Trying something new shouldn't feel like failure waiting to happen, but for many Catholic homeschooling moms, even good changes can trigger self-doubt, pressure, and shame that makes you want to quit, sometimes before you even start. I don't want you to get stuck there, especially at the beginning of Planning Week when 100+ Catholic homeschoolers are learning new things for their homeschool year. I want to help you understand why your brain resists change, how it quietly sabotages your best intentions, and what to do when your inner dialogue starts to sound like a middle school bully. So grab your earbuds to learn: Why certain questions like “Why can't I figure this out?” are actually harming your confidence. How to shift from self-criticism to self-coaching with healthy self-love. Why mindset work is essential for you as a mom, and how it impacts the way you speak to your kids. Practical, grace-filled thoughts to help you persevere through discomfort, not shrink from it. The work you're doing matters, mama. You matter. How you feel matters. And it's entirely within your control to shift and change. Homeschooling isn't just about your children's education. It's an opportunity for you to grow closer to the Lord and it starts with how you speak to yourself. The year Maria Morera Johnson turned 49 almost did her in. Maria faced intense stress in every aspect of her life. The lowest point was when she had a stroke.  “I was an absolute physical, emotional, and spiritual mess.” Maria survived and went home carrying a lot in her heart to reflect on. She decided to attend a spiritual retreat at The Monastery of the Holy Spirit. It was there that the Lord calmed her spirit.  While Maria walked around the abbey grounds, she prayed the Rosary and sensed Our Blessed Mother holding her hand. Maria also experienced the Lord's presence as she sat in the chapel.  Maria's time at the abbey transformed her spiritual life and affected her in every way. She started journaling her conversations with Jesus and continued for many years. It felt like her salvation.  Be encouraged to deepen your spiritual life as you listen to this mini-retreat in a podcast from the “Women of Wisdom" series!   Learn more about Maria and her work at mariamjohnson.com.

We're halfway through summer, and many Catholic homeschool mamas are feeling that tug to start planning for the new school year, or at least start thinking about it.  Whether you're knee-deep in organizing your curriculum or still trying to enjoy summer break, I want to help you avoid some of the biggest pitfalls I see moms fall into when planning their homeschool schedule. This week, I'm talking about the top three planning mistakes that can make your days feel more chaotic than peaceful. I'll share the one mistake that I see Catholic homeschool moms make more than anyone else. It has nothing to do with planners or curriculum... and everything to do with your heart, which might be feeling a bit burnt out right now. We'll explore why the solutions I'm offering to these three mistakes matter so much, and how skipping these steps keeps you feeling overwhelmed and behind.  I'll also share what's really going on underneath it all when you hesitate to plan or follow through, and how to start shifting that mindset with God's help. This episode will help you clear the mental clutter, reconnect with your purpose, and move forward with more peace and confidence, no matter where you're starting from. Timmere and Catholic parenting coach Catherine Johnson just hit it out of the park with this episode of Trending. If you’re a Catholic mom (or know one!) feeling like you’re barely holding it together, this conversation will feel like a giant, grace-filled exhale. You can listen to the entire episode here! "Catholic mom guilt" is that feeling of never doing enough, especially when we’re comparing ourselves to other moms. But here’s the thing: a lot of us don’t even realize we’re carrying this guilt until it’s quietly wrecking our peace. It’s sneaky. Like spiritual glitter. Compare & Despair: The Catholic Edition Ever see another mom totally crushing it and then suddenly find yourself spiraling into thoughts like: "I don’t pray enough." "My kids don’t know the St. Michael Prayer by heart!" "I forgot to make Zeppole for St. Joseph’s Day... again." You’re probably not called to 6am Angelus with toddlers if you’re 39 weeks pregnant and haven’t slept. And that’s okay. Guilt vs. Conviction: How to Tell the Difference Timmere and Catherine get into a super helpful distinction: Healthy guilt = the Holy Spirit nudging you toward holiness, like "you snapped at your kids, go apologize and confess." Toxic guilt = inner condemnation, "You’re the worst Catholic mom ever, how dare you skip that novena?" If your inner voice sounds more like a bully than Jesus, it’s not from God. When Mom Guilt Turns into Mom Condemnation Another nugget: If you catch yourself being a little judgy toward the moms who are “doing all the things” ... that might actually be your own mom guilt, just wearing a mask. Time to flip the script and get curious: What is it about that other mom’s life that’s triggering something in me? Is it something I admire but am not ready for? Or something that’s just... not my calling? Authenticity Over Perfection Timmere reminds us: your domestic church doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s.Take the things that inspire you and make them your own. Some moms wake up their kids with a bell and pray the Angelus. That’s beautiful. Others pray a morning Hail Mary while surviving the cereal chaos. Also, beautiful. And that “perfect mom” you see on social media? She’s struggling too. Promise. Timmere admitted to losing her patience recently; she apologized to her kids, and later her 4-year-old apologized back. Modeling mercy is one of the most powerful ways we can teach the faith. Let them see you mess up. Let them see you get back up. Practical Takeaways for Catholic Moms Catherine shares two golden nuggets: Learn how the Lord speaks to you: When you can tell His voice from the world’s noise, parenting becomes way more peaceful. Learn to receive mercy: God is gentler with you than you are. Let that sink in. And finally: instead of chasing someone else’s Catholic parenting blueprint, ask: “Lord, how do YOU want me to raise these little saints?” You're Not Called to Be Her. You're Called to Be YOU. This episode was a giant permission slip to drop the guilt, laugh a little, and lean into the grace. You're doing better than you think.

Y'all, this was such a treat of a conversation for me. I sat down with Heidi Bratton this week to discuss how God calls us to a kindness that beautifully expresses our maternal love. Yet, as Heidi so beautifully writes in her She Loved letter - we often fall into the trap of believing the lie that we must decide between efficiency OR kindness when living out our maternity. But what if kindness is always the answer, regardless of whether or not we tend to the duties of the day with efficiency. I hope this conversation blesses you as it blessed me!Check out all things Heidi here!Heidi on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B001HPDO00?ccs_id=f9c10b18-aada-4b85-a00d-46f64a238e28Heidi's Photography"https://www.somethingbeautifulphotography.com/Have an episode idea you want to hear about? Of the over 600+ Jewish laws at the time, Jesus revealed the two great commandments. The first commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. The second commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. In this episode, we discuss the great calling to be contemplatives and evangelists simultaneously. In his profound revelation of the two great commandments, Jesus reveals to us the importance of communing with and loving the Lord interiorly, which then leads us to and perfects our capacity to love others exteriorly. Have an episode idea you want to hear about? In Happy, Holy Mama this week we are diving into the concept of becoming happier through learning how to suffer well. And when I was thinking about what I wanted to share on the podcast to support my students in that process, I couldn't stop thinking about an episode I released last year for the 20th anniversary of my first husband's passing. I had already experienced quite a bit of suffering in my life prior to becoming a 20 year old widow, but that experience took what I thought I knew about suffering to an entirely new level. It also showed me what I was capable of. And more importantly, it showed me what God is capable of through my fidelity to unifying my will to His will for my life, regardless of how difficult the circumstances might be. This skill is vital for our happiness, not just in eternity, but right now in this life that God is knitting together for us, with our cooperation, moment by moment. I am honored to share my experience, knowledge, and training as a life coach with my students in the program to teach them how to do this for themselves on a daily basis! And I am honored to share my story again with you here today, as we go into Holy Week and suffer with Christ on calvary, in our day-to-day lives. “Healing happens organically as love is being expressed,” says Dr. Bob Schuchts of the John Paul II Healing Center    In this mini-retreat in a podcast, Dr. Bob shares how important it is to listen and be attentive to what spiritual practices the Holy Spirit is drawing you to this Lent--so the Divine Physician can bless you with healing.   As we look at our patterns of sin and chronic wounds we have carried with us for a long time, we must remember God sees us in our wholeness. And remember that we cannot fix our own brokenness; however, we can name it and bring it to Jesus for healing.    Dr. Bob shares stories, including when he had a panic attack and realized his own need for healing. As Dr. Bob engaged in the healing process, he learned that beneath his anxiety was abandonment from his parents' divorce. The pain in his heart began to heal through the love of God and he forgave his parents. Healing is a life-long journey that we all need to engage in.     Pope Benedict XVI said, “Whoever truly wishes to heal man must see him in his wholeness and must know that his ultimate healing can only be God's love.”    May we bring all of ourselves to God this Lent, to discover the healing touch of The One who loves us completely.    Learn more about Dr. Bob Schuchts, the John Paul II Healing Center and more opportunities for healing at https://jpiihealingcenter.org.
