In the middle of the 2025 college football season, the Miami Hurricanes lost two of three games, including a road loss at SMU and a home loss to Louisville. Griffin Warner and Lonte Smith talk CFB playoff games and best bets. Griffin Warner and Lonte Smith broke down the College Football Playoff quarterfinal slate with a focus on matchup specific edges, betting markets, and how recent form intersects with schematic realities. Coming off a 4 0 run on their last two podcast episodes, the discussion centered on four games and how defense, trench play, and quarterback trust shape both sides and totals. The opening focus was Miami versus Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, a matchup both viewed as driven by elite defenses and pace control. Ohio State entered as a nine point favorite, but Smith emphasized Miami's ability to dominate the line of scrimmage, pointing to pressure rates, sack production, and third down efficiency. While expecting Ohio State to win outright, he leaned toward Miami covering and consistently highlighted unders across quarters and the full game, citing run game inefficiency on both sides and a likely field position battle. Warner echoed the correlation between strong defensive underdogs and unders, particularly on a neutral field. The conversation then shifted to Oregon versus Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl, described as the most difficult game to handicap. Smith leaned slightly toward Oregon based on quarterback trust and offensive balance but stressed concerns about receiver health and Texas Tech's defensive success rate and field position metrics. The consensus framed the game as close to a toss up, with Oregon needing a clean performance and Texas Tech facing pressure to protect its quarterback and avoid one dimensional offense. Alabama versus Indiana in the Rose Bowl generated the strongest stance, with Smith calling for a potential Indiana blowout. He cited Alabama's struggles running the ball, poor field position numbers, and vulnerability to pressure against an Indiana defense built to attack the pass. Indiana's ability to protect its quarterback and force Alabama into predictable situations was presented as the defining edge, with Indiana projected to control the game and win by double digits. The final matchup featured Georgia against Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl, a rematch that Smith viewed as lopsided in Georgia's favor. Drawing heavily on the first meeting and Georgia's second half adjustments, he pointed to Ole Miss's inability to stop the run and Georgia's depth and preparation advantage. With Georgia rested, schematically familiar, and trending defensively, Smith projected a decisive win and made Georgia minus six and a half his best bet. Warner agreed on Georgia and added his own best bet on the Miami Ohio State under, reinforcing the theme that defense and game script would dictate the quarterfinals. Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese was a dynamic pass rush threat through much of the season, but his role has changed as the Buckeyes have faced quarterbacks like Michigan's Bryce Underwood and Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, who present a run threat in addition to passing. However, with Miami Hurricanes QB Carson Beck on deck in the Cotton Bowl, that could free up Reese to go back to more of an attacking role for OSU defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. In this episode of the Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning podcast, you'll hear from Patricia about that and much more.

Jay Greeson and Chris Lee preview the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl between Texas and Michigan, and make predictions on the outcome and the over-under. Topics include: Michigan coach Sherrone Moore was fired after the Ohio State loss for a personal scandal. Interim coach Biff Poggi, who has an interesting life story, will take over. Is this a net positive or net negative for Michigan? Texas had bigger aspirations than the Cheeze-It Bowl as the Longhorns were the preseason No. 1 team. However, Texas played well down the stretch, winning six of seven games, and that included wins over Vanderbilt and Texas A&M. Michigan will be without its two best pass rushers in Derrick Moore and Jaishawn Barnham, as well as fifth-year starting offensive lineman Giovanni El-Hadi, Texas is without three All-American-level defenders in safety Michael Taafe, linebacker Anthony Hill and cornerback Malik Muhammad, in addition to key defensive linemen Trey Moore and Ethan Burke. On offense, the Longhorns will be without running back CJ Baxter and Jerrick Gibson as well as receiver DeAndre Moore. With all those defensive stars out, does this favor a more offensive-oriented game? Michigan got it done on the ground with a pair of terrific running backs Justice Haynes (formerly of Alabama) and Jordan Marshall. Michigan's Bryce Underwood was one of the more highly-sought freshmen out of high school. Underwood's passing numbers (nine touchdowns, six picks) were ordinary, but Underwood can run and could benefit from so much of the Longhorns' defense being out. Texas's Arch Manning got better as the season progressed and should be highly motivated for this one. On this episode of the JT Sports Podcast, JT gives his thoughts on why the Alabama Crimson Tide are being wildly underestimated heading into the second round of the College Football Playoff. JT explains how the Alabama Crimson Tide matchup with Indiana is being distorted by recency bias, why Alabama's talent edge and playoff experience matter, and how the Alabama Crimson Tide don't need perfection to win. JT also breaks down why Miami is a nightmare matchup for Ohio State, why Georgia is poised to overwhelm Ole Miss in the rematch, and why Oregon vs Texas Tech could reshape the future of the NIL era. This episode challenges national narratives, questions conference supremacy, and explains why playoff football is about who you are now — not what you were in October.
