This week on the KOKO Show the crew headed down the Hume Highway to surprise our little leader upon his return from the land of the free and the home of the brave. That is right, we went full bloody stealth mode to ensure the unofficial King of Canberra got the serenade he deserved fresh off his business class flight home. Thanks to our special guest and former Wallaby Ben Alexander and his team at ‘The Dock' in Canberra we had a fun little get together in front of Goit's family and friends. We cover all things ra ra in the lead up to the start of the TRC focusing on the Wallabies matchup against the Springboks and touching on the All Blacks v Argentina clash. Gone are the ghosts of July series past and now it is time for the big dawgs to eat, woof, woof, woof baby.Plus, in partnership with our headline sponsor MYER we serve up another mouth watering ‘Match Fit' segment and this time it comes with undertones of capital chic, parliamentary poise and world leader wonderment. So get comfy in the backbench and play nicely with your ballot box as we crawl deep inside your cabinet. Troy Dodds and Nathan Taylor take a look at the week that was in Pantherland. On the anniversary of his death, we remember Ben Alexander. Plus the return of the chocolate soldiers, and do you remember the match day sausage sizzle at Penrith Park?
Ben Alexander is a high school dropout, and he runs one of the largest, most professional handyman companies in the United States. He started out as an HVAC tech and worked up to the equivalent of a master's license. He picked HVAC because there were more job opportunities. He-- never imagined he'd make the move from a designated skilled trades position to that of a handyman. What Ben couldn't understand is the negative stigma associated with handymen. He believed there was little difference between a handymen and tradesmen. Additionally, he realized how much work handymen could create for the skilled trades, especially plumbers. It's vital to have top notch customer service, as well as a great relationship with highly skilled local, licensed tradesmen. According to Ben, handymen don't do HVAC, plumbing, or electrical. His company has remodeled bathrooms, done paint and drywall, texture, window replacement, tile, carpentry, and exterior door replacement. College was never an option for him. His parents divorced. His father took the money and split. So he felt compelled to provide for his single, stay-at-home mom and his siblings. He went to the fire academy and found quickly it wasn't the route for him. He tried flipping houses, and that wasn't for him. Then he found out about HVAC and air conditioning in the classified ads of the newspaper. In trade school, he found he excelled at it — and realized he did poorly in school because he was bored. His first venture into the trades failed. His second company, a new construction and geothermal installation business thrived. He managed the residential service portion, and within eight years they were a $9 million company with 45 employees. His strong work ethic was built from necessity. He's couch-surfed and slept in garages during hard times, but the trades gave him a path to success, to a better standard of living. A brand-new venture begins as the guys start conquering the 100 Greatest War Movies of All-Time (according to PASTE Magazine) by starting out with a rather important one - the 1930 adaptation of book-to-silver screen All Quiet on the Western Front. The guys talk about how such a vehemently anti-war film in 1930 must have been quite a sight to see and discuss the censorship of the film throughout the world, the modern filmmaking techniques that even Steven Spielberg must've taken note of for his films, the strategic use of older actors playing the main teenage characters, the fascinating story behind the dying french soldier in the trenches and much, much more. It was the Dragnet Christmas story that kept on giving."The Big Little Jesus" first debuted on the Dragnet radio program that preceded the television show. "The Big Little Jesus" first ran on December 22, 1953. It was re-broadcast on December 21, 1954 and December 25, 1956. It made its television debut on December 24, 1953, as the seventeenth episode of the show's third season. It starred Jack Webb, Ben Alexander, Harry Bartell, Joe Carioca Jr., James Griffith, Ralph Moody, Herb Vigran, Walter Sande, and Billy Chapin. In the show's successor series, Dragnet 1967, it was redone and re-christened "The Christmas Story." That aired on December 21, 1967, and starred Jack Webb and Harry Morgan, and then practically the same cast! Bartell, Moody, and Vigran return, along with newcomers Bobby Troup, Byron Morrow, William Challee, Fernando Vásquez, Craig Huxley, and The Brady Bunch's Barry Williams. It's all about a missing statue of the Christ child that goes away from its manger right on the eve of ... well, Christmas Eve. We also review "The Big .22" Rifle for Christmas." It's the seventh episode of Dragnet's second season, and it aired on December 18, 1952. Like "The Big Little Jesus," it was repeatedly aired in the radio version of the show as well. It was first broadcast December 22, 1949, and then re-recorded and put out again on December 21, 1950. That second version also aired on December 20, 1951. It was re-recorded a third time and aired again on December 21, 1952. Versions also ran on December 20, 1955 and March 20, 1956.The television version stars Jack Webb, Herbert Ellis, John Martin, June Whitley Taylor, Sammy Ogg, Virginia Christine, Renny McEvoy, and Olan Soule. This is a tragic, gutting Dragnet Christmas tale about a gift that goes awry for two families. It's well-written, gripping, and not funny at all. Jez & Damo chat to the ACT Brumbies most capped player, publican & parkrun fanatic Ben Alexander, a power-house prop with 154 Brumbies appearances & 72 Wallabies caps. Learn how his parents steered him from the precipice of Uni & Rugby abject failure to a barn-storming 10 year career in the top flight, how running helped him through retirement & some tough times, what a PB leg press attempt & diarrhoea have in common & which Royal survived a meet & greet with the Wallabies on neat gin :-)
Dragnet is a 1954 film starring Jack Webb, along with Ben Alexander, Richard Boone, Virginia Gregg, Stacy Harris, Vic Perrin, and Ann Robinson. Richard Breen — the wordsmith behind The FBI Story — wrote this thing, and wow, does it show! Web plays Sergeant Joe Friday, everyone's favorite stiff, stern Los Angeles Police Department detective.Friday and his partner Frank Smith get assigned the homicide of a low-level gangster. They proceed to repeatedly harass their suspects, based on rather flimsy evidence for over an hour. Along the way, they run into a prosecutor who plays a serial killer in a later Dragnet installment, snide grand jury liberals, a nerdy beatnik musician, and poker enthusiasts!Áine and Kevin spout off rapid-fire responses around Dragnet's distinctive dialogue, overly-long shots, and the abuse of power.Follow us on the usual social media suspects:FacebookTwitterInstagramAnd send your Fifth Amendment cards to mysterytomepodcast@gmail.com.Mystery to Me is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Red Ryder was a Western comic strip created by Stephen Slesinger and artist Fred Harman which served as the basis for a wide array of character merchandising. The Red Ryder radio series began February 3, 1942, on the Blue Network. It was broadcast three times a week at 7:30pm Pacific time. When the Blue also acquired The Lone Ranger from the Mutual Broadcasting System, Mutual decided to compete by airing Red Ryder in the same time period. Thus, Red Ryder aired on the East Coast that year from May 20 to September 9 on Mutual. The series beat The Lone Ranger in the Hooper ratings, but the success was short-lived. Red Ryder was sold to a regional sponsor, Langendorf Bread, and after four months was no longer heard in the East. Mutual and Langendorf continued the series on the West Coast Don Lee Network through the 1940s at 7:30pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, always with the familiar organ theme, "The Dying Cowboy" ("Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie"). Announcers on the show included Ben Alexander and Art Gilmore. The continuing characters of the comic strip were also found in the radio series, produced by Brad Brown with writer-director Paul Franklin and writer Albert Van Antwerp. Reed Hadley portrayed Red Ryder on radio from 1942 to 1944, followed by Carlton KaDell (1945), and Brooke Temple (1946–51). Arthur Q. Bryan had the role of Roland "Rawhide" Rolinson, and Red's sidekick Buckskin was played by Horace Murphy. Jim Mather provided Indian voices. Numerous actors played Little Beaver, including members of the Hopi, Jicarilla Apache, Southern Ute and Navajo Nations. One of the most notable was Robert Blake (on credits as Bobby Blake), Tommy Cook (1942 on), Frank Bresee (1942–46, alternating with Cook), Henry Blair (1944–47), Johnny McGovern (1947–50), and Sammy Ogg (1950–51). During the same mid-1940s time frame, Henry Blair also portrayed Ricky Nelson on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. Billed as "America's famous fighting cowboy," Red Ryder was notable because he did not kill his enemies but instead aimed for their gun to disarm them. Such sound effects were handled by James Dick, Monty Fraser, and Bob Turnbull. This episode aired December 23, 1948 on Don Lee Mutual Network, air check from KHJ AM-FM, Los Angeles. Brooke Temple as Red Ryder, Johnny McGovern as Little Beaver, Art Gilmore is the announcer.

In this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing Ben Alexander, the retired Australian international Rugby player. Ben played for the Wallabies 72 times and also retired as the ACT Brumbies' most capped player with 152 games. Ben is now the co-owner of Canberra pub ‘The Dock' (Instagram: thedockcbr) and co-founder of meal tracking service Alfred (IG: the.alfred.app). The father of 3 is also on the ACT Brumbies Board, and The Dock was recently named ‘Canberra's best pub'. Ben started Alfred while he was playing, after getting frustrated with the current meal tracking apps, and designed Alfred to be the first meal tracking app that can “help do the work of tracking your food for you”, and launched it in the Apple App Store late last year. Ben is also a keen blogger and parkrunner. I'm a big Australian Rugby fan so it was an honour and a pleasure to interview Ben and gain some insights from his international sporting career, as well as his life after Rugby. We talk about accountability and culture within a team, motivation and also how sleep tracking and food tracking can help you bring your best self to the table every day, without needing to be a professional athlete! As the most capped Brumbie in Super Rugby, and having spent 72 games in the front row for the Wallabies, Ben Alexander knows his rugby. In this episode of 'One Game at a Time' from Rugby World Magazine, Ben talks to Sam Roberts about life in the front row, starting his career in England's second tier with Dan Cole, playing against the Springboks, losing against the British and Irish Lions and even, taking on a completely different trio every day. It's a wonderful insight into a fascinating rugby journey and his outlook on life and rugby can only make you smile. At one point in the interview, we discuss the tragic suicide of Dan Vickerman, one of Ben's former Wallaby teammates.
