We'll explore the crucial elements of sound mixing, color correction and grading, VFX, motion graphics, titles, subtitles, and markers. We'll also cover the important topic of rights and clearance. Join us as we discuss the ins and outs of bringing a film to its final, polished form. If you ask the internet “How do I get better at editing so that I can work on high end docs, commercials, branded content, and music videos?” then you'll find the same terrible advice everywhere saying, “all you need to do is practice.” But that's so vague. What are you actually practicing? Einstein said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. So if you keep practicing the same thing over and over again you'll find yourself stuck in the Perpetual Practice Loop. You'll find yourself demotivated because after working on an edit for over a week you'll watch it back and you know it can be better, but you just don't know how. The industry has an unwanted term for editors that struggle to come up with creative ideas – Button Pushers. If you want to break out of the PPL, escape the label of Button Pusher and become an In-demand Editor, then you need to excel in three skills - Efficient Workflow - Creative Storytelling - Client Relations Without Efficient Workflow you can be the best editor in the world, but if somebody can do it faster than you the client will choose them. Without Creative Storytelling you'll struggle to come up with creative ideas and you'll find yourself stuck cutting jobs you find boring. Without strong Client Relations, your income will be unpredictable and stressful. Once you have those three skills, work comes to you and you can choose the location and hours you work. In February of 2022 I released the very first episode of The Video Editing Podcast. Little did I know the kind of impact it would have on video editors across the globe. Before that I'd posted tutorials on Instagram, but that account was taken down without explanation. In 2020 I launched the YouTube channel sharing creative editing tutorials, but catering to the algorithm and not the human just didn't align with my values. After a few months of starting the podcast earlier this year, it became clear that there was an audience for it, and I knew that I had to keep going if I wanted to help. This podcast has been a journey for me personally as I found my voice. If you listen to all the episodes back-to-back you will hear how my confidence and my voice grows. I was nervous when I started and would write out a TON of notes to help me know what to talk about. And you could hear when I got lost. Now, nearly a year later I have almost zero notes, and everything is so much better for it. As we wrap up 2022, I just want to reflect and say thanks. To you. Spotify shared a few incredible stats with me:• This podcast is in the top 10 for 648 of you, top 5 for 384 of you, and this is the number 1 podcast for 63 of you!• You have made this podcast one of the top 10% most followed podcasts• You have shared this podcast so much it is in the top 15% most shared globally! Thank you! Truly this means a lot to me. There have been times where I've struggled to be consistent, but I did move country and get married, so it was difficult. My goal for the podcast in 2023 is to stay consistent and release an episode every week. This last year has been pivotal in building Unsplice and Unsplice Pro into the ultimate tool for building a successful video editing career. It's taken on a new shape which fits perfectly and is an incredibly exciting time in the journey of Unsplice. In 2023 I can't wait to hear your thoughts about what it should become and to put those thoughts into action.Thank you so much for listening and being a part of this journey.
