Klar, wir können das schon «Neo-»Soul nennen, was der britische Songwriter auch auf seinem vierten Studioalbum wieder macht. Aber natürlich steckt da auch viel «Retro» drin. Trotzdem werden sämtliche Nostalgiefallen elegant übersprungen. Mit seiner letzten Platte «Kiwanuka» (2019) gewann der Musiker aus London den begehrten «Mercury Prize» (zu den Mitnominierten gehörten u. a. Stormzy, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa oder das Sports Team), also gab es eigentlich auch kaum Gründe, für die vierte Platte all zu viele «Changes» vornehmen zu müssen. Erneut stand das gleiche Team hinter dem Studiopult (Inflo von Sault und Brian Burton alias Danger Mouse), nur an der Bassgitarre gab's eine kleine Änderung: Koryphäe Pino Palladino (D'Angelo, The Who, Eric Clapton) spielte die wunderbar warmen Basslinien des Albums ein. Und ja, eigentlich erscheint diese Platte erst *diesen* Freitag – weil sie kurzfristig um eine Woche verschoben wurde. This week, we're diving into the Multiverse! But not the one Marvel tells you about. We're looking at actual Multiverse theory, how it came to be, and why it could explain many parts of our reality! Did you know some scientists believe that our universe is connected to an infinite amount of other universes? Did you also know that both the thing that causes this theory, and is explained by this theory is right around us? Multiverse theory provides unlimited possibilities - some universes abundant with life (much more than ours is known to be right now), and others where matter can't even exist. It's unlimited possibilities, and there's a lot to talk about!The same element that influences multiverse theory also plays a pivotal role in another scientific theory - something we're all more familiar with thanks to the newest Marvel movies. We're talking about String Theory! It's the idea that while we can only perceive four dimensions (length, width, depth, and time), there may be as many as 6 more dimensions that we can't perceive. Views of our reality with limitless other possibilities, including parallel realities with subtle decision-making difference throughout that influence different outcomes. Or, entirely alternate realities with completely different conclusions. And, realities and perceptions entirely devoid of the passage of time. Again, the possibilities are endless.So, how did this theory come to be? It helps explain/is somewhat caused by quantum physics. These are things that take place on a sub-molecular level, and may be influencing the world and universe around us in ways we can't even fathom. This leads into the theory that these unrealized dimensions are either so big, or so small that we can't perceive them. It's mind-bending, awe-inspiring, and leads to several unique theories of our own! We're back! My guest today is Jay Kogen. Now that name is probably mostly familiar to you if you have been a fan of The Simpsons since day one, as he has been there that long. Jay, with his then writing partner Wally Walodarsky, were among the orginal writers who created and formed the show as we know it today. Jay created Duff Beer, Kang & Kodos and so much more. He was also a writer on Frasier for which he won and Emmy and Jay created, with me, one of my first pilots, the late lamented World On A String, which got made, did not go to series, but did inadvertently lead to me joining The Simpsons myself. Jay is also a second-generation comedy writer. His dad Arnie was a writer for the Tonight Show, The Carol Burnett Show and Mad Magazine. Jay grew up in that world. Tons of amazing stories, On True tales from Weirdsville this episode we have the strange, ugly and oh so prescient story of Confidential Magazine.
