This proposed metallic sulfide mine would be the closest to Lake Superior in history as well as bordering the North Country Trail and Porcupine Mountain State Park - which is not only the largest State Park in Michigan, it is the largest designated Wilderness Area in mainland Michigan with 40,000+ acres of designated Wilderness including 35,000 acres of old growth forest which is the largest tract of mixed coniferous-deciduous old growth remaining in the Midwest. It was recently ranked as "most beautiful State Park in the country." The Michigan Strategic Fund is currently considering a $50M grant to the proposed Copperwood metallic sulfide mine - this move would be an incredibly irresponsible use of taxdoller money and most likely open the door to additional investment and funding that would help the foreign energy company get the necessary resources to start development. Tom goes in-depth in the episode to how we got here, what's at stake and all of the current calls to action that we're encouraging folks to take. Please join us in taking action and spreading the word to your friends! /// EPISODE 44

Since then she has explored thousands of kilometers of back woods in Nova Scotia, discovered lichen species new to the province and to the Maritimes, written and co-authored over a dozen papers on lichens and a field guide designed to bring (sometimes mysterious) lichens to the general public. She is a Research Associate at the Nova Scotia Museum.Frances explains what lichens are, how they reproduce, and what roles they have within the ecosystem, how they can assist in air pollution monitoring, some applications in medicine, and also Frances talks about how much we still don't know about lichens! The mine site and waste rock tailings would perpetually pollute turning this world class wilderness and pristine watershed into a polluted chain of lakes, rivers, streams and marshes forever. On November 16th, 2015 seven men set out to hunt Lily Pond Road at the Lake George Wilderness Area in Upstate New York . The men were all experienced hunters, had communication devices, were not far from their camp, and were on a commonly used road. After hunting for a couple of hours the group decided to return to their cars. Tom Messick, who was sitting in one spot about 40 yards from the main road, was never seen or heard from again.  The following day, an extensive search and rescue operation was launched in the immediate area of his disappearance. At the peak of the search, over 50 organizations and upwards of 300 searchers were trying to find Tom. The search failed to find Tom or any evidence he had even been in the woods that day. How could an experienced hunter have gone missing in such a short period of time? Why did two FBI agents show up? Join us this week as we piece together the bizarre details behind the disappearance of Tom and search efforts that followed.  This episode is brought to you by Verdure, a company that strives to offer only the highest quality and locally sourced CBD products all made in the USA.    Learn about other unsolved missing persons cases in America's wilderness at Locations Unknown.
