To all of our Tori Amos fans out there, we're doubly sorry because this is our best podcast about Tori Amos and the 233rd greatest album of all time, Little Earthquakes.    Before we get to the music, we're popping a wheelie on the zeitgeist and covering Beverly Hills 90210, Meghan Markle's homage to Big Bopper, and the price of Cadbury eggs. Then we're heading to Legoland for a celebrity sighting and to Dodger Stadium for some Dodger Dogs, which will cause all you bunheads to jettison this episode altogether.    At (63:00), we take a brief musical detour to talk about Tori Amos's 1992 album, Little Earthquakes. We discuss Tori's musical insubordination, piano skills, and MTV unplugged performance.    Next week, we're heading into the void and becoming the best Black Sabbath podcast when we discuss the 1971 heavy metal album Master of Reality.

We also enjoy some record store zen featuring new and used albums. Then we provide some travel tips for all of you heading to Ireland and Costa Rica...passport, pants, and electrolytes....you may want to write that down.    Then, at (55:00), we turn this taco truck into a Ferrari and become the best jazz podcast by breaking down John Coltrane's seminal jazz album. We discuss Coltrane's devotion to jazz music, chord changes, and the fastest songs of all time.    Next week's episode is certain to include many previous things when we become the best Tori Amos podcast and cover her debut studio album, Little Earthquakes.

Content warning: this episode discusses SA. Please take care while listening.  Objectively speaking, Tori Amos' Little Earthquakes is one of the all time great debut records. On the latest episode of Messing With The Master, Kristen, Matt and Joe lovingly look back and contextualize this seminal album, which laid down the foundation for the mythology of Tori and created a language all her own. The bracing new musical vocabulary of Little Earthquakes truly signaled the birth of a star.   Very few– if any– albums from debut artists sustain the kind of power and resonance of Little Earthquakes. Amos dared to make the most private parts of her life public, infused them with poetry, gathered an army of fellow survivors, and created a genuine  community that's with her to this day.   Crafting an origin story for the ages, Amos proved she understood the assignment and the stakes and caught a ride with the moon. The prom queen minister's daughter next door made a modern rock record and became a star. It felt like we knew her and spoke the same language. Oh, these little earthquakes. Here we go again. It feels familiar because we've all been there. Tori took a major risk setting her diary to music,  and verbalizing the verboten, but it's one that continues to speak directly to the hearts of countless listeners, somehow, after all these years. THE JEREMIAH SHOW - Featuring Jef Scott! The story of a rock and roll legend. Jef Scott's story is that of LA rock and roll lore...Strap in! Jef's first band was GEISHA. They played the Sunset Strip and toured the U.S.A. After he left GEISHA, Jef formed his own band. After playing a show one night at The Whiskey, he met actor Willie Aames who attended Jef's show. Willie was a teen idol star from the ABC show called EIGHT IS ENOUGH. Willie asked Jef to write songs for an upcoming album he was about to make and their recording sessions ultimately landed Jef to act in the last season of EIGHT IS ENOUGH as Willie's best friend and bandmate. Jef played on Tori Amos' LITTLE EARTHQUAKES, international artists James Reyne( Australia), Paul Hyde (Canada), Gregory Gray (Ireland), The Royal Macadamians, and Olivia Newton-John, to name a few. When Jef wrote songs and recorded James Reyne's album, James invited Jef to be his musical director and put a band together in Australia. Jef moved to Melbourne in late 1987, founded a great band including Andy Cichon (current bass player for Billy Joel), and toured the whole country of Australia for two years. In Australia, Jef formed a band called COMPANY OF STRANGERS. It was and still is one of the most successful albums in Australian history, winning Simon and Jef 3 ARIA Awards. Jef is signed to Sony/Orchard and continues to release new music. He has also written songs for TV shows SONS OF ANARCHY, VAMPIRE DIARIES, BEVERLY HILLS 90210, and MELROSE PLACE For the past 15 years, Jef and his writing partner Cody Marks, have teamed up with Wayne Kramer( MC5) and the organization JAIL GUITAR DOORS, playing concerts at California State prisons. Jef is also the creator and host of the popular podcast featured on Radio Candy Radio, BATWINGS. Jef has written a film currently in production called LOST AND FOUND, filming in Portland, Oregon in conjunction with James Standridge and Salmon River Film. With her groundbreaking 1992 debut album, Little Earthquakes, Tori Amos paired pianos with guitars and shook the music world to its core. The record's most poignant and painful moment was the a cappella track “Me and a Gun,” a chilling account of the artist's sexual assault. Long before the MeToo movement, Amos was a hero and crusader who spoke truth to power, not only with her songwriting but with her work as the first spokesperson for the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), the largest nonprofit anti-sexual assault organization in the U.S. In this episode, we explore one of the most soul-baring, innovative releases of the '90s—and the uphill battle its creator faced to get it made. At the time of recording, Wish There Were Beer was tied for our fifth-most-listened-to episode. Tori Amos is an icon. From her arrival onto the scene in 1992 with her debut album Little Earthquakes, to redefining how we felt about classical piano, and opening the door for so many to do it their own way. Her voice, her style, and her presence has blown us away for almost three decades. Tori has released fifteen studio albums, consistently toured all over the world, and penned two books; the latest of which is titled Resistance. That was the catalyst for me asking Tori Amos to Take 5. But to be honest, this is one of those bucket list conversations I've long wanted to have. Teenage Zan wouldn't believe this would happen. When I first heard her, Tori's music and poetry cut straight to my core at my most vulnerable moments. It gave me strength, it showed me that individuality is powerful, it took me to another world. I know I'm not alone. The theme I gave her was sonic hunters; a phrase she uses in her book, for songwriters. I wanted to find out which artists filled her life with magic, gave her the power and the possibility that I had felt. What she shared was so much more. This is a deep cut, an amazing insight into a genius brain, and a celebration of music's power to save us all.
