Do you ever wish you could simply start over, or that you had a second chance? Maybe you feel like your life is “too far gone,” that there's no hope of ever going back to what could've been. But there is good news to be found in 2 Corinthians 5:16-17, which says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old is gone, the new is here!”” There is always a chance for a fresh start, as our God meets you with compassion, grace and beautiful mercy.  Pastor Herman Mendoza came up through some tough years growing up in Queens, NY, enduring abuse from his father, and finding it hard to find connection from his peers. He ultimately chose to get involved in gang activity and drug trafficking, which brought him the power and sense of connection he had always wanted, but also ended up with run-ins with authorities, and ultimately jail time that he couldn't negotiate his way out of. He shares how God changed his path to become a force for good in a place where goodness isn't easily found. Stephen Arterburn, founder of New Life Ministries, has a focus of transformation with God's truth and a genuine desire to see parents shepherd their children well through the pitfalls of the online world. He shares helpful guidance for parents seeking to mentor their children in this screen-saturated time.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: John & Stasi Eldredge Upcoming interview: Levi Lusko www.ReadRelief.com 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NIV   Herman Mendoza Promise Ministries International Powerhouse Kids Rikers Island Proverbs 26:11 NIV Drug Enforcement Agency www.hermanmendoza.com   Stephen Arterburn New Life Ministries New Life Live Jesus Calling for kids www.stephenarterburn.com Understanding and Loving Your Child In a Screen-Saturated World Interview Quotes: “This was all God setting everything up. He would have it no other way.” - Herman Mendoza “For the very first time it wasn't about me. It wasn't about excuses. It wasn't about negotiating with God. It was about the wrongs that I've done and that Jesus paid the price for my sins and that He can make it alright, even though the sins that I was committing, there's a price to pay for them, and I had to pay that price.” - Herman Mendoza  “There's hope in Jesus Christ. God is amazing, and when you seek Him, you will find Him. and He will change your life forever.” - Herman Mendoza  “You have to come to that place where you have to know Jesus first. He will navigate you through life's obstacles and life's challenges. God enables me to have freedom through prayer, to talk to Him and and for Him to remind me that He loves me. He's with me, and the Holy Scriptures are there to guide me each and every day.” - Herman Mendoza  ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Whether it’s our kids and screens or our college students being led away from the values we instilled in them, our kids are being kidnapped by outside forces. Stephen Arterburn, founder and chairman of New Life Ministries, host of #1 nationally syndicated Christian counseling talk show, New Life Live!, and founder of Women of Faith conferences is with us to talk about his newest books Understanding and Loving Your Child in a Screen-Saturated World and Understanding and Loving Your College Student. Steve suggests that along with limiting screen time we also get involved with our kids in screen time. That being said, there is no substitute for face to face, relationship building time with your child. Steve also shares that if you’re sending your kids off to college, it’s important to know your child. Will they need to hear from you daily? Or do they need a week to make friends before a phone call? Encourage them to engage with the activities offered on their campus to help them to meet other people and get the most out of the college experience. It’s also important to note that college isn’t for everyone. What would best set your child up for fulfilling God’s call on their life? Shawna challenges us to move from celebrating what we know to putting it into practice. Next, the gavel has come down. You’re guilty. You’re about to face the penalty, and the judge does something unprecedented. Perry admits, “There are moments I fear I’ve disqualified myself from being at God’s table.” Last, Shawna shares a story of hearing from God and learning to obey what He’s said.Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Helping You Win the War Within Before You Go To Battle for the ChurchThis jam-packed session with Pastor Steve Arterburn M Ed. is a must-watch event!About our Guest: Pastor Steve ArterburnMINISTRY:  Stephen Arterburn is a respected innovator dedicated to helping transform lives with God's truth all over the world.   In 1988 Arterburn founded New Life Treatment Centers, a venture-capital funded organization providing Christian psychiatric and addiction treatment in secular psychiatric hospitals. Because of the impact, growth, and profitability of this organization Stephen was awarded the Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst and Young, Merrill Lynch, and Inc. Magazine.  He quickly grew that extremely profitable organization to $100,000,000 in revenues before it was purchased by Thomas Nelson Publishers. At that time, he spun off “New Life Ministries” into the current, not-for-profit ministry producing the number-one syndicated Christian counseling talk show, “New Life Live”. Many people in remote locations say it is the only wise counsel available to them.New Life has maintained its focus on three principles since 1988: true truth, redemptive relationship and total transformation. New Life has a network of 1,000 Christian counselors and therapists around the country who help the thousands of people who call 800 NEWLIFE.  What used to be done in hospitals and treatment centers happens now in weekend intensives involving both therapists and speakers.  Every Man's Battle, Restore for women who have been betrayed, Emotional Freedom and Intimacy In Marriage are some of the intensive weekend events conducted by New Life. Steve Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeSteve/New Life Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/newlifemin/Steve Twitter: @SteveArterburnNew Life Twitter: @NewLifeInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/newlifelive/Instagram for Steve: https://www.instagram.com/therealstephenarterburn/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/newlifeliveLife Recovery Groups Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/liferecoverygroups/Life Recovery Groups Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/liferecoverygroups/

Is there anything that has not been written about biblical manhood? Books, articles, and videos abound with calls for men to demonstrate character, integrity, authenticity, and especially “servant leadership.” In an attempt to not write what has already been written over and over again, I present the following ideas. First, the term servant leadership is an inaccurate and inadequate description of Paul's instructions to men in the fifth chapter of Ephesians. A “servant leader” stoops to serve only when he chooses to do so; it is a very tidy role with a narrow focus on serving others. Yet it is already obvious to most Christian men that they need to avoid misinterpreting Scripture as a call to biblical de... _ Stephen Arterburn is the founder and chairman of New Life Ministries, the nation's largest faith-based broadcast, counseling, and treatment ministry. Today, we have a panel of courageous people who are going to share their amazing transformations with us and how the power of forgiveness freed them from self-bondage. First, I want to dedicate this show to a woman who selflessly shared her story with me and it convicted me so to the point where it changed the trajectory of my life. Her name is Sis Josephine Prescott. In short, her abuser was her husband and an event with gunshots left her a quadriplegic for over 30 years of her life. In short, she lived her life for God and with no excuses. She founded a foundation for domestic abuse, she finished a college degree, she was a home owner, she was an avid speaker for domestic abuse...all while being paralyzed from neck down. She forgave her ex-husband, she shared that story with me, and that story convicted me and changed my life. Because she paid it forward, I live to do the same. We have Valerie Champion, a mother, grandmother, author, christian coach, prayer warrior, producer of the Mama Goose Podcast, and travel agency owner. Valerie's story a few weeks ago with her experience with child molestation blessed the airwaves and sparked the need for this discussion on forgiveness. We also have LaShanda Williams, wife mother, life/mentor coach, author, evangelist, and owner of the Two Become One marriage ministry. Lashanda was actually just interviewed earlier today with her story of molestation, sexual, physical, and verbal abuse and shared how forgiveness healed, delivered, and made her whole. We also have Tyra Edwards-Rowell, wife, mother, counselor, teacher, author, producer of Hot but Bothered podcast w/ her husband, founder of Issues of Life, Inc, founder of Issues of Life Coach Certification program, and the proud owner of Innovatively Assisting You - a virtual assistance company. Tyra is here to discuss infidelity in a previous marriage and her journey with forgiveness in this area. We have Bishop Gerald Haynes of New Life Ministries of Aiken in Aiken, SC. He's a husband, dad, grandfather, and an honest servant of God. A man who selflessly gives of himself to see people saved. Aside from God, He and his wife are part of the reason I am here today. We are going to start the conversation off with each person briefly telling their what, their how, and their why. What transpired in their life, how they overcame and forgave, and why they forgave. I’m honored to bring you a final episode in a weekly series I’ve released this May in honor of Mother’s Day and the Mother’s Quest Manifesto Challenge I facilitated in the private group. The other morning, as I searched my intuition for what episode to end the month with, in a flash I thought about this conversation with my friend Jenjii Hysten. At the 40 minute mark, the discussion, real and vulnerable, in which we talk about not only our differences as women of different races and religions, but also our common humanity as mothers of sons, still stands out as one of the most powerful moments in now over 60 conversations I’ve recorded. So much has changed since we released that episode. Trump, recently elected at the time of recording, of course has now been President for several years and his administration has only deepened the divides and injustices that were already with us. My son Ryan did decide to visit Jenjii and Franklin’s ministry, an experience that profoundly touched him and impacted the speech he shared at his bar mitzvah, a beautiful event that Jenjii and Franklin attended with their two sons. All our boys are now years older, and all deepened their own social awareness in ways both painful and empowering. And Jenjii and I have each stepped into our own activism in different ways, each committing to powerful conversations to build bridges of awareness, understanding and transformation. Ones that I’ve recorded with Mothers Against Police Brutality co-founder Sara Mokuria and with Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton are linked here. Jenjii says that she is still committed to Living out Loud, the guiding theme you’ll hear her talk about. But now she has a much clearer sense of what that really means. She is currently writing a book, and though she and her husband decided to close their ministry, their consulting business is thriving, they’ve joined another church where they preach, and she says she has learned that her life is her ministry. When we spoke today to catch up, I told Jenjii that sounded to me like one powerful Manifesto and possibly the title of her book. Whether you heard it once before, or its new to you, I hope you enjoy this episode. And that these reflections and the conversation that follows may spark you to claim your own manifesto, to reach out to build your own bridges of awareness and connection, and to live your own Life Out Loud.  Much appreciation, P.S. Know someone who would love this conversation? Click forward now to pay this forward to a friend who may be interested. Living Out Loud with Jenjii Hysten I am honored to bring you this intimate, inspired conversation with Jenjii Hysten, a mother, coach, and community leader who I deeply admire. I have known Jenjii for almost a decade now, through my connection with her husband Franklin. But in recent months, Jenjii’s raw and vulnerable sharing about what it is like to be the mother of two black boys and fear for their safety, caused me to move past my worry of saying or doing the wrong thing and reach out to her in a whole different way. Our honest conversation about the ways in which we’ve stepped out of our comfort zones to live out loud and forge connections with one another based on our common humanity, as mothers of sons, was one of the most powerful moments I have had yet on the Mother’s Quest Podcast. Jenjii is an advocate, teacher, student, facilitator and a voice for the voiceless. She was born in Los Angeles but says that Oakland raised her. She studied Interdisciplinary-Studies with an emphasis on Urban/Economic Development at UC Berkeley, holds a CompassPoint Executive Director certificate and is an ordained minister. In her early 20s, she worked with the Children’s Defense Fund for a program called Freedom School and says it saved her life. This is where she learned the beauty of Servant Leadership, which is one of her core values. As the Founder of SOS, Saving Our Sisters Saving our Selves, over the course of 10 years, she served hundreds of girls throughout the Bay Area. In her 20+ years working, Jenjii has served as a Program Director, Executive Director, Dean of Students, Curriculum Designer, started New Life Ministries with her husband Franklin, and is currently the Co-founder and CEO of Hysten Consulting, LLC. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. I was struck by the concept of rhythm, and how it can manifest in our lives, our children, our bodies, our communities, and perhaps most importantly, our collective humanity. I hope you will leave the conversation, as I did, inspired to think about the ways in which you can find your rhythm and live out loud in your own E.P.I.C. life. In This Episode We Talk About: Being on a quest to “live out loud” and what that means for your life How our kids show us who they are through their words, actions, dreams, and challenges The importance of passion and purpose Being a servant leader and in turn, raising them as well How Jenjii’s own battle with diabetes saved her and taught her about following her body’s rhythm and the importance of sleep, exercise, food and stress reduction My visit to Jenjii and Franklin’s church and how humanity connects us regardless of class, race or religion Resources and Topics Mentioned: The Mother’s Quest Founder’s Circle at mothersquest.com/about The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World  by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu The Safe, Natural, Whole-Body Approach to Managing Your Glucose Levels and Losing Weight by Dr. Don Colbert Hysten Consulting and Jenjii Hysten on Facebook New Life Ministries Announcements: Join the Manifesto Challenge In honor of Mother’s Day, I kicked off a five day Mother’s Quest Manifesto Challenge in the private Facebook group. More about the inspiration behind the challenge in my episode with Graeme Seabrook. Each day, I shared a reflective prompt to help you claim the next chapter in your life and hosted a different mother, who shared their stories and their #oneminutemommanifesto for inspiration.  All of these resources are still in the Mother’s Quest Facebook Group, so it's never too late to come on over and participate.  Spark Your E.P.I.C. Year Anyone else feel like they need a spring reset to their year?  A few months ago, we declared February the new January and facilitated a Mother's Quest Workshop/Virtual Milestone Hike experience to help us all start again. Using photos from my favorite local hike, I took a small group on a virtual journey to: ✨Reflect on our last chapter (as we ascend)  ✨Decide what we want to release (using an image of a big bad bonfire!) and what we want to carry forward ✨Then, set intentions along the E.P.I.C. guideposts for our new chapter.  There’s a special planning sheet we created to guide you and help you document the whole process.

Steve Arterburn, host of the Christian counseling show “New Life Live!” joins the program today. Heard weekdays on 200 stations nationwide (including on WFIL from 1pm-2pm for many years), Arterburn gives some backstory to how New Life Ministries (of which he is the Founder & Chairman) was formed before we jump into learning about the upcoming “Every Man’s Battle” conference (April 5-7 in the Philadelphia area). One of the main pillars New Life Ministries is built on is transformation, and as such, the conference is not just about “stopping” behavior; it’s about changing the trajectory of a man’s path in a God-pleasing direction. Arterburn, who is the teaching pastor in his home state of Indiana, is also the founder of the Women of Faith conferences, an author, and co-editor/producer of the Life Recovery Bible which has sold 3,000,000 copies and is on exhibit at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. He provides much wisdom and insight during the program today—the tip of the proverbial iceberg (the iceberg being what one would encounter at the “Every Man’s Battle” conference). Susette tells a redemptive story of shame regarding her body image that involves a mall dressing room, a fancy dress with those darn side zippers, and a pair of scissors. We all have been caught in a dress in the dressing room, right? That's stressful!!! Imagine having a huge connection with shame alongside it. We contrast that shame story with another one where Susette had a breakthrough with recognizing shame. This one involves water bugs! (And how we see ourselves) :) Believe it or not, this also was a very vulnerable moment for Susette and I am so appreciative of her sharing so we can feel those feeling alongside her.  Most of her frustrations with her shame became subconscious thoughts that heap over time and attack her womanly heart: weight, homemaking, motherhood...all the parts of our identity. Susette’s vulnerable heart is refreshing. I love that she is so open about her current disconnection with with God and her frustrations with infertility. She helped us see that by sharing all of this with her husband, language can battle the shame. Stating it out loud has become a weapon for fighting against it. Verbalizing, using language, is a way to cut shame. Counseling and therapy is another great way to put language to shame. Knowing about the shame itself and finding your people that are safe to verbalize it to can be a great path to self discovery and proper mental and spiritual health. You can train your friends to help you too. You can teach them and practice identifying shame and supporting one another as we build language for acknowledging it. Susette say Reading a bene brown book together can be a way to communicate shameful feelings with your people in your life. Also, Celebrate Recovery is a great group program  to be a place to share your heart, identity your shame, and verbalize it. Here are some resources Susette wanted to share with you about finding a therapist: Psychologytoday.com is a good reference for people in need—most therapists are on it, so people can search through a complete list.  It also has availability for therapists who do online therapy.  You can see anyone licensed in your state for online.   For anyone in California, you can begin therapy with Susette by emailing her here:  susette@susettemagana.com   Christians can call New Life Ministries too—they have therapist referrals in most states: 1-800-New-Life We talk about shame and our relationship with God and the difference between shame and conviction. Shame becomes a buzzword in the Christian community. God's conviction is gentle and with hope for change. Shame is the opposite and it's isolating, none of Gods love is involved. When it comes to science and shame, Susette breaks it all down how our bodies can be trained to WANT to pursue God more when we pray. The more we pray, the more specific parts of the brain that helps us cope with hard stuff grows and helps us process. It’s like our brain builds our faith through our experiences! How cool is that?! Susette is thrilled to build a community among our Constantly Under Construction Podcast Tribe. She also has a podcast Facebook group for The Desire Line. Please, dive into both! I absolutely love what she is doing to connect people with themselves and our Creator. Topics discussed in this episode: Being on a quest to “live out loud” and what that means for your life How our kids show us who they are through their words, actions, dreams, and challenges The importance of passion and purpose Being a servant leader and in turn, raising them as well How Jenjii’s own battle with diabetes saved her and taught her about following her body’s rhythm and the importance of sleep, exercise, food and stress reduction My visit to Jenjii and Franklin’s church and how humanity connects us regardless of class, race or religion Resources mentioned in this episode: The Mother’s Quest Founder’s Circle at mothersquest.com/about The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu The Safe, Natural, Whole-Body Approach to Managing Your Glucose Levels and Losing Weight by Dr. Don Colbert Hysten Consulting and Jenjii Hysten on Facebook New Life Ministries --- Mother's Quest is a podcast for moms who are ready to live a truly E.P.I.C. life. So it would follow, now, even the definition of manhood could actually come into question also. Our guest today, Stephen Arterburn, provides us with a practical discussion on how to teach your sons the importance of manhood. Stephen Arterburn is the Founder and Chairman of New Life Ministries and host of the #1 nationally syndicated Christian counseling talk show New Life Live! Stephen is also the host of New Life TV, a web-based channel dedicated to transforming lives through God's truth. Stephen is the Founder of the Women of Faith conferences attended by over 5 million people. He also serves as a teaching pastor in Indianapolis, Indiana and the author of the popular book Every Man's Battle. Manhood in America Many are claiming there is a war on women. If you ask me, if there's a war on any gender, it is a war on men and manhood. As just one small example: Other than “All in the Family,”and that being a TV show produced well over 40 years ago, can you imagine watching a sitcom today and not seeing a male belittled—or even physically strike a female? Not going to happen. But, it's common fare today for males—particularly for those portraying what should be the epitome of manhood, i.e., Dads to be belittled and mocked regularly. It's not uncommon at all to see men slapped around and punched by women. That's considered funny. And, when men try to be chivalrous, they're criticized. When they're not chivalrous enough, they're criticized. Men don't know whether to spit or wind their watches today. And I don't think they even know what it means to be a man anymore. Don't misunderstand me; I'm not discounting the abuse perpetrated against females by males, that's alive and well today—but that isn't manhood! Today's guest helps us understand what it means to be a man, as well as: How to respond to the culture's current focus on gender fluidity. How can someone argue from the stance of the Bible? The underestimated role of faith. How do we advise our kids to respond to the challenge on their stance on manhood? The importance of solidifying your stance of biblical principle.
