The dance floor never lies! Jose talked about music the universal language, counterpoint in composition, why the stage sounds weird, sidechaining vocal fx and synths mixing, recording in the jungle, and building beats with Elektron and Ableton Live. Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.com My guest today is Jose Castillo, a producer/songwriter for artists seeking to bridge the gap between the latin and english-speaking world, and the pop and alternative worlds. Jose's discography has a great dance floor feel with a mastery of EDM style. His recent work includes Grammy and Latin-Grammy nominated releases by Camila Cabello, Bomba Estereo, Bad Bunny, Manu Chao, Fonseca, and many others. His unique background combines a Caribbean and Latin sensibility, with classical training in composition, and a special point of view that comes from having toured around the world's best festivals with Bomba Estereo. The Sounds of Colombia is a selection of music made in Colombia. My focus is on the Afro Sounds and Tropical rhythms. Cumbia is a native style created in Colombia that has had a broad impact in Latin American countries and also in Europe with musicians such as Will Holland (Quantic), Richard Blair "Sidestepper", Manu Chao, Joan Garriga (Dusminguet and Trova Kungfu bands) or Sargent Garcia. We will listen to some of the legends of Colombian music like Toto La Momposina, Fruko y sus Tesos, Joe Arroyo or Andres Landero. The show also includes the current wave of great musicians. Among these are Los Aterciopelados, Bomba Estereo, Ondatropica, La Chiva Gantiva, ChicQuibTown, Mojarra Eléctrica or Pernett & The Caribbean Ravers. Colombia has never stopped producing new genres of syncopated styles and many excellent bands and musicians. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/musica-con-m-de-mujer/support

For months, the flooding in Pakistan has been held up by global leaders as a prime example of why funding for so-called "losses and damages" is essential. As COP27 kicks off on Sunday, the stakes are higher for countries like Pakistan. And, the Russian invasion in Ukraine has called for a reckoning from other former members of the Soviet Union. Kazakhstan is experiencing a surge in nationalism — and a push away from Russia. Also, Nov. 4 marks the 100th year since the discovery of the tomb of Egyptian King Tutankhamun Nebkheperure (popularly known as "King Tut"). It was discovered in the Valley of Kings by British Egyptologist Howard Carter in 1922, leading to groundbreaking archaeological research. Plus, Manu Chao and Bomba Estereo team up for a new song.

Yuma, Sonic River, is a spellbinding journey along Colombia's sacred Magdalena river after the origin of Cumbia music. This film introduces folk musicians who give a unique insight into musical creation.
