With the Broncos firing of Head Coach Nathanial Hackett today, the Seahawks-related storylines are aplenty. Sea Hawkers Podcast Hose Brandan Schulze joins Dan Viens to dissect what happened to Russ in Denver and the impact it might have here in Seattle.... including how it might impact how the Hawks handle their QB strategy moving forward, and whether or not it's good or bad for them to make the playoffs this year. There have been several changes within the Seattle Seahawks franchise this offseason. With those changes come a lot of questions. Which aspects of the 2021 team are among the most intriguing once the seasons kicks off for Week 1? We discuss the top three storylines we see for the Seahawks as well as the top storylines outside of our Seahawks bubble. Phil joins us later in the show for some more Pain Games as we attempt to answer the question of which 'flop' would hurt worse between two players on offense and defense. Lastly, we dive into a question nobody else is asking: who deserves the pole position on Mt. Rushmore between Kurt Russell and Patrick Swayze. Join us live for an upcoming show! We've closed in on the end of this series like DK Metcalf chasing down Budda Baker. Appropriately, we are concluding the series by talking about the top safeties in the division as well as the top cornerbacks. We also rank the special teams units in the NFC West. Plus, Phil joins us again for another round of Pain Games. How can the Seahawks adjust to make some painful aspects of last season go away? We'll talk about the scenarios and what we'd like to see change in 2021. Be a part of the next 3 IN, 3 OUT by joining Spotify's Greenroom community. How do the Seattle Seahawks rank in the offensive trenches when compared to the rest of the NFC West? We revisit the trade that brought Trent Williams to the 49ers and reflect on just how many of the top offensive linemen in the division are in their 30s. While the NFC West has talent on the outside of the offensive line, the interior is a different situation. Tight end is similar with one player at the top and a difficult time trying to find the next best player who stands out in the division. Tune in late in the show as Phil brings back his "Pain Games" as we look at some either/or style scenarios for what we want to see from our Seahawks. On Monday, it became clear to the sports world that Julio Jones wants out of Atlanta. It’s no longer speculation—it came straight from his mouth when he admitted it on live television. After drafting a wide receiver in the second round and adding multiple undrafted free agents at the position, the message from John Schneider and Pete Carroll appears to be that they want competition behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. What would it take for the Falcons to part with him and would it even make sense for Seattle to make the deal? We take a look back at some of the success other teams have had trading for future Hall of Fame players and the compensation teams had to give up. We're also joined by Phil, who takes us through an exercise about how the Seahawks roster is shaping up through this point of the offseason. How do the Seattle Seahawks rank at the top skill positions when compared to the rest of the NFC West? We start with an uncontroversial stance that Russell Wilson is the top quarterback in the division, but which QB sits in the second spot in the division? The division may have some of the top wide receiver talent in the league, but where are they at in terms of running back compared to the rest of the conference? The Seattle Seahawks 2021 schedule was released on Wednesday and not only does our team land five prime time games, they come in bunches. The first three games of the season aren't much in terms of facing off against any bitter rivals, but once October hits then the schedule starts to get interesting. On Halloween, the Seahawks get to match up with the first overall pick and several former Seahawks players and coaches right before a mid-season bye. That gives Seattle coaches two weeks to prepare for a team that the Seahawks haven't been able to defeat on the road since 1999. Closing out the season, Seattle fans get to stay home for the holidays along with the Seahawks before taking on the Arizona Cardinals to close out the season. In Sunday's win over the Dolphins, the Seahawks put up 30 points or more in a situation we rarely see Seattle perform well. Brandan Schulze joins Anthony Nachreiner of the Nach on Sports this week to talk about how quickly Seattle was able to score late in both halves and the ability of the defense to limit the Dolphins primarily to field goals (although they continue to lead the league in yards allowed). Damon Harrison was added to the roster for the Seahawks this week and joins a defensive line that has already been strong against the run through the first quarter of the year. We talk about how Pete Carroll not only has a stellar record against the Vikings in Seattle, but also throughout his career since leaving Minnesota after being their defensive backs coach in the late 80s. Finally, we go through the Week 5 set of games and make our picks. This show begins with a look at the injury report for the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons as the teams go into their final day of practice ahead of Sunday's matchup. As the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs were kicking off the 2020 NFL Season, Brandan Schulze joined Anthony Nachreiner on the Nach on Sports to preview the Seahawks Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Issues on both the offensive and defensive lines are a concern, but the strengths of the Seahawks outweigh a lot of those issues in terms of the weapons Russell Wilson has offensively and the improvements on defense for Seattle as a whole. The NFL Draft kicks off tonight at 5pm PT, although the Seahawks won't likely pick until after 8pm in the evening . . . or later . . . or maybe not even at all. Regardless, we're going to be tuning in to see what Seattle ultimately does in the draft this year. Brandan Schulze joined Anthony Nachreiner's show The Nach On Sports to talk about his expectations for the Seahawks this year. Although General Manager John Schneider has accumulated picks in the past and frequently drafted in the double digits, there may be reasons to believe they'll turn in fewer than 10 picks this year. The Seahawks have made their first trade since the beginning of the new league year adding cornerback Quinton Dunbar from Washington. It's a move that's likely to reduce the workload for Tre Flowers next year. Anthony Nachreiner and Brandan Schulze talk about the Seahawks through the first week of free agency and how Seattle has loaded up on the offensive line. The signing of Brandon Shell means that Germain Ifedi is not likely to return and the signing of Chance Warmack may have the biggest upside of all the new players on the offensive line. For the second season in a row an NFC West team is in the Super Bowl and most Seahawks fans are cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs to take down their division rival. Is the San Francisco 49ers recent performance dominating on the ground take away from the likelihood we could see a tight end as the Super Bowl MVP? The Seahawks fell in the divisional round to the Green Bay Packers. Who deserves more of the blame between the offense that was unable to put up points in the first half versus a Seahawks defense that allowed three touchdowns? The Seahawks have plenty of cap space to acquire talent in the offseason, and keeping their own free agents on the offensive and defensive line could be a challenge. Anthony Nachreiner and Brandan Schulze also take a look at a possible Super Bowl matchup that would fit well into the storyline of the NFL's 100th season. Learn more about your ad choices. In this history of the Seahawks rivalry with the Green Bay Packers, there have been some incredibly memorable moments. From Matt Hasselbeck announcing to the viewing audience that "We want the ball and we're gonna score," the game where it snowed for the first time during a football game in Seattle, Golden Tate catching a game winning Hail Mary on Monday Night Football, and a wild ending to the 2014 NFC Championship. But who could have guessed that the yellow line on television would play such a large role in the closing moments of the latest game between the Seahawks and Packers. Going into this Sunday's game against the Packers, the Seahawks have a potential problem on their offensive line. Duane Brown is still recovering from knee surgery and George Fant has a groin injury. Both were limited in practice this week. Left guard Mike Iupati is doubtful for Sunday's game and if none of the three are able to play if puts Seattle in a tough position against one of the NFL's best group of pass rushers. Merry New Year! The Seahawks finish December by going 0-3 against their NFC West division rivals, and so it should be no shock that they're back in the same position they were last year. Instead of the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs, Seattle will face the Philadelphia Eagles and have a chance for a rematch against the division winner. Before getting there, Clinton Bonner and Brandan Schulze take a look at how they got there in a 26-21 loss that came up just short of the end zone. Lano Hill earns what might be a record for the longest nickname, Kendricks was allowing explosive plays to a fullback and Shaquem Griffin somehow doesn't even see the field on defense. A special episode to close out 2019! Jim Nagy, Executive Director of the Senior Bowl and former scout for the Seattle Seahawks, joins Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog and Brandan Schulze to get Jim's reaction to the game between the Seahawks and 49ers and look ahead to the Senior Bowl on January 25, 2020. Nagy talks about the culture of the Seahawks and how they've managed to stay at or near the top of the NFC West since the arrival of Pete Carroll in Seattle along with the work that General Manager John Schneider has put in toward helping build the roster. Looking ahead to Senior Bowl weekend, Nagy talks about what to look for in some of the drills particularly between the offensive and defensive line and recalls a story about L.J. Collier barking at Tom Cable during the drills and how that type of personality is something the Seahawks like to look for in players. The Seahawks are coming off another close win over the Carolina Panthers and it's something the team has done consistently this season. Though it looked like a 30-10 lead would lead toward their biggest blowout of the year, it now gives them a chance to set a record from back in the 1980s. Anthony Nachreiner and Brandan Schulze talk about the suspension of Josh Gordon, how it will impact the Seahawks receiving corps, and look ahead to the upcoming game with the Arizona Cardinals. Closing out the show, they offer up picks for the Week 16 games on Saturday and Sunday. The Seattle Seahawks bounced back from their only road loss of the season to win in Carolina, 30-24 over the Panthers. Clinton Bonner and Brandan Schulze take a look at the best and worst from the game and comment on the latest news about the Josh Gordon suspension. Gordon was part of the rise of the sexy deep ball this week as Tyler Lockett had a 44-yard catch in the first quarter, Gordon had his catch and Russell Wilson had two touchdown passes at the edge of the red zone. After talking about the jet sweeps last week, the Panthers were able to take a page from the Rams that helped them score their first points of the game against Seattle. A Happy Thanksgiving Day episode as we raise our glasses and toast the 9-2 Seahawks after they pick up their sixth straight win on the road for the 2019 season. With the win, Clinton Bonner and Brandan Schulze start with an "IN" as the two talk key in on one player in particular that had a big day in both stopping the run and disrupting Carson Wentz in the passing game. But there were also players and moments in this game that allowed the Philadelphia Eagles team to stay in this game when Russell Wilson could have been leading the offense on drives to put the game away early. As always, we talk about the good and we talk about the bad, in a balanced recap of the past week's game. The 6-2 Seattle Seahawks take on a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that has been a statistically top rushing defense this year, but is among the worst in the league when defending against the pass. Anthony Nachreiner of 600 AM KGEZ joins Brandan Schulze to preview Sunday's matchup. Anthonys says that with the Bucs' blitz heavy defense, it could mean a big day from Russell Wilson if he's able to take advantage of that secondary like other teams already have this season. Chris Carson could have a rough day if Seattle decides to run into the strength of Tampa's defense led by former Washington Huskies defensive lineman Vita Vea. On the offensive side of the football for the Bucs, Jameis Winston has a lot of talent on the outside at receiver as well as some underutilized talent at tight end. However, Winston has been a turnover machine as the Bucs have been averaging three turnovers a game over their five losses this season. Can Winston be patient and take what the Seahawks defense gives him, or will he try and make big plays into tight windows down the field? With the Bucs 2-5 record as an indicator, Anthony expects mistakes late in the game will provide Seattle with an opportunity to move to 7-2 on the year. Learn more about your ad choices. At 6-2, the Seattle Seahawks are halfway there (in terms of a potential postseason berth) and living on a prayer. Clinton Bonner and Brandan Schulze take a look at the 27-20 victory over the Falcons and talk about the best moments that you may have gotten overlooked as well as some of the things that helped contribute to the second half comeback by the Falcons. Clinton kicks things off by giving respect to one player in particular that he has been critical of in previous weeks, but after a game like the one he had, Rashaad Penny gets the first IN. Check out this week's show to find out why Jadeveon Clowney, despite a performance where he was in the backfield for a lot of the game, wound up with the final OUT of the day. The Seattle Seahawks are now 5-2 after a 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, and the 14-point difference was due to two offensive turnovers that the Ravens defense returned for scores. But does that fully explain the issues this Seahawks team has been showing through the first seven weeks of the season? Rob Staton of Seahawks Draft Blog joins Brandan Schulze to recap the Week 7 loss and the areas where Seattle is struggling most. Tied up at 13 at the half, the Ravens challenged Seattle to throw the ball coming out of halftime and it turned out to be a coaching move that helped to limit the Seahawks offense to only 3 points in the second half. The Seahawks finished the day just 1 for 3 in the red zone. Rob and Brandan talk about the other shortcomings of the team as the linebacker group continues to come up short of expectations. Rob suggests that the Seahawks may want to find another player on offense with Will Dissly out. The Seahawks haven’t been trusting their run game in short yardage situations and it might be why they are accepting the risk of long field goals over fourth down attempts in short yardage situations. Looking ahead at the schedule, Seattle now faces two NFC South teams that have combined for three wins. It gives the Seahawks a chance to bounce back before taking on the toughest part of their schedule against the 49ers, Eagles, Vikings and Rams in the following weeks. Going into the season, Seahawks fans all had expectations of how certain position groups would perform. After six weeks of football, there is a solid base of performance and metrics on which to base our opinions. Adam Nathan of the Pedestrian Podcast joins Brandan Schulze to do a schoolyard pick of the position groups on offense (QB, RB, TE, WR and offensive line), the areas of defense (DL, LB, DB), and special teams. It should be no surprise that the quarterback group is taken off the board first considering Russell Wilson getting attention as the league's leading MVP candidate through six weeks. Tune in to hear the order of picks, the rationale behind the decisions, and which personnel group is the last one picked. Many of these topics have been covered coming out of the game: the defense struggling to put pressure on Baker Mayfield, Russell Wilson's ability to lead the Seahawks back from big deficits, or Chris Carson continuing to play with his dominant, physical style. Clinton Bonner and Brandan Schulze team up to talk about four particular plays and two themes that may be under the radar coming out of the 32-28 victory. The guys start out by talking about one play by the Seahawks that might be getting more press because of the celebration, rather than the pass by Wilson and the hit that he had to take when delivering the ball to Jaron Brown. As Seattle improves to 5-1 on the season, please use this episode responsibly if deciding to turn it into a drinking game. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for Seahawks fans in this game watching the Rams get out to the early lead following a Jaron Brown fumble on the first possession. Later in the quarter, Russell Wilson connects with Tyler Lockett on an incredible play to put the Seahawks in the lead despite to early scoring drives by Los Angeles. Then it was back to the lows after Seattle chooses to play conservative and settle for a long field goal on 4th and 1. A miss by Jason Myers is followed by two touchdown scoring drives by the Rams and the two teams spend time trading scores in the second half. After Chris Carson bobbles a fourth down catch in the end zone for the go ahead score, it looks like Seattle had the game in the bag after an incredible interception by Tedric Thompson. Unable to get a first down, they give the ball back to the Rams who drive down and get in position for a game winning 44-yard field goal. Adam Emmert joins Brandan Schulze to talk about the highlights from Seattle Seahawks Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams. With all of the talk about Chris Carson taking care of the football after fumbling in each of his first three games, he played like a man who wanted to absolutely erase any doubts about whether he should lose playing time. Carson touched the ball 26 times for 145 yards in this game and was every bit the physical presence we were used to seeing last season. The Seahawks get the 27-10 victory in Arizona and appeared to come out of the stadium healthy, as that has been an issue in past seasons for the team. Russell Wilson took care of the football and added another touchdown pass to Will Dissly this season. C.J. Prosise ran in for a 9-yard score and Jadeveon Clowney intercepted a Kyler Murray pass to David Johnson to help put the Seahawks up by two scores in the first quarter. NorbCam joins Brandan Schulze to talk about the win as the Seahawks go to 3-1 in September and 2-0 on the road to start the season for the first time since 2013. Learn more about your ad choices. The Seahawks fall to 2-1 on the season and ruing a perfect September home record by Pete Carroll with a 33-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Ross Bell joins Brandan Schulze to talk about all of the frustrating moments from the game that led to a 27-7 deficit before the Seahawks finally mounted their fourth quarter comeback. Russell Wilson put up big yards through the air, but many of those yards didn't result in points. Seattle's usual bend-but-don't-break brand of defense did lots of breaking this week, and some key penalties led to Saints touchdowns. They also allowed the Saints to score in all three phases of the game, due in part to a rough game by Chris Carson. This week on the Nach on Sports, Anthony Nachreiner and Brandan Schulze look back to Week 1 and the Seahawks victory over the Bengals as well as the best and worst moments from that game for Seattle. Going into the season it seemed like the Bengals were supposed to be a bad team, but how do we really know if they're a bad team or not? With Antonio Brown going to the Patriots this week there were some reports of the potential that Brown could have been in a Seahawks uniform this season. What can we take from Pete Carroll comments in the press conference this week? Seattle goes on the road for the first time this season and Pittsburgh is their first opponent, but no matter which team Seattle plays in September on the road, it seems as though they tend to struggle. Brandan talks about how the struggle is real with the Seahawks. The guys close out the segment by going through their picks for Week 2. The Seattle Seahawks released their first official depth chart after announcing the 53-man roster and making a few changes in the days after the initial roster cuts. One of the biggest surprises was seeing D.K. Metcalf listed among the starters considering his limited action in the preseason. Not necessarily surprising was that Tyler Lockett is still the starter at special teams, yet somewhat surprising considering his importance to the team now as the top receiver on the team. In NFC West news, Jared Goff signed a deal to stay in Los Angeles through 2024 with a record amount of guaranteed money. Alistair Corp and Brandan Schulze go through a list of over/under stats for 2019. Will Russell Wilson top 4000 yards to help make his case for an MVP season with the Seahawks? Can Chris Carson eclipse his total carries from 2018. Can Michael Dickson put more punts inside the 20 yard line in the history of the NFL. It's tough to tell when we don't even know what the record is, but we attempt to make a guess. With Jadeveon Clowney now a member of the Seahawks, Alistair muses on the potential that he could be much better playing in the Seattle than he ever was in the Texans scheme. Lastly, we take a guess on where the team could be in terms of their record around the bye week. Leading into the 2019 Seahawks season there are questions for at every position groups. One of the most intriguing questions is who will take over for Doug Baldwin as Russell Wilson's favorite target. The easy answer is Tyler Lockett, especially after his season last year. He hit double digits in terms of his touchdown numbers, but never felt like the same type of red zone threat that Baldwin proved to be so good at and there also wasn't a clear favorite for going to on third down. Who fills that gap in 2019 and which one of the rookies have the highest expectations to produce early on? Clinton Bonner joins Brandan Schulze to break down all of the questions we have at wide receiver and tight end going into the upcoming season. Learn more about your ad choices. Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze take a look at the Seahawks 2019 Draft Class and all 11 picks from General Manager John Schneider and Head Coach Pete Carroll. With about a week to go before the draft, the Seahawks had a franchise low four picks, by the time the day was complete they were just one pick short of having the most selections of the entire draft (the Vikings had 12). The guys talk about which picks they're most excited about, which ones might be the most likely to surprise us, and listen in to some of the best phone calls from the first couple days of the draft. While there were some obvious themes to the draft, Adam points to one that is a little more under the radar, but when you hear some of the interviews with the players, it becomes pretty clear that the Seahawks were looking beyond what they saw on the field from their players. After looking at Seattle's draft, Adam talks about the quarterbacks from the draft as part of his annual breakdown of who he thinks will succeed in the NFL. Tune in to find out who is behind a portable power station that needs to do better, along with the rankings that say the Seahawks didn't get enough "value" in the 2019 draft. The Seattle Seahawks 2019 Draft class has been finalized and the team comes away with 11 draft picks after having only four selections a week ago. John Schneider made a record number of trades and even traded up on a couple occasions including a move up into the second round to pick up a wide receiver who was initially expected to be one of the first off the board in the entire draft.Rob Staton and Brandan Schulze run through the selections from the Seahawks draft and talk about what will be one of the biggest criticisms of the draft and how the team may have a plan for addressing additional needs along the defensive line. Rob talks about how Seattle could even consider going after Jadeveon Clowney, with the rumors that the Houston Texans may have been looking to get into a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.A report came out during the draft that Doug Baldwin may have played his last snap in the NFL and is considering retirement. Rob talks about how that could have played a role in the Seahawks grabbing two receivers with their first five picks. The slide down the draft board for D.K. Metcalf was a long one and when the Seahawks selected him at the end of round two, the emotion came out in his phone call with Schneider and Pete Carroll. Tune in to hear discussions around each one of the Seahawks selections: L.J. Collier, Marquise Blair, D.K. Just a week ago, the Seattle Seahawks only had four picks going into the 2019 NFL Draft. With the trade of Frank Clark to Kansas City and two trades down from the 21st pick overall and the 30th pick in the first round, Seattle now has a total of nine picks and their first round selection was TCU defensive end L.J. Collier. Collier is a player who had been previously discussed on the show, particularly because the Seahawks seemed to show so much interest in the pass rusher for the Horned Frogs. They had scouts at the Senior Bowl, they met with Collier at the combine, Seattle was on hand for the TCU Pro Day and the team invited him to the VMAC for a Top 30 visit. On the show, Rob Staton and Brandan Schulze go over the moves Seattle made in the first round and talk about the type of player they are getting with Collier. Rob says, "Be happy about this pick! L.J. Collier: great prospect, well worth a late first round pick, great choice by the Seahawks."He compares Collier's pressure percentage stats in 2018 to a couple picks who went ahead of him like Brian Burns and Montez Sweat, but says Collier comes without some of the main concerns that allowed those two players two drop out of the top 10.Brian Baldinger recently broke down some of Collier's tape on Twitter. "You ain't doing your homework on Collier, you're lazy. You're looking at stupid, underwear stats in Indianapolis. This guy's a football player.Where do the Seahawks go next? The guys look at some of the options at the top of the second round and look ahead to the fourth round at some of the positions they could now consider as the team holds four picks in the fourth round and two more picks in the fifth round. With only four selections going into the 2019 NFL Draft and looking at the prospect of paying defensive end Frank Clark upwards of $20 million per year, the Seattle Seahawks made a move this week. It's a move that increases the number of picks in 2019 to five, the add a second round pick in 2020, and they save about $17 million against the salary cap by making the move. But it creates a hole that Seattle will need to fill either through the draft or free agency. Brandan Schulze and Clinton Bonner talk about the trade, how it impacts the draft, and which players in free agency that Seattle could get to fill behind Clark. Having two draft picks at the end of the first round gives them options now to either stay put with the 21st pick overall or move back and compile picks in the second and third rounds where there is a lot of depth to help fill positions of need for Seattle. The Kansas City Chiefs trade for the Seattle Seahawks former 2015 second-round draft pick Frank Clark, sending the 29th overall pick to Seattle along with a second round selection in 2020. In addition, the Seahawks swap picks with the Chiefs in the third round this year. Clark gets a big contract as part of the deal. Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze react to the deal that gives Clark more than $63 million guaranteed and $105 million over 5 years. Considering the amount of money that Clark received from Kansas City and the compensation the Seahawks get, it's tough to be upset about the move. It makes a lot of sense for Seattle considering they were set to go into Thursday's draft with just four picks, plus they have Bobby Wagner and Jarran Reed on deck for contracts. Clark also had some interesting comments on the way out the door that he shared with ESPN's Josina Anderson. Adam and Brandan talk about how money equates respect in the NFL and how Clark appears to feel disrespected that the Seahawks weren't willing to pay him this amount to stay in Seattle. It's Mock Draft Monday for the Seahawks Draft Show, and this week Brandan Schulze and Rob Staton take a look at a few of the mock drafts from some of the national draft experts and sports networks. The first one looks at NFL Network's third mock draft by Daniel Jeremiah who has Seattle staying put with the 21st overall pick and selecting Mississippi State defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Rob and Brandan talk about the philosophy behind taking a player who will likely be sitting out all of 2019, but how it allows them to get long-term value for a player who would have otherwise gone in the first 10 picks. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. recently went back and forth with picks in their mock draft, and McShay had Russell Wilson's new contract in mind with his selection of Oklahoma offensive lineman Cody Ford to Seattle. Rob believes Ford may be the top offensive linemen in the draft and has the mentality that Seattle looks for at that spot. Neither of those two mock drafts has the Seahawks trading down, which Brandan and Rob both agree is the most likely outcome for Seattle considering how the team currently only has four picks over the three days. R.J. White of CBS Sports recognized this and has Seattle set to make trades with the Chiefs, Ravens and Jets on draft day to turn their four picks into seven. This particular draft also recognizes the team's needs, by taking a defensive back, defensive lineman and wide receiver with the Seahawks first three picks. Learn more about your ad choices. Each NFL team is allowed 30 official visits from players outside the local area. Historically, some of these players have ultimately become members of the Seahawks. But they may also provide us with an idea of where the team is at least focusing in the draft. Brandan Schulze and Rob Staton take a look at 16 of the players reported to have visited the VMAC leading up to to the NFL Draft, which will be held April 25-27. One thing that jumps out is the number of defensive backs who have made official visits. Could Pete Carroll be looking to replace Earl Thomas or is there another motive for Seattle for looking at this particular group of defensive backs? Rob also talks about what the Seahawks look for in their first overall pick. Superior athleticism has something that is generally focused on, but there are traits that made a lot of these picks stand out to the team. On offense, the players discussed are:Parris Campbell, WR — Ohio StateN’Keal Harry, WR — Arizona StateJace Sternberger, TE — Texas A&MDarwin Thompson, RB — Utah State On defense:Corrion Ballard, S — UtahSean Bunting, CB - Central MichiganChancey Gardner-Johnson, FS — FloridaDarnell Savage, S — MarylandDerrek Thomas, CB — BaylorJuan Thornhill, S — VirginiaKaden Elliss, LB — Idaho Dre Greenlaw, LB — ArkansasLJ Collier, DE — TCURashan Gary, DE — MichiganJeffery Simmons, DL — Mississippi StateD’Andre Walker, EDGE — Georgia Get the full list of player visits tracked, from pro day visits, combine meetings and local workouts on Field Gulls. Russell Wilson is now under contract through the 2023 season after agreeing to a $140 million four-year extension. Wilson was the first to announce the deal from his bed in the middle of the night after setting the deadline for negotiations at midnight of April 15th. Brandan Schulze and Adam Emmert break down at how the timing of the deal benefits the Seahawks, especially with it being a four-year extension. With a deal now done, it makes it enjoyable to go back and listen to some of the nonsense that fans had to endure leading up to the deadline. The show explores the comments from Jack Del Rio that he wouldn't be surprised if Wilson was playing somewhere else in 2019, commentary about how the Seahawks 2019 quarterback would come from this year's draft, and (maybe the most fun) about how Andy Benoit would rather see a team pay $18 million to Jacoby Brissett than by $25 million to Russell Wilson. There was also a lot of commentary leading to the deadline surrounding the idea that Russell Wilson wanted out of Seattle and how his new salary had the potential to be a percentage of the salary cap. Neither of those story lines ultimately played out and Russell Wilson's new no trade clause seems to negate the idea that Wilson desperately wanted out of Seattle. Learn more about your ad choices. With the Seattle Seahawks only having four picks entering the draft on April 25th, the most likely course will be to see Seattle trade down from the 21st pick overall. However, John Schneider said recently he "could see a very good player being there for us at 21." With that in mind, Michael STUFR Edwards joins Brandan Schulze on the podcast to reveal who the Seahawks should pick with the 21st overall selection in the draft. Leading up to the Seahawks pick, we go over the first 20 picks of the SB Nation NFL Writers' Mock Draft. Michael talks about the potential players who would be a great fit in Seattle that the team would want to stay put for if they fall in the draft, and profile Notre Dame defensive lineman Jerry Tillery as a player he thinks John Schneider would like to go ahead and take in that spot. Rob Staton from Seahawks Draft Blog then joins the show in the second segment to offer his thoughts on Tillery and some different directions the team could go in after a scenario where they likely trade down from their current spot. Based on some of the players they've brought in to the VMAC for a visit and players they've spoken to at the combine, wide receiver and defensive back appear to be a couple of the other likely areas they could choose. Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Demarcus Lawrence recently signed a contract worth upwards of $100 million. With Seattle Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark on the franchise tag, he is in position for a similar type of contract. What does that mean for the Seahawks going into the draft? Brandan Schulze and Rob Staton discuss the range of options the team has over the next couple weeks. From paying Clark now, making a trade ahead of the draft, or allowing him to play 2019 under the franchise tag before making a decision next season, there are benefits and challenges with any of the scenarios under consideration. With Russell Wilson wanting a contract signed by April 15th, it does take away the ability for the Seahawks front office to see if one of the top quarterbacks in the draft could fall to them in the first round. Is that a strategic move by Wilson's team, or something that shouldn't even be a concern considering just how few picks Seattle has at the moment? Regardless, Rob believes the Seahawks may end up calling Wilson's bluff on the mid-April deadline and we won't see a deal until later on. If negotiations continue through the month, drafting a quarterback late in the first round or early in the second round would be one way to have some insurance at that spot. Yesterday we explored a three-round mock draft and seven possible picks for the Seahawks in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft. In this show we explore some of the draft prospects who also have upside on special teams. With Tyler Lockett going into his fifth season and among the top returners in Seahawks history for punt and kickoff returns, Seattle could be considering some other options. We discuss four players coming up in the draft as well as a second-year player who had tremendous potential as a returner coming out of college last year. Learn more about your ad choices. With less than three weeks to go until the 2019 NFL Draft, Brandan Schulze and Rob Staton will be exploring different Seattle Seahawks mock draft scenarios every Monday. With only three Mondays leading up to April 25, this week's show kicks off with the likely scenario of trading back to acquire additional picks. Rob's seven-round mock draft for the Seahawks also covers the first 103 picks so we can see which players the Seahawks could be missing out on based on who they select. The first trade with Kansas City gives Seattle an additional third- and sixth-round pick, and a trade back with the Cardinals gives the Seahawks an additional selection in the fourth. Those moves would give Seattle seven picks to work with and a full day to make a decision on the first pick of the second round. The first pick goes to Arizona State wide receiver N’Keal Harry, who is reported to be coming to the Seahawks facility for an official visit. Tune is as Rob goes into depth on the reasoning behind the first three picks, including defensive end Charles Omenihu of Texas and safety Marvell Tell of USC. Defensive tackle Armon Watts of Arkansas, tight end Kaden Smith of Stanford, defensive tackle Greg Gaines of Washington and cornerback Derreck Thomas of Baylor round out the list of picks. On Tuesday, the news broke that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has set a deadline of April 15th to complete contract negotiations. But can it really be considered a deadline? If Wilson isn't planning to sit out offseason workouts or hold out into training camp, then the mid-April date should be considered more of a goal than an actual deadline. Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze are optimistic about the idea that it is a true deadline and a deal gets done, but will it do anything to stop continued speculation about all the other teams Russ would rather play for? Left tackle Duane Brown says he would like to see Wilson and the Seahawks throw the ball more in 2019. If the Seahawks wanted a more balanced offense, then they would need to shift back toward the pass after going run heavy in 2018. With so much talk about if it's better to pass or run, we settle on the simple fact that it's better to win than to lose. Apart from the final game of the season, the run heavy approach led to more winning than losing. Doug Baldwin has another surgery set for April, but despite a relatively productive season for a receiver over 30 years old, there is a question about whether Wilson's favorite target could be back in 2019. We discuss a receiver from the Mike Holmgren coaching era who played into his mid-30s who has a similar type of game. Max Unger has decided to retire, so maybe now is a good time to dig into which team really won the trade between the Seahawks and Saints. In the "Do Better" segment, the guys discuss the site of the NFL Draft as well as the Alliance of American Football and how many players we can expect to see in the NFL next season. Better at Life honors go to an AAF legend and to our rival Arizona Cardinals for the entertainment value their franchise provides as they are seemingly unable to manage the situation they find themselves in going into the draft. With the 2019 NFL Draft less than four weeks away, Brandan Schulze and Rob Staton will regularly be looking at the draft from the Seahawks perspective over the next few weeks. On this week's show we're talking about the tiers of players for the first three rounds and how the strength of the draft favors the Seahawks trading back for more picks in the second and third rounds. During the NFL owner's meetings at the end of March, Pete Carroll mentioned that the team looks at pressure percentages when considering pass rush ability. Rob offers up some of the top players entering the draft this year who Seattle could be considering. The player who ranked highest in that statistic was Josh Allen, a player the Seahawks met with at the combine. Allen will likely be long gone by the time Seattle is on the clock. Considering the Seahawks have met with Allen as well as Michigan defensive lineman Rashan Gary and Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, Rob and Brandan explore a few of the reasons why the Seahawks are meeting with players who are likely to go in the top half of the first round. It's easy to jump to the conclusion that Seattle could be open to trading a player like Frank Clark, but there are more likely options to consider. Rob points to the fact that so many of the top players from the 2013 draft have come through Seattle in recent years, it could be that John Schneider has discovered they didn't do enough to scout those top players at the time. Brandan mentions a recent interview with former Seahawks quarterback Jake Heaps and how the team likes to act as if it has a top pick in the event they find themselves with a top 10 pick in the future. Just a few days into free agency and the Seahawks have addressed two major areas of need with the offensive line and their kicker. Seattle has signed D.J. Fluker to a two year deal and brought in former Cardinals and 49ers guard Mike Iupati to fill in behind J.R. Sweezy who left for Arizona. Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze discuss how losing Sweezy means Seattle misses an opportunity to maintain continuity on the line, but the team philosophy remains in place to have an offensive line particularly skilled at run blocking. On special teams, they bring back Jason Myers, who lost out on the job in the 2018 preseason. Now he's signed to a four-year deal with the Seahawks. What is the need Seattle should focus on now that the initial wave of free agents have been signed. The Seahawks could still use another pass rusher whether they look to fill that spot through free agency or the draft. Their top player at that position went have sounding satisfied to play under the franchise tag a week ago, to a player who reportedly will hold out if a new contract isn't in place by training camp. With the departure of Earl Thomas, there have now been a few Pro Bowl caliber players to leave the team with very little to show for it. Should it bother Seahawks fans that these players are leaving at the end of their contracts rather than being traded the season before so they can get more immediate value in the draft rather than waiting for potential compensatory picks? Looking around the division, one team particularly active in free agency is the San Francisco 49ers. The guys take a look at some of their biggest moves and talk about where they might have some concerns in terms of cap space as they look down the road. The final segment of the show looks at what Area 29 meant to the Seahawks and even though his final moments in uniform will go down in infamy, it's still possible fans will see that number up in the rafters at CenturyLink in the future. The show kicks off this week with the news that the Seattle Seahawks are bringing back cornerback Akeem King on a one-year deal to return to the team in 2019. Earlier this week, the Seahawks announced they're placing the franchise tag on defensive end Frank Clark. By using the non-exclusive franchise tag, Brandan Schulze and Adam Emmert discuss how a team could potentially offer Clark a contract and if the Seahawks choose not to match then they could receive two first round picks as compensation. Does that explain why Seattle was reportedly meeting with prospects like Kyler Murray and Josh Allen at the combine? In the second segment, we tackle the question, "How much money is too much to pay Russell Wilson when it comes to his next contract?" Plus, if you're going to pay top dollar for a quarterback, what are some other areas the general manager has control over that he needs to operate at a high level to continue to succeed? With the notion floating around that the Seahawks should consider trading Russell Wilson, let's remember the last time the Seahawks had a long stretch in search of a franchise quarterback. It was the worst era of Seahawks football in franchise history. We close the show with a look at some of the news with our division rivals. Eric Weddle signs on with the Rams after being cut by the Ravens. In the Do Better segment, Adam points out a writer who says the Seahawks will regress in 2019 despite offering no real evidence apart from suggesting opponents will start to slow down the Seattle run game. Brandan takes issue with the nonsense surrounding Kyler Murray, particular the report that he inflated his height at the combine. Better at Life honors this week go to SpaceX for a recent launch and to an outstanding course taught at Cal State Long Beach. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The way the Rams and the Seahawks offseasons have gone, things couldn't be more different. With departing stars like Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett, and Cliff Avril now off the team on defense. Seahawks fans have also watched Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson sign big contracts to go to other teams in free agency. On top of that, Kam Chancellor career is in question and Earl Thomas held out from the team's minicamp. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams only seem to be adding stars. Brandin Cooks was traded to the Rams from the Patriots and on defense they acquired Ndamukong Suh, Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. Brandan and Adam talk to James and Bear about their feelings the directions the two teams appear to be going and why simply going by arrivals and departures could be a bit deceptive when it comes to both squads. One of the hallmarks of our talks with the Rams Podcast over the past two seasons, and now into our third, is our annual bet. The first year Adam lost a bet between Thomas Rawls and Todd Gurley. Last year was one between Cooper Kupp and Tyler Lockett. This year, the bet moves to the defensive side of the ball, as well as a bonus bet with both teams going head to head. In the second half of the show, the guys tease the new song "Crappin' on the Rams" which closes this week's show. Find out why Adam has some sentimentality to this one particular iconic 80s rock song that the new tune parodies. After some blowback last episode to Brandan's comments about the Godfather, he explains his position as to why he couldn't put it at the top spot for greatest movie of all time. The guys close the show with a listener submitted 'do better' for a great American accomplishment that may have gone mostly unnoticed in the news and a better at life nod toward Sandy Gregory, who started her career with the Seahawks in 1976 and just announced her retirement. Will Pete Carroll get more aggressive on fourth downs? Will the Seahawks season truly be UNLIMMMMITED? (36:00) Next up they’re joined by Ryan McKee host of the NBA Gambling Podcast and site editor at Sports Gambling Podcast. McKee takes a big swig of the Cardinals Kool-Aid with is optimistic take on Kliff and Kyler in year two. Kramer makes a case for Vance Joseph being a decent d-coordinator and their signs for regression from a five win season, while Sean compares them to this year’s Cleveland Browns. (65:55) Ryan and Sean are in agreement that this year’s Los Angeles Rams may be headed in the wrong direction. With Jared Goff, Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey eating up a giant portion of the cap do they have enough depth on the roster to succeed? Will more people join Sean on Jared Goff Sucks Island this year? Is there a case that Sean McVay has lost his touch? (84:45) The biggest question facing the 49ers is how real will their Super Bowl hangover be? Can their DL still dominate without Deforest Buckner? Is there enough surrounding Jimmy G to allow him to succeed? Can Kyle Shanahan still keep scheming up a winning offense? Is their 10.5 win total way too high?
