As we approach the five year anniversary of the podcast (and who would have thunk that would have been a thing) I never thought I would have been reading a recipe out loud. But after a bit of kerfuffle at Ant's end, I received the JPEGs required to make it possible. There is of course good reason, and it's a little complicated, but it involves fish finger apathy and me forgetting to listen to Holidays in Eden and by the time you get to the end of #228 it should all make some kind of sense. And to bring you all bang up to date, I did indeed break out the pans and bash through said recipe and, despite getting a little over-enthusiastic with one of L's devices and dicing mi onions to mush, it went down rather well with at least 50% of the household.Oh, and after consultation with L and Vibes, the man who wrote the Haynes manual for the Boeing 737 was (drum-roll) Charles Kennedy!Love'n'the-other-nobby-stilesNigellaP.S Ant apologises for being a bit snuffly.Cabin PressureTCD Merch StoreBecome Purple and support the showThe Invisible Man Volume 1: 1991-1997The Invisible Man Volume2: 1998-2014FacebookInstagramWebsite

Directing and cinematography are two essential components of filmmaking that play a crucial role in bringing a story to life on the big screen. The art of mastering directing and cinematography involves a deep understanding of storytelling, visual language, and technical expertise. This requires not only artistic creativity but also a strong ability to collaborate with others and manage the many moving parts of film production. In this episode, I am joined by Charles Kennedy Jr., director and cinematographer, to talk about mastering directing and cinematography. Charles shares the experience of growing up in Livonia, the experience of working as an audio editor at a church, and how he got into the film industry. Charles discovered his photographic talent during his sophomore year at Lawrence Technological University, where he studied Media Communication. He began his undergraduate career with an emphasis on audio engineering, but gradually changed to film production and photography. He also talks about how to capture dark skin as a cinematographer, being great at both directing and cinematography, and the difference between the narrative brain and the cinematographer's brain in commercial work. In 1870 New Mexico, few things get people in the saddle like the prospect of a bright and shiny future – especially in the form of gold. Big and small make pilgrimages to the mountains "Sangre de Cristo" (Blood of Christ) with an ambition and a hope to find both gold and green forests. But not everyone in the mountains considers gold to be the greatest treasure, and soon it is not only the blood of Christ that flows in the mountains. What dangers lurk in the borderlands besides bears and cougars? And how far are people willing to go for their dreams? From Podimo and Vespucci — this is The Darkness Vaults, released weekly on Wednesday.

In our 192th ever Rum Doings, our topic is, in light of the Britain's Got Talent fiasco, should all dogs be put down? Topics this week include Seppastian Blatter's evil ways, Nick's failed attempts to guess newspapers from headlines, and a couple of thoughts on Charles Kennedy. We worry about rollycoasters, explain why Toby is so very, very interesting, and Nick realises that being a Conservative makes you a baddie. Who is the real idiot when it comes to pooing in your pants? Nick explains John's outfit of a tracksuit and semen-stained top. And we finish with a superb letter from our listener.

Sue Lawley's castaway this week is the leader of the Liberal Democrats Charles Kennedy. Born in Inverness, Charles grew up on a croft near Fort William spending his early life learning how to shear sheep and milk cows on his grandfather's neighbouring farm. Music was always a big part of life with his father playing the fiddle at home and at local events but Charles's real passion was astronomy. He saved to buy a three-inch refractor telescope from his pocket money inspired by the Apollo Moon Landings and encouraged by the clear Highlands skies.Politics and current affairs were another early passion. He ran home from school to catch news of the Watergate hearings on television, he was a star of his school's debating society and one friend recalls how he always dreamed of becoming prime minister. His first political allegiance was to the Labour Party, but at University he switched to the newly formed Social Democratic Party - eventually taking a seat for them in 1983 General Election at the age of 23. Now, 20 years later, following various incarnations of the party, the Liberal Democrats hold a record number of seats in the House of Commons and are hoping to become the main party of opposition in Britain today.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: The Cameron Highlanders by Ian Kennedy Book: The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth Luxury: CD player
