Businesses that import meat could have to pay up to six times more than they were expecting to get each lorry through border checks; that's according to the British Meat Processors Association. Since April businesses that import through Dover and the Eurotunnel through Folkestone have been paying what's called a Common User Charge.Bracken is a large and very prolific fern, and it can be a big problem for farmers, particularly in the uplands. It eats into grazing land, it harbours ticks and it's difficult to control, especially since last autumn when Asulox, the only herbicide used to kill it, became permanently withdrawn from the UK and Europe. The Innovative Farmers Network has just started trialling non-chemical approaches to bracken control, one of which involves using cattle to trample it. Curlew are an iconic and beautiful bird of moorland and wetland areas, but curlew numbers have diminished significantly over the last few decades, placing them firmly on the RSPB's red list. Asylum Speakers Podcast with Jaz O'Hara: Stories of Migration
The final part of the story!!!Welcome back to the Asylum Speakers Podcast! I can't believe it's been so long since the last episode, and so much has happened since then… and that's what this episode is here to fill you in on today!!!If you haven't yet listened to the last episode that we put out, (about my foster brother Mez trying everything to get his younger biological brother Josi safely to the UK), I would highly recommend you go back and listen to that episode, because it sets the context for today's episode. To give you a brief overview…Mez left his country of Eritrea as an unaccompanied child, fleeing compulsory military service, nearly 10 years ago, crossing the Sahara, the Mediterranean sea and hiding underneath the Eurotunnel train to make it to the safety of the UK, where he became my foster brother. (He shares that whole journey in Season One of this podcast if you want to go back and listen). A few years after Mez left, his younger brother Josi also fled Eritrea for the same reasons. He too crossed the Sahara, after which he got stuck in Libya, where he tried several times to cross the mediterranean sea unsuccessfully. Here, he had a very difficult time, facing modern day slavery, forced imprisonment and many other life-threatening risks. During this time, Mez was doing everything he could to bring Josi to us and our family in the UK, safely and legally. It was a long and painful process that at times seemed impossible. In today's episode, you will be hearing the climax of this journey, the most incredible reunion of Mez and his brother Josi, and what life has been like since they found their way back to each other after ten years aart and many, many challenges. You'll hear from Mez, my mum, Mez and Josi's immigration lawyer and most importantly... Josi himself!Let us know what you think of this episode by sending us a message on InstagramTo support the show and help us to keep bringing you these stories: https://www.patreon.com/asylumspeakers Hosted on Acast.
Heuer, Christine www.deutschlandfunk.de, Kalenderblatt

On today's show, Prof. Gloria Moss discusses education and how it has been corrupted at both school and higher education levels, but can also speak on the topic of the falsification of history. GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: Katie has been a civil litigator for over 20 years, first in New Zealand and then in Australia. As a generalist civil litigator at first, Katie cut her teeth in employment, medico-legal, regulatory disputes, and all jurisdictional courts work before specializing in class actions and large matters. In mid-2021, Katie took a sabbatical for a year. Taking some time away from the construction team she was working for in Melbourne, Katie became concerned with what she saw as significant breaches to fundamental human rights and the failure to uphold cornerstone principles of the law. Cutting the sabbatical short, Katie joined Voices For Freedom New Zealand, a grassroots organization that assisted thousands of people who were mandated out of work and suffering other human rights violations, as their head of legal. Katie has been involved in many of the cases around mandates in New Zealand and the mRNA Covid19 products on both sides of the Tasman. Katie was a legal case manager on the kids' case in New Zealand, which is when she met Julian Gillespie and Peter Fam (through mutual experts). Following which she quickly threw her support behind the AVN and Babies' Cases in Australia when she joined PJ O'Brien & Associates. More recently, Katie is the solicitor on the record for the GMO case against Pfizer and Moderna in Australia and has been actively engaging with the US, New Zealand, and Australian governments to inform them on the UN and WHO Pandemic Treaties. Katie's focus is to ensure that the injustices and breaches of the fundamental legal principles that have occurred over the last four years not be allowed to occur again: for humanity's sake, history cannot repeat. GUEST 2 OVERVIEW: Professor Moss is a professor of Management and Marketing at Buckinghamshire New University and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD). She has a background as a Training and Development Manager for Courtaulds and Eurotunnel and has undertaken funded research on Inclusive Leadership in industry and in Higher Education as well as research examining the impacts of nationality, personality, and gender on leadership and marketing decisions. Insbsondere Rhossili und Three Cliffs Bay. Resort Spotlight: Les 7 Laux (Les Sept Laux) LOCATION Very close to the city of Grenoble, just up in the Belledonne mountain range in the Dauphiné Alps. Drive into the city of Grenoble in around 30-40 minutes traffic permitting and the airport is just over a one hour's drive away too. Chambery is also just 50 kms away, so another option for flying in and then driving from Calais would normally take about 8.5 hours. The train would be London-Paris-Lyon-Grenoble and then a taxi or a bus from there. Not too difficult because you get pretty close in Grenoble and whilst that might not be for everyone...could do a nice little stop over on the way too. THE SKI AREA There's 120 km's of ski trails that link up three separate villages, there's about 22 ski lifts, mostly chairs and some drag lifts plus a gondola too, and 90% of the lifts are 10 years old or newer. Within that 120 km's there's 45 individual ski trails that include green, blue, red and black, so genuinely something for every level of skier and snowboarder . It is mostly blues and reds, but there's 7 black runs so pretty significant and it has the largest freeride area in the region including the The Vallons du Pra trail which is basically a marked off-piste route. The beginner's terrain is extensive and separate from the main ski area and then there's a nice progression onto green runs after that. The majority of runs are blue and red so we are talking about all this freeride terrain but at the end of the day it's beginners and intermediates that actually get the best deal here. SKI SCHOOLS There's the ESF, ESI: Pro 7 school that also offers freestyle and freeride lessons and a dedicated snowboard school called Slash and another called Easy Riders. They all say they have English speaking instructors.SNOW RECORDVillage is 1350, and it goes up to 2400 metres, that's more than a 1,000 metre vertical and with its location they get good snowfalls through the winter and well into spring here. A lot of the slopes are north westerly facing so they hold the snow well.THE VILLAGES The main village is Prapoutel and it's where most of the accommodation and facilities are. It's mostly self-catered accommodation and there's a good choice of both value and higher end places to stay and it's easy to walk around – it's not tiny in any sense but it's not like a massive town either. It does have that sort of purpose built feel, but in a nice way and the views across the valley are fantastic. Why is it called Les 7 (seven) Laux?It was founded in the 1960's / 70's by a group formed of 7 communes in the area.Where do I go for a pint?O'Bar BUWhat about a bit of Tartiflette ?Le Rocher Blanc Prices for the actual holiday?A starting price of around £1500 for the whole apartment for a week and that includes a return Eurotunnel fare peakretreats.co.uk or call them on 023 9283 9310Peak Retreats is the French Alps specialist and they have been organising holidays in the French Alps for over 20 years. A restaurant owner in Dover says potential customers are being left with nowhere to park because people are leaving their cars in spaces for days at a time. He's calling for ANPR cameras to be installed to weed out problem parkers. Also in today's podcast, there's grim predictions that we could see three years of Operation Brock on the M20 when the new Entry/Exit systems are introduced at the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel. The post-Brexit checks will be put in place in October, sparking fears of 14 hour backlogs and traffic chaos. A mum from Ramsgate has stepped in to save the life of a stranger she found injured and bleeding in the street. Despite having no first-aid training, she was able to perform CPR and kept the victim alive until paramedics arrived. A former church youth worker from Sandwich has been snapped on camera snatching precious jewellery during a break-in at a neighbour's home. The dad-of-six had been using the house to hide from bailiffs when he "succumbed to temptation". And in football, you can hear from Maidstone manager George Elokobi after their win over Stevenage in the FA Cup. The one - nil victory puts them through to the fourth round for the first time in history.

Christian and co-presenter Mark Walker consider the transport news and policy highlights of their first year of podcasting [1:10]. Christian celebrates 30 years of Eurotunnel operations with John Keefe, Chief Corporate and Public Affairs Officer at Getlink Group, asking what the future holds for the conveyance of road vehicles, growth in passenger train usage and expansion of rail freight traffic [5:33]. This is followed by a frank discussion with Sir John Armitt CBE, Chair of the UK National Infrastructure Commission, who reveals his organisation was not consulted about the abandonment of HS2 north of Birmingham in October, that he considers the sale of the acquired land unwise and that Great Britain now needs a new Integrated Rail Plan [24:39]. Finally, Christian praises the work and longevity of London's Railway Modelling Club Library [42:57].
A pub landlord who's thought to be the youngest in Kent has spent £50,000 revamping his old local.Kyle Blair went to The Black Horse on Bean High Street with his parents growing up, and became the landlord when he was just 20.Also in today's episode, a driving instructor from Deal who was found asleep at the wheel following a drinking session has been fined and banned from driving.Former police officer Mitchell Humphrys, who ran Mitch's School of Motoring, was reported by his ex-wife after going out to the pub in July.A £2.5 billion theme park earmarked for north Kent looks like it could be completely scrapped.Plans for London Resort on the Swanscombe Peninsula have already stalled, and now council bosses in Dartford are calling on the government to strip the site of its Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project status. It is claimed nearly £70 million has been invested into post-Brexit border checks at the Eurotunnel in Folkestone. The system has been severely delayed, but when it does come in, it should mean a faster check in process for passengers.Residents in part of Canterbury have criticised plans for a new A2 slip road.Developers behind the nearby Saxon Fields estate in Thanington have a duty to built it, to reduce congestion in the area, but not everyone thinks it will work. And in football, hear from Gillingham manager Stephen Clemence after their disappointing defeat in league 2 over the weekend. They were beaten 2-0 by Bradford at Priestfield, and have slipped down to 10th in the table.
In this edition a message from spirit is about "The Universe Meets You Half Way" Information and meditation on a method of the way spirit communicates with you telling you that the Universe will met you about half way if you really want something. This podcast talks about the idea that if you want something from your soul the thing that you want also wants you too. When two people that love each other that see each other at the airport they run towards each other to meet in the middle to embrace and welcome each other. We don't take the whole trip to manifesting all by ourselves. This is a great message which you must hear.In this podcast we used the Aura Clearing Tuning Fork & Drums Meditation: https://raisingyourspiritsmeditation.buzzsprout.com/2122250/12120339-aura-clearing-with-tuning-forks-drums this will help you connect you to spirit. This soundtrack is excellent to help clear heavier energies within you so you can stay in the higher realms longer because it will feel like you belong there.Tony channels spirit to illustrate the concept that the Universe will meet with you half way just like the EuroTunnel that was built in the 1990's between England and France. There is a beautiful example here and story of two nations wanting to connect with each other underneath the most dangerous waters of the English Channel.Support the showPlease do not operate heavy machinery, drive, ride, or do activity while the podcast is on as it will alter your state in a more meditative state of receiving. Today I introduce to you Mez, a young, courageous refugee with an extraordinary story. When he was just 13 years old, Mez fled his home in Eritrea to escape some of the worst human rights conditions in the world, including forced military conscription and widespread persecution, starting a perilous journey as a child refugee across the world. For an entire year, Mez experienced the chaos and terror of refugee camps, experiencing extreme and treacherous conditions that would leave him scared and struggling to get enough to eat. The physical environment was equally as dangerous, almost killing him on multiple occasions; from almost starving while travelling across the Sahara desert, to surviving a boat capsize in the Mediterranean sea, to hiding underneath a Eurotunnel train to get to the UK. Since arriving safely in the UK with just the clothes on his back, Mez's life has completely transformed for the better. Fostered by the family of Jaz O'Hara, who has also featured on my podcast, Mez has gone on to remarkably learn English, pass his GCSEs and inspire others with his truly humbling story. Now Mez aspires to follow his dreams of becoming a mechanic while still continuing to raise awareness of the ‘life, death and limbo' of the refugee crisis.Find out more about Mez and other stories like his: https://open.spotify.com/show/6xqOyOQIfQzF7NRkEaLTRN?si=ba373a23fd5242aa Hosted on Acast.
