In this Podcast: How to continue living this summer confidently How to break up with societal pressures to lose weight How to shift your mindset to take care of yourself in a positive way, and not get caught up in comparison Let's talk about Hot Girl Summer - A lot of things have changed this past year, we've been through a lot, and some people may not be feeling so confident.  - I want to help you feel confident in your skin this summer. You don't need to wait until you reach your goal to enjoy your life.  - Some of J.Go's clients have said “no” to life because they weren't feeling confident. They've said “no” to vacations, social outings, dating, being in photos. They've been missing out on life, choosing to cover up, hide, and avoid mirrors.  - Life is too short for any of it. Life is too short to allow our size to dictate how we live our lives.  Take Action + Give Yourself Grace - You have to work at being confident every single day - You need to actively fight for that most confident self. You need to allow, hear, and lift up the highest thoughts about yourself.  - Actively call out the inner mean girl that's trying to hold you back and keep you small. - You deserve to put yourself first NOW. And not when you've reached a goal weight.   - A lot of people have gained weight, managed their mental health, and undergone so much stress and trauma this year. You got through it all. Be proud of yourself and celebrate yourself for working through that and continuing to grow through hard seasons.  When The Judgement Comes... - It's ok to have hard and messy days, they are the in between parts of your journey - Don't put yourself down, openly love and embrace them - When you're not feeling great about yourself try acknowledging those feelings. Write them down and ask, “Is this really true?” and “Does it even matter?” - Pause and focus on body acceptance. How do I feel about myself? What do I love about my body? What do I love about me? - Other people's judgement  is really just their reflection. If you want to feel confident in your skin unconditionally, Listen Up: Don't allow other people's projections to affect how you live your life. Who they think you are has nothing to do with who you can become.  Don't Wait - Your confidence cannot be tied to your weight. Your weight changes so much, it's inevitable. But you have the power to embrace yourself unconditionally, so when these changes do happen, you're not changing how you feel about yourself and your self worth. - Recognize that your confidence goes beyond the sizes and shapes of where you are in your life. You're allowed to change, but I don't want your self worth to be fully dependent on that size.  - You don't have to wait until you're a certain size to do things your most confident self would want. What would she be doing? How would she be talking to herself? What would she be wearing?  - Do something small this week that your most confident self would thank you for. Little small changes are what create long-term lifestyle change. They reprogram your brain to stop putting yourself down and lifting yourself up.  Challenge:  Commit to a #goconfident, and tag J.Go in your Instagram stories this week. First 5 who share will get something special from J.Go. The Go Retreat:  J.Go is hosting the Go Retreat, Sept 17-19, a women's Beach Retreat in Charleston.  Attendees will leave with a vision of what they want for their life and feeling empowered to accomplish their goals.  Do you feel like you need a more supportive environment? That you want to meet more supportive people? Are you feeling a calling to create change in your life but you don't know where to start - you need to be here at this event! www.jgofitlife.com/retreat  Share your biggest takeaway from this episode with Jordan @jgofitlife

The Supremes gave the green light last week to Republican moves to make it harder to vote -- that gives Democrats and voting rights groups more work to do. Harold Meyerson comments. Also: “Critical Race Theory” has been attacked on Fox News nearly 1300 times. It's being banned from public schools and colleges in something like 15 Republican states. But what IS “critical race theory”? And why is this happening now? Kimberlé Crenshaw explains; she teaches law at Columbia and UCLA, and she's probably the most prominent figure associated with critical race theory—she coined the term 30 years ago. She's also creator of the concept “intersectionality.” And the hashtag #SayHerName. Also later in the hour: our TV critic Ella Taylor talks about “Summer of Soul”, a documentary about a music festival in a park in Harlem in 1969 --it's the most powerful and moving thing I've seen about the sixties anywhere – and the story it tells was completely forgotten --the footage sat in a basement for nearly 50 years, and no one cared. Also: "No Sudden Move," a new caper film by Steven Soderbergh starring Don Cheadle and Benecio del Toro. 7-8-2021

In a postseason riddled with injuries, no team benefitted more than the Finals-bound Suns. Chris Paul, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton all had their moments, for sure, but let's not pretend like the Suns' path to the Finals was all that treacherous. Los Angeles Lakers superstar Anthony Davis missed time in round 1, Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray missed all of round 2, Utah Jazz all-star Mike Conley missed most of round 3 and Los Angeles Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard missed all of the Western Conference Finals. And you know what the funny part of all it is? Nobody will care if the Suns go on to win the championship. History only remembers who won and lost, not how things went down in the process. We speak with Billy Davis Jr. and Marilyn McCoo of The 5th Dimension, one of the many acts that performed at the festival. And, it's been one year since China passed a sweeping national security law for Hong Kong that criminalized protest and curbed the city's autonomy from mainland China. Louisa Lim of the "Little Red Podcast" joins us to discuss.

Many kinds of music are associated with one of the seasons, but ambient and environmental electronic music? — more than most. The music has to BE the season: to reflect, inhabit, and merge with the space and feeling of the seasonal environment. And when it comes to summer ambient, the pace gets slower, the harmonies get warmer, and the ethereal sounds inspire weightless floating. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, we float peacefully through the star fields on the warm breezes of a summer night, on a program called SUMMER STARS. Music is by ERIK WØLLO, SUFJAN STEVENS, STEVE ROACH, RUDY ADRIAN, and AMONGST MYSELVES. [ view playlist ] [ view Flickr image gallery ] [ play 30 second MP3 promo ]

Back with a new session after my first travels since before the pandemic started. The selections here represent a few themes from this past month, in no particular order. Starting this off is a new one from the Phi-Psonics out of LA, who dropped two 45s a couple weeks ago - I picked them up from my digging buddy Geoff during a listening session at his spot last Friday. Next is Groove Holmes doing a live version of "Song for my Father" in tribute to my dad and all the dads everywhere this past Sunday. Then there's something futuristic from Joe Armon-Jones LP from a couple years ago that I picked up while in Portland the other week. Speaking of Portland, the next cut is from Slickaphonic, one of the incredible releases from Albina Music Trust, an organization and label releasing and documenting amazing jazz and funk gems from my hometown. Then there's a fusion classic from Janne Schaffer that I'd slept on before but grabbed a copy of while digging around Portland. Finally, now that summer has officially started, I figured I'd break out my dad's 45 of Quincy Jones's version of 'Summer in the City.' Seemed appropriate. Enjoy.

258 weeks. That number has probably changed since I spoke with author Jennifer Weiner, but at the time of this interview, 258 weeks was the amount of time that her books have been on the New York Times Bestseller list. That makes up nearly a quarter of her entire career that began 20 years ago with her debut, Good In Bed . Her latest book is That Summer , the second book in what she's calling her “beach trilogy.” It's a beach read, but not in the traditional sense, as it tackles sexual assault and the #MeToo movement. I recently spoke with Jennifer Weiner about all the things. Here's our conversation. That Summer by Jennifer Weiner was published by Atria Books. Marginalia was produced at KMUW Wichita. It's an absolute Tragedy that it's taken the Right Back At Ya! boys this long to get to Steps but love (and your requests) have got a hold on our hearts, so here we are diving into one of Britain's most important pop groups of the 90s and early 2000s.Unlike a lot of the pop faves we cover, we're so lucky to still have Steps actively making music and touring to this day; but on this episode Joel and David go right back to "Step One"... literally. We cover the formation of the band with Claire Richards, Ian "H" Watkins, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Lee Latchford-Evans (aka The Latch, aka The JB's childhood heartthrob) through to the peak of their careers. When Steps burst on the scene with the boot-scootin' and line-dancing '5,6,7,8' in 1997, no one could've predicted what a phenomenon they'd become. The fantastic five swiftly went on to sell over 20 million records worldwide, clocking up 14 consecutive UK Top 5 singles, and three multi-platinum albums in three years, selling out arena shows along the way!Joel and David share memories of Steps from their childhoods in Essex and Malaysia, and what they've come to adore from the "Step One" and "Steptacular" albums over time - including all the bangers you stan from 'Last Thing On My Mind' to 'Deeper Shade of Blue', 'Tragedy' to 'One For Sorrow', 'Love's Got A Hold On My Heart', and 'Summer of Love'... just to name a few. Get out your old Steps CDs, unfold the signature choreography tutorials inside, and start reliving the magic that's Better Best (Not) Forgotten!Follow Right Back At Ya!  https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodCheck out our Spotify playlists https://open.spotify.com/user/1c3ks5jdh2x4j7jdg1o0aglwgFollow Joel https://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow David https://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmy Email us rightbackpod@gmail.com
