Crouchy also talks about how there is now more emphasis not just on staying physically fit but mentally fit in today's game compared to when him and Steve where still in the dressing room. Chris, who is currently on his own fitness and well being journey also talks about how getting down the gym is changing his outlook on life. January 10, 2024 Today we do one of my favorite things: we interview a farmer and audit their sales funnel. In today's episode, you'll hear from Adam Henson of Shady Brook Farm. Adam joined my Accelerator program this fall to build out his email nurture sequence and sales sequence for his meat sales. As you listen, I want you to hear how simple his sales funnel is. Sometimes we think that we have to have a lot of irons in the fire, but in reality, in the early years of setting up your business sales flow, you're just layering in the main players: the website, the weekly email, the nurture sequence, the product ladder, the attraction strategy and message. Although Adam will tell you he isn't at his finish line yet, I wanted to show you a farm that is well on its way. Listen for some of the strategies that are working well for him. Notice the importance of the buyer's journey at the point of sale, and knowing your customer's pain points. I'm sure you'll find some marketing gems in this episode! This podcast was sponsored by: The Thriving Farmer Podcast.  In this top-rated farm podcast, you'll learn the latest tricks and strategies of successful farmers, strategize with in-depth interviews with leaders in the industry, and connect with stories of farmers just like you. Having lived a rock and roll lifestyle as a member of one of the world's most loved bands, Blur bassist Alex James spoke to Chris Brayford about his transition from city dweller to a country farmer. The band, headed by Damon Albarn, released hit singles including 'Country House' and 'Parklife' as they clashed with Liam and Noel Gallagher's Oasis for chart dominance in the 1990s during what was christened the 'Battle of Britpop'. After falling in love with his wife in the Cotswolds roughly 20 years ago, Alex has found his niche in producing fruit and vegetables as well as cheese for Morrisons and Britpop sparkling wine. He said the popularity of food and cooking programmes such as The Great British Bake Off had helped to stimulate the nation's interest in farming. He also praised Jeremy Clarkson's impact on farming with Amazon Prime's Clarkson's Farm which had helped garner a wider appreciation for the industry, as well as the public's adoration for his co-star Kaleb Cooper. Alex now calls Diddly Squat Farm's Jeremy Clarkson a neighbour on his 200 acre Chipping Norton farm which will host this year's Big Feastival - combining Alex's love of food, music, and good times. Listen to how Alex diversified his farm, organising a festival which is expected to welcome more than 30,000 people, Mitchelin star chefs, comedians and musicians such as Rick Astley, Tom Grennan, Blossoms and Sigird all headlining the three-day event during the August bank holiday. And with Farm 24 2023 a huge success, the Farmers Guardian team look back at the event which garnered support from farmers and celebrities, including Radio 1's Greg James, Radio 2's Sara Cox, Countryfile's Adam Henson and JLS star JB Gill

If you enjoy this podcast, consider buying me a coffee: https://adamstoner.com/support World leaders have an uncanny knack for making even the most exciting of things thoroughly depressing. Given their rhetoric, you'd be forgiven for thinking that humankind is in no better position at the end of this year than we were last, but that's not the case at all. Here's a reminder of what happened: JANUARY: A riot at the US Capitol, a new President of the United States. I pledge to learn more about space, planets, and the movement of the stars and then quickly forgot about it. 86 countries sign a treaty to ban nuclear weapons. The coronavirus vaccine programme begins in earnest in the UK. FEBRUARY: NASA's Perseverance and Ingenuity rovers land on Mars. I sign up to HEY, the email service from Basecamp, and it totally revolutionises the way I work and communicate. I kit the home out with Philips Hue lightbulbs, Eve cameras, and more smart-tech. MARCH: Ever Given jackknifes itself in the Suez Canal. The remains of a woman butchered at the hands of an off-duty police officer causes outrage across the country, reigniting conversation around violence against women. I get vaccinated; a syringe symbolising the slow-at-first-then-all-at-once return to some kind of normal. With the team behind The Week Junior's Science+Nature magazine, we make Mysteries of Science. APRIL: I play croquet. I take up a bunch more freelance work. The number of confirmed COVID cases passes 150 million; the number of vaccinations surpass 1 billion. Prince Philip dies. MAY : Netherlands orders Shell to align its carbon emissions with the Paris Climate accord. The Eurovision Song contest reunites nations around the continent; it's the first since the UK exited the EU. We come last. I visit Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park, SEA LIFE, do an at-home escape room, take on an assault course, do archery, ride a heritage railway, and walk in a forest used as a set for some of the biggest movies in the world. I turn 26 and take some time offline… JUNE, JULY & AUGUST: Restrictions ease. Football fever grips the nation. The number of vaccinated people exceeds three billion. I lay the foundations for a log cabin in my garden and bury a time capsule within its concrete base. Massive floods devastate large regions of Europe. The event is attributed to a slowed jet-stream caused by climate change. The IPCC unequivocally states that climate change is human-caused, widespread, rapid, and intensifying. Two decades of foreign policy fail as the Afghan government surrenders to the Taliban; the US withdraws, ending 20 years of occupation. I come up with an idea that fulfils my new year's resolution to learn more about space and spend the next quarter planning for it. SEPTEMBER: I visit the Science Museum, We The Curious in Bristol, the Royal Observatory Greenwich, all for this project that launches in four days time. I sold my car. El Salvador becomes the first country to accept Bitcoin as an official currency. Inspiration4 is launched by Space X and becomes the first all-civilian spaceflight. I come back online and write a piece for Science+Nature all about the Overview Effect. OCTOBER: I go to the cinema for the first time in two years to see James Bond. I visit a wedding. I stroll through history by walking the Ridgeway, treading a route that's been used by thousands for millennia. NOVEMBER: World leaders gathered in Glasgow for the COP26 climate conference and emit nothing but hot air. I try NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month – and tap out 14,000 words all about humankind and its attempts to project our condition into the universe. DECEMBER: News of a new coronavirus variant seizes headlines once more. World leaders begin to hermit their kingdoms again. Vaccination efforts intensify, case numbers quintuple. I go to two Christmas parties and get a booster jab. The biggest space telescope ever built opens a new era in astronomical exploration. Our collective human story has always been marred with setbacks and challenges but 2021 is proof that the wheels of human progress will restlessly turn. It was also a reminder that it's up to us to steer the vehicle. You'll next hear from me in just a few days time on Tuesday, January 4th 2022 where I'm going to tell you about that exciting project I mentioned. Happy New Year.

He speaks to Adam Henson, best-known as a presenter on BBC One's Countryfile, about why pigs like the Gloucester Old Spot and Tamworth are important to the heritage of the UK, and explains the work his late Father Joe did to keep these breeds alive. Two of Adam's Tamworth pigs became the starting point for brothers John and Nick Francis who came to pig-keeping fresh out of university and now produce meat for a number of Michelin-starred restaurants. Robert Buttle gives Tim slices of artisan charcuterie which he produces from his Large Blacks and Oxford Sandys and explains why pork of this quality needs to be treated like the finest steak. Libby Purves meets farmer and broadcaster Adam Henson; writer Paul Spike; pilot Tracey Curtis-Taylor and theatre student Joe Langdon. Tracey Curtis-Taylor is a pilot who last year followed Amy Johnson's flight from the UK to Australia in her classic open cockpit biplane, Spirit of Artemis. Earlier this year the self-styled bird in a biplane attempted a round-the-world flight which ended when her vintage biplane lost power and crashed after take-off in the Arizona desert. She plans to be back in the skies when her plane is fully repaired. Paul Spike is a writer and journalist. His book Photographs of My Father was first published in 1973, seven years after his father, The Reverend Robert - Bob - Spike, was murdered. Bob Spike was a US church minister who was active in the civil rights movement in 1960s America alongside Martin Luther King Jr. His murder was never solved. Published by Knopf, Photographs of my Father has been reissued to mark 50 years since Bob Spike's death. Joe Langdon is studying theatre studies at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. His interest in drama was piqued when he was an inmate at a young offenders' institution. He attended workshops organised by the Bristol Old Vic as part of its outreach programme which helps young and disenfranchised people express themselves. This year the Bristol Old Vic celebrates its 250th anniversary. Adam Henson is a farmer and presenter of Adam's Farm on the BBC's Countryfile programme. He took over the Cotswold farm from his father, Joe, who as a champion of rare breeds, opened the Cotswold Farm Park in 1971 and was founder chairman of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. In his memoir, Like Farmer, Like Son Adam delves into his family's theatrical lineage - his grandfather was comedian and actor Leslie Henson and his uncle is the actor Nicky Henson. Like Farmer, Like Son is published by BBC Books. Producer: Paula McGinley.

A factual TV presenter has a very interesting relationship with the director. The director has often spent weeks or months planning and scripting from the office. A lot can change when you arrive on location. Pre-conceived ideas have to be changed when the weather, contributors or stories don’t really work in reality. Matt Baker believes that, in his experience, compromise is the key to a successful shoot. Use your ideas and your script as a framework but don’t be afraid to change your plans. It’s better to capture the atmosphere of where you are and what is unfolding on the day, plus creative problem solving often results in great TV. Resident Countryfile farmer, Adam Henson, believes that his memories of starting out and being new to TV have helped him appreciate what a strange world it can seem for new comers. It is important to remember this and have empathy with new contributors or new presenters. Take care to explain what you have planned, so they can understand why constant resetting and repitition is necessary. Once they realise that filming a variety of shots helps make a better film, they will be able to relax and contribute properly. One director suggested that Adam talk to the camera as if it is an old mate. This advice has helped him to relax and talk normally when on camera. The director should set the tone on a location shoot. It is their job to create a relaxed atmosphere resulting in a productive environment. Ellie Harrison likes directors who are collaborative and keen to incorporate ideas from the whole team. She also believes directors should have authority and be good at communicating. A good director can put contributors at ease, especially if they aren’t used to making TV. It also helps to explain what’s going to happen so they don’t feel excluded or overwhelmed. Finally, Ellie favours creative direction, similar to techniques used by drama directors. Ellie appreciates personal feedback from the director on her style and delivery of each piece to camera. However, it's important to remember that each presenter responds differently, so directors must be able to adapt to the individual ways of working.
