One of the best things about founding and developing Prenatal Yoga Center has been getting the chance to foster and grow our perinatal community. Throughout the months during (and after) their pregnancy, our students and staff get to know each other through rich dialogue where we work through things that come up, connect on shared experiences, and learn from different ones! Being so invested in their journey leading up to birth, I always feel fortunate when I get to hear how baby came into the world. So today, we have one of my favorite episode types: a community birth story. On today's episode of Yoga| Birth| Babies, we have former prenatal student Alicia Krakauer. Alicia is a born and bred New Yorker, a musical theater actress, and singer songwriter. After finishing her graduate degree at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, she met her husband Liam back in 2014. They now live back in her hometown of NYC, and have just welcomed their first baby boy, Alastair, who was born at Lenox Hill just like his mommy! Alicia gets candid about the twists and turns that occurred in her birth and gives wonderful advice on how to process duality; allowing the space for more than one thing to be true, in both birth and postpartum. This is such an organic conversation, and I can't wait for you to hear it. Get the most out of each episode by checking out the show notes with links, resources and other related podcasts at: prenatalyogacenter.com (*hyperlink episode link from Wordpress!) Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Daniel Arbon, Filmmaker, “Hawker” About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Daniel Arbon, is a filmmaker from the United Kingdom who has produced a number of short films entitled, “Ironheart”, “Plated”, “White Feather”, and now, his brand new film entitled, “Hawker”, which he wrote, produced and directed.   This short film tells the true story of Major Lanoe Hawker, who was Britain's first World War 1 "Ace" pilot, and a pioneer of early aviation combat.  The movie focuses on the activities of July 25th, 1915, when Hawker, who was at that time a Captain, became the first British pilot to successfully shoot down an enemy aircraft, by mounting a Lewis Gun to the side of his Bristol Scout airplane.    This ambitious and exciting film, which is being released on November 23, was a labour of love for our guest, whose interest in aviation originated when he trained in Aerospace Manufacturing.  He went on to be an Officer Cadet at RMA Sandhurst, and after his discharge from the British Army, he began his career in the arts as an actor, graduating from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in 2011.   After appearing in 7 films, he turned his attention to writing, producing and directing, and in 2016 he formed his own production company called Middle Realm Productions.   For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Daniel Arbon, go to:https://www.hawkerfilm.comhttps://www.facebook.com/MiddleRealmProductions/https://www.instagram.com/middle_realm_productionshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogrI8KM3iN8 #DanielArbon  #harveybrownstoneinterviews

She does involve these techniques in one on one learning for people of all ages.  When we're in yoga postures, we often work on the core - without overworking it. We can listen to our bodies and take on modifications.  Yoga calms your nervous system which is fantastic for overall focus as well. It's easy to read a textbook that tells you where things are on your body and how they should move, but yoga creates physical awareness. It also highlights that everyone is different in terms of movement and flexibility. To be insured as a yoga teacher, you must be certified; however, you can carefully incorporate yoga techniques into your singing teaching if you understand how they will benefit students.    BEST MOMENTS ‘It can change you having a regular practice'  ‘Just getting moving is fantastic'  ‘Connecting to the breath helps us move more efficiency'  ‘You don't need anything to become a beginner'    EPISODE RESOURCES  BAST Training    Guest Website: www.voxyoga.co.uk www.rosiesecker.co.uk   Social Media:  @voxyogawithrosie   Relevant Links & Mentions:  Focus On The Body & The Singer Event: https://www.basttraining.com/event/focus-on-the-body-and-the-singer/ Yoga for Singers by Linda Lister  Vocal Yoga Teacher Certification with Heather Lyle: vocalyoga.com Vocal Yoga: The Joy of Breathing, Singing and Sounding by Heather Lyle  Yoga and Singing by Judith E Carman Vocal Health Education: vocalhealtlh.co.uk BAST Training: basttraining.com Thomas Myers: Myofascial Release  Vox Yoga Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/VoxYoga   ABOUT THE GUEST  Rosie trained with the vocal department at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating with a First Class BMus (Hons). Through training in these contrasting styles, Rosie became fascinated in how the voice worked and started studying vocal anatomy and physiology. She is represented by Lee Morgan Management (London).   Find more of Karen: Instagram: @karenann_wongdorall Twitter: @KWongDorall Website: https://www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/3018-5646-7283   A Statement from Karen “I come from a very mixed background and as a Eurasian girl growing up in Singapore, I guess I've never truly felt “complete” in my identity. My life in many ways has been a journey of curiosity about the world, the search for “my people” and places where I could fit in, but above all, it has been about self-discovery and self-acceptance. During the lockdown period Switzerland, I began writing personal pieces. This piece, entitled “My Patchwork Self” is an exploration of my “mixedness”: my struggle with displacement, homesickness and the desperate insecurity I experience as I try to assert my own true, authentic self. I have used Batik, a uniquely-intricate and eclectically-patterned fabric of Southeast Asia as a metaphor for the complex beauty and “home” I yearn for and the vulnerability that goes along with feeling like an outsider.”   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Created during a time of quarantine in the global Coronavirus pandemic, A Moment Of Your Time's mission is to provide a space for expression, collaboration, community and solidarity. Libby Purves meets farmer and broadcaster Adam Henson; writer Paul Spike; pilot Tracey Curtis-Taylor and theatre student Joe Langdon. Tracey Curtis-Taylor is a pilot who last year followed Amy Johnson's flight from the UK to Australia in her classic open cockpit biplane, Spirit of Artemis. Earlier this year the self-styled bird in a biplane attempted a round-the-world flight which ended when her vintage biplane lost power and crashed after take-off in the Arizona desert. She plans to be back in the skies when her plane is fully repaired. Paul Spike is a writer and journalist. His book Photographs of My Father was first published in 1973, seven years after his father, The Reverend Robert - Bob - Spike, was murdered. Bob Spike was a US church minister who was active in the civil rights movement in 1960s America alongside Martin Luther King Jr. His murder was never solved. Published by Knopf, Photographs of my Father has been reissued to mark 50 years since Bob Spike's death. Joe Langdon is studying theatre studies at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. His interest in drama was piqued when he was an inmate at a young offenders' institution. He attended workshops organised by the Bristol Old Vic as part of its outreach programme which helps young and disenfranchised people express themselves. This year the Bristol Old Vic celebrates its 250th anniversary. Adam Henson is a farmer and presenter of Adam's Farm on the BBC's Countryfile programme. He took over the Cotswold farm from his father, Joe, who as a champion of rare breeds, opened the Cotswold Farm Park in 1971 and was founder chairman of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. In his memoir, Like Farmer, Like Son Adam delves into his family's theatrical lineage - his grandfather was comedian and actor Leslie Henson and his uncle is the actor Nicky Henson. Like Farmer, Like Son is published by BBC Books. Producer: Paula McGinley.
