More than 50 million viewers begin each new year looking to Pasadena, tuning into the Rose Parade to see flower and seed-coated floats cruise slowly down Colorado Boulevard. But to nearly 140,000 of those viewers, the “City of Roses” is home, a complex suburb of downtown Los Angeles with a deep history. Internationally known for the Rose Bowl, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena Playhouse, the Arts and Crafts Movement, Jackie Robinson, Julia Child, Octavia Butler, Mildred Pierce, its little old ladies, the Arroyo Seco, and so much more, Pasadena has played a greater role in American and Pacific histories than most of its residents even know. The fourth season of Western Edition — the podcast from the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West (ICW) — digs deep into the “Crown City” of the San Gabriel Valley. Western Edition: Hidden Pasadena shares six little-known Pasadena stories, from Simons brickyard to Vroman's bookstore, St. Barnabas church to the Shoya House at The Huntington. It also considers Pasadenans from the past, from John Brown's children to John Birch's followers.

Artwork leads to passion for virgin artist. By SoCaliDude. Listen to the Podcast at Steamy Stories. I'm a 19-year-old sophomore at Pasadena City College where Ron, 24, graduated a few years earlier. He's now a junior at CSUF. Ron and I met at a retirement event for our favorite teacher, Joe Keene. I'm a 5-7, average blonde, brown eyes and freckles. Ron is 5 foot 10 with brown hair and green eyes. Folks say I'm shy, but Ron say's my smile is captivating. while Ron could talk to anyone. His friend Joe suggested that we date, but I wanted friendship to prevent dating "distractions." [[MORE]] I'm was an art major. Ron is a media major. Later, Ron bumped into me at Nicodel's, a popular Colorado Boulevard lunch spot across the street from P.C.C. Many of us ate there as our campus cafeteria was awful. As in really awful. Nic's had great food, was quiet with red brick and plenty of plants. When Ron arrived, I was in a, rear, booth, crying. When he asked why, I told him the guy I hired to pose for my final figure project took my $100 and walked out. "I had to draw him today,, I sobbed. It's my final project... I am ruined!" "What were you drawing? Why $100?" "Silly boy, it was a figure pose... as in nude..." I explained. "Oh, he said. "I didn't know... I bet there are plenty of guys, on campus, who will get naked for you..." "Yea, right," I responded. "They will want something other than $100, and I am, now, broke and I don't want their STDs. This is a major project. I am in, awful. trouble, here..." "If you need a naked man, and put someone else's face, I could volunteer if you let me take naked pictures of you for my photo class..." "Seriously?" I said. "Kind of like me posing for Playboy? That is a college girl's fantasy." "Seriously..." Ron responded. "My SLR is in my car. I just need some 400 film-for natural light. Do you really want to pose nude?" "I really need this grade... I am not much to look at... Covered with freckles and a hairy bush. I hope I don't scare you away..." "You won't scare me. I lost my v-card last year and hairy pussies turn me on.." "I hope you aren't planning sex," I admitted. "I've never even seen a naked guy and still am a virgin.." We walked to his car, drove to the store-for film, and to my house... "My mom is on the closing crew-at Sears, so we have about six hours of time..." Ron dropped me at her door and parked his Camaro on the street... probly not believing I would see me, naked, within the hour... He knocked on the front door, I shouted, "It's unlocked, walk in. I am changing into my bathrobe..." He walked in, shut the door behind him, and I greeted him in a plush, white, robe... walked him to our family room, turned around and dropped my robe, revealing my natural pine-cone shaped breasts, covered with freckles and a, very, bushy pussy... He couldn't help getting rock-hard, and dropped his jogging shorts and briefs and removed his t-shirt, revealing his plush hairy chest and crotch. This nude project was, quickly, moving forward... I, quickly, grabbed my sketchpad, then, told him to stand on the end table, and started to draw him as his cock, shrank in his nervousness. I quickly, started drawing, acting as if he & I wern't nude... I was just another model-to him... I placed the sketch pad in my lap, covering my bushy pubes. However, my excited nipples pointed directly at him. For the first time, my good friend, was sexually attracting me, causing him to get hard, again. I acted like I didn't seem to mind, just smiled as I sketched. About an hour, later, I concluded my work, stood up and showed him the final product, having added longer hair and a beard with goatee, to protect his anonymity, walked up, hugged, and French-kissed him, saying, "Thank you for saving my grade." Ron had me stand next to the curtain, and took a, single, frontal nude, for his side of our deal. He said I was beautiful! As he laid down on the comforter, on the sofa, I gathered up my nerves and gave into some new aroused passion, and shocked him by placing my pussy above his cock, reached for his manhood, which, quickly, became erect, saying, "We've done everything except make love," kissing him, again, as I slid onto him, popping my cherry, and surrendering my virginity. "This is fantastic!" I shouted, as we joined, in passion. "I never dreamed sex would be this great!" He gasped as he entered my warm, wet, hairy, pussy. I was in shock, then, quickly, reacted, as we pumped, together. Soon, we both "came" as Ron shook. Then, I grabbed the, bloody, sheet from the sofa, dumped it in the washer "to destroy the evidence," then led him to the shower "to wash off more evidence." All of our bathing had his cock, rock-hard, though, as we French-kissed under the shower... When he attempted to slide himself into my hairy pussy, I stopped him, saying... "Let's go to my bed. NOW!!!" Moments later, he was eating my hairy pussy and stroking my breasts as I screamed in ecstasy, "Oh, oh, please don't stop. Your tongue, RIGHT THERE on my clit! Oh my..... OH MY... Uh!" before my first oral orgasm thunderstruck my body into convulsions!!! He gently held me as I returned from orbit.... As I moaned in pleasure.... "That was so, freaking awesome!" I sighed... "I didn't think I was capable of feeling so great! Can I keep your tongue at my command???" "I don't give it away, I laughed. Love my tongue, love me... And my tongue comes with a cock, that wants to be inside your bushy pussy! He is turned on by you..." He said.... I pulled Ron on top of me and he sucked my breasts as he slid his rock-hard, cock inside my soaking wet pussy... We rocked, together, missionary, kissing and stroking into a mutual climax and creampie before spooning to sleep..." "Robyn? Robyn??? Who is that with you????? We woke up to the sound of my mother's surprise in the bedroom... "This is my, uh, friend, Mark, from school..." "You are naked, under the covers, together..." said my mom... "You are closer than most friends..." "You are right," I responded. "Mark saved my art project by posing for me when my model bailed out. Mark is a sweet man from school and I gave him my virginity after his tongue sent my pussy past the milky way... I hope he wants to stick around... I've crushed on him at school and want to share our lives..." "Thanks for making my girl happy!" Mother said to Ron... "I hope you two used protection..." "Don't worry," I assured mom... My period starts in two days... "I am in my safe zone... Which is great, because I want Mark's cock, again, as soon as you give us some privacy... Goodbye, mom!!!" As soon as mom left the room, I rolled over and slid his cock into me, doggy-style... We rocked, into a passionate, mutual climax... together... by SoCaliDude for Literotica

While Denver's dining scene has attracted top chefs from all over the world, it's our mom-and-pop shops and holes in the wall that tell a deeper culinary story. Like Noodles Express, a nondescript eatery in a strip mall on Colorado Boulevard that happens to serve up some of the best Szechuan cuisine in town. We stopped by the recently a lo-fi feast of sweet, salty, and tongue-numbing spice with our fave gastro guide, Westword food editor Molly Martin. Today on the show, newsletter editor Peyton Garcia and host Bree Davies celebrate the last day of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Molly as they dine on mapo tofu and dish about their fave Asian restaurants across the Mile High. Molly mentioned the Crazy Hungry Asians of Colorado group on Facebook, the Westword profile of Adam You, You's Denver Chinese Source blog and the return of Mile High Asian Restaurant Week. Here's Molly's original review of Noodle Express, as well as her story on the restaurant bouncing back from the brink of closure. It’s snowing a lot in South Denver today. Traffic on Colorado Boulevard, a six-lane thoroughfare, is just a trickle this afternoon. And many of the vehicles you do hear or see are snowplows. Here’s the sound of standing in a foot of snow on the side of the street. There’s a lot of wind noise in this episode, and you can hear the icy snowflakes pelting the microphone at times. Sorry about that but it’s a pretty crazy day to stand around outside. Recorded March 14, 2021.
Dr. Bartner and Ryan Abraham begin with a discussion of what might be the most-talented USC Football team of all time. The 1979 squad featured two Heisman Trophy winners, a Lombardi Award honoree, 15 draft picks, and four future NFL Hall of Famers. The 10-0-1 Trojans made it to the Rose Bowl and topped Ohio St. with a last-minute drive for the ages with Charles White leading the way. Speaking of the Rose Bowl, Art and Ryan then delve into the traditions surrounding "The Granddaddy of Them All," including the 5.5-mile march down Colorado Boulevard and the pageantry of the game itself.Honor Dr. Bartner's birthday wish and support our loyal Trojans with a donation to the Trojan Marching Band Member Pandemic Relief Fund:Text USC BAND to 41444 or visit app.mobilecause.com/e/kP0Gew?vid=c70jqHosted by Ryan AbrahamFeaturing Dr. Arthur C. This week, SGV Connect goes macro and micro with a look at the just started public process on the county's water plan and studies why Pasadena is resisting the call to eliminate pedestrian crossing buttons before allowing people to legally cross the street at most intersections. Kris spoke with Matt Frary, Acting Principal Engieneer at Los Angeles County Public Works, about the County Water Plan. The board of supervisors decided at last week’s meeting to hire a consultant to develop the plan by 2021. This plan would try to create a regional approach to water resource management. It would be a practical, policy document, that would help to articulate a shared vision with the more than 200+ water agencies in the County. Frary said. For folks in the SGV who want to get involved with the development of the County Water Plan, or actions taken as part of the Safe Clean Water Program, there are 3 dedicated Steering Committees focused on this topic. Each committee is comprised of 17 committee members, five of which are community stakeholders and at least one watershed coordinator to help facilitate additional involvement. The three committees are as follow: Upper San Gabriel River Watershed Area Steering Committee Lower San Gabriel Watershed Area Steering Committee Rio Hondo Watershed Area Steering Committee Second, Damien speaks with Misch Anderson, an advocate for safer transportation options in Pasadena. Anderson has been vocal about the city's response to COVID-19, criticizing the city in Colorado Boulevard (not once, but twice) for not turning off the "Beg Buttons" that need pressing before one crosses the street. Damien and Misch discuss Pasadena's login in not following the example of Los Angeles and other peer cities and make the case that once the buttons are turned off, they should never be turned back on. Last, we have a programming note on the expanded SGV Connect we announced in last week's podcast. Future podcasts and articles that are written as part of our agreement with Foothill Transit will have a place to signup for the new SGV Connect Newsletter. We're going to launch the newsletter in two weeks, May 22, and we hope to have hundreds of you joining us. SGV Connect is supported by Foothill Transit, offering car-free travel throughout the San Gabriel Valley with connections to the new Gold Line Stations across the Foothills and Commuter Express lines traveling into the heart of downtown L.A. This past weekend (5/20/18) marked the closing of the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts. And it coincides with the end of our coverage as well. Following are our final three conversations. I think you will enjoy them. But first, a little bit more about the Pasadena area that you might not be aware of and how this region of Southern California has shaped the way we live and design and it’s probably not what you might be expecting. Pasadena is rich with tradition from the Tournament of Roses parade, it’s 1915 Beaux Arts City Hall and the pomp and grandeur of Colorado Boulevard. But there is a fork in the road in Pasadena. Literally, a giant fork in the road at the intersection of Pasadena and St. John Avenues. Why, who knows. It was erected by two locals with a sense of humor and sticktoitiveness when it was taken down. They got the blessing of the city, bought the insurance, paid for the permits and there it is. From a big fork in the road to living in a bubble. There is the Bubble House. Probably one of the most simple architectural masterpieces anywhere. It’s not exotic, beautiful or remarkable in any way other than in it’s ingenuity. Post World War II, returning GI’s, a blossoming economy and booming society led to a housing shortage, sound familiar? So Wallace Neff came up with an idea. Neff inflated a giant rubber balloon, covered it with wire and gunnite and removed the balloon. What remained, essentially, is an upside down swimming pool. Neff believed he had the solution to the housing crisis at the time, and planned on building over 400,000 bubble houses. Short of 3,000 ever made it and the final one resides in Pasadena. The Bubble House was home to Neff until his death in 1982. I would like to think that this idea still has merit today. An 18 foot high fork in the road and a bubble house in historical Pasadena. Who knew. Know you do. It’s a little bittersweet that this will be the last podcast episode of the 2018 pasadena Showcase House for the Arts. This episode features Benefits Chair, Vikki Sung who is going to share historical reference and the process for participating in the project. After that s a very fun look at the treehouse on the property. You really are going o love this. Finally, we speak with one of my favorite designers, Jeanne Chung. If not familiar with Jeanne, check out her work and listen to her perspective and you’ll see why I’m such a fan. All that is coming up, but first, I want to make sure you know that you can still find all of the videos of the Pasadena Showcase AND we will continue to produce new videos and post them to the YouTube channel @ConvoByDesign, you can also go to www.ConvoByDesign.com and you will find them there as well. On the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Holliston Street in Pasadena stands a concrete tablet that looks like a tombstone. Even though it looks out of place, it is probably the oldest thing on that street corner - a long-lost ancestor of the navigation system on your phone. This episode tells the story.

JOHN GRANT is an award-winning location manager who knows the Greater Los Angeles Area like the back of his hand. From feature films to reality TV shows, John has a genuine love for finding real-world settings for producers and directors to use in creating make-believe worlds. (43:28) EPISODE NOTES: I’ve lived in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles for 20 years and in that time I’ve seen a lot of film and television shoots on my street and around the neighborhood. Clint Eastwood lived in the house behind me in “Million Dollar Baby.” The Italian Bakery at the end of my street had a recurring role in “Sons of Anarchy.” “The Office” shot at Pete’s Blue Chip Burgers, and Zooey Deschanel rode down Colorado Boulevard in a pedicab for her show “New Girl.” Pharrell Williams used Eagle Rock High School, our bowling alley All Star Lanes, and the local CVS for his “Happy” music video. HBO’s “Togetherness” was not only filmed in Eagle Rock, but actually set in Eagle Rock -- it usually passes for other places. The tidy Craftsman house they used for the series is just a few blocks over. And get this: the male lead character’s name is Brett Pierson. Talk about close to home. But no matter what part of the city you live in, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see some Lights, Camera, Action! at one point or another. Like it or not, LA functions as a gigantic backlot for film and TV producers. And as longtime location manager JOHN GRANT tells me, there are plenty of people who don’t like it: “Managing the location is a lot about public relations. And when you’ve got a resident or merchant screaming at you about your presence there, I’ve got to remember that I’ve got to go back and shoot in that neighborhood again sometime. So, I’ve got to maintain a level of decorum in the neighborhood so that everybody feels that this wasn’t a production that screwed them over.” Of course, there are some people who aren’t satisfied unless they get something out of it for themselves. “Gratuities” is the line item in a production budget for dealing with persistent grumblers: “If there’s somebody who feels like they’re getting shafted, I’ll say ‘Let me pay you a thousand bucks and do catering on your lawn or in your backyard’ or ‘For 150 bucks a truck, can I park 3 trucks in your driveway?’” But John says pacifying a vocal local doesn’t always mean handing over a fistful of cash: “I remember on Fear Factor I could fix the problem just by giving people a hat. They’d say, ‘Hey, look. They gave me a hat!’” With over 30 years of experience in the field, John is a seasoned professional who’s been around the block – actually lots of blocks – many times: “In Los Angeles you can get knee-high in the tall grass if you’re not careful. You bring a large footprint of trucks and trailers and you don’t prep it right, you’re going to have trouble in the neighborhood. And I pride myself in the way that I prep things. I’m very thorough and leave no stone unturned." John’s serious attention to detail has not gone unnoticed. He’s been nominated for 8 California On Location Awards and won his first COLA in 2005 for his work on MTV’s reality show “The 70s House.” The win was a huge surprise for John because he was up against the location managers working on two major network episodics: CBS’s “NCIS” and NBC’s “ER.” John won a second COLA in 2013 for “Face Off” on the SyFy Channel. In talking with John it’s clear that he truly loves Los Angeles. He grew up here; went to Hollywood High; and knows the city like the back of his hand. He’s got a long list of spots around town he loves to shoot in – and a very short list of spots he hates shooting in. In fact, it’s just one place. And you might be surprised to hear where it is. After nearly a month of work, new Broncos' head coach Vance Joseph has almost filled his entire coaching staff. Mike McCoy and Bill Musgrave will lead the offense and Joe Woods will lead the defense. On the surface, that seems both straightforward and impressive. However, a closer look at the staff points to a clear reality. The Denver Broncos are building their 2017 team with second-year quarterback Paxton Lynch in mind. Jake Marsing and Ryan Greene rejoin you, this time from the parking lot of a bar on Colorado Boulevard to examine the completed coaching staff, discuss Lynch's future, Romo rumors, the upcoming Hall of Fame vote, and give an early preview of the NFL draft. The #Broncos Blitz comes to you every Tuesday during the Broncos' offseason.
We spend this week's show at a one-time musical happening that takes space in a motel on Colorado Boulevard where the rooms are converted into experimental music stages and installation spaces for an afternoon. Arts editor Jesse Lerner condenses a 6 hour sound fest by the Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound into our half-hour radio show. If you like Ornette Coleman, Kamou Daaood, and John Cage, you don't want to miss this episode of Hear in the City!
