    211. Mother's Day Is Complicated—Let's Talk About It

Mother's Day is a complicated one for me—and I know I'm not alone. In this episode, I open up about my relationship with Mother's Day, especially after losing my mom just over a year ago. This isn't a conversation about flowers and brunch plans (though I'm not knocking either). This is a deeper reflection on grief, forgiveness, healing, and the legacy we carry—and sometimes rewrite—as daughters and mothers. For most of my life, I had a complicated relationship with my mom. It wasn't something I talked about publicly while she was alive, but now, as I work on the book about our story, I feel called to share more—especially for those of you who also didn't grow up with the Hallmark version of a mother-daughter relationship. In this episode, I share:Why Mother's Day can feel like grief, even if your mom is still aliveWhat helped me begin to forgive my mom—and why it didn't require a conversationThe full-circle moment at our final Mother's Day togetherWhy I chose to write a book instead of telling our story on social mediaA powerful reframe around forgiveness, boundaries, and self-honoringWhat to do when you feel like “celebrating” just doesn't feel alignedWhether you're missing your mom, navigating a strained relationship, or just feeling the heaviness this day can bring—I hope this episode meets you with compassion and validation. And as a gift, I've added a link to access a guided healing meditation —a gentle energy transmission through the mother line. You can revisit it anytime. It's not a one-time fix, but it's a sacred step.

I'm so excited to bring you this conversation with my dear friend and mentor, Dr. Alexis Romeu. We've been connected since 2017, and if you've been around here for a while, you already know she's no stranger to the podcast. But if this is your first time meeting her, let me properly introduce you to someone who has truly changed my life.Dr. Alexis is a doctor of Chinese medicine turned metaphysical teacher, channel for a trans dimensional being named Simon, founder of the Expansion Principle energy healing technology (which I'm now a practitioner of), and author of two incredible books. Go off friend! In this episode, we dive deep into what channeling actually is (spoiler: it's not just “I had a great idea!”). We unpack the difference between readings, psychic abilities, mediumship, and true trans-channeling—where consciousness outside of you speaks through you. Alexis shares her journey of connecting with Simon, how Expansion Principle came to be, and the importance of energetic discernment (because no, you don't just let any ol' being borrow your vessel). We also talk about:How channeling is different from psychic readings (and why not all "messages" are created equal)Why the guidance from Simon has been a game-changer for me—especially during the hardest seasons of my lifeHow Expansion Principle has opened up my intuitive abilities (even though I didn't come from a traditional healing background)The beauty of zooming out to see life from a higher perspective, especially when humaning feels like… a lotWhat to expect if you're joining us for an in-person channeling experience (yes, Alexis is coming to Tampa!)If you've ever been curious about channeling, energy healing, or how to navigate life with a little more cosmic support, this conversation is for you. Plus, we share some personal stories—including how Simon casually dropped details about my book cover (that I never told Alexis) and why fairies made a surprise appearance.✨ Tampa friends—don't forget, Alexis will be here on May 1st for two special events: 1️⃣ A live channeling experience with Simon 2️⃣ A Meet the Author event for her newest book The Art of Sacred Relating I'll drop the links below so you can grab your spot. And if you're not local, don't worry—there are plenty of virtual ways to connect with Alexis and Simon too. Trust me, once you experience it, you'll get why I've been showing up twice a month (plus private sessions) for years now.Links & Resources:

In this episode, I'm diving into something that's been on my heart for a while now: legacy. You know, the kind of stuff that makes you stop and think about what really matters in life. Losing my mom earlier this year, and my brother years ago, has completely reframed how I view life, work, and what we leave behind. Again. Today, I'm talking about how we can create a legacy that feels authentic, meaningful, and (surprise!) doable. Especially for us entrepreneurs—what happens when we shift from chasing revenue goals to creating something that lasts longer than an Instagram story? Here's What I Cover in This Episode: What Legacy Means to Me (and Maybe You, Too): I break down how the traditional definition of legacy doesn't quite cut it anymore—and why I think we're living in a time where legacy can be so much more. Why Loss Has Shaped My View of Legacy: Personal stories about losing my mom, my brother, and how those experiences have guided me to focus on leaving an impact—both for my family and the world. Legacy Through an Entrepreneurial Lens: What if your business wasn't just about making money? I share how shifting my perspective has helped me realign my work with my deeper values. Legacy-Building Tools of 2025: I geek out on my favorite ways to leave your mark: Writing a book (the highs and lows of this massive mountain to climb). Podcasting (spoiler alert: it's more than a marketing tool). Social media (yes, if you save and archive your content thoughtfully). Digital courses (they're not just for revenue—they're timeless capsules of your wisdom). It's Personal, Not Perfect: I share why your legacy doesn't have to be a bestseller or a viral hit. It just has to be you. And it doesn't all have to be public—your legacy can include things meant only for your family or even just yourself. What I Hope You Get From This Episode: A fresh perspective on why your life's work matters. Inspiration to create something meaningful without getting caught up in perfectionism. Practical ways to start thinking about (and building!) your legacy today, even if you've never considered it before. Don't Forget: If you loved this episode, I invite you to share it with someone who could use a little inspiration today. Let's chat! What does legacy mean to you? 207. I said I was dancing with grief and the universe delivered

Hey everyone, grief journey update ahead. The last episode dropped on September 5th, a Thursday, and the feedback I got really warmed my heart. Some of you shared kind words, and it felt good to know my vulnerability resonated with you, especially when it comes to grief. But, honestly? I've been dragging my feet about recording again. Maybe it was a vulnerability hangover, or maybe I just needed some time. When we left off last episode, I was talking about how I was dancing with my grief. Well, let me tell you how the universe delivered. On September 6th, the day after sharing the most recent episode, my dad had a birthday party in his building—music, champagne, dancing, the works. When I walked in, he was already in his element, dancing and having a great time. It was beautiful to see him enjoying himself, but when he noticed me and gestured for me to join him, I was hit with a wave of overwhelming emotion. The last time I had danced with my dad was at my wedding in 2015, nine years ago. The emotions hit me like a bag of bricks. I suddenly felt like I couldn't handle it. I considered passing on the offer because I was afraid of losing my composure. But then I gave myself a quick pep talk, “Get it together! You're not going to miss this chance.” So, I went out there, and I'm not gonna lie—I lost it. I ugly cried right in front of everyone. Talk about a vulnerability moment! I know I've said that crying is healthy, and it is, but doing it in front of a room full of people is a whole different ball game. It felt like the universe was reminding me, “Hey, you said you wanted to dance with your grief. So here you go.” And that's exactly what I did. I ugly cried and danced with my dad for the first half of the song, and it was intense. I realized that I was not just dancing with my grief, but also with my dad's grief—his loss of my mom, the love of his life, despite how many years it had been since they were together. Sometimes I get so caught up in my own grief that I forget he's grieving too. He's been dealing with this since April, and it hit me that we were both in this dance together. I felt it was important to share this moment because I needed a bridge to move forward from our last conversation. I hope this resonates with some of you who might also need that transition. It's okay to feel sad, to be vulnerable, and to express those feelings—especially in a world that often tells us otherwise. So, as you listen, remember it's okay to dance with your grief, to cry when you need to, and to pep talk yourself into facing those tough emotions. Here's to a week of honoring our feelings—whatever they may be. xo

But over the past eight years, especially since I was pregnant with my second child, I've worked hard to build my emotional intelligence and learn to recognize and process my feelings. Crying as a Tool: I want to talk about crying—something that makes a lot of people uncomfortable. Personally, I cry almost every day, and I've come to see it as a valuable way to process emotions. Old Emotions: I'm still working on clearing out emotions I've been holding onto for over 30 years. It's been a long journey, but one that I've learned so much from. Finding Safe Spaces: It's crucial to find spaces where I feel comfortable expressing my emotions. These safe spaces are defined by trust and the ability to hold my feelings without judgment. Safe Spaces Defined: For me, safe spaces aren't just physical places but are defined by the trust and emotional capacity of the people around me. Emotional Capacity: Not everyone has the emotional bandwidth to support others' emotions. I've learned that it's okay to ask if someone has the capacity to listen before sharing my feelings. Parenting Through Grief: I've learned to model healthy emotional expression for my children, showing them that it's okay to cry and talk about our feelings openly. Teaching Through Example: By sharing my emotions with my kids, I aim to teach them how to handle their own grief and feelings in a healthy way. Experiencing Joy: It's been challenging but essential for me to allow myself to feel joy even when I'm grieving. I've learned that both joy and sadness can coexist. Finding Beauty in the Storm: Embracing both sadness and joy, and recognizing the beauty in difficult times, helps me find balance and healing. Thank you for tuning in, friend. I hope this episode helps you navigate your own emotional landscape with greater ease, flow, and compassion. xo

    202. Country Beyoncé and Breaking Down the 'Stay in Your Lane' Mentality

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 6, 2024 18:09

Now, it's not my usual style to dive into internet drama, but sometimes, you come across something that hits close to home. Recently, I stumbled upon a post on Facebook where someone suggested that “Beyoncé should stick to her own lane and stay out of country music.” Now, this struck a chord with me, not just because I'm a fan of Beyoncé, but because it's reflective of a mindset that we should have left behind by now. Let's break this down together and understand why such comments are not just harmful, but also a reflection of someone's own limiting beliefs. As we enter 2024, it's high time we move away from shrinking ourselves and others based on preconceived notions. As a woman entrepreneur who has faced her fair share of challenges and risks, I feel a responsibility to address these harmful comments. Moreover, as a mother to black children, it's crucial to speak out against perpetuating stereotypes, especially when it's coming from one (white) woman about another (Black) woman. The claim that someone should stay in their lane is essentially a projection of the individual's small perception of themselves. We shouldn't be putting people into boxes, whether it's about their music, their work, or even their role in motherhood. We are here to expand, evolve, and try new things. Now, if you're in a position of influence, be it as an entrepreneur, mentor, or guide, remember the sacred responsibility that comes with it. Your words carry weight, and they can either inspire or discourage those who look up to you. Putting someone in a box not only limits their creative expression but also goes against the universal commandment of being fully expressed as individuals. The journey to self-expression involves shedding old layers and making space for the new, for your soul's expression. I'm currently diving into an audiobook on creativity, and it emphasizes that some of the best art can be polarizing. Not everyone has to like it, and that's perfectly fine. Our world needs a spectrum of voices, flavors, and expressions. So, instead of limiting others, let's be aware of our reactions and thoughts when we encounter such statements. Here are a few questions for you to ponder: 1) Can you cheer for others when they take risks? 2) Can you allow yourself and others to step outside of boxes and labels?, and 3) Can you embrace people's highest possibilities? It's time to break free from the old paradigm, hold visions of highest possibilities, and create a world where diversity and creativity flourish.  And by the way, have you heard Beyoncé's latest country tracks? They're on repeat in my car, and yes, I'm officially a country music fan in 2024. #influenced. 202. Country Beyoncé and Breaking Down the 'Stay in Your Lane' Mentality

Adds this to the list of topics that I never thought I'd podcast about. The response on social media was overwhelming, with tons of DMs asking about my technique. Tune in for my secret. I draw parallels between teaching bike riding and tackling those huge life projects like writing a book, launching a podcast, or creating a digital course. My not-so-secret sauce starts with breaking it all down into bite-sized, manageable chunks and relishing those quick wins. When taking off the training wheels, this starts with a piece of sidewalk chalk and a simple line on the pavement. You'll hear my non-expert step-by-step method, where we celebrate every small achievement, creating an excited vibe. Then, you'll hear my perspective on surrendering to the outcome. They key to this piece: a heavy dose of patience and trust. Whether it takes a couple of days or a week, the goal is to make it fun! And in true Nichole Joy fashion, I turned it into a business / life lesson for you.  As I draw parallels between teaching bike riding and conquering big projects, you'll learn about compounding your skill set. It's like adding layers to your expertise in podcasting, writing, or any other area of life. Before you go, please don't forget to share your experiences with me—whether it's teaching your kid to ride a bike or conquering your dreamy delulu projects. Fresh off the 2024 Birth Worker Retreat, I'm excited to share my biggest takeaway & business lesson with you. Keep in mind, this was my first in-person speaking gig since 2020, and I have to say - it was better than I could have imagined. Back in 2020, my first in-person event had a handful of attendees. The plan was to keep them rolling every six months, but well, as we all know, life had different plans. Now, fast forward to the first Birth Worker Retreat – we had about 40 birth workers from all over the U.S. Plus, huge shoutout to two former clients who made the trek all the way from Canada, one who traveled 18-hours each way from Victoria to Clearwater, Florida. Pause. If you're wondering, why birth workers? Sure, I work with various professionals – from nutritionists to real estate closers, youth sports camps to pediatric therapists – but my heart will forever and ever live in the birth industry. Birth nerd for life, amen?! So, my biggest takeaway from this retreat? The impact of my work, especially my podcast and voice, on real, living, breathing humans. People came up to me, sharing how they've been listening to and loving my podcast for some time, and were thrilled to meet in real life. I had no clue that my podcast was weaving into their lives in such a profound way. Here's the thing: many of these amazing humans never told me this before. No reviews, no messages, you get it. And, listen, in case I've never told you before… if you're enjoying the show, don't be shy – tell me (*bats eyes*). As a Projector in human design, that recognition is like plugging a freshly charged battery into me. What does this have to do with you? If you're a fellow entrepreneur in ANY industry, remember that success isn't measured in metrics. Even if the algorithm seems to be ignoring you, or your engagement is low, rest assured – people ARE watching, listening, reading, and being impacted by your message. Let's normalize telling people when their work helps us, moves us, inspires us. Up for a challenge? Let's make it a habit to tell five businesses or individuals this week about the positive impact they've had on us. Write a review, send them an email, text, or DM. Comment on their content. Remember, you attract what you ARE. And to wrap up the episode, I've put together a sweet compilation of clips from the retreat – snippets of attendees sharing their favorite moments. If you were there and didn't make it into the video, feel free to send it to me for version 2.  And if you missed the retreat this year, good news: we booked the same spot for 2025! In this episode, let's break down a business lesson in repurposing, inspired by Nicki Minaj's new album. Through a few of my personal life examples, you'll get a wider perspective on the value of repurposing and refurbishing.  I'll explain the concept of "sampling" in the business world, show you parallels between how artists sample music and how entrepreneurs can sample ideas and concepts. To be clear, by sampling, I don't mean copycatting without giving credit. Rather, sampling done right involves learning from others, embodying that knowledge, and applying it in a personal and meaningful way. Using examples from my own experiences, such as shopping my closet for an upcoming event or rediscovering old recipes, you'll see the importance of repurposing and refurbishing existing assets in both personal life and business. Then of course, I'll bring you back to your role as an entrepreneur, drawing a connection to digital assets in the business realm, encouraging you to revisit and repurpose your own content. In doing this for myself recently, I was inspired by my own past work, appreciating the value of these "energetic time capsules" that can be revisited and shared over time. If creating sustainability in your businesses is on your dream list, you can start by avoiding the constant need to recreate the wheel. My advice: find someone, whether that's me or another, to guide you in creating your own sustainable business. Listen, just because it's the second week of January, we aren't yet jumping into full-on planning mode in my corner…yet. There's still loads of space that needs to be cleared, and in this episode, I'll share several fire lessons (if I do say so myself). Let's take a glimpse at the examples… Example #1: If you watch my IG stories, you know I am into face yoga. In class, we do this exercise known as fascia rolling. The benefit of fascia rolling (per the expert)? Creating space in the face for circulation. Example #2: This one's for my fellow birth nerds in the room. Remember Webster certified chiropractic care during pregnancy? The first time I had this done (second pregnancy), the expert explained to me that while my baby wasn't in optimal position, chiro adjustments weren't to ‘get baby into position,' or to put me into labor, per se. Rather, she explained that her job was to create space within the womb… so that the baby has space to potentially move into a better position. Example #3: A bit of a preview to next week's episode, this example is from that time (like three months ago) when we cleared a lot of ‘fluff' off of a client's calendar to avoid burnout. We made SPACE. The full circle moment for this one will come next week!  Example #4: This one comes from my sh*tty, albeit improving, gardening skills. More specifically, the time I pruned the heck out of my massive tomato plant in my tower garden. By cutting back unnecessary branches and roots, more nutrients are directed towards fruitful branches, resulting in healthier growth.  What better way to kickoff 2024, than with examples that hit? Signed, your example queen, Nichole Joy. This year, I encourage you to create space, flow and to try on desire-setting, which feels so much more expansive than goal-setting. My friend, you're in for a treat. Closing out the year isn't just about physical or digital decluttering; it's also about cleaning out the energetic residue that has built up over the past months or even years. Just as our homes or digital spaces accumulate clutter, our businesses and lives accumulate energetic clutter. Imagine your business as a room. Over time, various individuals have stepped into this room, leaving behind their energy, beliefs, and footprints. Some of these energies might not align with your vision or goals. As you close out one year and step into the next, it's essential to clear out this energy to create space for what aligns with your intentions for the coming year. To help you with your business energetic cleanse, I've included a guided meditation with a specific energy healing modality, Expansion Principle. You'll also hear a bit about my own decluttering process, bringing back episodes from 2021, and adding a new layer, where we'll dive deep into cleaning the energetic business space. Because here's the thing - sometimes the energetic footprints of past clients, collaborators, or mentors linger and can impact the current state and future trajectory of your business. The goal of this energy cleanse is to ensure that your business's energetic container is aligned with your vision, goals, and intentions for the upcoming year. Just as one might declutter their home or digital space, it's crucial to declutter your business energetically. Then going forward, you'll learn how to be discerning about who and what you allow into your business's energetic space. Just as you wouldn't let anyone touch your hair or work on your body without consideration, you shouldn't let anyone or anything into your business without careful discernment. By doing so, you ensure that your business remains squeaky clean and aligned with YOU. This episode is divided into three parts: Physical Cleanup: grab a pen and get to work! You'll learn how decluttering physical spaces like closets, kitchen cabinets, workspaces, & car interiors can impact your life. Digital Cleanup: Moving to the digital realm, the focus shifts to tidying up email inboxes, organizing digital folders, decluttering phone apps, and being intentional about content consumption on social media. Oh, and we'll be unsubscribing from unnecessary newsletters, categorizing emails, and adjusting notification settings. Energetic Cleanup: The final segment dives into an energetic healing process. Using a guided meditation, you'll be guided through visualizing your business space, identifying and removing lingering energetic footprints from past interactions or influences. This process aims to create a more aligned and vibrant business environment for the upcoming year. To wrap up: cleaning out old, stagnant energies, whether physical, digital, or energetic, is essential. Doing so creates space for new opportunities, clearer intentions, and a more focused path forward in the new year. Happy New Year, friends. 191. Time commitment, benefits & strategies for efficient and effective podcasting

This episode explores the time commitment, benefits, and strategies for successful podcasting, emphasizing how podcasting fosters deeper connections with the audience, offers lasting legacy content, and allows for efficient repurposing on social media. Inside, you'll hear my perspective on various aspects of starting a podcast and I'll address topics from entrepreneurs considering podcasting, including: Time Commitment: The time commitment for a podcast can vary, with episodes ranging from as short as 15 minutes to an hour or more. The actual time spent on podcasting depends on factors like whether you do it all yourself or outsource production and the initial effort required for the podcast's launch. Podcasting vs. Social Media: Podcast content has a longer shelf life compared to social media content, which often expires quickly. Podcast episodes are consumed differently, with listeners seeking a deeper connection and a more authentic exchange. Podcasting allows for stronger relationships with the audience. Legacy Content: Podcast episodes, especially evergreen ones, serve as legacy content that continue to attract listeners, even when you're not actively creating new episodes. This can result in ongoing engagement with your content. Ownership: Podcast content is considered an asset that you own, in contrast to social media content, where you're essentially renting space. This ownership provides more control over your content and its distribution. Building Relationships: Podcasting allows for deep, authentic connections with the audience. When potential clients reach out after listening to your podcast, it often feels more like a conversation than a sales pitch. Repurposing Content: Podcasts serve as pillar content that can be easily extracted and repurposed into smaller pieces for social media. This strategy makes the content creation process more efficient and drives traffic back to your podcast. Broadcast on Social Media: Social media can be used as a platform to broadcast snippets of your podcast, inviting your audience to listen to the full episode. In this episode, you'll hear what I told my client (about marketing) who can't stand social media. First, it's important to know that enjoying and being good at social media is NOT a requirement for successful online marketing. If social media isn't your thing, you'll still learn more about alternative ways to market your business online, so that people can continue to ‘feel you,' even when you're not physically present. Your in-person networking efforts are incredible, AND can be limiting if not followed up by some kind of virtual presence. Remember, we are building for sustainability. And you can't possibly go to every single networking event in your town, forever and ever amen. Amen? Here's the thing, marketing isn't going away. My advice: find a way that you can get behind. A way that works for you. Not to fret, I won't leave you hanging. You'll learn three alternative methods of marketing your business OUTSIDE of social media. And then, you may decide to use social media simply for a broadcast portal. A FREE broadcast portal. Inside, I'll cover: Podcasting as a valuable online presence strategy that is distinct from social media. Then, I'll explain how podcast content can be repurposed for social media to spread the word. Blogging as another viable alternative to social media. I actually recommend traditional blogging as a powerful way to share your message. Side note: I encourage turning podcast episodes into blog posts and vice versa, when possible. In-Person Networking Events, particularly when boosted by an online presence alongside in-person efforts. Energetic Connection. I discuss the strength of energetic connections, ranking them as follows: In-person interactions Video content Audio content Written content Additional links: Podcasting with Heart (NEW course): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/podcastingwithheart Private podcasting mentorship application: https://nicholejoy.hbportal.co/public/64fa005ec70ae50024c65155

With six years of online business (and 4 years podcasting) under my belt, I've had a wide variety of both DIY and outsource experiences. While this episode discusses the right time to DIY your podcast vs. the right time to outsource your podcast, you can apply the messages to almost any project in your business. Below are the episode details. Enjoy! Segment 1: What I Wish I Knew Before Starting a Podcast A personal story about how my podcasting microphone collected dust for 18 months before I started. What moved the needle, what got me to start. Once I was ready, my first podcast launched within a month. The first version of your podcast isn't the final version. Personal corporate life story that gives context to the value in knowing how to do something FIRST, before outsourcing. Segment 2: Can you DIY your own Podcast? After almost four years of podcasting, I only recently started doing my own editing (September ‘23). Secret: it's SO much easier than I was making it out to be. Benefits of editing your own podcast: Creative freedom Cost savings (a real thing for many of us) Empowering to know how to edit Helps you to hire more efficiently if / when the time comes to outsource Great exercise in healing your inner perfectionist & allowing yourself to be imperfect Segment 3: What should you outsource in podcasting What may be outsourced: Editing Graphic design for your cover graphic Copy Show notes Repurposing The issue with the message of ‘outsource everything' is that it can lead to over (& sometimes unnecessary) outsourcing. I probably over outsourced, too early on, and learned some costly lessons that I'm hoping to save you from. Cons of outsourcing too soon: Cost not being able to move quickly and make changes on a whim relying on others' schedule When is the right time to outsource? In my opinion, only after you know how to do the things, and can hire someone else who will do them YOUR way and efficiently. When your business reaches the point where the expense doesn't feel so tight Additional links: Podcasting with Heart (NEW course): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/podcastingwithheart Private podcasting mentorship application: https://nicholejoy.hbportal.co/public/64fa005ec70ae50024c65155 Birthworker Retreat Tickets: https://mailchi.mp/behervillage/birthworkerretreat Black Birthworker Scholarship Application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe2Cye69MQ01inIERCVj5AAbPBPvg7In7zisLdpFJqKM0_S_g/viewform?usp=sharing Honeybook (CRM) trial: https://share.honeybook.com/nichole35768 Alumni Study Group (FB): https://www.facebook.com/groups/alumnistudygroup

In this podcast episode, we'll explore the world of podcasting, its origins, aligned reasons for starting a podcast and how to monetize your podcast. The Origin of Podcasting You'll learn a brief history of the term "podcast," explaining that it's a combination of "broadcast" and either "play on demand" or "portable on demand." Statistics on Podcasting You'll hear some statistics about the podcasting industry, specifically that approximately 90 million Americans are weekly podcast listeners, and the industry is projected to have over 100 million listeners in 2024. Why to start a podcast In this episode, we emphasize the importance of creating podcast content for the joy of it, rather than just for monetary gain. Nichole encourages listeners not to make money the primary goal when starting a podcast, as passion and authenticity are crucial for sustainability. The episode then delves into the various reasons why someone might want to start a podcast, including sharing a message, enjoying conversations, diversifying marketing channels, avoiding platform restrictions, and going deeper into topics. To share an important message with the community. Enjoyment of talking and having conversations. Diversifying marketing channels beyond social media. Not being bound by platform rules. Appreciation for audio-based content. The desire to provide a better podcast experience. The opportunity to go deeper into topics. How to monetize a podcast The second half of the episode focuses on how to monetize a podcast. Nichole discusses methods such as advertisements, sponsorships, partnerships with aligned brands, becoming the face or voice of a brand's podcast, using calls to action to promote one's own services and programs, and most importantly, the power of authenticity and connection. Nichole suggests that by being true to oneself in the podcast, one can attract the right audience and, in turn, monetize the podcast effectively. Advertisements and Sponsorships - Discusses placing paid ads and sponsorships in podcasts. Sponsorships and Partnerships - Collaborating with aligned brands for sponsorships. Being the Face or Voice of a Brand - Becoming the voice or face of a brand's podcast. Calls to Action - Using the podcast to promote your own services, offers, and programs. Authenticity and Connection - The host's favorite way to monetize, by being genuine and attracting dream clients through the podcast. The episode concludes with a reminder not to lead with the goal of making money, and instead, prioritize genuine and meaningful content creation. Stay tuned for the next episode, which will address when to DIY podcasting and when to outsource podcast production. In this episode, we explore the concept of "shitty" courses and books, and how they can serve as catalysts for our own creative journeys. You'll hear my personal experience of reading a book that didn't resonate with me, but sparked the inspiration to create my own audiobook shortly after. Then, let's go deep on what might be "shitty" for one person could be the key to unlocking creative potential for another. Highlights of the episode: 1. The Confidence Boost: a personal story about the time that I read a book I didn't resonate with, and it gave me the confidence to ‘write' my own book. Sometimes, it's the "shitty" books that inspire us to take action. 2. Shifting Perspectives: I invited you to reflect on how the initial thought of categorizing creative work as "shitty" can be hierarchical and unproductive. Instead, try on this more inclusive perspective where what doesn't resonate with us may be perfect for someone else. 3. Diversity of Offerings: With over 30,000 pregnancy books on Amazon, it's clear that not every book is meant for everyone. No matter your industry, your unique perspective can resonate with a specific audience that needs your voice. 4. Quality vs. Relevance: the value of creative work goes beyond the quality of production. A high-end course might not resonate with some individuals, making it a "shitty" course for them. 5. Activating Creativity: I encourage you not to shy away from creating your own work, even if you fear it might be considered "shitty" by some. Sometimes, these "shitty" creations are the very catalysts that activate creativity and unique voices. So, can we give the "shitty" authors and course creators, ourselves included, the recognition they deserve? These works, although not for everyone, can still inspire others to share their unique voices and perspectives. Whether it's the "shitty" books that activate us or the ones that truly resonate, they all have a role in helping the collective. Remember, your work is perfect for the people it's meant to help. He was a centennial approximately 23 years old, and we got into the topic of metaphysics and spirituality. He mentioned that he was interested to know more about these topics and so  I ended up referring him to somebody I know. I gave him the Instagram account, and gave a quick disclaimer: I told him that this lady is not actively posting on Instagram but usually responds when someone DMS.  And his response shook me, and made the think about our definition or perception of success. What are we looking at when we assess people online? Do we check their follower count? Their Instagram aesthetic? Or how much they earn? Do we check their lifestyles, the size of their houses, the cars they drive?  In this episode, I'll be sharing with you a few questions that you may use to ponder on your own markes for success. Have you watched the Fair Play documentary on Netflix yet? Admittedly I only half watched, but that was all I needed for my takeaway: The most important piece (for me) is that society is beginning to recognize the mothers' (sometimes) unpaid contributions to the family: the physical & mental load. For example, remembering the groceries, who has clean uniforms for tomorrow, what extras to pack for each kid, snack bags etc. And for that alone, good job “Fair Play.” Progress! What's next? In this episode, you'll hear where I feel that we are going next in terms of recognizing what mothers bring to the family: the healing contribution. It's been my observation that the mothers are initiating the healing of the family, the deconditioning, pattern breaking and creating of a new consciousness level for the family as a unit. One that honors each child for who they are as an individual. Many of the mothers of our generation came into this role with an 80s/90s boombox consciousness level operating system - and we're trying to apply that to our children, who came with an iPhone 3000 consciousness level operating system. Initially, her plan was to stay home and raise the children, but after being stationed in Alaska, she became a bit of a recluse and started looking for social interaction. She stumbled upon a multi-level marketing company, which she became heavily involved with, prioritizing her business over her family. She eventually started feeling guilty about not spending enough time with her children, as she used to spend up to 10 hours in her office doing her MLM business. Despite providing her children with all their material needs, she felt she was not giving them the attention they needed.   AmyLee also discusses her approach to homeschooling, which is child-led and practical, and how human design plays a significant role in her family and how she adjusts her parenting style accordingly.   She is the author of a children's book, "The Colors Inside of Me," which is about a little panda who recognizes the colors within himself and his classmates. Each classmate tells him about a color they see in him and the quality that goes along with it. The book is a response to the Martin Luther King Jr. quote that children will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. The key message of the story is the importance of recognizing different cultures and traditions that exist inside individuals, which make them who they are.   As a mother of five, AmyLee discusses how she decides which priorities to focus on in her life as a mother, a business owner, and a spiritual coach.   She explains the importance of being playful and allowing oneself to be different, and believes that homogenization is an economic tool used to convince people that they want the same things, which ultimately reduces the cost of production. Differentiation is crucial, and it's up to individuals like us to be stewards of it. We must let our children know that they are allowed to be different and that it is okay not to find validation for their uniqueness in the outside world.   Show links: Motherhood Decoded: Heal the Line (VIRTUAL 5/11/23): https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/motherhooddecodedvirtual NEW Content Course NOW inside of the Evolutionary Business School: https://members.nicholejoy.com/online-business-school-membership The Portal All-Access Pass https://nicholejoy.kartra.com/page/theportal Private mentorship: email me at nichole@nicholejoy.com to chat & see if it's a good fit.
