This week's episode is a nod to back-to-school season when teachers can get books into the hands of kids after a summer of free days, endless video games, and probably too many popsicles. We are joined by Melissa Hart from Eugene Oregon. She is the author of 2 memoirs, a middle grade book, and most recently a great resource for teachers, librarians, and parents called 'Better with Books: 500 Diverse Books to Ignite Empathy and Encourage Self-Acceptance in Tweens and Teens'. When Melissa's tween daughter was in elementary school, she dealt with anxiety and depression, and Melissa found a way to help her through reading targeted books together, a practice called bibliotherapy which some studies suggest is effective in the treatment of some forms of depression. But the list of books in 'Better With Books' can also help a young person develop empathy and be more accepting of others who have different experiences from their own such as individuals with physical disabilities, mental health struggles, body image issues, and students from different religious backgrounds. You can find find Melissa on instagram @wildmelissahart or at her website at www.melissahart.com. Books mentioned-- 1- Better with Books: 500 Books to Ignite Empathy and Encourage Self-Acceptance in Tweens and Teens by Melissa Hart 2- Pinballs by Betsy Ayers 3- What Goes Up Must Come Down by Johanna Hurwitz 4- Sugar by Jewell Parker Rhodes 5- Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo 6- The Great Gilly Hopkins by Katherine Patterson 7- The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck 8- Far From the Tree by Robin Benway 9- Ten Things I Can See From Here by Carrie Mac 10- If I Ever Get Out of Here (audiobook) by Eric Gansworth 11- Flora & Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo 12- Avenging the Owl by Melissa Hart 13- Wild Within: How Rescuing Owls Inspired a Family by Melissa Hart 14- Dune by Frank Herbert 15- Dune Messiah (Book 2) by Frank Herbert 16- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte 17- The Overstory by Richard Powers 18- There, There by Tommy Orange 19- Harry's Trees by John Cohen 20- Wishtree by Katherine Applegate 21- Pax by Sara Pennypacker 22- The One and Only Bob / The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate 23- Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter 24- Watership Down by Richard Adams Movies mentioned-- 1- Dune (October 2021), directed by Denis Villeneuve

We all remember the biggest blowout of the Pete Carroll era. The 58-0 win over the Arizona Cardinals back in 2012 was one of a string of performances by Seattle leading up to the playoffs in Russell Wilson's rookie season where everything was clicking for the team. Sandwiched between that game and the Super Bowl 48 victory is the latest win over the New York Jets. Should the Seahawks get credit for beating a team they were expected to easily defeat? We recognize some of the biggest performances on defense as well as Jamal Adams record-setting sack. Russell Wilson looked much better against the Jets than he had in previous weeks, but now the Seahawks offensive line is facing one of it's biggest tests of the season with the defensive line of the Washington Football Team. Second overall pick Chase Young is coming off a game where he recovered a fumble for a touchdown. He's one of a few pass rushers Russ will have to worry about this week. One piece of news to watch will be if Alex Smith will be able to bounce back from his injured calf this week in time for Sunday. With a win against Washington, the Seahawks can clinch a playoff berth before facing two of their division rivals in the final two weeks. We discuss why it's critical for the Seahawks to, at the very least, earn a division title this season. Jeremy calls in with a new trivia question and breaks down some of the top career rushing leaders from the wide receiver position. We get into the "greatest game of the NFL season" in Adam's Do Better as Brandan talks about the Patrick Mahomes 'futurists.'Better at life honors go to a successful space mission by Japan and to Kelly Victoria for bringing a magical world to life in the eyes of a 4-year-old girl and in return had an incredibly rewarding experience of her own after coming across a fairy garden. p>Register for the 2020 Podcast Pick'em League Pick'em League Home at CBS Sports Post 'Go Hawks' in the comments for the latest

Hi y'all, hope you are all staying healthy and safe. We're taking a vacation this week, and so we're re-publishing one of our most listened to episodes from last year, our second-ever episode where we sat down with RedThread Research's Dani Johnson. A big theme for Dani (now and then) is the importance of putting humanity back into our Learning Programs. That's a passion that feels even more relevant today in our COVID world, where digitally mediated interaction is making true human connection a little tougher, but it remains an essential goal for any Learning Leader. Though we're sure Dani doesn't need any introduction, but she is of course Co-Founder and Principal Analyst at her company, and has spent the majority of her career writing about, conducting research in, and consulting on human capital practices and technology, in such contexts as leading the Learning and Career research practice at quality brands like Bersin, as well as the Human Resource Competency Study (University of Michigan) and the RBL Group. That last gig resulted in her co-authoring the book, HR Competencies: Mastery at the Intersection of People and Business, while her great ideas and CLO community observations can be found in high-prestige L&D/CLOp publications such as CLO Magazine, HR Magazine, and Employment Relations today. PS: we are working with RedThread on an exciting new project we will announce later this month, but in the meantime, enjoy the episode, stay well--and try take a break, too!

(0:00) Show Open: Corona Virus Fatigue  Between the nationwide protests taking over the news cycle, general coronavirus fatigue, and more and more businesses reopening, we thought we'd just give everyone a quick reminder:  The pandemic is still happening. There are more than 1.8 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. and more than 106,000 deaths.  And there are still plenty of areas where the number of cases is rising.  So keep wearing your mask, watching your distance, and staying safe. A new study out of Canada has found the strongest evidence yet that keeping six feet of social distance and wearing a face mask in public really DO control the spread of coronavirus. If you stay even three feet from people, your chance of getting infected is 3% . . . if you're closer than that, it's 13%.  (10:45) Entertainment News   Lea Michele apologises over claims she 'threatened to s**t in Glee co-star's wig' Lea Michele is DROPPED by brand HelloFresh after former Glee castmate Samantha Ware accused her of threatening to drop Hella Fresh shits in her wig Emily Ratakjowski, Kristen Stewart, Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas lead the celebrities marching in Black Lives Matter protests over the killing of George Floyd   (Audio) Sharon Stone tells us how to make a panic room    Sheriff says the will of “that Bitch Carole Baskins” dead husband was actually forged.  NO!
