This week Pastor Charles and Florence Mugisha joins us as guest speakers from Rwanda. Charles and Florence Mugisha were born to Rwandan families living as refugees in Uganda. Charles' parents fled Rwanda after the first genocide in 1959. Charles began to attend church in a neighboring village and gave his life to Christ. Just a few weeks later, Charles joined with other young people and began preaching the gospel on the streets. Charles and Florence met while attending Reformed Theological College in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. While Florence was planting a campus church, Charles began ministry in a nearby suburb of Kampala in Gaba to work with a church planter. Although the spiritual opposition in that village was strong, Charles and his mentor, Pastor Peter Kasirivu, prayed and persevered in their ministry. Eventually, a church was established, and hundreds of people started coming to Christ. Today, a church of more than 2,000 people and various ministries serving the poor are in that community. Charles and Florence attended Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon, where they both acquired master's degrees. In 2001, while pursuing his degree, Charles wrote the ministry plan for Africa New Life. That summer, he and Florence returned to Rwanda to see what God wanted to do through them and the ministry. When they returned to the U.S. the next semester, Charles and Florence brought 30 pictures of children who needed sponsorship, and the ministry was born. Today, Africa New Life provides for 11,000 students who are working toward a high school education, vocational training, or a university degree. Florence knew that young girls without education were particularly at risk to become abused by their employers. In response, she founded a ministry within Africa New Life called New Life Family Center, which provides vocational training and spiritual rehabilitation for women. Many of these young women are genocide survivors, and the Family Center also provides counseling and reconciliation for women of various ethnic backgrounds learning to work together. Florence's ministry both through Africa New Life and beyond empowers women to overcome personal pain and a lack of education to pull themselves out of poverty and live to their fullest potential. Charles completed his doctorate through Gordon-Conwell Seminary in 2015 and continues to serve as the lead pastor of New Life Bible Church in Kigali and as the President of Africa New Life. Florence serves as the Director of Women's Ministries for Africa New Life and is a motivational speaker and a dynamic communicator of the good news of Jesus Christ. Together, Charles and Florence are raising their five children, Isaac, Jonathan, Sarah, Bella and Joseph. THE BEST WAY TO FIND YOURSELF IS TO LOSE YOURSELF IN THE SERVICE OF OTHERS.” Mahatma Gandhi What is it you’re really chasing in life? I’ve pondered this question myself countless times both alone and with others. The theme always seems to be the same. We’re all looking to feel accepted and fulfilled in who we are and what we do. Unfortunately, while chasing acceptance and fulfillment, we often fall into what’s called “The Rat Race.” We look for that next big job, fight for those promotions, purchase the big house and upgrade our lives continuously, waiting for that desperate feeling of completion. We cry from our mountain top: “Do you love me now!?” Unfortunately, many of us rarely make it to our personal mountain top and for those that do, find the view to be a bit anticlimactic. Maybe that’s because we realize that it’s not the mountain top we wanted. It’s the feeling we thought it would give us that we long for. “MANY MEN GO FISHING ALL OF THEIR LIVES WITHOUT KNOWING THAT IT IS NOT FISH THEY ARE AFTER.” Henry David Thoreau What if there was a different way to discover your gifts and live a life of joy and fulfillment? Imagine for a second there was a way to feel loved and accepted right now regardless of your social or economic status. What if I told you it’s as easy as looking for someone to serve? My guest today, John Constantine, President & CEO of Arcpoint Labs has seen the mountain top both literally and figuratively. (This man is adventurous!) However, being the leader of a full-service national third-party provider/administrator of diagnostic testing is just the tip of Johns Iceberg. It doesn’t take long to feel the caring and giving spirit that fills John’s heart and pushes him to pour into everyone around him. John is the type of person who looks at someone in need and says: “LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO!” John Constantine For many of us, the concept of pouring into others to feel better about ourselves may seem counterintuitive. However, after listening to John for just a few moments, you’ll start to see the true meaning behind it all. Loving and serving others is the best way to love and serve ourselves. You see, it’s truly not about ourselves. It’s about leading a life of service for others and being to the world what Jesus was to them. As John sums it up… “BE ME TO THEM” Jesus You’re going to want to listen to today’s episode with a pen and paper nearby. John beautifully shares his adventure of dropping out of college, working different jobs, meeting his wife, saying no to a dream offer, and deciding to live a life of service above all else. I can honestly say, we need more people like John Constantine in this world. Be sure to connect and follow John’s ventures below! A Special end-of-year message from Pastor Charles Mugisha of Africa New Life.
Dominic Done sits down with Charles Mugisha, the founder of Africa New Life, to discuss his story, the Rwandan genocide, and the healing he has experienced even after living much of his life in war-torn countries, as a refugee and as a child soldier. Charles was born to a Rwandan family living as refugees in Uganda. His parents fled Rwanda after the first genocide in 1959. Life was not easy for refugees in a war-stricken Uganda under the rule of several dictators. It was during this time that Charles learned how to pray.As the war came to an end, Charles wanted to return to school. Desperate for an education he began praying in his own words. As tears poured down his face Charles felt connected to God for the first time. He began to attend church in a neighboring village and gave his life to Christ. Just a few weeks later, Charles joined with other young people and began preaching the gospel on the streets. After attending College in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, Charles began ministry in a nearby suburban of Kampala in Gaba to work with a church planter. Although the spiritual opposition in that village was strong, Charles and his mentor, Pastor Peter Kasirivu prayed and persevered in ministry. Eventually, a church was established and hundreds of people started coming to Christ. Today a church of more than 2,000 people and various ministries to the poor are in that community. In the early nineties, Charles was a missionary in England and Northern Ireland. In 1995, after the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, Charles returned to his family in Uganda and discovered that his father had returned to Rwanda. Charles followed. Even though the war had ended, Charles saw signs of death everywhere. When he saw the orphaned, widowed and homeless, Charles knew he had to do something to help these people.Charles received an invitation to attend Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. With the help of churches and individuals, Charles arrived in the U.S. with his wife, Florence, and their son, Isaac. His burden to help Rwandan children, refugees and the genocide survivors remained on his heart. In 2001, while in seminary, Charles wrote the ministry plan for Africa New Life. And that summer he and Florence returned to Rwanda to see what God wanted to do with them and through the ministry. When they returned the U.S. for the next semester, Charles and Florence brought 30 pictures of children who needed to be sponsored and the ministry was born.Today Africa New Life provides for more than 10,000 children on track toward high school graduation, vocational training, or a university degree.Charles completed his Doctorate through Gordon Conwell Seminary in 2015. Together, he and Florence are raising their four children, Isaac, Jonathan, Sarah, and Joseph, in Rwanda.Resources:Africa New Life When Faith Fails: Finding God in the Shadow of DoubtWe'd love to hear from you! pursuingfaithpodcast@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/pursuingfaith)

Today’s conversation is with my friend, Natalie Green. Natalie is an incredible mom who entered into motherhood in a way that some might see as unique or out of the ordinary. In this episode, we talk about her experience with adoption & fertility treatments as a single woman, the support she received from her family, and how her faith has emboldened her to continue to take brave steps forward in all areas of life. We also talk a lot about her job through Africa New Life and how her decision to sponsor a child has added to her family. Matt from Africa New Life Julie's IF Rwanda experience Enric Sifa shares music and stories ...
This month, the nation of Rwanda remembered the genocide that occurred 21 years April. It was a horrible atrocity that ravaged this tiny African nation. Yet, in the aftermath, stories of hope began to emerge. Enric Sifa was one of those stories. Orphaned in Rwanda, Enric survived years on the streets of Kigali as a young child until he was found and sponsored by an organization called Africa New Life. Being one who enjoyed music, he was then gifted with a guitar. Only knowing a few chords, Enric wrote a song and entered a nationwide competition. He won. Now Enric is married and finishing up his college degree. He travels around singing songs and talking to people about his story. We had the pleasure of having Enric on our show previously. We invite you to listen in on that conversation here..
