In the US, the regulation of food products, including the ban on certain items, falls primarily under the jurisdiction of two key agencies: the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this episode of the Xtalks Food Podcast, Sydney talks about the top 10 foods banned in the US and why. The list includes unpasteurized milk, Kinder Surprise Chocolate Eggs, sassafras oil, Four Loko and Ackee as well as shark fins, sea turtles, Japanese puffer fish, beluga caviar and haggis. Reasons for the bans vary, but some foods are banned because they are endangered species, while others are banned because they contain toxins that can be dangerous when consumed in large amounts. The team compares the foods banned in the US to those banned in Europe and while there is some crossover, it all comes down to the culture and ethical considerations of each region. Also in this episode, Sydney talks about the launch of Kraft NotMac&Cheese by The Kraft Heinz NotCo. and TheNotCompany, Inc. (NotCo). This plant-based iteration, a first in the US, leverages NotCo's AI-driven technology that crafts plant-based substitutes indistinguishable from their animal-based counterparts. Kraft NotMac&Cheese is a fresh take on the classic blue box, responding to the booming demand for plant-based options. The Kraft Heinz NotCo is confident that its new product, free from artificial dyes and made with fava bean protein and coconut oil powder, will not only preserve but enhance the brand's legacy with its creamy, dairy-free alternative. The new Kraft NotMac&Cheese is set to hit stores nationwide, completing its rollout by early 2024. While the team is critical of the product's name and packaging, they are certain that Kraft NotMac&Cheese will cater to both plant-based eaters and carnivores alike.Read the full article here:Top 10 Foods Banned in the USNotCo and Kraft Heinz Unveil Plant-Based NotMac&Cheese For more food and beverage industry content, visit the Xtalks Vitals homepage.Follow Us on Social Media Twitter: @XtalksFood Instagram: @Xtalks Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Xtalks.Webinars/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/xtalks-webconferences YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/XtalksWebinars/featured

Deesha Philyaw and Dawnie Walton introduce “Under the Ackee Tree,” a story by Jonathan Escoffery from his acclaimed 2022 collection, If I Survive You. The story is performed by Torian Brackett, and it comes from the collection's audiobook, produced by Macmillan Audio. Our thanks to Macmillan for sharing the story with Ursa's listeners. This story follows Topper, a Jamaican immigrant who has fled the political violence in Kingston and moved his family to Miami to raise his two sons. “Under the Ackee Tree” is a narrative of leaving and of loss, of destruction and rebuilding, and of the ways we disappoint as partners, as parents, and as children.  Support our show by becoming an Ursa Member: https://ursastory.com/join/ Reading List If I Survive You, by Jonathan Escoffery (MCD) If I Survive You audiobook (Audible) Jonathan Escoffery Publications Jonathan Escoffery Interviews About the Author  Jonathan Escoffery is the author of the linked story collection, If I Survive You, a New York Times and Booklist Editor's Choice, an IndieNext Pick, and a National Bestseller. If I Survive You was longlisted for the National Book Award, the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award, the PEN/ Robert W. Then we're joined by the thoroughly delightful Canadian soprano, Othalie Graham (0:41:22)! I love a story that teaches me something.” In this episode we find out what Escoffery has learned from the hyper masculine and often violent short stories of Denis Johnson's acclaimed collection, Jesus's Son, and the vignettes in the electric coming-of-age novel, We The Animals by Justin Torres. Andi Oliver is joined this week by musician and actor Jordan Stephens and he's brought a dish that's close to both of their hearts: ackee and saltfish with dumplings. It's a Jamaican national dish beloved in Britain by people from all parts of the African and Caribbean diaspora. During Jordan's childhood it was a crucial part of the Guyanese buffet at Stephens family sports days in North London parks. Neither ackee nor saltfish originated in the Caribbean, so how did they end up on a plate together there? Jordan and Andi explore the history of the dish and its connection to the transatlantic slave trade, as well as how food intersects with the complex experience of Black British Caribbean identity. And there's a cautionary scientific tale from Kimberley Wilson, on how surprisingly dangerous ackee can be if not handled correctly. V roce 2016 ho zařadil časopis Forbes do žebříčku 30 pod 30. Oba si mohou vybírat klienty a nemusí brát každou zakázku. Co si myslí o tendrech a výběrových řízení? Mluvili jsme i o ideální utilizací týmu a o tom, co s volnými kapacitami.

Jerk: Jamaica’s signature flavour is one of a kind! Earthy spices, aromatics and a burst of heat from fiery Scotch Bonnet peppers make jerk a must-eat dish on your visit. Try it in any of its varieties whether on meat or seafood, even in unusual desserts! Patty: Eaten by everyone and at any time of day, the Jamaican patty is a favourite of our culinary scene. Try a hot one with a fresh cocoa bread and a cold Ting for the ultimate relief on a hot summer’s day. Ting: This carbonated beverage packs the tartness and sweetness of grapefruit into a bottle, a delicious and refreshing taste of Jamaica. Steamed Fish: As an island it’s no surprise we love seafood. Be sure to try steamed fish, cooked in a savoury coconut milk sauce with herbs, spices, and vegetables. Oxtail: Seasoned oxtail cooked till tender in an array of spices and broad beans and served with our traditional rice and peas is a dish that Jamaica knows and loves. Try it and you may find that you’ll fall in love as well. Curried Goat: Taking cues from the Indian elements of Jamaica’s heritage, this succulent dish where the goat meat (mutton) is immersed in spices and curry, is typically served with steamed white rice. Rice and peas: Rice and peas is the combination of red kidney beans and rice cooked to perfection in coconut milk, fresh herbs like scallion and thyme, and spicy Scotch Bonnet peppers. The result is a delightful side dish that serves as the ideal accompaniment to many of Jamaica’s popular meat dishes. Run down: Salted mackerel reduced in coconut milk with fresh local herbs and spices, an unlikely but delicious combination that must be had to be appreciated. Escoveitch Fish: Julienne peppers, carrots and, onions are pickled in a vinegar and salt combination that creates a light sauce typically served with freshly fried fish. Ackee and Saltfish: Jamaica’s national dish is a must-try dish on any visit to the island. Ackee, Jamaica’s national fruit, is sautéed with salt fish (cod) fish, onions, tomato, sweet pepper, and other seasonings after being boiled. This colourful combination is often mistaken for scrambled eggs but is most assuredly a far more savoury and delicious dish. It is often served with fried or boiled dumplings, ground provisions and fried sweet plantains. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/stacey-ann-bradley/message

Solomon, who is given the title of the wisest man who ever lived, is known for thousands of Proverbs on love, life, business and a host of other subject matters. Many cultures have used Proverbs to communicate lessons, which are passed on throughout the generations following. Unfortunately, some cultures are losing this unique form of communication for one reason or another. One of the reasons that is having such an impact is the immediate access to the global community. Fortunately, there are some people who have committed themselves to the preservation of these cultural identifiers. One such person is our guest on today's show. Her name is Lorlett Hudson who currently resides in the United Kingdom. In this episode you will hear her talk about a number of issues and how she has created a business using Proverbs her Grandmother taught her. What is a Proverb? According to Dictionary dot com, a proverb is "a short popular saying, usually of unknown and ancient origin, that expresses effectively some commonplace truth or useful thought." Here are some other important things to know about Lorlett's thoughts about her homeland, migration, lessons learned, culture, assimilation, hard work, taking action and one phrase that has remained with her: Q. What country are you representing? A. Jamaica Q. Why should someone visit Jamaica? A. - travel to the rural areas to be with the local people and get the true spirit of Jamaica Q. Whats a must do, see or have while in Jamaica? A. - get a taste of the food types but get an older person to cook your meal. Cornmeal pudding aka "Hell a top. Hell a bottom and Heaven in the middle." Q. What's your favorite dish you missed? A. - Fresh fish from the river and my Grandmother's cooking and also Ackee and Saltfish. Q. What one phrase that has remained with you from your homeland? A. - "when beggar beg from beggar him neva get rich" Translation: (look at who you are associating yourself with. Make sure you are choosing wisely) Q. What's your definition of Success? - being able to wake up each day feeling good about myself. - recognize I have something of value and can make a difference to someone each day Q. What are some obstacles you experienced in your journey? - having a child at a young age Take aways: - Zig Ziglar:You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want. - you will only get results through people - know what it is like to be of service - one hand can't clap: it is impossible for anyone in life to do anything great all by themselves - teach people to value what is really theirs; what they have - leadership is in a crisis and is requiring a different approach on how business is conducted - focus on what comes naturally to you that you don't even have to think about and generate an income from that Greatest Accomplishment: - Degrees in communication - created my business using Jamaican Proverbs taught by my Grandmother - Flashcards in a box sharing Jamaican Proverb in the cultural dialect with the translation on other side Lessons Learned: Valuing what is really yours Find out what is it about your culture that makes you unique and embrace it Use your culture to your advantage Understanding who you are, remembering your family name and from where you came Tweet: "focus on what comes naturally to you that you don't even have to think about and generate an income from that" Lorlett's Bio: Lorlett Hudson, commonly known as the ''What Next'' Coach, a multi award winning Inventor, an entrepreneur, seminar leader. motivational teacher, the founder of One Hand Cant Clap training company and the Inventor of the critically acclaimed Things Mama Used To Say Jamaican Proverbs Flash Cards. Have the Yardie Skeptics gone completely mad? Why do they want to take their heathen wagon and steamroll the Christian connection with Jamaica's national symbols? The national anthem, a prayer from start to finish, and the national pledge, said "before God", both demonstrate how Christianity has co-opted Jamaica's national symbols, and the Yardie Skeptics have those symbols in their sights!  Is it time to consider national symbols which truly reflect the faith diversity in Jamaica? Or are there more pressing areas for secularization before turning attention to songs and pledges? Join the Yardie Skeptics this Sunday, August 24th at 12:30pm EDT (11:30am Jamaica time) as we dissect the issues at stake. Joining us live in studio will be Dr. Anna Perkins, Catholic theologian.  At the start of the show, during the grab bag segment, we talk to Renee-Lauren Ellis and Lisa Soares, organizers of the recently concluded Caribbean Youth Summit in Philadelphia to get a report on the issues being tackled by Caribbean youth as it relates to identity, gender, and sexuality among other concerns.  To listen to this episode live, or catch the uploaded version afterwards, simply click the link below. Yessss indeed! This ya PODCAST is a celebration of our most recent collaboration with the great PARK HEIGHTS label from right here in BROOKLYN, NYC!!! Ya See wha me a say?!?!?!? Think back and reflect of the great years of NYC reggae...yesss...Let us now bow our heads and give a three fisted Brap Brap Brap gun salute to those golden years!!!!! There was a time in the 80s and 90s when New York City could stand head to head with Kingston as the hottest place for dancehall music....clubs like Q Club, Reggae Lounge, Love People, Biltmore Ballroom ran things at night while during the day Utica Avenue, Fulton and Church was like MUSIC CENTRAL with tons of record stores and labels booming up the big tunes for the people. New York had its own sound and its own artists, and one of the finest spots was the store called PARK HEIGHTS ran by Delroy Francis and his wife Flavia. The two of them ran one of the hottest stores and from early on began producing a slew of unique records both Roots, Digital and dancehall. Delroy had his finger on the pulse of the new digital language of the mid-eighties and combined that heavy production with some of the best underground singers and DJs who were then living in Brooklyn. Well we are proud to introduce our first set in what will be a long series of Reissues done in collaboration with Delroy Francis and his Park Heights label.
