Show Notes Episode 458: How We Learned Not to Worry and Ignore the Bomb This week Host Dave Bledsoe slams half a bottle of tequila, jumps on the bar and screams “AIR RAID WARNING” before stage diving into the mosh pit. (It wasn't a mosh pit, it was a wedding reception, in which he had crashed. They were doing the chicken dance and he was arrested. Again.) On the show this week we tell you about that time in 1971 when the Emergency Broadcast System told everyone the end was nigh! (But it wasn't nigh, someone had a fucked up very, very, badly.) Along the way we discover that Dave doesn't think of himself as an “influencer”. (Anyone who is “influenced” by Dave needs to check right into rehab.) Then we dive right into why we have an Emergency Broadcast System (Harry Truman and nukes) and all the ways it went dreadfully wrong in 1971. (Honestly people , label your files clearly!  You will be glad you did!) Finally we examine why people just sort of stopped worrying about the end of the world from nukes. (Probably because of all the other ways it was ending right in front of their eyes.) Our Sponsor this week is Jimmy Earl's Bait Shop and Doomsday Supply. The end is near, but the fish are still biting.  We open with an innovative way of letting you know this is a test and close with The Black Jeans who have some balloons they bought. Send us a Text Message. This week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast we continued our series about learning waterways and species of fish that are new to you by hiring a fishing guide. Your host Downrigger Dale sat down with fishing guide Don Wilkins of 56 Fishing Guide Service for an amazing discussion about learning fishing techniques with fishing technology and oh so much more. Don guides on Fort Peck Reservoir and though he is fairly new to guiding he is hardly new to fishing; he's been doing it his whole life. Rigger got to know Don through the Captain of the Montana Outdoor Radio Show. It seemed like every time Rigger and the Captain would see Don out on the water he was reeling in a huge Salmon, Lake Trout or Walleye. In fact, Don was the first person that Rigger had met that could catch the big salmon through the ice on Fort Peck. You will also learn about how Don uses his Garmin Livescope to help teach his clients jigging and other techniques.  It really is amazing how it shows the jig and the fish approaching it and how his clients can see how the fish reacts to their technique. When you listen you will also hear Don go into detail about the gear, lures, bait and more that for he uses to catch the different species of fish in Fort Peck, and of course the techniques he uses to catch the King of the Fort Peck fish, the mighty King Salmon. WARNING: once you listen to all the things he tells Rigger about catching the incredible King Salmon you might just catch a nasty case of Black Jaw Fever! That is name for the addiction you will have once you catch on of those incredibly powerful fish. Just know that currently there is no cure for Black Jaw Fever. Don Wilkins can ease your symptoms by teaching you how to catch them but that just leaves you wanting more once the thrill wears off. Gang, DO NOT miss this Podcast!! Rachel and Melinda are joined, once again, by Stephanie Savage, The Executive Producer and Writer on The OC, to discuss, "The New Kids On the Block" (S2 Ep 3). Stephanie reveals the reason behind the creation of The Bait Shop and why the Cohen's house was under construction. They also dive into the purpose behind bringing Zach, Alex, Lindsay, and DJ onto The OC, and how they develop the storyline. Listen in to hear all three ladies gush about the male cast this season, and the "scruff" that makes them irresistible. Seth says everything we wish we could say as teenagers, and teaches us the most important lesson of all- that life is about learning from our mistakes. Stephanie sets the record straight, describing The OC as a celebration, but also a critique, of affluence. Our favorite show was designed to make a place for everyone, and to feel like home, for everyone who watches. The New Kids On the Block Synopsis: Seth is on a quest for selflessness to win Summer's friendship. He gets a job working for Alex at the music venue The Bait Shop so that he could get tickets for The Walkmen, to give to Summer and Zach. New student Lindsay and Ryan start off on the wrong foot, and when they're assigned as lab partners, they're both convinced they can't work together. Caleb assigns Julie as the new CEO of the Newport Group, shocking Kirsten and Sandy.

And even more so, when Ryan reveals her ex is a girl. Lindsay, Marissa, and Summer want a break from guy-drama and go for a Girl's Night Out. Seth, Ryan, and Seth aim to have a Boy's Night In yet end up crashing Girl's Night at the Bait Shop. Julie has an unconventional idea to help the Newport Group's image.

In the latest episode of Columbia House Party, hosts Jake Goldsbie and Blake Murphy are joined by comedian Lauren Mitchell (host of the @cavernofsecrets podcast) to discuss Death Cab For Cutie's enormous 2003 hit Transatlanticism. The podcast will explore bands that performed at The Bait Shop on the hit show The OC, which served as a snapshot and elevator of the early-2000s indie rock scene. Find out more about Ben Gibbard's workmanlike songwriting approach for Transatlanticism, what character Lauren compares Jake to a grown-up and divorced version of, and what teenage attachments the group has to Death Cab on this week's podcast.
