After about a decade of being frustrated, depressed, and unsatisfied with how much her lack of social skills and social anxiety was stunting her personal and eventually her professional growth, she had had enough of constantly avoiding social outings just to prevent potential social interactions. Her story is a little more unique because of her experience with being autistic, which was the source of many social and communication deficits. Because she was able to overcome her social and communication skills deficits despite being on the autism spectrum, she uses her platform and her 1-on-1 coaching services to help fellow introverted misfits who struggle with socializing and finding community – whether they are autistic or not – learn how to connect with others, create fruitful relationships, and have a manageable social life – without acting extroverted! ___________________________________________________________________________CONNECT with Lori: Facebook: @LoriMJewettInstagram: @jewettloriThe “80HD Book” - ORDER HERE! In a gripping conclusion to a tragic case, Adam Montgomery, a 34-year-old New Hampshire man, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of his five-year-old daughter, Harmony Montgomery. The sentencing occurred after a harrowing trial that shed light on the chilling details of the crime and the heartbreak it caused. Montgomery faced a series of charges including second-degree murder, second-degree assault, falsifying physical evidence, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with witnesses and informants. Despite being offered a lesser sentence of 35 years in exchange for revealing the location of his daughter's remains, Montgomery chose silence, a decision that prosecutors argued showcased his true nature. "He has just shown you again in this courtroom that he is heartless, immoral, and an unapologetic murderer of his own child," the prosecutor stated during the sentencing, highlighting Montgomery's refusal to cooperate as a clear indicator of his indifference to the gravity of his actions. During the trial, the court heard from several of Harmony's family members, whose victim impact statements painted a picture of the devastation left in the wake of the young girl's death. Crystal Sorey, Harmony's mother, tearfully described Montgomery as a "monster" and "coward." "Did she cry for me? Did she scream? Did she beg you to stop?" Sorey asked, her voice filled with grief. The defense, led by attorney Caroline Smith, argued that Montgomery's silence should not be interpreted as a lack of remorse, asserting that it was his constitutional right to maintain his innocence. However, this argument did little to sway the sentiments of the courtroom, filled with individuals aching for justice and closure for Harmony. The horror of the case was compounded by the details revealed about the manner of Harmony's death and the subsequent handling of her body. Testimony indicated that Montgomery had beaten his daughter to death during a car ride, after becoming enraged by her accidentally urinating in the vehicle. His estranged wife, Kayla Montgomery, provided critical testimony, detailing how Harmony's body was stored in a cooler and later moved between various hiding spots, including a ceiling vent and eventually, Montgomery's workplace. Prosecutors and family members alike lamented the fact that Harmony's remains have yet to be found, a reality that denies her loved ones the closure of laying her to rest. The state's insistence on a harsh penalty reflected the gravity and brutality of the crime, with calls for a sentence that acknowledged the irreversible harm done to Harmony and those who loved her. As the trial concludes and Adam Montgomery begins his sentence, the community and Harmony's family continue to grapple with the loss of a young life cut tragically short by unthinkable violence. The case leaves a lasting impact, highlighting the dire consequences of abuse and the profound sorrow inflicted on an innocent child and her family. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? From the moment it was released in 1995, The Rules was controversial.. Some people loved it—and swore that the dating manual's throwback advice helped them land a husband. Others thought it was retrograde hogwash that flew in the face of decades of feminist progress. The resulting brouhaha turned the book into a cultural phenomenon. In this episode I interview Caroline Smith, who is one of the co-founders of The British Society Of Myofunctional Therapy. You may not have heard of this society and nor had I until quite recently. When I did discover them I was really excited by the potential of this work and how it can help a number of our patients. Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is the “neuromuscular re-education or re-patterning of the orofacial muscles.” This therapy includes facial and tongue exercises and behavior modification techniques to promote proper tongue position, improved breathing, chewing, and swallowing. You may not be aware that most orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD) originate with insufficient habitual nasal breathing or with oral (mouth) breathing. In the latest twist of an ongoing legal saga, Adam Montgomery's trial over the alleged 2019 murder of his 5-year-old daughter, Harmony, is set to be postponed. Montgomery, already in the legal limelight following convictions on unrelated felony weapons charges, now awaits a crucial decision on the rescheduling of his upcoming trial. Public defender Caroline Smith, representing Montgomery, filed a request on Wednesday seeking the trial's delay, citing the necessity for a new co-counsel. Scheduled originally to kick off with jury selection on November 20, Montgomery has chosen to waive his right to a speedy trial in light of these developments. "The circumstances leading up to this delay are intricate and essential for the court and public to understand," states the request. Robin Davis, formerly Merrimack County Attorney, had been listed as the co-counsel. However, in an unforeseen turn of events, Davis has accepted a non-lawyer position within the public defender's office. Clarifying the rationale behind the reshuffle, Smith mentioned, "The new position, and especially the reasons that have caused her to need to leave her attorney position and seek the non-attorney position, prevent her from continuing as co-counsel in this matter." Efforts to obtain comments from Sarah Rothman, the executive director of the New Hampshire Public Defender Office, proved futile on Wednesday, leaving many details surrounding this development obscured from public knowledge. With the introduction of a new co-counsel into the mix, the delay is seen as a pragmatic move to grant adequate preparation time. "A trial of this magnitude and sensitivity demands meticulous preparation, ensuring all involved parties are adequately equipped for the proceedings," a legal expert commented on the case's latest developments. To add further complexity to Montgomery's legal circumstances, back in June, a separate jury delivered a guilty verdict on six unrelated felony weapons charges leveled against him. He has since directed his legal efforts towards an appeal to the state Supreme Court. The core of this appeal hinges on the legitimacy of allowing testimony from Montgomery's estranged wife, Kayla, during the four-day jury trial which culminated in his conviction. Judge Amy Messer's decision to sentence Montgomery to a minimum of 32 years in state prison on those charges stands as a testament to the gravity of the crimes. Nonetheless, during the pronouncement of the sentence, Montgomery took the opportunity to assert his innocence regarding his daughter's death. "I love my daughter unconditionally and I didn't kill her,” adamantly proclaimed Montgomery, urging the jury to separate his prior convictions from the murder allegations. The state's pursuit of justice for Harmony Montgomery has garnered national attention, sparking debates on the efficiency and challenges within the legal system. With the trial's impending delay, one thing remains clear: the pursuit of truth and justice for Harmony is a path laden with unexpected twists and legal intricacies. As the legal proceedings unfold, the public watches with bated breath, hoping for a conclusion that serves justice. For now, all eyes are set on September 28th, the scheduled date for the hearing to decide on the trial's delay. It serves as yet another crucial juncture in this convoluted journey to justice for Harmony Montgomery. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? The evil that the United States has encountered has been a product nothing short of the sinful desires of man, a lack of desire to adhere to the Bible, a lack of understanding of the Constitution, and people with an evil agenda being elected into office. Not that the right is perfect, because it is not, but the wickedness that we have seen has come primarily from the liberals. It is the liberal agenda that supports the vile murdering of babies, the teaching of sexual deviance to children, the creation of racial offenses, and more. It is time for Christians and patriots to rise up and speak the truth. The mission of my podcast is to spread the light of the Gospel into every aspect of life. This should be the mission of every Christian, young and old. In this episode of A StoneWall's Perspective Podcast, Alex interviews 16-year-old patriot, Caroline Smith. Caroline hosts a conservative political show, The Patriot Talk. She has also had amazing opportunities to interview some of the biggest voices in the movement including Turning Point USA President Charlie Kirk, Congressman Mo Brooks, Congresswoman Kat Cammack, Former Trump White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, Gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and so many more! She has also been blessed to commentate on national networks such as Newsmax, One America News Network, and Real America's Voice. Caroline is also an ambassador for Turning Point USA, the biggest conservative youth organization in American history. I hope you enjoy this episode with Caroline. After reflecting in isolation, millions of adults got fed up and voluntarily quit their jobs in record numbers, and teenagers have also been ready for a change. But what does that look like? Today on MindShift, we're talking to Caroline Smith about the great resignation and what that looks like for schools.
In the first very special episode of tipsyturvy Ulysses, Eric, Wendy, and Shinjini set aside the next episode of Ulysses in favor of a Joycean digression. Eric introduces Wendy and Shinjini to some of his favorite allusions to and imitations of “Calypso”—specifically, a passage from Zoë Wicomb's David's Story (2000) and a response to a short story assignment from a class in which Eric taught Ulysses. (If Joyce has any serious competition in Eric's heart, it's Zoë Wicomb.) Recommended Resources: Eric's article on Ulysses intertexts: “Tupperware and Flowerville: Consumerism, identity politics, and intertextuality in David's Story and Ulysses” The novels of Zoë Wicomb, especially David's Story and Playing in the Light Wicomb's essay about “coloured” identity and immediately post-apartheid politics in South Africa: “Shame and identity in the case of the coloured in South Africa” A great essay about the history of “coloured” identity in South Africa during and after apartheid: Mohamed Adhikari, “Hope, Fear, Shame, Frustration: Continuity and Change in the Expression of Coloured Identity in White Supremacist South Africa, 1910-1994” Eric's style imitation assignment Theme song: “Come on Over” by Scalcairn, via Blue Dot Sessions Special thanks to Carin Goldberg, whose cover design for the Gabler edition inspired our logo, and Caroline Smith, who allowed us to read and discuss her excellent short story. Eric recently discussed Ulysses as a guest on the library research podcast Lost in the Stacks with future tipsyturvy Ulysses guest Charlie Bennett as part of their ongoing series "How to Read a Book."

RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjarding MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio audio described theatre reviews. This time Vidar was reviewing the longest running Christmas show in English Theatre history, ‘The Snowman' at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre with live audio description by Julia Grundy and Caroline Smith. This is the theatre production of the classic film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates which was first shown on Channel 4 on Boxing Day 1982. Based on Raymond Brigg's much-loved book and featuring Howard Blake's classic song Walking In The Air, this enchanting live show has thrilled audiences throughout the world since first appearing on stage over twenty-five years ago, going on to become the West End's longest running Christmas show. When a young boy's snowman comes to life on Christmas Eve, the two set off on a night-time quest for adventure. They meet Father Christmas, dancing penguins, reindeer and crowds of The Snowman's friends, but will they escape evil Jack Frost and get back home for Christmas morning? Vidar began by metaphorically taking Toby ‘Walking in the Air' as the famous song by Harold Blake goes and he explained to Toby how a show like The Snowman, which is purely a magical Christmas dance production with no dialogue at all apart from Farther Christmas going ‘Ho, Ho, Ho' was brought to life to him through the well crafted audio description by Julia Grundy and Caroline Smith. Sadly due to Covid restrictions there was not the opportunity of a touch tour to explore some of the 60 costumes that are used in the production including 11 alone for The Snowman. As Vidar is a real fan of anything to do with Christmas ‘The Snowman' always features on his Christmas theatre wish list and hopefully next year when the longest running Christmas show in English Theatre returns to the Birmingham Rep there will be the opportunity for blind and partially sighted patrons to go on a touch tour to explore the costumes, props and the set of this magical production too. Permaculture is a popular topic on PGAP. Many who practice permaculture tend to also resonate with post-growth ideas. But for those in the post-growth movement who don't like to garden, are there still things we can learn from permaculture? Can permaculture principles be applied to the wider economic, political and social change movements, or should permaculture keep itself to the garden bed? A new book, ‘The Politics of Permaculture' endeavours to unpack the theory and practice of this popular and broad social movement. Author Terry Leahy collated many interviews and points of view from permaculture practitioners across the world, from Australia to Zimbabwe and everywhere in-between, to capture the many perspectives of how permaculture is understood. He shares this and more with PGAP, including his own vision for a future gift economy. Having crossed paths with Terry Leahy through several community, gardening and permaculture initiatives in Melbourne, it was fantastic to reconnect with Terry again and dig in deep (literally and figuratively) over this very fascinating and thought provoking book. RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjarding MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio audio described theatre reviews. This time Vidar was reviewing the RSC's new musical production for all the family, 'The Magician's Elephant' which was audio described at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on Tuesday 30 November at 7.15pm with live audio description by Julia Grundy and Caroline Smith. The Magician's Elephant is set in Baltese a town where nothing extraordinary ever happens. Recovering from a recent war, it's a lonely place, where young Peter lives a harsh life. Then one day, a magician conjures an elephant from the sky. The creature's appearance sets off a chain of events so remarkable, so impossible, that it changes Baltese forever. Peter is catapulted into the quest of his life, overturning everything he ever thought he knew, and discovering that happiness can come from the most unexpected places. This new musical for all the family reminds us all that even the impossible can be possible when we open our eyes and hearts to those around us. Adapted from Kate DiCamillo's prize-winning novel, directed by Sarah Tipple (Associate Director The Boy in the Dress) and designed by Colin Richmond (Wendy & Peter Pan). Vidar started by explaining to Toby why the AD performance of The Magician's Elephant would be one he may never forget and how good it was to be back at the RSC as the production had been scheduled for late 2020 but delayed due to the pandemic. Vidar stated how useful he found the introductory notes for the AD performance along with a limited touch tour due to Covid restrictions which included a very good talk by the describers Julia Grundy and Caroline Smith along with some of the stage crew on how the puppetry of the Elephant worked. Vidar said that the music and songs of The Magician's Elephant must have been good as it is always a good sign of a musical if you start humming the tunes as you leave the theatre. At the moment there is no news on whether 'The Magician's Elephant' will be touring or coming back to the RSC later in the year however, if it does Vidar certainly recommends the show as a treat for all the family.
