Andrew Collins is a historian and journalist who has devoted over four decades of his life to the study of ancient civilizations, much of it among the enigmatic T-shaped pillars that dot the stone hills of the Turkish highlands. He believes that Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe are more than ceremonial sites of hunter-gatherers—he takes these monuments to be the remnants of a foundational proto-culture that authored the earliest versions of the myths and narratives found in the Bible, Torah, and Qur'an. He walks us through why he believes that the imagery carved into the stones of Karahan Tepe represents humanity's first abstract engagement with the spiritual realm, how the legends developed were likely the product of the peoples the Sumerians called the Annunaki, and the pivotal role the serpent symbol plays in linking the land of the living to the cosmic spheres. Listen up, yo!

From the autumn of 2019 till the pandemic shutdowns, schoolchildren in the millions marched to save Earth from irreparable climate crisis. Calling on world leaders to keep the planet's temperature rise below 1.5°C by cutting carbon emissions, teens organised an unprecedented scale of climate strikes around the globe. And they are still going. Evidence from PISA 2018 bears out Generation Z's environmental commitment: more than 2/3 of 15-year-olds in every country and economy feel they need to take care of our planet. How do schools help students build on this momentum? Anuna de Wever was one of the founders of the youth climate strike movement in Belgium. She is now a trade policy officer at the European NGO, Climate Action Network. Host: Clara Young Producer: Stephen Flynn

Eric sits down to chat with one of Ireland's preeminent composers and musicians: Michael McGlynn. They speak about the early days of Anúna, what the group has grown into, and its global influence over the course of its illustrious 33 year history. They also spend some time speaking about how "Sean-nós" singing has directly, and indirectly, effected the model Anuna and Michael's own choral philosophy. What exactly is "Sean-nós"? Does integrating this concept into a choral paradigm challenge certain established norms believed by a good many choral conductors? Is there something beautiful and powerful that Anúna is tapping into that would be worth to dwell on and pursue?Pieces by Michael McGlynn (sung by Anúna) included:"Salve Rex Gloriae""Amhran na Gaoithe""Quis Quis""The Rising of the Sun"www.michaelmcglynn.comwww.anuna.ie

The Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg may be the most well known, but climate change protests around the world are being led by young women. Activists from Uganda and Belgium tell Kim Chakanetsa why they are building huge movements in their countries. Hilda Flavia Nakabuye, a 22 year old Ugandan college student, has been protesting since 2017. She realized climate change was the cause of droughts affecting her family's ability to grow food. In 2019 she set up #FridaysForFuture Uganda, and spoke at an international summit, saying 'I joined other young people all over the globe to protect our future. Through endless fights and sleepless nights, we hustle our way. Because this is our future.' Teenager Anuna De Wever Van Der Heyden led 35,000 young people on a climate change protest march in January 2019. She has become famous in Belgium and beyond, and has faced conspiracy theories, death threats and verbal attacks. False claims against her marches even led to the resignation of an environment minister, and Anuna says people simply find it hard to believe that young women can inspire and run their own movements. Our guests are Sheila and Tony Davoren, organizers of the 5th annual Celtic Bayou Festival to be held on March 13 and 14, 2020 at Warehouse 535 in Lafayette. The festival is a family-friendly event celebrating the Celtic Culture. After listening to this episode of Discover Lafayette, you will not want to miss the Festival's activities which will immerse you in everything Celtic! Sheila and Tony love all aspects of their native Celtic traditions and delight in telling the story of their roots and why they are passionate about sharing it with Acadiana and beyond. The Celtic culture actually shares quite a bit in common with the Acadian/Creole culture we so easily take for granted. Tony explained that the Irish have a name for their own brand of joie de vivre: "craic" means enjoying good company, having a few drinks in a party atmosphere, singing and enjoying music, cutting up, dancing, and of course, eating. Who doesn't like that?? A little background: Sheila is first generation Irish-American and began Irish dancing at the age of four. She enjoyed a competitive career at the World Championship level and danced professionally with The Chieftains, a Grammy award-winning Irish group. (As an aside, the Chieftains will be playing in Lafayette on March 13, 2019, at the Heymann Performing Arts Center.) At the age of 25, Sheila was one of the first Americans to be invited to perform with Riverdance, a theatrical show consisting mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. She directed and produced “Dancing at the Crossroads”, an instructional video, starring fellow Riverdance performers. The video has since become a staple study guide for those dancers wishing to be certified in Irish dance. Currently, Sheila directs Camp Rince Ceol held each summer in California and New York and teaches Irish dance classes in Metairie and Lafayette. Visit https://irishdancecamp.com for more information. Tony Davoren, known as "The Irish Guy," is from Wicklow, Ireland. He began his singing career with the Celtic Irish choral group Anuna and also toured with Riverdance. He has appeared at the Radio City Music Hall and performed for the Prince of Wales at The Albert Hall in London. Tony has recorded with Sting, The Chieftains, and Sinead O’Connor. He is also featured on two Grammy Award-winning recordings: “The Long Black Veil” and “Riverdance the Show." He directed the music for “Dancing at the Crossroads” and has produced recordings for Irish soloists Katie McMahon and Dave Donohue. Tony and Sheila first met while performing in Riverdance the Lee Company. Their mutual love of music, dance and enjoying their Irish culture drew them together and they were married in 2002. After falling in love with Acadiana after visiting several times while on break from tours, they viewed South Louisiana as their cherished getaway. In 2003, tiring of the frigid temperatures they endured in New York, they purchased property in Sunset while on a visit to attend Festival International. The Davorens still live in Sunset today with their three children. The 2020 Celtic Bayou Festival features musical performances by traditional Celtic bands, unique events such as the Lenten Crawfish Boil, Guinness Cook-Off Competition sponsored by Rader Solutions, Bailey’s Bake-Off Competition, Jameson Pub Crawl, a Genealogy tent for Acadiana people to trace their Celtic roots, and more. Visit http://www.celticbayoufest.com for a complete listing of events and attractions. Celtic Bayou Festival is a non-profit, 501 c3 organization and relies on community support in order to share their lovely Celtic traditions. Please consider supporting CBF with a donation. For more information, please visit http://www.celticbayoufest.com. This post was updated March 5, 2020 to reflect current event schedule.
Tara McNeill took up singing, harp and violin at a very young age. Ever since childhood, she has known what she wanted to do: perform. For the past several years, McNeill has done just that, and for the past three years, with Celtic Woman. She says it's the fulfillment of a dream.
Top 5 Reasons proving Ancient Civilizations Were Visited by Advanced Beings We’re taught that man was once primitive and over time evolved into the what we are today. But what if that’s not the whole truth? What if ancient man possessed sophisticated technology from advanced beings that we can’t comprehend, even today? The following ancient objects, text and structures will make you question the history books. These are the top 5 reasons proving ancient civilizations were visited by advanced beings. 5. The Aluminum Wedge of Aiud I ute In 1974, workers in Aiud, Romania were digging a trench along the Mures River when they discovered a set of Mastodon bones buried under 35 feet of soil. Mastodons are prehistoric creatures that are related to the elephant. They're bigger, stronger and lived in prehistoric times and while it was a great find, there was something else that was much more exciting. Right next to the bones was a curious artifact. An aluminum-shaped wedge, that looked like it came from a hammer. But why was it buried under 35 feet of soil and next to the bones? 4. Nazca Lines Hailed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known throughout the world, The Nazca Lines of Peru are both a mysterious and marvelous site. Because of Nazca's unique topography and climate, these lines have been preserved throughout the centuries and what they showcase still perplexes many people today. First discovered by Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejia Xesspe in 1927, he thought that the shallow etched white lines in the Nazca valley were simply trail markers. It wasn't until the 1930's when civilian and military aircrafts flew around the area and discovered the huge pieces of line work on the region connected to form unique figures and shapes. 3. Aliens and the Third Reich When it comes to aliens, most people don't immediately associate the Nazis with them. But it seems, the Third Reich might have known something that the rest of the world didn't. If indeed advanced beings visited us in the distant past, is it possible they could have visited even during the 20th century? The rise of Hitler and his army’s acquisition of unique technologies at that time was overwhelming. They managed to quickly develop unique and powerful weapons and were in fact, during World War 2 creating new weapons and vehicles that were far more technologically advanced then any others of the time. 2. Puma Punku One of the most ancient sites in the world, Puma Punku remains a strange and enduring mystery. Found southeast of Lake Titicaca in the Andes Mountains, Puma Punku has been dated to be around 15,000 BC and predates that of the Inca settlement. Puma Punku is actually a part of Tiwanaku, a significant and religious site in later Incan traditions. Known in Aymara language as "The Door of the Puma," the complex is made up of an unwalled western court, terraced platform, a walled in court in the eastern section and a central esplanade without any walls. 1. Ancient Text and Carvings Perhaps the strongest proof hinting at the existence of advanced beings interacting with ancient mankind are those found in ancient texts and carvings. For modern man, much of ancient civilization is a mystery, but what's even more puzzling is seeing unusual creatures or objects that don't have any place in the past. There are several examples of this including those found in Sumerian text. Sumer is thought to be the first urban civilization in Mesopotamia. In their writings they tell the tales of Sumerians being used by "gods" called the Anuna or the Anunaki to help harvest the land. so there were the Top 5 Reasons proving Ancient Civilizations Were Visited by Advanced Beings

This program was recorded at The Divorce Expo in March, 2012, and features Singer/Songwriter, Terry Radigan. Radigan debuted her first solo record, Radigan, which was released in 2000, and was praised by the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, People Magazine, and Mademoiselle, among others. Since then, Radigan has had her songs recorded by powerhouses, Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, Anuna, City High, Vinyl Pinups, and many more. Fast forward to 2012, and you’ll find Radigan's latest album, The Breakdown of a Breakup. The album is a candid story of the breakup of a twenty-year relationship; sorrow, anger, wilderness, and the final phase of empowerment and moving on. Terry shares her personal breakup story and tells how writing her new album was a form of therapy. (The good news is, writers write some of their biggest hits during a breakup, and this album is awesome!) And if you find yourself going through divorce, you'll totally relate to her songs. In this podcast, we feature two songs from Terry's new album, Love Wouldn't Lie To Me and Not Giving Up On Love. For more on Terry and her music, visit: www.TerryRadigan.com.
