Today, we're diving straight into the heart of what it means to hit that breaking point and reclaim our sanity amid the chaos of everyday life. It's all about taking a hot second to reflect and ask ourselves, “How's all that working for ya?” Trust me, stepping back isn't just a luxury; it's a necessity for those of us juggling family, work, and, well, life itself. Join me as I share a personal tale of kitchen chaos that spiraled into a mini-revelation, reminding us that finding breathing room is not just about escaping the noise, but about stepping into clarity. So grab your favorite beverage, kick back, and let's keep it real while we explore the importance of healthy boundaries, because (spoiler alert) you deserve it!Episode Highlights:Reflecting on our lives can be the catalyst for meaningful change and growth. It's crucial to create breathing room in our busy lives to recharge and reset. Moments of solitude help us regain clarity and perspective amidst life's chaos. Seeking appreciation is valid, but our self-worth should never depend on external validation. Taking a brief step back allows us to return to our loved ones as better versions of ourselves. Investing time in ourselves isn't selfish; it's essential for being fully present for others. Would you say you're confident? Or would it be more accurate to say that you experience flickers of self-doubt now and again? If you said the latter, you're not alone. This week, Darlene Brock and Julie Bender discuss the plague of self-doubt and shame we face as women, and how we get caught in the trap of comparison. They break down the most common areas we struggle with, including feeling too old; feeling too young; wondering if we're good enough; feeling burdened by our pasts; and more, and share ways to identify your strengths (rather than focus on your perceived weaknesses). If you're looking to break free of self-doubt, embarrassment and shame, this is the right place to find hope. Judith Winfrey is one of the most respected voices in the Southern foodscape. She's spent a lifetime in food, from working in various positions in restaurants, to running a meal kit delivery business for five years, to being the COO of Linton Hopkins' Atlanta-based restaurant group. She is the co-founder of both Wholesome Wave Georgia and Community Farmers Markets, has been recognized as one of Atlanta Magazine's 500 Most Powerful Leaders, and by the New York Times as a “Woman Who is Changing the Landscape of Leadership.” All of that is evidence that when she's building something new, it has the strong ribs of research and real world expertise at its core. Since 2008, Judith and her husband Joe Reynolds have co-owned Love is Love Farm, a certified organic farm growing a diversity of vegetables and fruit through soil-based agricultural practices. In 2018, Joe and Judith came together with a group of ambitious, experienced, and educated young farmers: Monica Ponce, Russell Honderd, and Demetrius Milling, and they bonded around a shared vision to farm collectively. Beginning in 2021, Love is Love Farm converted to a worker-owned cooperative and began farming on 70 acres in Mansfield, GA on land they will ultimately own through The Working Farms Fund. All that might sound somewhat heady and theoretical, but it is grounded in good Georgia soil and the love of good food.

Hey fam! Today's episode is such a special one! We were honored to have Kirsten Watson join Milena to talk all things family, motherhood, and sometimes needing to slow down to ensure Christ remains central in our lives. As a mom of seven kids, wife of a professional athlete and cohost of a popular podcast, Kirsten is often asked by other women, “How do you do it?” They see her with her hands full and wonder, What keeps her going—and smiling—with everything she's juggling? Kirsten's answer begins with a simple first step: take a breath. The second step is also simple: lean in and understand that the Word of God gives us the breath we need to handle every situation because when we inhale God's Word, we exhale peace. Be on the lookout for Kirsten's new book—Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who's Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap)—available everywhere on May 3rd, 2022.Verse of the Day:“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” - Proverbs 31:28
In this busy life, it helps when you can find a way to catch your breath amidst the chaos. It helps even more when you have a friend who knows what you're going through and has your back. This week, that friend is Kristen Watson, who – along with her husband, a first-round NFL draft pick and Super Bowl Champion, Benjamin Watson – are back on the podcast! The Watsons join Paula for an encouraging conversation on the eve of Kirsten's debut book, “Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who's Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap)”. It's all about navigating the stress and fears of life, one simple breath at a time. This real, honest book was a labor of love that required Kirsten to reach for her faith out of a place of deep fear and doubt. She tells Paula about the lies she's heard for years that kept her thinking “never in a million years” would she be called to use her words and become an author one day. Kirsten shares how she found the courage to battle the voices in her head, steward her platform and bring this beautiful book into fruition. If you're in the thick of it all and feeling weary, you will feel seen by this conversation and encouraged by Kirsten, who recalls just a few short years ago struggling to understand how “singing ‘The Wheels on the Bus' all day” as a mom to seven was fulfilling her big career aspirations. Now looking back, hear Kirsten share how God was quietly transferring her gifts into supporting the day-in-and-day-out of her family and preparing her for the assignments yet to come. The Watsons also catch Paula up on their AccessMore podcast, “Why or Why Not with the Watsons,” where they continue to keep it real! You will love their unofficial “Like Policy.” Find out how they continue learning about, challenging, and celebrating each other amidst launching a book and potty training their adorable twin boys. Pausing to not miss out on what God is teaching/leading. Pausing before we intervene on our kids' behalf. Do you remember commercial breaks? They were built-in pauses, breaks from the drama or sitcom. With DVR's or streaming services we can easily skip or minimize the pauses. But what if “pause” is what your everyday really needs? Not a week-long, pick your favorite vacation spot pause, but a quick moment to stop and say, “God, where are you leading? What are you saying?” or “Help me today because I don't have what it takes to make it through the day.” Kirsten Watson is a busy woman - a wife, a mom to seven, an author and podcast host - but all those responsibilities only lead her to pause more. Whether it's in the moments just after her alarm goes off, or in the middle of after-school stories, she challenges us to slow down and first ask God for the help we need, and then to see where he is at work. She encourages us to practice discernment for what is most helpful in our kids' sanctification - either stepping in or stepping back. She invites us to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit available to us if we will only ask. Kirsten's book, Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who's Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap), releases May 3, 2022. I have no idea what's going on in there. She's naked ambition in a skin suit.” – Sara Gibbs “It's a lie within a lie within a lie, tumbling into oblivion.” – Ian Dunt “The mistake with Boris Johnson was treating him like a bumbling buffoon… We made him seem innocuous. Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yetti, Harry and the Hendersons and the couple of written accounts of members of the church having encounters with who could have been Cain himself. From Come Follow Me:At first, the story of the Fall of Adam and Eve might seem like a tragedy. Adam and Eve were cast out of the beautiful Garden of Eden. They were thrown into a world where pain, sorrow, and death are ever present (see Genesis 3:16–19). And they were separated from their Heavenly Father. But because of the truths restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith in the book of Moses, we know that the story of Adam and Eve is actually one of hope—and an essential part of God's plan for His children. The Garden of Eden was beautiful. But Adam and Eve needed something more than beautiful surroundings. They needed—and we all need—an opportunity to grow. Leaving the Garden of Eden was the necessary first step toward returning to God and eventually becoming like Him. That meant facing opposition, making mistakes, learning to repent, and trusting the Savior, whose Atonement makes possible progression and “the joy of our redemption” (Moses 5:11). So when you read about the Fall of Adam and Eve, focus not on the seeming tragedy but on the possibilities—not on the paradise Adam and Eve lost but on the glory their choice allows us to receive.#oldtestament #comefollowme #thechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #hearhim #cainandable #ourbrotherskeeper #lds #mormons #christians #whatdomormonsbelieve #whatdochristiansbelieve #bigfoot #sasquatch #mormonpodcast #christianpodcast #yetti #jesus #faithinchrist #creation #fruitoftree #treeof #knowledgeofgoodandevil #yallkeepontrivin #gospelgrowthandgoodtimes #saintsinthesouthSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/SaintsInTheSouth)

And if so, was it because they felt grateful or did their moms force them to? Maybe they're just buttering us up to keep the gravy train rolling. And how is that different than scrawling thank-you notes to Grandma or handing your teacher a five-dollar Starbucks card with an apple on it? We're back with Katy reporting in from the surface of the sun (...or Seattle in a historic heat cone) with some strange medical mysteries. If you are a hypochondriac... be warned, these maladies are wild and only provide more evidence that the brain is a terrifying place. Learn about aquagenic urticaria, or being ALLERGIC TO WATER, and a mystery brain disease striking in New Brunswick, Canada. Spoiler alert, neither of us are doctors, so please don't take any of this as medically perfect. Katy just researched online, okay? Everything sounds like an episode of House. There are some bonus mysteries discussed, like chimeric people, Foreign Accent Syndrome, and whatever the fuck possessed people to eat rotten meat as a health trend. Pivot with Purpose with Regina Lawrence Often, what we think we want in life is not what would give us fulfillment. We tend to get inspiration from the people we look up to on which step to take next. However, at some point, we have to realize that each of us has a different path and story to tell. Knowing your true purpose and aligning your soul with that are the keys to living a fulfilling life. In this episode, mindset and life coach Regina Lawrence joins us to discuss how we can pivot our life with purpose. She shares her experience in pursuing a career in law and her exit strategy in pursuing her purpose. Regina also talks about our soul contract and what we can do to fulfill our life and business purpose. If you want to break free from the clutches of an unfulfilling life, then this episode is for you! Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Discover how Regina shifted from a law career into following her purpose. What is Regina's exit strategy? Find out the questions entrepreneurs should ask for a soulful business. Resources All The Things Podcast with Regina Lawrence My first book, Relationship Ready: How I Stopped Fucking Randos and Started Cupcaking My Soulmate, is available on Amazon and Audible. Grab your copy now! Episode Highlights Pursuing a Career in Law Like most things in Regina's life, pursuing a career in law was a spur-of-the-moment decision. She initially wanted to be a political journalist. She applied to law school after learning that every woman she admired in political journalism had a J.D. Regina only took the GRE and not the LSAT. She got admitted to Rutgers' pilot program for the class of 2009 and was in the legal world for 11 years. Regina was a trial attorney who represented the Philadelphia Police Department and the Philadelphia prison system. Shifting Gears & Pursuing Her Purpose Even though it seemed like she had everything she wanted in life, Regina felt unfulfilled. She experienced the worst manifestation of panic and anxiety while working on a big case. That time, she realized she has to figure out how to change herself and how she feels. Regina's Exit Strategy We all have a black hole inside of us that we're trying to fill. For Regina, she tried to fill that with success and work. Once she started to understand what self-love was, she also began connecting to the divine. She worked with a business and life coach, which made her realize that being an attorney is not her identity. Moving to Arizona Regina's tarot card reader friend said she wasn't supposed to be in the northeast, with its dark and heavy energy. Instead, she needs to be in the warm southwest because she was light and bright. She originally planned to move to LA. But she changed her mind when she stayed in Phoenix with her best friend. There, she realized she had to be uprooted from what was comfortable to attain real transformation. Soulful Alignment We're all in this lifetime and in this moment very purposefully and intentionally. We all have a soul contract during our time on the planet. The businesses we're creating are either fulfillment or something that needs to be in alignment to fulfill that contract. Regina gets very clear with the people she works with even when they have a different “languaging” of soul contracts. You must know your purpose and the importance of your business to that purpose. Your business will not be fulfilling if you don't have a deep intention behind it. Questions Entrepreneurs Should Ask for a Soulful Business What did you think you wanted to do with your life as a child who had no inhibitions, fears, or self-doubt? What was the thing you wanted to do before people told you that you couldn't? What things in life do you love and give you the energy that feeds you and fills you up? What are the things that you don't like to do, and why? Delegating Work It's hard for her to manage people. She's still figuring out how to delegate things in her business to stay in her zone of genius. Launching a Podcast It took her a year to launch her podcast. She wanted to make sure that she had the bandwidth to commit to posting weekly episodes. You can be efficient and multitask while listening to podcasts. She does everything in her business. It becomes a problem because she feels like it's not worth paying somebody else to do it. Regina's Favorite Modules to Teach How to create a course or curriculum for a one-on-one coach Taking things, putting them in order, and giving them structure The lesson of free, valuable content Using stories to teach people and have them learn that you're valuable Women's Perfectionism & Procrastination We attract the present and former versions of ourselves. Women are perfectionists. Because of this, they tend to procrastinate. Perfectionism isn't real; procrastination is. Pivoting amid COVID-19 The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the importance of pivoting no matter what comes up. Being resistant to change can be detrimental to your business. It's different to speak and present virtually because you are getting no acknowledgement. Doing virtual events requires you to be firm on who you are, how you show up, and what you do. Regina's Daily Non-negotiables Movement Morning coffee and 50 ounces of water Her Palo Santo Reading and journaling Words for the Woman Who's Suffering You have to give yourself some space in life. Creating white space in your life will give you the answers you want to come. 5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode “I believe that we're all here in this lifetime and in this moment very purposefully and very intentionally. And I think that with our soul contracts, for our time on the planet we have, we're here for a reason.” “Everything we sell, we must give away for free.” “So if you can take nuggets—whatever you're doing in business— and teach little nuggets in your stories, it's so valuable when people remember you.” “We attract who we are, and we attract versions of our former selves.” “Perfectionism isn't real; it's procrastination, and procrastinators are broke.” About Regina Regina Lawrence is a mindset and life coach who helps coaches create a business aligned to their soul's calling. I don’t know if you’ve ever broken a bone, but the recovery can be painful, frustrating - and quite immobile. You can’t move about as you normally would. That was certainly the case when, back in 2016, this episode’s guest Sandra Garlick, broke her ankle and was laid up at home with that. Now, whilst you might take the chance to catch up on some reading, or binge watch a boxset or two, Sandra set up a new network, the like of which hadn’t really been seen in the UK before. Woman Who UK is an organisation that helps women in business ‘power up their brand’ through encouraging them to recognise and celebrate their achievements - and becoming role models to inspire others. From that first awards ceremony that Sandra Garlick organised whilst on crutches Woman Who has gone on to encapsulate groups, networks, celebrations, seminars - and an annual awards ceremony. Sandra Garlick is a real inspiration. Not just to the women that she champions and supports through Woman Who, but to anyone who has a dream, a drive or a passion. She was told time and time again that something like Woman Who wouldn’t succeed - and she’s proved them all along. In this wonderful conversation, we talked about the effect that the Covid-19 lockdown has had on her business, which she refers to as an ‘accidental business’. We also talk about: How she responded to the lockdown, and the good that has come out of it The importance of checking your post regularly, especially when you’re contacted by the highest office in the land Why women in the business need to realise their potential in today’s society - and how she’s helping them to bring that about. The Modern Therapist's Survival Guide with Curt Widhalm and Katie Vernoy
Curt and Katie talk about the idea that burnout and depression could actually be the same thing. We look at how stigma and a sense of superiority may inhibit clinicians from reporting that they’re actually experiencing depression rather than “burnout.” It’s time to reimagine therapy and what it means to be a therapist. To support you as a whole person and a therapist, your hosts, Curt Widhalm and Katie Vernoy talk about how to approach the role of therapist in the modern age. In this episode we talk about: The blog article that sparked the conversation about why doctors don’t get depressed The idea that burnout and depression may be the same thing The functionality of diagnosis in treatment and how it impacts what one is diagnosed The definitions of burnout and depression and the different schools of thought The place of elitism both in the definition and the treatment of burnout A sense of superiority and or a feeling of higher level on the hierarchy leading to less burnout and depression Katie’s ideas around simple burnout or complicated burnout and the overuse of that word Where the ideas around burnout actually came from and whether it is a sound foundation The medical model divorcing depression from situational factors The concern that pop psychology may have invaded the space The idea that when people have sought the situation that has led to burnout or depression – there is an existential crisis The rationale that it is “worth it” because we have sacrificed to move forward in our career Tips from Freudenberger (who introduced the concept of Burnout) on how to avoid or treat burnout: hiring, work culture, thoughtfulness about work and work day, breaks and vacations, staff development and feeling time, sharing experiences, time off to learn, adequate staffing, balance of physical exercise Our Generous Sponsor: GreenOak Accounting You went to school to become a therapist, not an accountant! Welcome back to the Power Couple Episodes! This week Nicholas and Amanda talk all about the components of teamwork, from real and honest communication, problem-solving together, to what a woman is like when she is hurt. Amanda offers great insight into tone and body language when communicating to one another in emotionally charged situations and Nicholas talks about the most productive dates you can go on together while still having some of the best times of your life with your partner. Timestamped Show Notes: [ 02:12 ] Productive Weekend [ 04:16 ] Understanding [ 07:00 ] Problem Solving Together [ 08:18 ] Dealing in Reality [ 09:16 ] A Woman Who is Hurt [ 10:30 ] Tone [ 11:45 ] Teamwork [ 13:34 ] Dates Takeaways: for a lot of the guys out there, there's usually this separation of what needs to happen in business and what's going on in the relationship. A lot of it comes down to understanding. We always talk about the communication and the purpose of communication isn't for someone to be right or wrong, but to better understand each other, and the more you can understand each other, the more you can fall in love with each other. So when it comes to business, I've noticed that some of the guys out there building their business. Their wife absolutely hates it and they don't understand what their spouse is doing whatsoever. All of it comes down to understanding why are you doing what you're doing. As a partner, we should want to better understand that so we can provide better support. Many people create a world in their own head and don't actually have facts or real data behind their thoughts. So they continue to be stuck in their beliefs all the time and then if they ever do blow up on the person and the person goes, oh my bad, I didn't even mean that. So it just means that for the last one week, two weeks, two months, two years, 20 years, that person was thinking of something that wasn't real. It wasn't real. They created the reality in their head. The biggest thing you can do is nip it in the bud as fast as possible. Do the correct things to get over it as quickly as possible and communicate to have an understanding. So at least the things that are being thought about are in fact reality. Josh has written a series of blog posts on what pro-lifers should say to someone who wishes they had been aborted, is happy about her abortion, or has post-abortive friends. But what should pro-lifers say to someone who performs abortions? He received this question from a Canadian named Daniel as a follow-up to his series. Josh wrote this piece after thinking, looking at other discussions, and getting feedback from Abby Johnson. After he published it, an abortion practitioner from the midwest reached out and said that she would love to have coffee or lunch with him if Josh is ever in her area.
