replacing the Maelstrom boat ride, but the real surprise "Inside The Mouse Castle" is that Anthony has never set foot inside the Disneyland Hotel and has--gasp--never been to Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar. While he and Tim sort that out they also discuss the latest movie rumors from "Avengers 3," "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" and "Star Wars: Episode VII," give updates on "Captain America 3" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," and preview the upcoming Walt Disney indie biopic "Walt Before Mickey." www.TheMouseCastle.com
