I borrowed the title of this episode from Cat Stevens, and you will soon see why.   To Cat Stevens, Tillerman represented, "the man of the Earth," working to make things on this planet.  And Tea, well, my guest knows tea. In honour of Earth Day, I sit down with Michael Don Ham, entrepreneur, wellness advocate, and co-founder of Wild Orchard Teas, for a beautiful conversation about purpose, resilience, and what it really means to build a business that matters.  A business in constant conversation with Mother Nature. From the son of immigrants to a teacher to arriving in New York just before 9/11, to finding his passion in regenerative farming, clean air, and human health. Michael's journey is anything but conventional. But what ties it all together is a higher calling: to help people live healthier, more connected, more meaningful lives.    This is a conversation about longevity, leadership, and the courage to choose purpose over quick profit. It is also a reminder that in a world moving too fast, slowing down, sharing time with others, and building with intention may be exactly what matters most.  Enjoy Michael's words of wisdom over a cup of Tea.

The legendary singer/songwriter Yusuf / Cat Stevens released his first album in 1967. He's a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and his albums have sold millions. In 2020, he released Tea for the Tillerman², a re-imagining of his hit 1970 album Tea for the Tillerman. In the song “Father & Son,” he sings a duet between the two title characters, doing both voices. But in the 2020 version, he approached this song in a kind of astonishing way—he recorded the part of the father, but for the part of the son, he used a live recording of himself from 1970, taken from a show he played at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. So the two parts are still both sung in his voice, but 50 years apart. In this episode, the 200th episode of Song Exploder, Yusuf / Cat Stevens tells the story of how he created, and then re-created “Father & Son.”For more, visit songexploder.net/yusuf-cat-stevens.

The AI hype cycle is testing leaders everywhere, and Josh and Bob are here to cut through the noise.Bob opens with a sharp observation. Everyone became an AI zen master overnight, coining terms and jumping on bandwagons while leaders outside that bubble struggle to discern what's real and what's just noise. Josh pushes back on the narrative that AI is causing the massive tech layoffs. His take? Most of those job losses are poor leadership coming home to roost, not AI. Meanwhile, companies that built resilient organizations with intentional hiring are doing the opposite. They're doubling down and using AI as an accelerator. The conversation lands on why only about 10% of leaders are actually getting this right. These aren't the flashy CEOs grabbing headlines. They're the ones in the middle, running experiments and making thoughtful choices about their people and their future.Bob introduces the wheat vs chaff leader metaphor and leans on Cat Stevens' "Tea for the Tillerman" to illustrate steady-hand leadership. The tillerman guides the boat from the back, sensing the weather, the water, and the land. That's the kind of leader worth being. Josh shares a powerful counter-example from a law firm that chose to build their own AI instead of adopting Harvey.ai like everyone else. Using the same tool as every other firm makes you look like every other firm. That's wheat leader thinking. The episode closes with two metaphors to carry forward. Be the wheat, not the chaff. Be a steady hand on the tiller. 19 years of career experience. Tillerman on Truck 21 with DeKalb County Fire Rescue. Becoming a Firefighter wasn't on William's mind. It wasn't until high school where he began to think more and more of the fire service. When he was sure he obtained his EMT and began applying and testing everywhere he could until DeKalb contacted him for a position. William isn't perfect and tries every single day to not only perfect his skills at Firefighting but also within himself and in life. I've been doing soundwalks for three years now, but it feels like longer. Crane Lake Soundwalk is officially #64.I remember the day my dad told me he listened to The Beatles' “When I'm Sixty-Four” on the morning of his 64th birthday. He expressed a certain disbelief that he caught up to the song he first encountered as a twenty-year-old. He didn't feel sixty-four, he said. I even remember the day he repurchased the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album as a CD in his forties. He picked me up at Dudley's Records in downtown Portland, Oregon, and on a whim did some used CD shopping. In addition to the aforementioned Beatles, he picked up Cat Stevens' Tea for the Tillerman and James Taylor's Greatest Hits Vol. 1. Quite the haul, and ultimately not lost on me, even though I was in the thrall of New Wave. I spent my money on New Order and The Smiths. Anyway, I suppose that's just to say, time has a way of sneaking up on all of us. And it leads me to ask, as one does occasionally, how did I get here? Luckily I'd been doing some thinking on it recently and. Here is why I'm still making soundwalks: * These soundwalk environmental recordings—rendered while moving through the landscape at the human scale—possess an intimacy that a fixed position soundscape does not have. In the same way that a human photographed in front of a redwood tree helps communicate the grandeur of the tree, footsteps, and the passing of sounds in and out of the audible horizon lend dimensionality and scale. * It's so much easier to get “good tape”, when you just roll all the time.* It gets me outside. * There's room to grow. I'm getting better.Crane Lake Soundwalk is an interesting addition to the catalog. It's stimulating. There's a lot of wildlife to hear. And if you have the time to spare, you can compare this soundwalk to my debut Listening Spot release, Crane Lake Suite, made on the same day, in the same place, but from a fixed position. It does illustrate differences in the approach. It's just not every day you find yourself next to a shallow body of water roiling with carp. Now, if you just tuned in to the soundwalk without reading this, and didn't know about the carp, you might think it was me sloshing through the water, before realizing the splashes had a fishiness to them. I can imagine it being a little puzzling to the uninitiated. To get to Crane Lake you walk down a grassy lane on a seldom visited quarter of Sauvie Island, just north of Portland, Oregon.Soon enough you come to the lake. There are no official trails. Just slightly trampled lanes in the grass. Here we hear Cedar Waxwing, Black-headed Grosbeak, Tree Swallow, Song Sparrow, Western Wood Pewee, Yellow Warbler, Swainson's Thrush… We also hear the swish of grass underfoot and the cottonwoods quaking in the breeze. At the lake Great Blue Herons stand statuesque. They occasionally erupt from the grass thickets with Cretaceous croaks, ranging around for a new fishing spot. This is like a fast food drive thru for Bald Eagles. Easy pickings in the shallow lake.Juveniles have dark head feathers. They remain silent for the duration of my visit. You will, however, hear a Stellar's Jay mimic a Red-tailed hawk call (28:20). The Red-tailed Hawk call has long been a stand-in for an eagle call in Hollywood movie sound design. Fine sheets of rain fall in waves. The drops sound like little pin pricks, falling on the brim of my recording hat. I walk along the western perimeter of the lake on a little lane. Gentle sounds abound. I walk slowly. This is not the oldest composition I'm sharing this year, but it was tracked a year ago. It's a little surprising to me that I've stuck with a lot of these instrument voices since then. My general drift, I would say, is toward a more electrified palette. But finding the electric sounds that are expressive is time consuming, so I guess it makes sense that when I find a few, I'm going to use them for a while. That's about all I have to say about this one. I hope it adds a little something to your corner of the world. Thanks for listening and reading!Crane Lake Soundwalk is available on all music streaming services today, June 6. Food was always central to her family growing up in Thailand but Suwisa Phoonsang-Robbs (Tillerman Seafood) never really considered a career in food - until she discovered that she could make a career out of it. While studying in Brisbane she landed work in a local restaurant and soon enough found herself rising the ranks and landing career-changing jobs. Trois séries d'animation à rattraper

BetaSeries La Radio

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 29, 2022

The Legend of Vox Machina Les fans de Critical Role attendaient avec impatience la sortie de The Legend of Vox Machina.

Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen! Paul and Arlo set sail for a discussion of David Jenkins' pirate rom-com Our Flag Means Death. The new HBO Max series, a very loose telling of the history between Stede “The Gentleman Pirate” Bonnet and Edward “Blackbeard” Teach, begins as a silly romp very much in the vein of executive producer/star Taika Waititi's other work. And then…well, it becomes something very much more, depicting a number of queer romances in positive, affirming fashion. The boys discuss this shouldn't-be-shocking-in-2022 level of representation, the chemistry between Rhys Darby and Waititi, how closely (or not) the show follows the historical record, the series' moral of not accepting that the way things are is the way they have to be, and more. I figli. For so many people today, anything to do with data management or analysis is seen as something for IT to do or very math intensive. However, Chris Borduas, the Owner of Tillerman, LLC., knows a much more accurate and vibrant side of data management which he is here to share. Learn about how the creative elements and the data analysis mix to make more informed decisions, the importance of understanding your end-users, and how to avoid some of the all too common traps in analyzing data.    Takeaways: Data management is much more than just a function of IT, at its core data management is about understanding a need, figuring out how to serve that need, and how to get the information that you need. It's really a creative exercise more than anything. There are three components of data management: 1. Where do you get the data; 2. What do you do with the data; 3. How do you make it into something you can use to help run your business. In data management, you should really be trying to simplify the process for people so they can more easily understand and use the data. If you want to drink a glass of water, you can't drink a single glass of water if it's coming from a fire hose. To simplify the process for people, there are three steps and questions you have to ask: 1. What's out there and what do we need; 2. How do we consolidate it into something you can use; 3. Understand the end-use of it. Before you start analyzing data make sure you know what question you're trying to answer. For example, know what KPIs are going to tell you whether something is a good investment or a bad investment to you. Avoid falling into the ‘Perfection Trap' of getting caught up in chasing down a >1% variable. Don't let perfection get in the way of strong directionally accurate information because perfection doesn't exist. Directionally accurate information is very valuable, especially when you have the ability to make quick decisions based on the directions shown in the data to get ahead of trends, etc.    Links:  LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/chris-borduas-9a59593 Website: https://www.tillermanusa.com/TillermanUSA/Welcome.aspx Article: https://www.mytotalretail.com/article/how-retailers-can-get-the-most-from-their-pos-data/   Quote of the Show “We're trying to get the right people, the right information they need to make the best decisions they can” -Chris Borduas   Book Recommendation: Blue Highways by William Least Heat-Moon   Ways to Tune In: Apple Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/leadership-in-action/id1585042233 Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/2t4Ksk4TwmZ6MSfAHXGkJI Stitcher - https://www.stitcher.com/show/leadership-in-action Google Play - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubGVhZGVyc2hpcGluYWN0aW9uLmxpdmUvZmVlZC54bWw Amazon Music - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/4263fd02-8c9b-495e-bd31-2e5aef21ff6b/leadership-in-action YouTube - https://youtu.be/tTdIc931fCM

Cat Stevens er maður dagsins í Rokklandi. Árið 1970, fyrir hálfri öld sendi hann frá sér plötuna Tea for the Tillerman. Hann var 22 ára gamall - þetta var fjórða platan hans og hún hefur að geyma lög eins og Wild World, Where do the children play og Father and son t.d.

Árið 1970, fyrir hálfri öld sendi hann frá sér plötuna Tea for the Tillerman. Hann var 22 ára gamall - þetta var fjórða platan hans og hún hefur að geyma lög eins og Wild World, Where do the children play og Father and son t.d.
