Are women bad with money?! In this solo episode Rebecca Robertson takes apart one of the most damaging myths in personal finance. The short answer is no. Women are not bad with money. The system was built to leave them out of it. Rebecca traces the myth back through history, from a time when women could not open a bank account without a husband present, to the classroom narrative that girls are no good at maths. Then she shares her own story: dyslexic, an F in maths and three GCSEs, now an independent financial adviser looking after more than a hundred clients. This is a personal and practical look at why so many women say they're bad with money despite making strong financial decisions every day. Rebecca unpicks the difference between a confidence gap and a competence gap, explains why "I haven't been taught yet" is more honest than "I'm just no good at this", and shows how reframing the story from "bad with money" to "under supported with money" changes everything. She also gets specific about the numbers. The gender pension gap, the higher rate of career breaks among women and the tendency to hold long-term savings in cash all compound over time, which means women often need to be more financially savvy, not less. What you'll learn: Where the "women are bad with money" myth actually comes from Why no man is a financial plan, and what abdicating financial responsibility really costs The difference between a confidence gap and a competence gap Why women are often strong spenders but hesitant long-term planners How the language of "I haven't been taught yet" keeps people stuck Why it matters that around 85% of financial advisers are men Risk aversion vs risk awareness, and how sitting in cash can quietly erode your wealth How career breaks and caregiving drive the gender pension gap Practical first steps: reframing the narrative, talking to your partner and building a money buddy system Chapters 00:00 Are women bad with money? 00:48 Where the myth begins 02:13 No man is a financial plan 03:28 From an F in maths to financial adviser 05:27 Strong spenders, hesitant planners 07:21 "I haven't been taught yet" 08:23 How financial services alienate women 10:22 Risk aversion vs risk awareness 12:07 A client story: when sitting in cash costs you 15:07 Why women make better long-term investors 16:40 Career breaks, caregiving and the pension hit 18:10 Fear of getting it wrong 19:52 Baby steps and reframing the narrative 21:56 The numbers behind the gap 24:08 What you can do today 26:46 Final thoughts --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connect with Rebecca Robertson and the Podcast: Subscribe for weekly wealth-building strategies: https://www.youtube.com/@rebeccarobertsonifa Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rebecca_robertsonifa & https://www.instagram.com/acceleratingyourwealth LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebecca-financial-advisor Facebook :https://www.facebook.com/RebeccaRobertsonwealth www.evolutionfinancialplanning.co.uk Disclaimer: This content is for educational and informational purposes only and should not be construed as financial advice.

In this episode, we explore the identity pattern many women business owners carry while building successful businesses: the quiet but persistent belief that they are bad with money. Even when revenue is growing, clients are signing, and the business looks successful from the outside, this internal identity can still shape what feels safe to receive, hold and expand into. This episode unpacks the disconnect between external success and internal money identity, and how that tension can silently limit your income ceiling. We look at the subtle ways money beliefs show up in high-functioning women business owners, from underestimating financial capability to holding shame around past debt, and why these patterns do not disappear just because your business is doing well.If you have ever felt successful on paper but still emotionally entangled in scarcity, this conversation will help you feel seen. In this powerful and thought-provoking video, Dr. Boyce Watkins, a Finance PhD, breaks down the real reasons why Black wealth struggles to grow across generations. While many people talk about “generational curses,” Dr. Watkins challenges that narrative by explaining the economic and psychological patterns that truly drive financial outcomes in Black families.Drawing on key theories such as behavioral finance, intergenerational wealth transfer, and social learning theory, this video explains how financial habits, beliefs, and decision-making patterns are often passed down from parents to children. Instead of mystical explanations, Dr. Watkins shows how learned financial behaviors, limited access to capital, and systemic barriers create cycles that look like curses but are actually patterns that can be broken. You'll also learn how concepts like wealth mindset, financial literacy, and family financial culture play a critical role in shaping long-term outcomes. Dr. Watkins explains how children inherit not just money—or the lack of it—but also spending habits, investing behaviors, risk tolerance, and attitudes toward wealth. If you've ever wondered why some families build generational wealth while others struggle to maintain it, this video provides clear, actionable insight. More importantly, it empowers you to break negative cycles and begin building a legacy of economic power.Watch now to learn how to replace so-called “curses” with strategy, discipline, and generational wealth-building principles.

It's not hard to see that many people struggle to manage their money. Most people are, well, frankly bad with money. That is not a value judgment, or a comment about their character or willpower, or anything like that! Managing money is a skill, and skills can be improved with practice and a little guidance. In today's episode Ben and Ernie present five signs indicating you are bad with money, and offer some practical advice to how to get better. (Hint: it involves giving every dollar a job). The five signs: You worry about everyday spending Every inconvenience is an emergency You live paycheck to paycheck You don't set aside money for yourself You don't change your plan If any (or all) of these signs describe you, there is hope! Ben and Ernie used to feel like this too, and through the practice of giving their dollars jobs and thinking through what they needed their money to do for them, step by step, week by week, month by month, they improved and eventually got good with money. If you're making good money and still drowning in debt, this episode is for you.Steve Rhode (the old, original Get Out of Debt Guy) and Damon Day (the new Get Out of Debt Guy) flip the script on the shame that high earners carry. Because your salary isn't why you're stuck — it's the reason you can get out faster than you think. We dig into what's driving debt right now (hint: it's not “overspending” for most people), why minimum payments keep even high earners trapped, and why “I'll deal with it next month” turns into years of treadmill living. Then we get practical: what options actually exist when you make too much for a clean Chapter 7, how debt settlement can work if you have a real plan, and why the goal isn't a magic trick — it's a strategy that resolves the entire situation. You'll also hear what's happening with student loans, why creditors seem more aggressive lately, and how to stop letting fear of credit damage or lifestyle disruption keep you frozen. This week's exercise: add up what you're spending on minimum payments every month. That number is your leverage — the money that could fund your escape.Learn more at https://getoutofdebt.orgReach Damon at https://damonday.com

Welcome back to the More Money Podcast and the premiere of Season 17 of the show! To kick things off, I've got New York Times best-selling author, podcast host, actor and filmmaker Gabe Dunn on the podcast, who you may already be familiar with from their popular book and podcast Bad with Money. In this episode, Gabe shares their personal finance journey from navigating private school as a lower-income kid, to studying at an elite college accruing mountains of student debt, to working an unpaid internship that got them further into debt to afford food and rent, to eventually becoming one of the most honest and vulnerable voices in the personal finance space today. Not only does Gabe openly share the mistakes they've made and lessons they've learned along the way (so you don't have to repeat them), but they also share the raw truth about managing money with bipolar disorder and the real costs of transitioning especially in the midst of losing health insurance due to the WGA strikes. Gaby tries to guess what instrument Mal is playing. A listener/teacher writes in to ask for an episode about incarcerated persons. BecBecMuffin explains Brazilian healthcare and the finances of moving there from the US with her husband. A former devout Dave Ramsey follower confirms everything terrible that Tori Dunlap and Gaby said about the finance "guru" on their episode about him and even more. Then, an email thanking Bad With Money for eliminating shame and helping Kristen get out of debt. Mal then shares about their trip to urgent care the day before and how insurance factored in. Three people then write in to criticize the show's conversation about the pain involved in IUD insertion. Next, worries about ADHD accommodations at work, and coincidences involving Bad With Money and Mal's music career. Finally: Could Gaby stand to edit the emails? Sure. Will they? Gaby Dunn joins me for a deep deep dive into the madness of 1980's CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC, the highly fictionalized - and thoroughly ridiculous - story of the Village People. Co-starring Steve Guttenberg, Caitlyn Jenner & Valerie Perrine, this legendary flop helped close the coffin on the mainstream disco explosion of the late 70s and set the stage for the highly bizarre New Romantic makeover of the band in 1981. We get into the madness of the making of the film, the “gems” lurking in the late era VP catalog, the deeply strange product tie-ins and much much more.
